We were nxt to bar room 36 yes we heard chatting but not enough to keep us awake.Angelo a gem he kept us entertained with most of the other guests. Costas 1 and 2 both around but Chrysoulla ran pool bar herself lovely woman .Rooms basic but cleaned everyday, pool area spotless.plenty bars and restraunts Our favourite Medusas (up lane nxt to doctors office )food excelent family ran business. We were there 2 weeks enjoyed every minute, the transfer wasnt good ,but well worth it when we arrived and seen the wonderful views. Plakias well worth a visit, a un-spoilt corner of Crete.

Very basic apartments in urgent need of refurbishment. Shower unit hanging off the wall; mattresses lumpy and uncomfortable; ancient TV with grainy picture but worst of all was the noise from the bar until 02:00 am+ every night. Only thing going for Kostas Chryssoulla was the location - very central and Plakias is wonderful. Why anyone wants to drink in a dingy backstreet bar when there are some wonderful establishements within 2 minutes walk I don't know. Complained about noise to rep but was told I couldn't be moved until airport day - useless on a 1 week holiday so Thanks Olympic!
Go to Plakias; avoid Kostas Chryssoulla.

We booked this holiday through Olympic 3 weeks before departure at a very good price.
Kostas Chrissoula is perfectly situated for a beach holiday in Plakias. The accomodation is basic but is kept very clean (towels and bed linen changed every other day)and the staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a good mix of nationalities staying at Kostas with families and older people being the mainstay. The pool bar is very reasonably priced for snacks and drinks. If you are looking for a good value holiday then I can definitely recommend these apartments. Plakias itself is a very pleasant place with a good choice of restuarants and a good beach. It is also quiet compared with the north of the Island and does not cater for groups of teenagers looking for all night discos and bars. However we went with our 17 and 15 year old and they had a greta time.
- Advice: Plakias can be very windy
- Activities: All the restaurants we tried were good value and good quality
- Good For: Beach

Great once again.
Tremendous room, large and out of the way, sheets and towels changed every day.
Angelo may well be best barman in Crete but almost certainly is in Plakias.
Pool maybe a bit on the cold side.
Breakfast, which you have to pay for is between 8 and 10 and continental but very good.
Handy for everything, supermarkets, restaurants, bars, beach.
I just hope Olympic get their flights sorted out for next year.

My husband and I have spent the last 7years holidaying in Plakias at kostas krysoulla it is the best and friendliest hotel we have visited. Our studios have always been of a very good standard especially cleanliness, nothing is ever too much trouble for kostas 1 and 2 and Angelos is the BEST barman in Crete (our views), he makes the best cocktails in Plakias.Maria makes the bestclub sandwich with real chips!!! and Kostas children work very hard too as does Sylvia one of the cleaners.
Plakias itself is awonderful resort, very laid back and relaxing with very good Tavernas and bars we highly reccomend Taverna Harakas, Sonia and her husband and staff make us so welcome every time we visit and the food is excellent .
We actually live inNorth west Crete permanantly now but have spent a weekend at Kostas as we were getting withdrawl symptoms .We highly reccomend a holiday there.

Arrived by taxi just after midnight and was made very welcome by Angelos the best barman in Crete (his words not mine).
The apartments are basic but more than up to the job. They were cleaned nearly every day and towels and sheets changed on a regular basis.
Everyone was friendly and made you feel more than welcome I would recommend these apartments any time. Would I go back? You bet I would.
A very short walk away is the town and beach of Plakias which is a fairly quiet place but really nice for a visit with plenty of tavernas and bars to keep you fed and watered.

Very enjoyable stay at Kostas Chrysoula Studios. Perfect location, 1 minute from the beach front and close to everything!
My room was supposed to have cooking facilities but didn't - only a fridge, but this didn't bother me too much as it was so cheap to eat in any of the tavernas.
Plakias is a fairly quiet resort, but has plenty of shops, tavernas, beaches and walks to keep you occupied. The beach is beautiful and was quiet when I visited.
We went early May but had 2 days of cloud, 9 days of hot sun (35 degrees) and 3 days of floods! We had to rearrange our Samaria Gorge walk as it closed due to bad weather!
We went as a rambling group and did many walks in the area - breathtaking views.
I loved the resort so much that I have booked to go back next month (back to Kostas Chrysallou too)!

Very poor accommodation in main complex. Dated, poor quality of fixture and fittings, cramped. Toilet overflowed, window glass was broken, studio smelled.
Balcony was very cramped and basic, overlooked car park and large blank wall.
Complained and were eventually moved to a separate block facing the sea. Much better, even if we were showering etc. in a completely dark bathroom while awaiting a replacement light fitting.
This was a full price holiday and Olympic Holidays should ensure some standards apply. This is not the 1960s.
This was our sixth time to Greece and we are used to the standards, this reached a new low.
Olympic Holidays were far from blame free, we heard many poor customer service stories from other holiday makers, starting with cursory help at the airport, changing coaches on the way without adequate details or assurance, waiting by the side of the road etc. etc.
But Plakias is wonderful. Beautiful walking in stunning scenery. Would go back there again but never with Olympic Holidays and wouldn't even consider staying in Kostas Chrysoulla accommodation. There are many, many better apartments and studios.

I went to the accommodation expecting a quiet holiday as described in the information.
We were kept awake constantly by noise from the bar just below our rooms. It was dreadful and very stressful! The noise finished when the people (not necessarily from our accommodation!) went home - about 2am.
Also, the bar was by the pool as usual, and we were woken up as soon as it opened in the morning by children playing so you couldn’t even lie in after a bad night’s sleep!
We were eventually moved (at the end of our first week when changeover day arrived) to the far end of the 2 blocks and this was quite acceptable.
The rep was most understanding and helpful.
Be warned! If you want a quiet holiday, ask to have rooms well away from the pool area.

We booked our holiday 6 weeks before we went to Plakias beginning October 2006, we had a night fight and arrived early hours Saturday morning. When we came out of the airport we were directed to the Olympic 'Kiosk' to be told as we were the only two people going to Plakias they had got us a taxi, this holiday just got better! We were handed a safety leaflet with the name Murray, Costas Chrysoulla Room 7 on it.
Any way after an hour and a half taxi journey, hardly any traffic on the road, the taxi driver dropped us off at the studios, we said thank you and good night to him and off he went.
As it was now 5am and we were tired we decided to look for the studios quickly and retire. I spotted a sign saying room 7 - 20 (or similar) so I went up the stairs to check it out, I opened the door, put the first light switch on and the bathroom light came on, put the 2nd switch on and the main room light came on, I walked into the room and there was a man asleep in bed, I just froze there for a second and made my retreat, I switched the lights off and just pulled the door too, I didn’t close it properly as I was shocked.
I ran down the stairs to where Trevor was and asked to see the leaflet again, and it said Murray, Costas Chrysoulla room 7 Zorbas, Zorbas! Where was that? We just looked at each other and said it could only happen to us, so we left the cases and walked into Plakias to see if there was a possible chance that someone might be up. We spotted a man talking to a taxi driver and went over and asked if he knew where Zorbas was, he directed us to the Kebab House and said it was behind it.
So we went back to the road we came out of and went to the Kebab House and there is an Art Shop behind it with Zorbas on a sign above it. So we found out where the entrance was and I went to check the room out for a 2nd time, I put the switch on went upstairs found room 7, It was locked, room 6 has a key in the door so I went back down stairs and the lights all went out, I didn't know where the switch was so I had to stumble in the pitch black down the corridor and down the stairs and out on the pavement.
We finally got into the room and to bed and woke about 9m, opened the shutters and we discovered we were on the front with a fabulous sea view with a huge shared balcony, the room was small, clean with a "wet room" bath room, a fridge, small kitchenette, tv, and a kettle, we loved it and had a super week there and would go back again if we were guaranteed to have either room 5, 6 or 7 at Zorbas.
We first went to Plakias 8 years ago and it has hardly changed except for markings on the road outside the Platia to park cars, we found it cheap to eat and had some lovely meals.
We walked the Samaria Gorge on Oct 2nd and it was challenging and I was so pleased I had walked it, my husband Trevor was ever so proud of me. Our legs ached for a few days after that and getting on and off the sun beds or even walking down the stair was hard work.

Flew out of Humberside at 9 pm and it was 7 am the next day, when I arrived at the complex. The coach from the airport can take up to 3 hours so be warned it takes a long time to get to the apartments.
As for the place itself, the apartments are basic but very clean, everything worked and the staff are great. The pool is only small with limited sun beds but as the beach is so close most people mix between the two and it’s usually possible to get a place to lie out near the pool (which is very deep at one end).
Angelo the barman speaks really good English and is a local so if you need anything he will sort it for you. He is a nice bloke too always laughing and trying to make your holiday special. The bar there in the complex is open while people are in drinking (between 1 am and 2 am) but it was quiet and not obtrusive.
As for the resort it’s small but has everything you will need. There are a few bars and restaurants. A nice beach and even a bit where if you want you can go naked (be careful tho, its hot and the mozzies are out to get you). It can get really windy too at times; it’s a warm wind that keeps them damn mozzies at bay. But does sand blast those who love the beach.
It’s not a cheap holiday place a large beer will cost you €3, a meal for two with a couple of large beers will be about €25, two sun beds and a parasol on the beach is €5. There are lots of supermarkets that sell everything you could ever need and a large beer from the supermarket is about €1 and bread is about €1.20
We had a really good holiday APART from the travelling which to be honest is bad (three and a half hours cramped on a jet then three hours on a coach with all the others bits in-between).
If you are going you will have a great time after the trip to get there and the one to come home. The pace is so slow and relaxed it’s hard not to unwind. The people are friendly and it was great to mix with our southern cousins. North south divide Wot north south divide?
