This is the first time I have written a review, but after this holiday I feel I have to!!
I have been to numerous places and stayed in varied accomodation which has all been pretty good! I am not one of those persons who is Victor Meldrew for the sake of it, but this hotel is NOT good.
On the other hand the rooms are very clean and are cleaned daily, location is good and Sorrento is a great place to visit, that was about it!!
The hotel reception staff were miserable, the food terrible which I could of cooked myself and had to pay extra because I was still hungry and the public areas need updating. It was like being in the 70's. I thought I was going to have to eat Egg & Chips with Rod Hull & Emu!!
The hotel is very very very noisy, got a room overlooking the main road and believe you me, this is the main road going through Sorrento!! Moped after Moped after Moped, the only way to get a good nights sleep is to get steaming!!
Not worth a visit.

Sorrento is a truly beautiful place, quite breathtaking. Perched on the cliffs it twinkles like a Xmas tree at night.
The hotel Ascot is brilliantly located right on the main street close to all the shops and the amenities. The hotel is clean comfortable and more than adequate. We were on the top floor.
There is a lift so access is ok. On the top floor we had no balcony but instead access to a large roof terrace which was incredible the views were spectacular.
The food was basic and yet edible and staff were friendly and helpful offering us alternatives if we didn’t like anything on the set menu. The pool area was clean but the pool isn’t heated so be prepared for a cold shock when you dive in, however on a hot day that is just what you want.
I would definitely stay here again if I go back to Sorrento which I hope I do. The only downside is the lack of things to do for children in Sorrento and it’s not ideal for the less mobile as it’s perched on a cliff and there are a lot of steep hills.
However that aside it’s a wonderful place and the hotel Ascot is a good value for money place to see it from.

This hotel is rated 3 stars however that is far too generous, it would struggle to gain 2 stars in the UK!
I arrived late Friday evening to find I had been allocated a single room (412) on the ground floor overlooking the kitchen.
The furnishings were very basic, more appropriate to student accommodation. The bed was 2ft 6 inches and covered with a candlewick bedspread! The noise from various parts of the hotel kept me awake for most of the night.
Needless to say my first job the following morning was to request a change of room. At first my request was refused but I was adamant that I was not going to stay another night in that room so I was eventually offered another single room on the 3rd floor.
This was in a quieter location however the furnishings were still very basic albeit I now had a balcony. The towels were dreadful, the thin cotton variety which are more like a tea towel than a towel so I would recommend all visitors take their own.
Air-conditioning is essential and is provided however at an additional daily cost of 5.5 Euros, likewise you have to pay a daily rate to have access to the fridge! I had already paid over the odds for a single room so this was the final straw - what a rip off!
I didn't eat in at dinner opting instead to sample the delicious food available at the many reasonably priced restaurants in Sorrento however I understand from fellow guests that the food was poor.
On a positive note, the location is good for the shops and restaurants though it is very noisy due to the traffic. Also the staff were on the whole pleasant and helpful.
I checked out double and twin rooms and whilst they were of a decent size, again they all had the candlewick bedspreads and basic furniture - I have stayed in several 3 star hotels in Italy and this is by far the worst therefore this is not a typical Italian 3 star hotel and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and needless to say should I visit Sorrento again I will not be staying at the Ascot again.

Great room - plenty of space and a nice balcony overlooking the terrace and pool (also partly the main road but not a problem most of the time).
Good location, just off the main road and very close to the shops and restaurants.
The food was OK, breakfast was great but dinner a little lacking in imagination but what do you expect from a 3 star, we had to order our dinner at breakfast time with a choice from 2 options for each of three courses.
The hotel is however a short distance from a number of great restaurants, our favourite was La Fenice which is about 200 yards round the corner. One of the best restaurants I have been to for a while with great service and great food, good portion sizes as well.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, they went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our holiday
I definitely recommend this hotel, although if you can get a room with a balcony at the back overlooking the pool then it would be a bit quieter.
Some people we met were staying in a couple of the expensive 5 Star hotels and were not happy saying the staff were not welcoming, definitely not a problem at the Ascot!

We had a wonderful holiday but would like to let everyone know that they should book all of their own excursions - do not book with Thomson - their prices are extortionate.
The food in our hotel was adequate if lacking a little in imagination.
However, I would recommend to all a B & B we booked for one night in Rome - It was called the Best Bed and Breakfast. It was immaculately clean and the breakfast was superb!
