We booked this hotel for what we thought was going to be a lovely beach holiday. When we arrived we were dropped by the transfer coach on the opposite side of a busy main road.

We had to walk 10 minutes in the wrong direction until we could find an underpass that would allow us to cross and then a further 10 minutes walk to the hotel with our luggage.

We were told that the hotel was situated in a lovely square and peaceful surroundings. The square was a barren gravel square but did seem to be a meeting point for all the local youths.

When we checked into the hotel the staff were very polite and showed us to our room. The room was not quite what we were expecting, the door onto the balcony had been broken into and was hanging off the hinges, several floor tiles in the room were cracked, and the bathroom was not very clean.

Directly opposite our door there was a window which was fully open at all times with a 12 foot drop into the kitchen cleaning area.

We decided to ask if we could change rooms and the friendly staff became very hostile and then decided they couldn't understand what we were saying. We decided to make the best of a bad job and went out to visit the beach.

The beautiful beach that was promised to us could be described just so, if you did not mind clambering over the main railway line from Barcelona to get to it. A peaceful sunbathe was not possible.

Upon returning to the hotel we settled in for the night and had a restless night listening to mo-peds and various rowdy guests inside and outside of the hotel.

Breakfast was not quite what I had expected and although I am not a fussy eater I found the croissants were stale and upon cutting upon a pear found it to be completely rotten inside.

We were so unhappy that we ended up going to a local tour operator and booking into another hotel in a different resort for the rest of our holiday at our own expensive.

I would strongly urge anyone to think carefully before making a reservation at this hotel.

I have just returned from a week’s holiday at the Mont Palau. I was very worried before I went as I had read all of the reviews - which were terrible.

The hotel itself was clean and comfortable - clean sheets and towels on a daily basis. Rooms were clean and tidy .The only complaint I have is about the food - you wouldn’t starve but I would be very surprised if you managed to eat there all week on a full board basis .Eating out was quite cheap so we didn't really mind. Not many fellow British people at the hotel but appeared very popular with the Spanish people. Occasional rudeness but nothing to write home about.

If you’re looking for nightlife, simply there isn't any but taxis to neighbouring resorts Santa Susanna and Callela are fairly cheap. The night clubs don’t really get started until 2.00am.

For shopping head to Calella- you could walk there if you’re feeling energetic or catch the train if you prefer.

We booked this holiday as a last minute deal - and to be honest it really wasn’t that bad. You get what you pay for !

This is by far the worst hotel...

This is by far the worst hotel and resort I have EVER stayed at in my whole life!!

The hotel is oikish apart from the pool being located on the top floor of the hotel and being as big as a paddling pool! The hotel is full of local people who make you feel very unwelcome.

When we were there, there were only 2 other British families staying in the whole hotel, the rest were spanish! The food was disgusting! They served rabbit with kidneys so all we ate was chips for the whole holiday or we would simply eat out at the English bars along the seafront! At one point, just the smell of the food made us wretch! The local bars are awful! They are full of locals who make you feel extremely unwelcome! Our saviours were the two English and Irish bars!

All in all we couldn't wait to get on the plane home! We wished our holiday away and I would never EVER return to Costa Brava now it was the worst holiday I have EVER had!

STAY AWAY!!!!

This was the worst hotel I have...

This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, when we arrived we thought we where in a ghost town. First impressions did last.

We returned from a week’s holiday. You would expect to have gained an extra couple of pounds being half board. However, I think we all lost a few. The food was awful. One morning for breakfast there was a chose of four types of sausage. Chips for lunch and dinner. The staff where miserable and appeared unkempt.

The staff where unhelpful when the shuttle bus just happened to forget to pick us up for our return journey. Thanks to a couple from Liverpool who very kindly exchanged English pounds for euros we where able to reach the airport in time for our flight.

The girls and I would not recommend this accommodation. Food was awful, no nightlife, not a nice place to stay.

Have just come back from a weeks...

Have just come back from a weeks visit to the Mont Palau Hotel. First impressions weren't very good when we looked out on our balcony straight across at a brick wall!

The hotel is pretty basic although it’s clean. The food quality is ok but there's not that much variety. Good selection of fruit on other though which is good for lunchtimes.

There is a cafe/bar next to the hotel which is very handy as there aren't many other bars near the hotel. The pool is tiny and on the top floor - not great!

The only thing that made the holiday more enjoyable was a nice girl staying in the hotel with her family. I was with family too so we never got chatting but wish I had done and hope she reads this lol ! She would know who I am!

Just arrived back from Mont...

Just arrived back from Mont Palau our overall experience was horror, breakfast was beans and sausages 5 mornings 1 morning to our delight we had bacon, sausages, fried eggs and beans of course the whole English population in the hotel was ecstatic.

The evening meals were dismal, no imagination, example white rice with a tin of tomato soup poured onto it talking about tins thank god they had a good tin opener as everything was out of a tin ie ravioli, vegetables meatballs mushrooms, thank god for the frozen chips or we would have starved. Puddings were acceptable, ice creams cakes etc.

The chairs in the dining room were old, as the chair joints were falling apart and very wobbly and stained, some had rips as well. The hotel was old, and was cheaply part refurbished, with a dash of paint to cover up the cracks the floors were chipped, our view from the balcony was a brick wall which never got the sun as the building across the road was 100 foot away and blocked the light.

The rooms were cheaply refurbished but clean, the cleaners were very good. The so called swimming pool was a small roof pool about 30 ft by 10 ft with some nice chipped tiles and some lovely scum around the water level to top it off, we dare not use this as we were scared The sun loungers had seen better days in the world war 2 as they wasn’t broken and cracked then.

The staff were friendly and helpful when my husband had his wallet stolen on the train back from Barcelona, the manager was very helpful but should have warned others about pick pockets as this was not the only time this incident had occurred.

Overall impression of this hotel is cheap and cheerful, we don’t think we will be visiting Mont Palau again as we don’t like beans.
