Hotel Cala Galdana & Villas d'Aljandar

Great hotel and location, certainly 4 star. Recommend upgrading to a Junior Suite room. Excellent food, very clean, good evening entertainment. Visited a number of other resorts on the island and this has the best location. Drinks a little expensive. Great family beach, calm sea. Sunbeds are expensive at 8 euros each per day. Would certainly recommend this hotel and resort.

A very friendly, clean hotel set in a lovely bay. The hotel has recently been refurbished and you can tell everything was so well cared for. The gardens at the back mentioned by the travel agent have actually been transformed into waterfalls and very relaxing to listen to, they are switched off early evening so they don't bother you at night. We booked at the back but I would now pay the extra to have a room at the front, not only does it give you a sea view, the sun shines there in the afternoon (for those sun lovers) and you can see the evening entertainment from you balcony. The evening entertainment was really good quality and they have a 14 day programme so you don't see the same act twice. The food was a good quality with plenty of variety for every taste. Although we don't have children anymore, we were impressed by the attendance of a lifeguard at the pool, something seldom seen abroad. Although this was our first visit to Menorca we are worldly travelled preferring to go once and then visit somewhere else the holiday, however, if there was a good deal come up we would certainly return to the hotel. Having met people from the nearby Sol, we were extremely glad we did opt for there after listening to their comments!

What a fab place. Excellent facilities for young or old.The entertasinment at night is good and the staff go out of there way to help you. The Hotel is very Children friendly. We went with First Choice who too were excellent and stayed in the hotel on the top floor with a view of the waterfalls at the rear of the hotel.It was ideal for us with a 3 year old daughter.Highly recommend this hotel.

This was our second visit to this hotel the first time being in 2000. We did have one of the apartments on that occasion (allthough we hadnt booked one) but we were not so fortunate this time. When we arrived they couldnt find our reservation so we spent 15 minutes whilst they sorted it out. Our room was on the fifth floor but at the back of the hotel, I do agree with others owing to the fact of a noisy waterfall at the back of the hotel, also the balcony doesnt get any full sun. We were more fortunate than the guests staying on the lower floors as all they looked at was a rock formation. The rooms are ok but the bathrooms could do with a makeover, They are quite small and need re-tiling. My only other gripe was the noisiness of the maids when cleaning the rooms, some mornings they started at 7 o clock, dragging furniture across the floors, it was virtually impossible to have a lie-in. The food (in my opinion) was excellent, plenty of choice and hot too. The entertainment was pretty poor, artistes singing along to backing tapes, with the exception of the Beatles tribute and a band called Sailers, it was pretty repetetive. The costs of sunbeds on the beach is pretty extortionate, 22 euros for a umbrella and two sunbeds. Needless to say we o nly went on the beach once. It is much cheaper to buy two lilos and a parasol from the shop and leave them behind. All in all it was a good holiday, thanks mainly to the weather. I would defintely go back to Cala Galdana as I like the resort but next time might try one of the other hotels

This became our choice of honeymoon location for a week. We chose an apartment suite rather than a hotel room, so stayed in one of the small blocks to the left of the hotel (as viewed from the front). The quality of the apartment was commendable: especially a decent amount of room on the balcony and a well fitted bathroom. And we felt very comfortable. A notable exception was that although tea/coffee making facilities were provided, there was not even a courtesy supply of tea/coffee/milk. Surely something to be expected of a 4-star hotel? We'd chosen half-board, so were subject to the usual vagueries of quality and choice expected of a large self-service buffet: heat of food was variable, but it was edible with sufficient variety throughout the week. You'd have to be really picky to leave hungry! One gripe we had though was having to pay for all drinks, including water, in the evening, but not at breakfast! Often we'd have a few drinks in the room before dining! Staff attitude posed no issues (and we didn't mention we were on honeymoon). Mention must be made of the evening entertainments laid on after dinner on a stage by the pool. These were 'tribute' acts, except for one evening of "Beijing Acrobats", and so we relived the heady days of Abba, Bee-Gees, Four Tops, Beatles, West Life and finally a trio of George Michael, Anastasia and Freddy Mercury! Beatles were notably Fab while self-deprecating, some took themselves a bit too seriously, while what Freddy lost in singing ability (and a Spanish accent!) he really made up in showmanship - not to be missed! The experience could be aided through the purchase of notably over-priced drinks from the poolside bars (could have done with a hip-flask!). The entertainments usually finished well before 11pm, and then all was quiet. We haven't written much about the location itself, because that's independent of the hotel, except to say that it's a lovely setting, and as it was May the beaches weren't over-crowded, and the meadows were full of flowers. Would we go back? Well, yes. My new wife wants to retire to Cala Galdana! :)

We stayed at the Hotel Cala Galdana in Sept 2006 for two weeks on a half board basis. We booked the holiday in September 2005 as we wanted to be sure of what we were getting and didn't want to rely on last minute allocations or anything like that. There were 4 couples in our party including ourselves, and we had our 15 month old baby with us. We asked for sea-views and adjoining rooms and a cot for the baby. When we arrived we were told they had overbooked the hotel and that they had allocated us two apartments to share between us. Firstly, this is not what we had booked as none of us wanted to share with each other and the apartments were located away from the main hotel which is not what we wanted when we had a small baby. Plus, one of the couple were smokers, so it was unfair to ask anybody to share with them, and we had a baby, so it was unreasonable to ask anyone to share with us. After 4 hours of heated negotiations with the reception manager and tour operator rep, we were told we would have rooms in the hotel the following day. We were led to the apartments to stay for one night. There was no cot available, so we had to chase this up, then one of the apartments was flooded in the bedroom and had an infestation of ants in the kitchenette area. We were NOT impressed. We slept for one night in the apartments and went back to the main hotel the next day. Although our rooms weren't ready till after 2pm, so one day of our holiday wasted. Then when we did get allocated rooms in the hotel, two of the rooms overlooked the noisy waterfall at the back, one room was on the front but looked out onto red tiles on the roof of the dining room and the room allocated to us with the baby was on the side of the hotel directly above where all the deliveries were made including the fuel tanker that frequented the hotel and kitchen/brewery deliveries. Plus, the air conditioning units were directly outside, it was not ideal to say the least. We went to reception and complained again and with the help of another rep negotiated 4 sea-view rooms for Wednesday. So we then had another day of packing and unpacking. So during our 14 night stay we had three different bedrooms. As you can probanly imagine, this was completely disruptive especially with a baby. To add insult to injury, some guests who had overheard our conversations came and told us that they had booked last minute deals and been allocated excellent sea-view rooms on arrival. However, at the Tour Operator welcome meeeting there were 4 other couples who had experienced the same problem as us. The hotel had lost another couples passports, so they spent their holiday wondering how they were getting back to the UK. Apart from all these disasters, the hotel was actually nice. The food was lovely and the entertainment good. We took advantage of the beautician/health facilities and they were also good. We were very disappointed that the reception staff felt they could overbook the hotel and put peoples holidays at risk. Especially overbooking a party of 8 with an infant who had booked 12 months in advance. The lesson learnt was that booking in advance does not always guarantee you get what you want or indeed what you have paid for. If they could sort out these issues and train their reception staff, the hotel would be a much better place for it.

We have just returned from our first visit to Menorca. we stayed at the Cala Galdana hotel on a half board basis., we were greeted warmly at reception and our luggage was taken to our room. The room was clean with T.V and fridge with comfotable clean beds and a pleasant seating area with balcony overlooking the bay. we did request a sea view and was glad we did as at the rear of the hotel there is a cascading waterfall which guest found to be quite noisey.The hotel is set opposite what I can only describe as the most beautiful beach I have ever seen, soft white sand surrounded by pine and olive trees. It is coming to the end of the season so was not very busy, but you could hear a pin drop. The local's were friendly as were all the hotel staff. The entertainment was not brilliant but was however entertaining, always a good turnout. The food was superb, a good choice with something to suit all diets, it was all of good quality. We visited the towns and surrounding areas by local bus very cheaply although it is inexpensive to hire a car. If you are visiting other areas remember siesta time as everything grinds to a halt at around 1pm until 5pm. Cala Galdana is a very layback resort and not for those seeking burning the candle at both ends. Our return flight meant that we had a 9hr wait after vacating our room at 12, the hotel offer shower facilities including a towel for you to freshen up before you leave free of charge, they also secure your luggage. It was the most relaxing and enjoyable holiday we have ever had. We will certainly be returning agin next year.

Loved Menorca, wonderfull blue turquoise sea, nice sand etc. Cala Galdanis is a very pretty place but the beach gets packed. Lots of holiday makers catch the local buses to get to this beach so it is always busy. The hotel Galdanis hotel and villas (can't remember the spelling) was a nice hotel. The rooms were very clean and the staff polite. The food was a huge buffet and perfectly adequate, in fact we did not bother to eat out as it was very nice. The bar prices were over the top expensive, but we purchased drink from the local shops at a fraction of the price and kept it in the fridge in the room. The resort is small and not that many restaurants and bars but the food we could see being eaten certainly looked nice. We did the walks to the beaches either side, Macarella and mitjana. Macarella is quite a long walk over very bumpy terraine. Mitjana is easier to get to. Both nice but still packed. The sea was even bluer at Mitjana! Overall liked the place but wish the beach was bigger so that you could get out of the way.

I stayed here in 2005 it seemed expensive but we found it very good, unlike other reviews we found the food hot,varied and tasty and the staff were very good. The entertainment was not as good as in arenal last year but not bad. The resort is probably the best in Menorca. We stayed last week(sept 06) it was hot and better than in june 06, however a 3 bedded room is quite roomy but the beds too small. We will be going to Gran Canaria in April but a week in Cala Galdana in June 2007(definately)

Have just read the comments posted by the gentleman from Barcelona, (posted August 2006). They don't seem to match the hotel I remember from 2003. Then I looked at the accompanying photographs. The photos seem to be of the Flora Mar Hotel and I understood him to be commenting on the Cala Galdana hotel. I may be missing something here but having stayed in the Hotel Cala Galdana it was certainly a very reasonable four star hotel. We had a marvellous holiday there. The only small comment I would make is that the balconies are the smallest I have experienced anywhere. I felt quite uneasy when enjoying what was a great view from our room.
