Paraiso Club Aparthotel Reviews
" We booked this holiday late deal ad... "
Submitted By: shirley mawsonThe rooms were clean with a lovely balcony overlooking the sea, boats coming in night and day. Lovely to watch. The only thing I didn’t like was the pool was really, really small, not what I am used to, so we used to use the very large pool in Puerto Rico payable locally, but well worth it. The entertainment in this hotel was 100% thanks to the lovely first choice rep Steve. Who was absolutely magnificent.
We ate out at some lovely restaurants and I would recommend this hotel as a good base for exploring the island. Don’t know what the food is like cause we were self catering , but lovely places to eat out.

" After booking this late deal, we were... "
Submitted By: S PhillipsInstead, we got a clean, friendly and bearable hotel. Our room was spacious and clean, and we had a large balcony which enabled us to sunbathe on until around half 6 in the evening. The accommodation overall was ok, certainly not unbearable. But for a cheap price, what do you expect?
On site there was no restaurant, but there were many other places you could eat in the resort or in Puerto Rico. Also, there was a Spar at the bottom of the hillside, which supplied all our conveniences at reasonable prices.
Regarding the pool area, it was packed on certain days with people having to lay on the floor to sunbathe! It was definitely a place for the young as some Spanish at the poolside blared out the worst music ever! Yet, it was easy to escape that as there is a beach close by.
Overall, this holiday was a quick getaway, and for the price, was satisfied with what we got. It is true you get what you pay for, so we really can’t complain!

" We booked this holiday a week before... "
Submitted By: Mrs J StevensOn arrival at Las Palmas airport we found the rep and advised him we were collecting a car and wouldn't require our transfer, he said the accommodation was very nice and easy to find and he couldn't have been more right.
Our journey took us about 30 minutes straight down the GC1 and into Playa Del Cura, we noticed there wasn't much to do in our resort but we were expecting a quiet resort.
We arrived at the apartments and were greeted by a friendly receptionist and we were allocated room 2310, which was on the 3rd floor right by the pool, fantastic location.
On arriving into the room we were pleasantly surprised as we had not expected to have a separate bedroom, the room was spacious and clean, what more could we ask for?
Our room was cleaned every other day and we had our towels and bedding changed twice during the week. We hired the safe which was allocated in the room for 15 euros for the week.
We ate at the onsite snack bar most days for our lunch and we thought this was very reasonable.
We visited the Spar shop at the bottom of the hill for our daily essentials (the onsite mini market is only open 0900-1800).
We ate out every evening and found Puerto Mogan perfect, the food here we found was a bit cheaper than in Puerto Rico and on average cost about 35 euros for 2 main course and a couple of drinks each. We ate in Puerto Rico 2 or 3 times and ate around the harbour area as we found the commercial centers a bit too neon and loud again meals were reasonable but we paid about 45 euros for main course and a couple of drinks each.
All in all it was a good cheap week away and I would not hesitate to recommend this resort and accommodation to anyone.

" When we booked this holiday, last... "
Submitted By: Mr R JonesHowever, we enjoyed our week in the sun. If all you want is a base then the apartment is ok, however, our impression was that the bathroom was in dire need of refurbishment, with tiling etc. looking very tired. The kitchen area too needs to be updated. The kettle we had leaked water and had to be kept on the draining board and if we had wanted to eat in, the provision of kitchen equipment, etc. was very sparse.
On arrival at reception from the airport on our first night a young woman was explaining to the reception staff that she had had her handbag stolen and again later in the week we overheard another young female couple complain that their room had been entered and her mobile phone had been taken.
They were absent from the room for approx. 2 hours and had locked the door on their way out. When they got back they unlocked the door to get in and she immediately realised that her phone was no longer where she had left it. It was a brand new phone, purchased two days before the holiday. There was no forced entry and whoever took the phone must have had a key to get in. We had a safe in our room, but these two episodes were a little un-nerving.
The police were informed but the young women were told that there was little they could do. In the space of one week therefore there were two incidences that we knew of and I would therefore warn future holiday makers to be extra careful with their security arrangements.

" When we first booked up to go here we... "
Submitted By: Mrs E TaylorWe also found the staff at the apartments were really helpful and friendly. The place itself, Playa Del Cura was quiet but peaceful and it was only a 4 euro taxi to Puerto Rico if you were looking for nightlife or a bigger selection of restaurants.
Overall we found it a great week away and would really advise anyone to go there as it is a great place. I would definitely go back.

" After reading terrible reviews about... "
Submitted By: Mrs K MannOn arrival, we were very pleasantly surprised to say the least.
The staff on reception couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Our room was on the seventh floor. We had a view from our balcony over the beach and the bay, also the small resort of Playa del Cura itself. The room was spotlessly clean, with matching curtains, bed linen etc. It included a TV, kettle, toaster, coffee maker and fridge. The maids came every other day and left clean towels etc.
Although the restaurant was not open while we were there, the poolside bar served excellent breakfasts and snacks during the day. Happy hour was between 3.30 and 4.30 in the afternoon at the poolside bar and 8 p.m. til 9.p.m. at the main bar next to reception.
There was no entertainment, but we were not too bothered by that. The barman, Pedro was very friendly and he gave good measures of what were already cheap drinks. There was a small supermarket next to reception, where you could get most essentials. If you wanted a larger one there was a Spar 5 minutes down the hill, along with a few bars and restaurants. If you wanted to go to Puerto Rico, the buses ran regularly at 1.10 Euro each way, or taxis ordered from reception were 3.50 Euro.
The pool area had plenty of sunbeds, and the pool itself was quite big and very clean, although a bit chilly at this time of year! There was also a children’s separate pool. All in all we had a very enjoyable winter break at the Paraiso Club and would definitely go back for a winter break again!

" We found ourselves staying here after... "
Submitted By: Ms L J LaneWe found the staff helpful and friendly at all times. The receptionist went out of her way to help us. The room was cleaned and beds made most days with clean towels daily. The pool terrace was cleaned early every morning. It would have been better if the restaurant facilities had been available, only breakfast and snacks at the pool side bar were open. Although we did appreciate it was low season.
The resort itself was nice and peaceful but perfectly ok. The views from our balcony out over the bay were wonderful with full sun on us all day. (something we would not have enjoyed at Puerto Rico as most hotels/apartments. are some way from the bay and only overlook more apartments. on the opposite hillside). Frequent buses and Taxi's to take us into Puerto Rico if we wanted a bit more night life. The walk along the coast to Puerto Rico was a lovely afternoon out.
Overall we could not have asked anymore from a cheap last minute holiday. We were given the option to move back to our original apartments. after two days but decided to stay at Paraiso Club.
We were very happy with our decision and enjoyed a lovely relaxing holiday.
We will definitely consider going back there again.

" We booked a late deal/cancellation at... "
Submitted By: Mrs E A WatsonWe arrived at the apartments early evening 31/12/05 and had to go to the local supermarket as the shop on site was closed.
The apartment was filthy it had the floor mopped twice within the week, the beds were never made or changed, the towels were only changed once and then even one of our own went missing. This was reported to the reception and the following day we were informed that despite there being no wind the towel must have flown off the balcony.
The fridge seal was no good and the fridge didn't close properly so anything in the fridge wasn't properly cooled, the cupboard door was hanging off and the bath had a large hole in the top side which was very rusty. There was only one electric point in the kitchen area and one morning this came away from the wall, fortunately this was fixed that day.
The entertainment at the bar was zero every night only loud music from a cd/tape, I requested a brandy and coke with no ice but that request was even denied as the barman said the mixers were warm, and then a full bottle of coke poured into the same glass which is not on, hence that was the final drink in that bar.
The area itself though was very nice, the restaurants and bars within the area were pleasant and the locals friendly. It is on a regular bus route to either Puerto Rice, Playa Del Ingles and Puerto Mogan or if you are energetic then a walk into Puerto Rico is very nice.
Thank heavens for these things to help forget what we were going back to on an evening.

" My Fiancé and I booked our holiday... "
Submitted By: Miss L FosterThis was disgusting and completely ruined our holiday. The apartment was dirty, not just a bit unclean, filthy. The first thing I needed was to use the toilet having just spent several hours travelling, my fiancé used the bathroom and when I went to use the facility water was still pouring out, my fiancé had to fix the toilet before I could use it as water was pouring out of the cistern.
That alone, was not a problem, however just before I used the toilet I noticed the toilet roll holder seemed relatively flat and I wondered whether there was a roll at all, upon lifting the flap I discovered the toilet paper was completely mouldy, this was disgusting, I went to use the 'spare' this too was mouldy, not to the same extent but mouldy all the same. This combined with the general uncleanliness of the apartment was not a nice greeting.
As we arrived late in the evening at the apartment due to a delay I decided to mention this to my rep the following day. When the welcome meeting came round my fiance talked me out of saying anything, we were on holiday and he didn't want a fuss, so I didn't say anything.
That evening we went for showers and our shower didn't work, as I was to later find out along with the other half of the hotel. We asked the receptionist to fix it and he said it would be the next day sometime, as you can imagine we wanted to wash, he told us to bath, but there was no way I was prepared to sit in that filthy bath. As the room was so disgusting I asked if we could move to another room with a working shower.
The receptionist sent me to look at another room, equally grimy and the shower worked, barely. I told him we'd remain in our room as we had already slept in it but asked to shower in this room. At this point he gave us a room on the same floor as our own to use the shower instead, again the room was grim in terms of cleanliness but showering was made physically possible.
The next evening another guest in the hotel approached us to warn us that a lot of stealing was happening in the hotel at evenings when guests had gone out for dinner, she had been stolen from the evening before and had spent the whole day in the police station.
She wanted to warn us to be careful as she noticed we were relatively young, the thefts it were rumoured was an inside job, as there was no evidence of forced entry and in fact the stuff in her room had been taken during the night and out of their safe. From that night on I wanted to move hotels, we called an emergency number and the man on the other end was unhelpful and told us to wait until the morning.
From that night on we placed a chair in front of the door and a table in front of the patio window in an attempt that an intruder would stumble and wake us up. We then carried everything of value, with us everywhere everyday, a pain and not exactly safe either.
The next day at the pool people were discussing the stealing openly labelling it an 'inside job.' People were also mentioning the mice that were in to rooms on other floors, fortunately our only encounter came from a cockroach, which unfortunately came out of a wardrobe instead of through the door, only adding to my worries about the hygiene.
The beds were made every other day, and our washing up put away other than that no cleaning was done, it was disgusting.
Whilst the resort is in the middle of nowhere it was nice and quiet, the busses we found to be okay and we used them every day.
On the whole the holiday was hell, I wish I had not gone, I certainly wish we had not paid nearly £1000 just for the two of us, I will never return to Gran Canaria, I have never felt so unsafe and never wanted to end a holiday as desperately, if I had the money and ability to have flown home I would have. I think that the hotel should be closed, as we checked out more people were complaining, moving rooms, hotels and trying to get their showers fixed. People should be warned about the hotel and not subjected to such an awful experience, let alone pay for it.

" Playa Del Cura and the Paraiso Club... "
Submitted By: Mr J. CarvalhoThe resort itself is dull, the beach was very ugly and there was not alot of choice when it came to eating and drinking there.
Also if you get ill you have to go all the way to the farmacia in Puerto Rico to buy medication.
It’s like the town that impossible to get out off. You have the choice of the buss or taxis! there’s a tiny taxi rank and taxis are very infrequent though. The buss is ok except when you ring the bell and they don’t stop the bus and you end up in the middle of nowhere!
As for the Paraiso Club, it was like the hotel from hell. We arrived to find that the shower didn’t work properly. After a day of travelling it would have been nice to have a shower and refresh ourselves. Apparently Not!
The shower was only spilling out "skin peeling off" hot water. Reception informed us it would be fixed the following day. The next day we were given a new shower faucet/head thing and the shower was then ok for the rest of the holiday - except that it would run out of hot water and turn freezing cold halfway through showering.
The kitchen was hilarious! It came with a kettle and toaster but the whoever fitted the cupboards placed them over the only plughole in the kitchen!!!!! this meant we had to take these appliances to the other side of the room and plug them into the only other available socket in the room. The fridge was pretty rank and the door didn’t shut properly.
Then there was a TV. We were used to the pay as go TV thing having stayed in other hotels on the island. But this was a classic, it didn’t work at all, all we could get was fuzz and there was no remote control.
The apartment next door to ours was condemned and the people staying there were not told they where being moved until they came back from shopping one day to find all their stuff was gone. Then the builders started hammering in the early hours of the morning!!
The cleaning was wishy washy, they came every other day and just gave the floor a lick and a promise as there were still stains on the floor. The cleaner also had the cheek to complain about hairs on the floor however the room wasn’t supplied with any sort of dustpan and brush, which meant we depended them to come and do their job properly. The cleaners would also come at ridiculous hours of the morning. NY day being a prime example the cleaner was ringing the door bell at 10am?
As for the staff - useless. They were unwilling to order taxi’s and claimed they didn’t know what bus went to Puerto Rico and whether the spar was open on Sundays or not. Surely this is vital information that they should know?? I came home one morning ( in the early hours) to find the nigh watchman passed out snoring his head off on the sofa. Any one could have walked in and set fire to the place and he wouldn’t have known!

" My husband and I booked a last... "
Submitted By: Not SpecifiedUpon arriving at the apartments we found them to be spotless, and maid service was on a daily basis for a quick clean , and sheets were changed twice during our weeklong stay.
The pool area and poolside bar were kept very clean and the staff friendly.
You are also able to use the adjoining property , which is part of the same company, and at the end of the road is a very large hotel , which again you are most welcome to use the facilities of.
There is a beach within 5 minutes from the apartment, which again was very clean, and Puerto Rico is approximately 5 mins ride away.
Amaordes Beach is also within walking distance and well worth visiting
There is only one small shopping arcade within this areas, however this caters for everyone having several bars and restaurants to suit for all ages and tastes.
Would definitely go back again - a very relaxing holiday.

we couldnt have all inclusive at the time because the resturant was shut down from food poisoning and then my child cut her foot in the kids pool because the concret was sticking out and she couldnt play on the kids area because it was all blocked off because it had all collapsed!!!
it might be better now but the only way i enjoyed that holiday was from the people we met and when we got out of the hotel
also when it was overcast you couldnt do anything in the hotel because all the games in the games room were covered in laundry and there was no entertainment and the bar was always closed!!!!!
Advice: great place to be
Activities: amadores and puerto rico
