Punta prima where really a good place...
9 / 10
Aug 2006, Mr Stoquart Madmyke

Punta prima where really a good place to go (8 days, we are from Belgium) and it is certainly more dedicated to family. But we rally enjoy this place and the services. I cannot agree with some other comments about services and quality of food. Maybe it is "cultural" but the variety of the buffet (changed regularly) was enough to compose various meals for us and the children every days. The attitude of the people there was really kind and available most of the time. Ok I agree that some time we had to call someone because there was a rush of people but what is a minute more or less when you have the time? In another way some "customers" not really nice and particularly an English family that where really disgusting when eating (the table was like after a war) but the workers of Insotel never say a word about (I really did keep cool myself not to do it).
Anyway Insotel Punta Prima is a good idea for family, we certainly will come back over there and a last word, if you fell really unhappy the most the time of your life, you will be not happy there but probably never anywhere.

We went to this resort last year and...
1 / 10
Aug 2006, R Lancashire

We went to this resort last year and I would agree with the comments of those last year. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad and we also went in the quiet time. We went back this year because of the swimming pools designed for small children (we have 3, aged 5 months, 2 and 6), which they loved. I can only say to those thinking of going...don't even think about it, the place is a terrible waste of money.
Here are the reasons;
- The food is just downright boring and most of the time the wonderful salads are just the hot stuff from last night, cold and covered in mayonnaise. If you like queuing for anything that resembles hot, cooked food then its paradise, but as the resort is popular with our continental cousins who don't have the same views on queuing then it all gets very depressing when you have been barged out of the way for the 5th time. Also if anything remotely tasty appears you need to move quickly as it evaporates within minutes and is not seen again for the duration of the holiday.
- The food hygiene standards are poor. I actually watched a chef, with no head covering, wipe sweat on his palm and then put his hand on some slices of bread that he then placed in a tray for people to use for sandwiches. It’s no wonder that I had food poisoning on the 4th day there and this was not, as a patronising member of the staff said, because I was not used to the heat (it had been 35c in the UK when we left).
- The wine is just bottled vinegar...I think most Spanish would be ashamed.
- This is not all inclusive as anything after 11pm you have to pay, for including water. Great when you have food poisoning.
- The rooms are getting shabby and I guarantee you will have at least one thing that is broken or does not work properly.
- Housekeeping is very tardy, taking aside the fantastic and friendly maid we made friends with called Carmen (the kids thought she was great, she was a student earning money before she went to Uni in Barcelona). If you wanted anything, like an extra toilet roll due to food poisoning, you would have to make at least 4 calls to reception and then wait 24 hours.
- The higher grade staff were just all infuriatingly bureaucratic. The waiters, maids and normal staff were generally OK, but get one who had any power and they were able to equal a Parisian maitre d’ for downright awkwardness. Generally you get the feeling everything is a problem which is not what you expect from 5 stars.
Now on to Thompson. We discovered via another family that Thompson pay Insoltel 2900 euros for 10 nights in July for a family of 2 adults and 2 children sharing. The brochure brings this in at around £4200. Taking aside the obvious first class airplane seats, I will come on to those in a minute, and the luxury coach transfer, this is a nice fat profit of around £1.5k. Now do you see why I said don't waste your money. Most of its profit to Thompson and the agent. Also don't pay a premium for sitting together. Their interpretation of sitting together stretches the imagination. And don't think about changing when you get to the airport. It's your fault you pre booked and there is nothing they can do about it as it arranged 24 hours previously. Funny this is not a problem on easyjet. It seems when ever you get a problem with Thompson they seem to turn round and give you the impression it’s your fault for having used a cheap? Tour Company like Thompson and you should sit down and stop moaning.
As for the travel agent I think they are all like rubber dinghy in desert...useless.
Well rant over. but I can honestly say that unless you get it as a bargain price for this resort spend your money going somewhere half board were they give you a proper 5 star treatment.

We have one child aged 3 and were...
8 / 10
Aug 2006, Mrs J R

We have one child aged 3 and were looking for a holiday that would be entertaining for her with plenty of other children and activities.
We all had a fantastic holiday at Insotel and our daughter absolutely loved it. It is certainly a family resort and it has a lot of plusses as well as a few minuses. Overall we found it easy and relaxing, because our daughter was very happy, the other people at the resort were nice, and the pools were good (north pool in particular as it was less busy and there is more shade).
However, there are certainly a few niggles about the resort that could irritate and there is room for improvement. Part of this is because there are a lot of people at this hotel. The hotel is quite cleverly designed so that you do not appreciate the full extent of this, but towards the end of our holiday it was nearing capacity and I do not think we would have enjoyed it as much if it got any busier.
Generally, the food is mediocre although breakfast was actually pretty good. They did seem to make an effort to offer a choice, it is just that you have to persevere to get what you want sometimes and it is not worth it. The food did not spoil our holiday, as we had a young child and did not want to spend hours in the restaurant anyway, but it may for someone else.
The service level was also lacking. I think this may be because many customers were on all inclusive and they did not feel the need to make an effort.
However, the entertainment team really made an effort and were great especially in the kids club. The kids club is flexible and offers a variety of daily activities for all ages. You can stay with your child or leave them there.
The evening entertainment was good for the kids (not so much for the adults) and the fact that the kids were entertained meant that we could have a drink in relative peace (which was great). Some shows were very good.
It is not really 5 star, but it was not as expensive as some 5 star resorts, plus you do get a small apartment which is handy as the children get a separate room. Overall we had a good time and enjoyed our holiday.

We went to this resort a bit dubious...
8 / 10
Jul 2006, Mrs S. T

We went to this resort a bit dubious as the reports on this hotel were so mixed. But we had a fantastic time, the resort was beautiful the food was delicious I even treated myself to a glass of cava with breakfast! We booked with first choice, and from arriving at the airport everything went very smoothly!
We went as two families myself my husband as a couple and 2 more adults with 2 kids. Upon arrival at the reception we did have to wait some time to be dealt with to check in, and they only had one room ready! Which annoyed us a bit as it was 3pm. When they did get the second room ready, the rooms were not next to each other as we had booked which was slightly annoying too. Another thing which irritated us was the fact we were given 2 free hire cars for 2 days each, (as we were not planning to hire a car), none of us took our driving licenses! Gutted!
But I could not fault the food one bit we were waited on for drinks, self serve buffet which had a variety of delicious foods. Sirloin steak cooked in front of you pancakes, fish, chicken, fresh bread cooked every meal time. Divine! The service was a little strained but you just have to pick your times for meals and its fine. The bars were slow but again you just have to wait till the bar is not as busy and double up your drinks when you go.
The only problem we did have was to find cigarettes, you cant get them in supermarkets in Spain anymore, and there is only one bar in the village (not the complex) where you can buy them from in a vending machine and there is not a tobacconist in the little village, so take some with you from the airport in the UK!
The village and the beach are in easy walking distance 5 minutes at the most with little market stalls in the evenings, the beach is white powdery sand and the sea is really shallow fro kids wonderful! At night (and morning) there is a little train which takes you into a picturesque village (not a lot there mind) but the train ride was good fun.
The rooms were what you expect from a large resort like this everything you need granite worktops in the bathroom, lovely powerful shower. Twin beds plenty of wardrobe space. The only problem in the room were a few ants, I just sprayed some bug repellent and we didn’t see them again!
The pools were really spacious and they also have a wellness centre where no kids under 16 are allowed (which was fab) with 2 Jacuzzis, sauna, steam rooms in there looking over the sea. Gorgeous! All part of the all inclusive. Massage are available from the beauty parlour next door, which was lovely too 50 Euros for 30 mins of heaven.
I agree the entertainment for adults was not very good, but you can make your own entertainment your on holiday, romantic walks into the busting little village and there are buses every half an hour to everywhere. There is a big club house on the resort which have performances on at night like flamenco dancing etc.
I could ramble on all day, very pleased with the holiday the kids did too lots to do and explore. Like the other lady said its a fantastic hotel for middle class families!
Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Having read many reviews about the...
2 / 10
Jul 2006, Mr A Williams

Having read many reviews about the resort we did think this would be an excellent choice when travelling with a baby of 4 month, 4+ 11 year old and having returned we cannot believe what a poor hotel this really is.
Arrival was prompt from the airport only to be let down by a very poor reception that took 40 mins to process both ourselves and one other family who had been there at least 20 mins before us and having walked through the reception during our stay when bigger parties arrived I would say this did not improve although this is quite minor when you consider the following.
First choice -- Last choice the rep was never available when she was due on site and having read the misleading guide as to where to find her I spent over an hour just wandering around the sight looking for her only to find out in the end she could not make it. The info centre was full of reps from German tour operators constantly, why cant UK companies do this? There were enough of us there to warrant it!!
First impressions of the resort were very clean and pleasant, however if you are disabled or any sort of heart condition this place HAS to be avoided. The walk to your rooms is up an extremely steep hill and this is even steeper if you wish to go from the restaurants up to the top pool. I must say any photos you see of this are very misleading they do not give a real impression of the hill. The resort is huge, they say 120 rooms but no way, double that at least. To cater for the vast hordes of people is a real strain on the recourses. It is well understaffed and the staff know it but at least keep there cool when faced with masses. The food is awful it would not be worthy of a 2 star rating based on what is available. It is all the same, 100% frozen produce and salads are the only fresh things available and the only thing that can offer you any sort of flavour is a stilton and onion roll.
The rooms were kept clean although we did have a studio room opened for us and this obviously gets little use as it was very fusty. The biggest complaint here is that we went out for the day and returned to find the maid had left the door wide open. I raised this with reception and as I expected they did not care one bit and the maid of course denied leaving the door open.
The positive side is that the kids enjoyed the break plenty for them to do.
Nothing for adults evening entertainment was poor.
If you are seriously considering this hotel I would strongly urge you to look elsewhere, it is not value for money, 2 stars not 5! And it feels like you are on a factory conveyor belt
To sum up - Crap, don’t bother

The Punta Prima club was by far and...
9 / 10
May 2006, Mr M J Arrowsmith

The Punta Prima club was by far and away the best family holiday we have been on, I have been to lots of more expensive destinations on an all inclusive basis and have to say we really enjoyed it.
The accommodation is just right, a nice balcony and bedroom a separate shower and small kitchenette although I can’t see why you would need to use this! Didn’t use the air con as one it wasn’t up and running and two it was plenty cool enough with the overhead fan running. I don’t usually subscribe to listening to other peoples verdicts on holiday but I read some pretty awful things about this resort from people who sound down right ungrateful.
The food was fantastic they cater for just about everyone’s tastes all buffet style there are chefs carving meats and preparing paellas, I read one review saying they had to queue for 30 mins for a table and all the food was cold but my advice would be to go earlier.
I won’t deny if you didn’t have a young family this really isn’t the place for you as there are loads of small children crying or running around but if you have small children you won’t even hear or notice it.
The pools where great (not cold) the waiters and staff where really friendly and did all they could to help. The whole resort was spotless too which with all the families is a task you would agree, we hired a car to take in the sights and was really easy to get around I can recommend Cala Galdana as a must a lovely little cove and beach
I think this place is a perfect destination for a middle class family holiday ok its not 5 star pristine and snooty its just a really lovely holiday that me and all the people i spoke to agreed on.

The Insotel Punta Prima is not worthy...
0 / 10
Sep 2005, Mrs S Rodin

The Insotel Punta Prima is not worthy of its 5 star rating in any way. The complex itself is well maintained and the communal areas are attractive.
The main swimming pools were very cold but the children’s pool was a good idea and very popular. The accommodation is very basic, there is no microwave and the kitchenette is enclosed in a cupboard and is very small. The apartments have no outlook and the level of cleanliness was questionable. The food was our main complaint. We had the All Inclusive Gold option which meant that we ate all our meals in the restaurant. We usually queued for up to 30 mins for a table and when we were given one it was uncleared and the restaurant was full of dirty tables but no people. All meals were buffet style and the food was usually cold.
The quality of the food was reasonable but the same choice of food was offered at each mealtime. There was no choice of wine except red, white or Rose which I find unbelievable for a 5 star resort. The restaurant offered no cutlery or small glasses for children. The other restaurants did not offer any better food alternatives. The evening entertainment was very poor although the children did enjoy the mini disco.
Overall this resort cannot provide 5 star accommodation or service due to its size and I would not recommend it due to the poor value for money. Punta Prima itself has a lovely beach but is a very small resort, hiring a car is essential if you want to take in all that Menorca has to offer.

We travelled with Thomson a la carte...
7 / 10
Sep 2004, Miss R Smith

We travelled with Thomson a la carte which advertises Insotel Punta Prima Prestige as 5 stars. It’s getting towards 5 stars but at the moment I think it doesn’t deserve 5 stars - 4 would be acceptable.
The rooms (which are all suites) were great - you couldn’t fault them - massive lounge area, huge balcony, a separate shower room and toilet, as well as a fantastic bathroom including a massage shower, Jacuzzi bath, toilet and double sink. The bathroom could have done with a bit of a harsher clean, but it wasn’t too bad.
The hotel is let down by the staff, the bar facilities and its general atmosphere. The staff, although polite, took time (and we’re talking minutes) to acknowledge you when you were waiting at reception, there was no concierge service (and it’s meant to be 5 stars), and some of the waiting staff in the evening almost ignored the guests. No one was outright rude, but you always got the feeling you were getting in the way or asking too much.
The food in the restaurant (which is all buffet) was really good. All the starters are buffet, with a selection of vegetables & desserts also buffet. But every night, without fail, there was a selection of 3 meats and 3 fish to chose from which was cooked there and then for you. You can have as large a portion or as small a portion as you liked. Lobster (yes, some of them were alive!) Was also available 2 nights out of the 14. The wine selection (Spanish obviously) was fine, and reasonably priced. The restaurant was brightly lit, leading to a distinct lack of atmosphere. You couldn’t meander slowly over your meal, you felt as though you needed to eat up and get out. There was also a lot of children in the restaurant area, and even though the hotel requests families eat before 8pm, they always seemed to be there until long after this time.
The poolside bar was poor. There was an extremely limited selection of food (which was very poor quality) and it was incredibly expensive (for both food and drink). Luckily, there are three or so supermarkets just outside the hotel in Punta Prima which we used to visit every morning to get fresh bread and cheese for a lunchtime snack (the suites have a kitchenette inc fridge).
We could always get sunloungers, and it was good to see that the pool area didn’t open until 9am (maybe something to do with the time of year we went - early Sept).
The Prestige Suites are in a self-contained complex within the Insotel. Prestige guests can get into the Insotel complex, but Insotel guests can’t get into the Prestige complex. It might sound a bit snobby but I appreciated this. Insotel has a thousand rooms, so in high seasons it gets really busy. It was good that we could go outside, anytime of the day, and always find empty sun loungers.
Entertainment in the hotel is relaxing and calming. Pianist, classical music etc. Prestige guests can walk over to the Insotel hotel for livelier entertainment.
Punta Prima is a small resort, not too built up. Very relaxing. Good distance from Mahon, which is easily accessible using the excellent bus system on Menorca.
