Submitted By: Mr G CherrimanHamilton Court: These were fab apartments, brilliant. We had a 2 bedroom and the space is perfect, there was a big lounge/diner, decent kitchen, 1 big bedroom, 1 moderate size bedroom and 2 bathrooms (very handy) and a big balcony off the lounge and main bedroom. Whilst basic and maybe could do with a lick of paint (just being picky), it was clean and just what you need for a holiday base.
The pool area is perfect, Big pool, a little cold but still nice, plenty of sunbeds, a great play park for the kids, our 2 year old loved the sand pit and slides. There is the Lady Hamilton Cafe/Restaurant on site which serves the usual beer/coffee/snacks throughtout the day and then dinner later on, we didnt try the evening menu but the Menorca Sausage and cheese toastie was great with a pint of San Migel !
The staff were all really friendly and helpful, no complaints at all.
The beach just down from the apartments was beautiful, very clean sand, crystal clear warm water with lots of fish swimming around. Oh, if you want some amusing entertainment everyday, then, wait till around 11:00am and a bunch of italians staying at the hotel next to Hamilton all come down and start doing mad exercise games, all running madly around shouting who knows what ! insane, but it kinda looked fun ! and when you walk past the hotel they are all on spin bikes madly peddling in the heat, and thats a holiday ?!?!?
Ok, thats the good stuff done, time for the bad.
Cost ! everything in Santo Tomas costs a fortune, be prepared, take more money than you planned to, it wont be enough ! at the time we went the 1 euro was about 80p. I will give a quick rundown on average costs for items.
Sunbeds on the Beach 18e (roughly £14) for 2 beds all day - take towels and lay on the sand, its nice and warm and free
1 Pint Beer - 3.50e / £2.80
Lunch - 3 toasted Sandwiches - 2 beers, 2 soft drinks - 25e / £20
Dinner - 4 Adult meals, 1 Child, 2 beers, 1 bottle wine, 2 desserts, 3 spirit coffees - 100e / £80
And the shops, unbelievable we are all used to resort shop prices but this is in a different league - they basically charge what they want, Milk is £1.60 for 2 pints, Swim nappies 11 nappies for £12, Bread £3 for a sliced white local. If you are prepared to look you can buy stuff at a reasonable price,
Maybe I am a little out of touch with resort prices, as my last abroad holiday was in Turkey in 2005, but it was nowhere near this expensive. And also there is the Strong Euro not helping things, but I do get the impression that the local prices will change to always be near the sterling value.
If you have a hire car for trips out then it would be prudent to stock up on supplies at one of the big supermarkets near Mahon while you're at it.
Entertainment (or lack of it) - The night life in Santo Tomas is all hotel based. Apart from Las Dunas, this had some entertainment for the kids, disco type things, which was ok, nothing for the adults though unless you fancy doing the okey kokey or superman ! There are no bars/pubs to speak of, just hotel based which all seem to shut at 11pm.
We were told that the Victoria Playa had entertainment on but we didnt go to see so I cant comment on what it was like.
Food - ok, the food was not awful, it wasnt even bad really, just there was not much choice, there are not many restuarants and what ones they are all seem to server the same stuff, chicken & chips, fish & chips, pork & chips....I think you get the idea. We did find some places we liked.
Don Tomas - this was hotel based and was really nice, friendly food was good, I enjoyed the Spag Carbonara and the rest of the family enjoyed their meals aswell.
Es Pins (think thats what it was called) - this was nice too, nice views over the beach and the food was good.
Las Dunas - This was good too, had a nice sea bream there, too pricey to have everynight though.
We did try some local food, i.e Paella, but it was not really that good, so ended up sticking to Brit favourtites, or at least what they think is the brit favourites.
Kids meals are all the usual types, fish fingers, chips, beans, nuggets etc...
Weather - We went in Sept so it was always going to be changeable - which is was, 3 days of nice sunshine, then 3/4 days of rain, thunder (very impressive 12 hour lightning storm) but it was always warm. This is not a complaint on Santo Tomas as you can never tell with the weather and it was Sept.
Ok, Conclusion time...
All in all we had a good time, despite the prices and the lack of food choice, the resort is very clean, friendly and very kid safe, there are loads of parks scattered about the resort and of course the beach is a child winner every day !
Who should go - Families with young children 1-6 years (any older might get bored)
Who shouldnt go - Anybody wanting bar/club nightlife, wanting to try new foods, lots going on etc...
At the end of the day it is a 2 hour flight from Gatwick and a 30min transfer from the airport, just right for fidgety kids, It is purely a beach holiday, nothing more and for that reason we did have a good time and so did our 2 year old, at that age he can just happily play in the sand and water (which did get choppy at times)
Hope this helps and happy holidays.

Armed with 10 exercise bikes and a set of speakers that would do a job a Glastonbury, they belted out a damn bass beat to their idiot cyclists who never got off the spot and juet leered at anyone who wanted the din turned down. Just think, the whole of the left end of Santo Tomas drowned out by just 10 sweaty people on a bike being shouted at through a megaphone by the sadist leading the attempt to induce heart attacks in 90 degrees heat. Marvellous. We may as well have been at the Somme just without the shrapnel.
The Mossa lot need to do something a bit sharpish or not only will splendid restaurants like Es Pins go bust through lack of trade but the resort will be shorn of its regular income who will, and now are, looking elsewhere.

Submitted By: Ms Y WilkinsonThe apartment was, as usual, absolutely lovely. The maid service faultless. The whole place was clean, including the pool and pool area. Everyone was helpful and friendly. The food in the restaurant was very nice with a varied menu.
This time we stayed for 2 weeks and it was still not long enough. I hired a car for the whole 2 weeks and visited a lot of the island. Having a car does mean if you are self catering you can drive to the larger supermarkets, which have more choice and are cheaper. Prices are quite high in the resort.
It’s a very safe place for families, however as has been said before it is quite quiet, so not much for teens to do, just family entertainment in the evenings.

Submitted By: Mr S MunroStaff were very pleasant and helpful at all times; apartments were spotless as was the pool and surrounding area. in late September weather was very pleasant, beaches reasonably quiet.
If you are easily embarrassed beware of the nudist beaches round the headland from the main beach.
At this time of year in Santo Tomas most holidaymakers were either couples 40-50 or quite a few elderly people. Most restaurants were good though evening entertainment was a bit limited.
Suggest hiring a car to get round the island.

Submitted By: Mrs Christine HumphreysWe had room no 103 and the large double bedroom we had, had a noisy air-conditioning unit on the small balcony outside our bedroom. When we complained we were told the air-conditioning was for the bar and restaurant, which our room was above and they said they would turn it off between midnight and 8am but this never happened, so I bought earplugs instead.
The bedrooms had a ceiling fans which was just as well because we had to keep the balcony door closed. Apart from this the apartment was well equipped plenty of plates glasses and cups etc. The large balcony looked over the pool and you could see the sea a bit further over.
The restaurant belonging to the apartments (Lady Hamilton) was very good we ate in here a couple of times staff very friendly and helpful. Whilst there apart from the Lady Hamilton, we ate at Es Pins, Don Tomas (my favourite), the buffet at Sol Menorca Hotel (very good value at 20euro for as much as you could eat plus wine and water) the Chinese above the supermarket (my sister and her family went here they liked it but I personally can’t comment) and a restaurant along the beach near a kind of look out point can’t remember name.
We didn't have a bad meal at any of them.
We found Menorca to be more expensive than the places we usually holiday in (Greek Islands) we were spending approximately between 156 and 166 Euros per night for 7 of us. So be aware and take extra money, my sister had to get more money from the cash machine but the ATM in Santo Tomas had run out of money so we went to Es Migron Gran to the cash machine there.
You can walk into Son Bou across the cliffs and along the beach but this was quite hard going and took over an hour. We decided to get a bus back but buses didn’t go direct to Santo Tomas - you had to get a bus to Mahon change to get a bus to Santo Tomas. We got a taxi back but this cost 24 euro as there was no beach road there was no direct route.
We also got a bus into Es Migron Gran which is a typical Spanish village but apart from a church not much else to see. We also got a bus into Citudella but because of the bus times only spent about 2 hours there and it wasn’t long enough to see everything.
Summing up we thought a week was enough Santo Tomas is tiny and the entertainment is mostly hotel based.
We had my 2 nieces with us who were aged 18 and 21 and there really isn’t enough for people of that age to do. It’s a lovely place for families with young children, its very child friendly with a lovely sandy beach and a lot of play areas for children.
Would we return? yes but not to Santo Tomas but possibly to another resort in Minorca and hire a car to get to see everything.

Submitted By: Mrs WishartPool area was always spotlessly clean and there are plenty of sun loungers and parasols. Restaurant staff extremely friendly and quite a good menu.
There was nobody to greet us on our arrival and show us to our room as we arrived fairly late. We thought this was poor. We had to get the key from the restaurant and when we found the room it had no cot in it (as previously requested) which meant that my 17th month old exhausted son could not get to bed. It was also a one bedroom apartment and not a two bedroom as we had booked and paid for. We insisted to see a manager and after 40 mins plus she arrived. Rather reluctantly and after a slightly heated conversation she agreed to go to the office to check whose mistake it was. She came back and admitted that is was their fault but couldn't do anything until morning. A cot was then brought to the room for us. We didn't get to our proper room until midday the following day. Rather inconvenient. We asked for an upgrade and this was offered but not until the end of the first week of our holiday. She was supposed to come and show us and nothing more was ever mentioned. We asked on the last day of our holiday, in light of the poor service we feel we received, if they would settle our small restaurant bill (there was only one meal on the bill) and were told it was out of the question, and we were made to feel as though we wanted something for nothing. They wouldn't even pay for the safely deposit box for us and said to be grateful that we'd had two fans for free. They threatened to call the police can you believe if we didn't pay for it ourselves.
Mandy the so called manageress was both rude and aggressive in her approach and her management skills leave a lot to be desired.
So, overall, an average accommodation but should you have a problem don't rely on it being sorted to your satisfaction.
The resort itself is ideal for families with young children but the food is very 'chicken, salad and chips' and lacks authenticity.

Submitted By: Mrs A MurphyVery spacious, well equipped, good views.
The Pool was very nice, kids loved it, and we were right on the very safe beach with its shallow waters.
Definitely a place to relax, although if you like it lively you might find this resort too small and quiet. We've been to Menorca before and seen the sights, so were quite happy this time to chill out by pool or beach.
The supermarkets are quite expensive as previously mentioned on this web site, and there are only a few gift shops, but the goods are of good quality compared to other holiday resorts we've visited.
One criticism; we booked for half board at these apartments, and were very disappointed in the choice and quality of the menu, which was different from the a la carte. The Thomson rep was apparently unable to rectify this, so we took matters into our own hands, and reached an agreement about menu contents with the restaurant manager.
All in all, a good place to holiday with a mixed generation family, especially if you are in need of some relaxation.

Submitted By: Ms Y WilkinsonNot much for teens, no raves or nightclubs. It is ideal for families with younger children and older people looking for a safe quaint holiday.
The apartments and pool area are beautifully clean and well tended, everything you need is either in the apartment or available. Everyone is very friendly and it feels safe. This was my first holiday as a single parent and I am happy to go back there on my own.

Submitted By: yvieAs usual the staff were brilliant, the apartment was lovely, we all had a lovely time.
Definitely not a place to go to if you are looking for a lively nightlife. There isn't anything for teens to do, just a few hotels in the evenings that have entertainment.
It’s a quiet happy resort. Definitely worth hiring a car and see the rest of the Island. We like going to Monte Torro. On a clear day you can see the sea all round!
Children are safe (and as a single parent I feel safe too) its very family oriented.

Santo Tomas is a very quiet town. There are a few restaurants but it could definately do with a few more (to say the least!). We didnt find that any of the food was very nice, which was a shame. The nicest meal we had was at home, when we had a BBQ. Also there is no where to have a cooked breakfast apart from one pub or the hotels which are expensive.
The beach was lovely. Very clean and not too busy. I could not believe how clear the sea was for Europe. We managed to snorkel and saw lots of fish. All the same but lots of them.
We had a feb time away in Menorca. And would like to go back one day especially if Santo Tomas has more restaurants! :-)
Advice: Great accomodation, lovely beach!
