We arrived late in the night on our first night. No food provided for the children and no drinks. We complained an d a hotel staff member gave us a lift down to a pizza shop. They opened the bar but we had to purchase drinks. Given this was all inclusive. Not a good start.... more

My friends and I (11 girls) stayed in sunshine village from the 19th of June until the 26th, we are all 18 and therefore this review is probably more helpful for younger groups than families. After reading all the reviews that I could find online my friends and I were all... more

Cleverly worked to try to qualify as AI but DOES NOT MAKE IT. Food is an insult to Greek cuisine. Operates on less than the breadline and recycles food. It's a con. Inaccessible for wheelchairs, nigh impossible for anyone with walking dificulties. Beautifully set in a... more

After just returning from the sunshine apartments in Crete, I most point out, not everything is as advertised. It is not a 4 star more like a 2 star plus. Air conditioning comes at a extre cost of 35 euros per week, which I would advise because of the mosquitos. Other... more

I wasn't looking forward to this holiday after reading the reviews but I was pleasently surprised when I got there! The accomodation wasn't what I expected as we had booked for 4 people and expected a double bed, a single and a sofa bed. What we got was one double bed, with... more

one stay only
definatly a one stay hotel, all inclusive except drinks after 10pm,air conditioning, safe, bottle water, shuttle bus doesnt exist taxis expensive everything on crete expensive no hospitality at hotel management dont care if you dont return.food very poor and repetitve most offerings made more appearances than Frank Sinatra in his career, chefs signature dish was cheese and ham pasta on thursday then cheese ham and pasta leftovers wrapped in pastry served on friday in 30 years of working in catering this takes the biscuit everybody I spoke to said they were unhappy with most things and would not return. All of crete was expensive £4.50 in the local sports bar for a milkshake prices outside bars not always available when inside some offers only for lunchtime.rooms large and basic all service and cleaning staff hungarian but they were ok.one visit was certainly enough we will not return.
dont go
booked a 4* al for me and my partner without my kids and am glad the hotel i thought looked nice to start with then the nitemare started the rooms where very basic with nothing in them there was set times for breakfast lunch and dinner and nothing in between i was very disapointed with this i thought that al was ment to be al and the drinks where watered down as all i could drink was beer as there was nothing eles that i could have as the choose was beer brandy wine racky or ouzo or pop that was it and it finished at 10pm every nite on the dot after that you got charged 2 euros ror watered down beer that was a joke on a nite time the never had nothin on very borin glad we met an other couple as we would have went out our mind to go to the nearest shop was down the bottom off a steep hill that cost 5 euros to get back up but only cost 7 euros to go into the town the food was not good and we never new what we where getin as there was no labels to tell us had to go out a few times to get some real food not good stay away if you want to book a 4* hotel as this is clearly not TRACY MIDLOTHIAN
Try to get your money back!!
Well, where do I begin? Just got back this morning from 2 weeks at this 2* awful place and just had to tell others what this place is really like!! We were GUTTED when we arrived here as our room had no view apart from a brick wall as we were on the ground floor. The hill doesn't sound that bad when you're sitting at home but in 25 degree heat, it's absolutely knackering!. We complained about the food as it was disgustingly bad and just looked like dog food, only to be dragged down to the dining room in front of the other guests and were shouted at by the lady Hitler behind the reception desk. When we mentioned we had spoken to other guests about the food she threatened to kick us out of her hotel if we spoke to anyone else and screamed at us that we were trouble makers. On our second day, the guests were ordering pizza as the food was that bad!! The drinks are really a joke! They are watered down and taste of cat's wee. There was absolutely no entertainment at all and most of the staff were very rude and miserable. The rooms occasionally stunk of sewage, and at one point the hotel had a problem with their water pipes but tried to charge us 1 euro for bottled water when the soft drinks didn't work!!! This hotel is very clean however and the port of Hersonissos is beautiful but please do NOT even contemplate going here even if you have an open mind...EVER!!!!!
Not the best !
First impressions were not brilliant and after reading the reviews we sort of expected it not to be. This hotel needs entertainment in the evening, more variety on the 'all inclusive' drinks, all 'inclusive drinks' need to be extended until at least 11pm, plastic cups around the pool, labels on the food, a free shuttle to the town, the mini-market to be re-opened on site, air conditioning needs to be included within the price. Good things about the hotel were that we paid less for this holiday than we normally would so it is good value for money as Crete is extremely expensive to eat out, the atmosphere is relaxed and you were free to do what you pleased, the staff are hardworking and some were friendly, the pool is very good, lots of sunbeds and the rooms are spacious. The food was not 4* and neither was the hotel, there was always something you could find to eat but out of 14 nights there were 3 or 4 times I found the meals enjoyable. Don't go if you are fussy! The hotel needs to be down graded to perhaps a 2 or 3 and there would then be fewer complaints. I felt sorry for the staff as they were getting loads of grief and having to clear up broken glass all the time, although on many occassions it was themselves that dropped the trays of empty glasses. People should have been complaining to the Management and not the staff. The glasses around the pool are a real hazard and my children were cutting their feet on pieces of broken glass. We did not enjoy the mountain climb back from the town and don't understand why the hotel can't either put on a shuttle bus or simply open the gates near to the play area as this would cut a bit of it out or even further down. The town itself is very busy and is spoilt by traffic including quads and bikes. It is not pedestrianised at all and is a death trap! It is very expensive and is aimed at young party goers. A great place for groups of young people with no children. The beaches were spoiled by sunbeds and there was little room for towels, the sea was rough so not ideal for children. Star beach is a great place with a fabulous free water park and my youngest loved it there, it was pretty quiet during the day and so relaxing. I found most of the Greeks pretty miserable although they seemed to like my Children. I am sure we visited the wrong place in Crete but would not risk going back at all to find out.
KEEP AWAYITS A JOKE IT REALLY IS!
We stayed at this hotel between 7th July and 22nd July 2009 the weather was fantastic and the people we met also great its just a shame that the hotel was such a SHAM! All inclusive should not finish at 10 it should carry on until 12 and only offering waterred down beer and wine is a joke i like neither and have had to pay for the vodka's i have had down i the village! you have to pay for air con which is a joke this should be included in the price. The hotel was clean and most of the staff were friendly. The receptionist has been nicknamed Miss Haligan as she is the most unfriendly individual i have ever met with no sense of fun at all! No entertainment at night time made it a long night if you stayed there unless you had the fortune of meeting some great people to sit and and eat with and talk together. The children were 8 and 11 and were bored at night as no entertainment for them except for the pool and computer which you had to pay for. The playground and football pitch was a joke! Glasses were used around the pool and not plastic and more often than not ended up smashed in the pool or round the edge! The food was diabolical. This is not a 4* hotel more like a 1 * never knew what we were going to have and were just thankful for salad and brown rolls! i have done several all inclusive holidyas before on 2 * hotel and food was much better than here by a long shot!
4* What a joke
We booked a 4* all inclusive package, and were bitterly disapointed when we realised it was probably only 2* full board. I made the mistake of not checking out the reviews before booking and as such this hotel was not suitable for my mother who has to use a walking frame to get around. The hotel itself was adequate as they had ramps everywhere you wanted to go but these were often very steep and still required assistance to get up (no good for wheelchair users). We were disapointed to be at the top of a very steep hill, and suprised that there was no transport to take you into the town or down to the beach unless you paid for a taxi which costs 5 euros from the supermarket at the bottom of the hill or 7 from the other end of the town (taxi drivers are raking it in). Lets get started on the food - breakfast was rubbish I had to go out a buy some weetabix and proper milk to get my 5 year old daughter to eat anything, the snack at 11am consisted of Coisants, coisants and more coisants or on the odd occasion you did get a curly cheese and ham sandwich. Lunch, was basically the same as what you get for diner which was a choice of cold salad (great) and usually a fish dish, some sort of pasta, oily potatoes or smash and Pork, pork and more pork all served cold or just tepid. The food aspect for our party was very disapointing as we are not afraid to try new things and are not your typical british tourist who expects chips, pizza & burgers this is the 5th Greek Isaland that we have been to and love the greek food, but the c**p that was served in the restraunt was not traditional Greek food as expected. The pool was great for all ages, however we were astonished that drinks were served in Glass not plastic and there was a lot of breakages which resulted in my daughter, husband and father all having glass in their feet while walking around the poolside. The alcholic drinks were very limited to raki, ouzo, brandy, beer & wine which were all watered down as I don't usually drink and one night I had about 10 glasses of brandy & orange and was as sober as I went in to the bar. The all inclusive finished at 11pm so if you wanted to drink after this time you had to buy it, even the soft drinks were switched off. When we arrived at 10pm the restraunt had closed, and we enquired about some food as we had been travelling a long time and we were told we could order a takeaway which we would have to pay for, but there was nothing available for us on site, we did manage to have a drink though. I would not recoment this hotel to anyone I know, however I would recomend the Island as this was very nice and when we ate out we did have good meals and brilliant service, however you don't expect to have to do this when you pay for all inclusive.
Better than expected
We (a couple +kids of 10&14) have just got back from a 2 weeks holyday in Crete, where I booked 4 diff. hotels for that 14 nights, the first was this Sunshine, for 3nights, AI. Since I reserved before reading some comments here, I was a little bit nervous about what we should face with over there. However..We landed (for 2nd attempt) in HER. airport at about 10 Sat. night, it took some time (to get back our breaths)+to collect our car and to find the way to the hotel, we got there well after 11 o'clock. A young man, a recepcionist was waiting for us, he helped our check-in, ordered drinks, since I consumed my beerinstantly, a 2nd beer no wasting time, he commanded my car to its proper place, took one of our heavy luggage, introduced our apartman...and gave an invitation to have a late dinner...in fact a cold plate...but after midnight, again with drinks, after that a talk with them (meantime he invited one of their barmaid to join , she was Hungarian like we are) about the hotel, the neigborhood, what to see, visit etc..+drinks +cakes+ tee+ peanuts until 1AM... I wish to ourselves recepcions like this was! Others: The apartman was pretty spacious, I gess about 50sqmts, AC (should be paid extra, some 6EURO/day) was very efficient, refrigerator clean, working properly. In that short period our rooms were made and cleaned daily, the left-down towels changed. Since I used to get up earlier, at about 7 morning I could see maids busy to clean and wash pool area. I did not find anything rubbish in the pool, even not sand on the bottom mornings being the 1st swimmer each morning. Staff was polite not to order me out of the pool before open ours (8AM, I gess) Meals were OK.. it is very diff. to me not to find an appropriate one out of four- five main courses + greens, vegetables +cheese+oil+ breads. Daytime bar service appropriate again..they provided basic but OK local products, beer +light drinks +soda+water on 4-5 Celsius +icecubes were provided always. Anyhow, all of our experiences at this hotel went beyond our expectations, the price/quality ratio is very high by my consideration, our late welcome was outstanding. Members of the staff - and not only the Hungarian ones, and not only to us - were polite and patient. (mealtimes some people used to lost some part of their brain..but this phenomenon is not house- specific) On other hand, it is sure, that the house is situated well above -I gess by 40-60 mts- above the sea level, some 1km from the main road of Hersonissou.
Pleasently surprise
Just got back from a 2 week stay at the Sunshine Village Apartments in Hersonnissos,Crete. We arrived with a certain amount of trepidation after reading previous reviews. On arrival we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Our room was not only very spacious it was cleaned every day by an excellent maid service. We also went thinking we wasn't going to eat for a fortnight. But instead we were well fed at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Perhaps people expected chips, burgers, nuggets and pizza for every meal, but instead we were fed with dishes consisting of pastas, salads various meat dishes and vegatables. Perhaps this is where the problem lies for some people. You could actually eat healthy ! The pool was excellent and the area around the pool was cleaned every morning before the pool was opened for swimming. The hotel was situated on a steep hill but it was easy to get a taxi if you needed one to get back and forth to the apartments. I will say that Hersonnissos is more popular with the Dutch,Germans,French and Polish which we found quite good to be amongst a varied league of nations. We had a great two weeks and this was probably made better after reading the previous reviews on this place.
stay away is our advise
there was a party of 13 that went to sunshine village appartments, No way is this a 4 *. We spoke to other people from around britain , Denmark, poland etc and it was advertised as a 2 star.Food is horendous, pool never cleaned, broken glass around the pool. the miserable polish thing behind bar outside said she wishes she could kill all us english .We all have bad throats and 2 have chest infections ,which we are convinced is from air con. When we asked to see certificate for regs on air con they said they dont have any.The hill climb is a killer in the heat,I could go on and on , but our advise is stay away.
Stay Away If You Want To Stay Alive
We stayed at this hotel on the 25th september 2007, should have been for a week but after 2 days we could not stay any longer and we transferred to another hotel by our holiday company. upon arriving everything appeared to be fine, quite quaint and villagey like buildings, pool was fab and absolutley huge. problems started when we went for some dinner. first let me explain that we booked on a all inclusive basis and were told this hotel was a 4 star complex. IT WAS NOT IT WAS A 2 [JUST ABOUT] there were only 6 dishes to choose from and 2 of these included chips and veg, the others you couldnt tell what they were, plus this food was either cold and warmed up from the day before, i dont have to say that this food was uneatable so therefore you starved. food was the same day in out and as i just said was leftovers from day before. the drinks well dont get me started on that, you either had choices of pop that was so so carbonated it only tasted of soda no matter which type you had, alcoholic variey consisted of beer, wine and ouzo and that was all. not exactly what you would expect for all inclusive, plus may i add that there were no snacks available throughout the day well unless you paid for it, we were not happy but were forced to do this as we were starving. snack menu consisted of pizza, pizza, and pizza so we therefore had pizza, it was of the frozen variety and yes was still frozen. we did complain to a variety of staff and i have to say there were ALL rude, abnoxious and downright up there own [--]. we spoke to the receptionist who conveniently told us hewas the manager too, only to be told 'you brits are all the same' ' you expect too much' no not at all what i expect is to get what i paid for and that is a 4 star hotel all inclusive and not to get a 2 star on full board. he did go on to say that if we bought food that he would cook it for us to our liking, how laughable i wouldnt trust them to feed my dog with tin food, and that they wouldnt have to cook. on a positive we were moved to the royal belvedere and i must say this hotel is first class and more like a six star not the 4 star as advertised. please be aware and do not book this hotel if you have please please cancel. if you have any questions or need to know more please email me i will be happy to help.
