Sorrento is a truly beautiful place, quite breathtaking. Perched on the cliffs it twinkles like a Xmas tree at night. The hotel Ascot is brilliantly located right on the main street close to all the shops and the amenities. The hotel is clean comfortable and more than... more

This hotel is rated 3 stars however that is far too generous, it would struggle to gain 2 stars in the UK! I arrived late Friday evening to find I had been allocated a single room (412) on the ground floor overlooking the kitchen. The furnishings were very basic, more... more

Great room - plenty of space and a nice balcony overlooking the terrace and pool (also partly the main road but not a problem most of the time). Good location, just off the main road and very close to the shops and restaurants. The food was OK, breakfast was great but... more

We had a wonderful holiday but would like to let everyone know that they should book all of their own excursions - do not book with Thomson - their prices are extortionate. The food in our hotel was adequate if lacking a little in imagination. However, I would recommend to... more

Location and Friendly Staff
We booked this hotel for its central location -within easy walking distance of Piazzo Tasso ,shops and harbour. Having read other reviews about the food we awaited our first meal with some trepidation. However, we found it to be OK (pasta dishes were above average) except for the rather miniscule portions! The breakfast choice could also be improved. I suppose a downside of the location was the traffic noise -Sorrento is one mad place for traffic especially the continuous stream of mopeds/scooters - step on to a pedestrian crossing at you peril! However, you tend to get used to it as the week goes on. Having said the above here are the + points:- Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff (despite their apparent long hours -the same staff who served you breakfast will be there to serve you dinner.) Most rooms are good size with small balcony -we even had a sea view which was unexpected A large sun terrace on the roof with great views over the bay. The low prices of drinks - totally unheard of not to be ripped off for wine etc in a hotel
Shame about the food
Oh dear, my wife and i spent a week at this hotel which at times felt like it was on the busiest motorway in the UK. Due to its location near to the centre and on the main junction the noise and fumes were at times unbearable. The staff were freindly enough and service good. However the food was awful not just how it was cooked or not as the case may be but the fact that the portions were tiny and the choices almost zero. After traveling all over europe and staying in many hotels its the firs time ive been offered as a main course a cheese sandwich or a salad with a boiled egg on top. Yes realy that was what was on offer. All i can say on a positive note is the Hotel is in a good loaction and Sorrento is a good base if you want to visit Pompeii and Capri etc. I would also suggest you try and book these localy as our Thomson rep was selling a trip to Capri for only 65 Euros. My wife decided to go it alone and went on the same trip for 25 Euros just by booking the boat ourselves ? In conclusion the hotel is bearable as long as you eat out as many of the half board guests were doing, even though they had paid for half board. Graham and Zarifa Nottinghamshire
Loved
My Husband and myself went to the Hotel Ascot in October for our 40th wedding anniversary, this is not the first time that we have stayed there. We have always recived a very warm welcome every time we have stayed there. We had a wonderful surprise on our anniversary the managment had placed a bottle of Spumanti in our room to celebrate our anniversary. Since they have done all of the refurbishments the overall feel of the hotel is really lovely now to what it was 10 years ago when we first stayed there. I would have no trouble in recomending this hotel to anybody. Our stay was very enjoyable and this was due to the wonderful and friendly staff. Elizabeth Wright (Stevenage)
A Friendly Clean Hotel In A Good Location!
Great room - plenty of space and a nice balcony overlooking the terrace and pool (also partly the main road but not a problem most of the time). Good location, just off the main road and very close to the shops and restaurants. The food was OK, breakfast was great but dinner a little lacking in imagination but what do you expect from a 3 star - we had to order our dinner at breakfast time with a choice from 2 options for each of three courses. The hotel is however a short distance from a number of great restaurants - our favourite was La Fenice which is about 200 yards round the corner. One of the best restaurants I have been to for a while with great service and great food - good portion sizes as well. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful - they went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our holiday I definitely recommend this hotel - although if you can get a room with a balcony at the back overlooking the pool then it would be a bit quieter. Some people we met were staying in a couple of the expensive 5 Star hotels and were not happy saying the staff were not welcoming - definitely not a problem at the Ascot!
Nice hotel shame about the food
we booked this as a last minute holiday. The welcome on arrival was pleasant, the room clean with a balcony overlooking the pool as requested. The bar staff were pleasant and the bar bill ludicrously cheap. The whole staywas marred however by the truly awful food.Had this been our first visit to Sorrento it most certainly would have been our last. The restaurant staff were disinterested to put it politely. When we spoke to the head waiter we were made to feel that should not be speaking up. The food is obviously cooked in advance and kept under hot lamps. Even the holiday rep ate out! The hotel Rivage opposite has a lovely restaurant with views over the bay if you don't fancy walking far. But there are loads of excellent restaurants in Sorrento at various price ranges so the Ascot is fine as base to stay but not to eat.
Thank goodness it was for only one night!
We were provided with B&B at this hotel for one night by the Sorrento Relais B&B (next door) who had overbooked and were unable to accomodate us on our first night in Sorrento (see also our review of Sorrento Relais). Granted our stay at the Ascot was arranged at very short notice and the room we were given may have been the only one they had. Nevertheless, we would have walked out if we hadn't been desperate - it was late and we were travel weary. The room were were given was in a pleasant location - on the ground floor with a balcony looking out onto an attractive garden terrace near the bar. The room however was dank, dismal and damp. There were damp stains on the walls and the bedding was damp. The wash basin was blocked, which cannot have gone unnoticed by the cleaners on their previous visit, and it was not attended to during the time we were there. The breakfast was barely passable and the restaurant staff were unwelcoming.
A Little Gem of an Hotel
what can i say, a lovley little hotel with an even better location. We spent a fantastic week in Sorrento and stayed at the Ascot. Friendly Staff, always willing to help out, rooms spotlessly cleaned everyday (a nice touch is that a couple of days we asked at reception to allow us a lie in and not to bother cleaning the room - both days they left fresh towls and sheets in a plastic bag in front of the door. An air condtioned restaurant, like other reviewers have stated, if you don't like the set menu choices they will bend over backwards; just state what you would like at reception. We had pizza a few days. Pool area very adequate, plenty of sun lounges and umbrellas if you wish to keep out the searing heat. Jaccuzi at one end of pool although not overly powerful. Rooms- We booked with thomson and didn't pay the bit extra for a balcony room. We had a ground floor one. Yes they are a bit dark and dingy but neverless a plus pont is they are cool and for what we paid no complaints at all. Rooms also includes a tv (bbc news 24 the only channel in english) mind you! Parting Thoughts - If you have any doubts about the ascot, don't worry, its a cracking friendly hotel with one of the best locations in Sorrento, A nice pool area, supermarket literally next door and a 2-3 minute walk into town. There is a cracking place to book day trips (the dolphin) as you come out hotel turn right into town and about 200 yards down on right hand side - this will save you loads and puts thomsons prices to shame really. The Ascot Hotel gets my Vote and would have no reservations at all about going back in the future. M PAYNE.
ideally situated, friendly, spotless
Hotel Ascot provides an ideal base to explore Sorrento and the Neapolitan Riviera. We booked a room suitable for 2 adults and a teenage daughter and were very pleased - roomy, spotless, air con if requested and a balcony too! The dining room is spacious and air conditioned, serving traditional Italian cooking ( 2 choices of starter, main and dessert). If you want English food, look elsewhere, but the pasta meals in particular were absolutely gorgeous. If you have specific dietary requirements, or you just don't fancy what's on the menu, the helpful staff will bend over backwards to accommodate your tastes.House wines are good value. All extra drinks, snacks and services are added to your room number and settled at the end of your break. The pool area is small, but never crowded, with no problem getting a sunbed. There is also a roof sun terrace with more sunbeds and a fantastic view. The helpful tabac shop owner across the road is very handy for buying train and bus tickets, phone cards and internet access. The town is literally 2 minutes walk away, with a supermarket round the corner.Possible drawback - traffic noise at night (drink more wine was my solution!) We booked this hotel at short notice and were very pleasantly surprised.
Super hotel, well situated
Sorrento,Italy: Perfect for the Amalfi coast and Isle of Capri. We were looking forward to a reasonably priced, scenic yet relaxing holiday in Sorrento and we were not disappointed! The Ascot hotel was a pleasure to stay in, admittedly not the most luxiurious of the hotels on the coastline (some had to be seen to be believed!), the staff were friendly and helpful, the inside & outside bar, patio & the pool area were light bright & welcoming. The bedrooms were very pleasant, most having a balcony and were cleaned thoroughly everyday. It is worth noting that we heard from some guests that their ground floor bedrooms lacked a balcony & were somewhat gloomy- so a tip is to request a room on the 2nd floor or above! The breakfast was adequate & continental style & 3 course evening meal pleasant & varied. We had a wonderful holiday and recommend this hotel for travellers looking for value and comfort.
Best holiday ever
This is a very nice Hotel. The staff are very friendly and it has a family run atmosphere. The food is excellent and the bar cheap! Although the hotel is by the road you can not hear it from the ample pool or in your room (but do try and get a room as high as possible). Sorrento is a great place to start your exploration of the Amalfi coast and Rome. If you are going out on an excursion run by many of the travel agents DONT get pushed around by the guides they are terrible and dont seem to understand how to relax
