Be careful when booking with Thomson, make sure you ask for a sea view, we booked early but where informed by Thomson that no sea views were left, so we went for a partial sea view. When we arrived we found out we didn't have a balcony! And our window opened onto the room next doors balcony, offering very little privacy for either families.
The hotel is also spoilt by inconsiderate people slamming doors and there needs to be more sound proofing. Carpets in the corridors at least would stop the click clacking of peoples heels echoing all night.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, although the waiters get very flustered when the dining room gets busy and often the food is stone cold.
Breakfast is also very monotonous, we stayed 2 weeks and it was scrambled egg and bacon every day. The coffee was pretty awful and the hot water for the tea was often tepid.
The views of the bay of Naples are fantastic and the walk into Sorrento isn't too bad, but there are lots of steps.
The local beach is dirty and has the local sewage works is just up the road, so from the hotel you can often see horrible items floating by.
The better 'beaches' are at the other side of town, but there are nice 'bathing piers' down the steps near the main port, where you can hire sun loungers, but these are rather expensive at about 25 euros a day.
I did like the admiral, it grew on me and was rather like faulty towers, i wouldn't go back though. It was too noisy and sometimes was hard to sleep, due to doors slamming and people talking into the wee small hours.
If you want to go to Sorrento stay in the hotels nearer the main port in the leafy suburbs.
We paid over £800 for 14 nights, on the standards at present I'd value the hotel at about £500 for a holiday.
Needs to improve somewhat to keep up with the other hotels. Personally I'll go back to Spain next year, the Spaniards have got it off to a tee. Catch up time Italy, you can't rely on Sorrentos reputation for ever.

Having read many favourable reviews, it was some what disappointing when we finally arrived at the Admiral. The small fishing harbour is dirty, I realise its a working harbour, but the local restaurant bins looked straight out of the 'winter of discontent'! Plenty of dog mess and sewage from the water treatment plant (which was just up the road) on the scruffy beach.
Regarding the hotel itself, the staff are lovely, friendly, can't be faulted, but this is what they're paid for, is it not?!
The hotel is very, very noisy, doors slamming at all hours, you can clearly hear the people in the next room and the air conditioning sounds like a 747 landing nearby.
I must remember its only a 3 star, the food was nice, but often cold. This hotels standards would have been great 20 years ago, but nowadays, personally speaking, i expect more, smarmy waiters turning on the charm for a big tip at the end of the holiday is old hat.
And another winge, the pools tiny and grotty and the sun goes off the hotel in the early afternoon.
There are worst hotels, but don't expect the little utopia other reviewers have painted this hotel to be.

This hotel made our holiday for us. The main things for us were the efficiency and professionalism of the bar and dining staff who worked exceptionally hard and would ensure your happiness.
The chef was second to none, and the quality of the food was superb, although some people had a good "winge", and the amount of mozzarella that was untouched by many Brits was shocking! We felt the hotel did its utmost to cater for the nationalities of those present, and in some respects it would have been nice for the chef to have been "let loose" and really let his flair shine.
You must be in relatively good health to stay here as the walk to Piazza Tasso is steep and it can be quite humid at times. Plenty of rests are advised on route! However, the hotel offers amazing views and is so tranquil. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone considering a real chill. Watch out females for the horny waiters! A swift "no thanks, but nice try" is a good way to get them away!
An amazing holiday and the hotel was an integral part of this. Look out for Anzo the waiter. He is so cute. Looks like a little tough nut but his smile is amazing as are his eyes, and he is one lovely guy.

We were very pleasantly surprised by this hotel since we got a very reasonable rate for the room. We paid extra for a balcony and it has to be said the view is spectacular - great view across the bay to Vesuvius.
We were on a B & B basis, rooms very comfortable and the breakfast was plentiful - cereals, bacon and eggs, meats etc and as much as you want. The swimming pool was not in operation as it was being renovated but it looked like that was almost finished so will probably be finished by the time you read this.
It is easy to walk into the main part of town if you are reasonably fit as the path is quite steep with steps but is an enjoyable walk - takes about 15 minutes.
The hotel is situated in a picturesque part of Sorrento (the part that features on most of the postcards) and there are some great restaurants just on the door step if you don't want to walk or catch the bus to the main square (bus is once an hour).
Sorrento is a great place and also very good base for Pompeii. Don't go on a rip-off price coach tour -get the train which only costs something like 2.60 Euros return, takes half an hour and stops right outside the entrance!

We went to Sorrento, with two other couples, never having visited Italy before.
The Hotel exceeded our expectations in just about every category. The cleanliness, friendliness and relaxing atmosphere made it a memorable time. You have to go to the Gala Night dinner - they really try hard to entertain you - lots of clapping and enjoyable food!
The little bar-man will tell you his life story if you ask him and Antonio is always on hand to serve your drinks. The only downside is that it is a steep walk up a windy road (10 -15 minutes max) to the centre of Sorrento but they do run a few courtesy buses (perhaps more in high season?).
Sorrento itself is a marvellous place with many small shops and restaurants. We had the best pizzas in The Red Lion near to the Rail Station (ignore the name it is Italian not a mock English pub). After a good night out in town we usually stopped off at one of the bars near to the hotel for a night cap - very friendly people in all the ones we visited.
If you want to do some sightseeing have a look at the special offers advertised in the rail carriage outside of the Rail Station. If not, you'll be ripped off by the holiday reps. We will be heading back next year I hope!

Okay, this hotel has a nice view of the bay of Naples, that’s it. Went with Thomsons' got a room with no balcony, which was not explained to us and the rep' was about 14 years old and knew absolutely nothing about the local area, unless you wanted to book his very over priced trips.
The hotel has a very small pool and no sun terrace at all, its gives out free deck chairs that are packed in like sardines and the pool is dirty.
The neighbouring harbor is dirty, you need to go over the headland to the main port to get near any main bathing platforms that are available to hire.
The admirals also noisy as the soundproofing is rubbish. At least the staff are nice, Santos we love you!
