More Traveller Reviews of Marinas De Nerja Aparthotel
Do not be fooled by pictures.

My wife, my three daughters aged 11, 14 and 17 stayed at Marina De Nerja in the Summer of 2007. From pictures that were on some of the reviews we were excited and had high expectations. First negative thing that happened to us is that we arrived a one in the afternoon and were told we could not check in until three o'clock, so we took or rented car and discovered Nerja. When we came back we had to wait longer and finally we got the card for our room. Disappoint as we entered the room. The apartment was very small. Usually when we book a 2-bedroom apartment we get a double bed, two singles and a sofa bed. There was a cramped room with a double bed, a minature room with a single bed and a small living/dining area with a double sofa bed. As if that was not bad enough we had damp in our room. During our stay we encountered bad entertained with two people singing everynight, cats trying to sneak into our groundfloor apartment, the kids club not letting my daughter join in because she wasn't Spanish and not being allowed to have floats in the pool! The positive part of our stay was that the staff were friendly, Nerja is a beautiful town and the local market which had lots of the food we eat at home. The hotel is good but be warned if you are booking a two-bedroom apartment you have to know what your getting yourself in for.
Wonderful!

We just booked our flights and hire car on the internet...... We arrived quite early in Malaga and drove up to Nerja. We stopped at the hotel to ask if there were any rooms, the staff are very friendly. We were offered a really good deal for All inclusive or B & B. We had a 2 bedroomed apartment, overlooking the sea on one side and a view into Nerja from the bedroom window. The whole week with all inclusive for 716 Euros......Very good value for money, in our opinion. The dining room is spacious and the lunches are on offer from 1 until 3, then you can take coffee or tea out on the terrace or in the bar if the weather is not so good, the food is excellent. There is some entertainment on offer most nights in the bar, including Flamenco Show on the Saturday night we were there. the bus stops right outside for anyone who does not have a car, and it is only a 10 minute walk to the town along the beach in any case..... We will definitely stay here again..........
Not That Great!

I have returned today from a 2 week holiday at this complex (28th Aug). Our party consisted of 4 Adults and 3 Children aged 3,5,6 years. We booked two 2 bedroom apartments through Medhotels.com. Having read the reviews posted on this website we anticipated a fantastic resort with many excellent features, particularly for the children. Unfortunately we were sorely disappointed. The resort is a medium sized complex spread over 6 floors. Our apartment was situated on floor 0 and my brothers on floor 3. I will only make direct reference to our apartment at ground level as I cannot comment on my brothers. Our apartment was situated right next to the pool, literally within 10 yards of the water. The apartment could be described at best as "dated", "tired" and somewhat "smelly". It was functional and served a purpose, but by no stretch of the imagination was this a 4* property as advertised. We were greeted by a rather poor quality sofa with torn covers, broken cutlery, damp patches on the bathroom ceiling which we believe is where the smell was coming from, and the patio doors were less than secure. The advantages of the room was that being that close to the pool it meant we could use it to dive in and out of during the day to refresh drinks. The complex itself has some serious failings as a "family" resort, the most serious being the advertised Kids Club. This consisted of a hut, a play area and a non english speaking member of staff, yep, one member of staff. No booking in proceedure and what was worse was that when we put two of our children in, they were left with the girl who said they were going to the beach to make sandcastles....My wife returned 15 minutes later to discover that our sons were not there, upon asking the girl where they were, she shrugged her shoulders and said "which boys"!! In the present climate this was totally unacceaptable to us. From this point it was apparant that the kids club would have to be out of bounds for our children. You should also be aware that you are not allowed any items in the pool other that inflatable arm bands....Nothing, if you do you will immediatly told to take them out...Disappointing attitude from staff all round I would say. The entertainment is awful, that is the only word I can use.... It does not start til 10pm and one of the shows was very adult not partiularly suitable of children. I cannot say anything good about the entertainment at all. Please also be aware that if you have one of the lower apartments, you will not be able to get any sleep prior to 11.30pm due to the "entertainment" taking place around the pool. Children do not get early nights in this resort. It is very loud and no consideration is given to small children or babies. I would say the walk is more 25/30 minutes into town with a further 15 to the actualy tow square, best bet is taxi for 6 euros. The town is nice, loads of bars and restaurants and the mandatory tourist tat shops. Watch out the english are coming with the egg and chip bars!!! Please don't misunderstand me, the complex is ok, you get what you pay for I guess, It is not expensive and that needs to be taken into account. We enjoyed ourselves as we made our own entertainment and let the kids enjoy themselves. Would I return.....Nah, just not my type of place. The staff would need to be more friendly and the resort completely refurbished. Oh, food....OK....Gets dull after a while as very repetative!

Fantastic Hotel and resort
from Michelle2
This hotel is superb and I would definitely recommend it as the place to stay in Nerja. We had a spacious 2 bedroom apartment overlooking the pool and the sea. The room was spotlessly cleaned with fresh towels every day. Huge pool. The hotel staff are very helpful. We were half board and had breakfast every day and the evening meal on a couple of occasions, the food is very nice and there is a wide variety to choose from. There are activities during the day and evening to keep any children and even some adults entertained! Nerja centre itself is only 15/20mins walk via the beach or 5mins (6 euros) by taxi. If you have a hire car, there is a big car park in the centre of town free of charge. There are lots and lots of bars and restaurants to choose from, catering for all tastes, you can't go wrong with any of them. What I particular like about Nerja is that although there is alot to do in the centre it is still very spanish and not over commercialised or spoilt. Nearby Frigliana (15mins drive) is a must visit for a lovely little town with fantastic scenery and restaurants.
very nice hotel

Just returned from a week at the Marinas De nerja, overall this is a really good hotel very nice room we booked with Travel Republic and although we only booked a Studio Apartment were given a two bedroom apartment on the ground floor overlooking the pool ,having a fridge etc was very useful for cold drinks and lunches. We were half board and were quite happy with the food never had a bad meal all week. There are quite alot of people staying with Saga at the hotel but also families with young children didn't see many older children or teenagers but I suppose it could change in the summer holidays. There was'nt much entertainment Bingo and something for the small children. Its only about a 15 to 20 minute walk into Nerja where there is more going on. We hired a car as it worked out cheaper than taxi transfer from the airport and were able to see a little bit of the area. Visited Frigiliana which is a very pretty village in the mountains and also Lake Vinuela which was a lovely drive. Thought Nerja was a lovely place to wander round not high rise or really crowded All in all think this is a very nice part of Spain and will definately be returning.
Had a wonderful time!

My husband and I stayed at this lovely place for a week at the end of March/early April 2007. Had a room on the second floor, overlooking the tennis courts/mountains/and could just glimpse the ocean. We were pleasantly surprised at both the size and the cleanliness and the furnishings. Really very nice! We went for self-catering, which was a good option, because we didn't want to spend too much time hanging around the hotel and the food (we had dinner there just once) was a bit average. would not recommend all inclusive. Generally, the place is full of older people and families. The bar and entertainment cater mostly to this crowd. There was bingo every night!! This was nice for us because people were quiet :) There were a lot of Spanish families staying as well, which is a good sign! The walk down to town is very nice along the beach, or you can take the bus (10 minutes to town). We definitely recommend going to Malaga by bus as well to see the Picasso Museum and eating at El Pimpi! Bus leaves outside hotel and takes 1.5 hours or so. Special thanks to the very helpful receptionist David who gave us some great tips on what to do! Only minus point is that the walls are a bit thin and you will hear some noise from outsiders. Also, it is a 65 euro journey from the Airport.
great for kids

Stayed at Marinas Aparthotel for 12 days on HB basis.Rooms were good quality with small kitchenette 1 bedroom with sofa bed in living area really only suitabe for young kids.Pool area excellent with ample beds & grass area overlooking the beach which provided a nice breeze The beginning of July was quieter but the demand for beds increased as the days went by with the usual early morning dashes for the cushions. Breakfast was really good but evening meal got a bit boring after a few days.(I like spicy foods) We only discovered that we could opt for lunch as opposed to evening meal at the end of holiday.Location of hotel is quite a distance from the town & takes a good 20/25 mins along the beach. The kids loved the hotel & didn't want to leave it plenty of organised events during the day for all age groups. A great mixture of nationalities which is lovely to see. Nerja town is lovely for evenings & worth forgoing a few meals in the hotel for the good quality restaurants Enjoy
Great for Christmas break

Second stay in two years for week before Christmas. Much busier this time as Saga seem to be taking up a lot of the rooms. We took our 9 month old and returned to Marinas de Nerja because we could cater for her in the apartment kitchen and have a fairly comfortable living area in the evenings whilst she was asleep. Fortunately we took a small DVD player to catch up on some films as the only English channels available on the TV were cartoons, Sky news and an American Christian horror channel! The restaurant was good value - we booked self catering but no-one checked when we went down for breakfast (which we would have been happy to pay for) as they were so busy with the Sagas. A great selection of fruit, cheeses, ham, pate and cereals and yoghurt as well as the obligatory Full English (frankfurter sausages). Dinner was also good value - buffet style with a selection of salads and soup to start and various hot meals ranging from a stew, chicken, grilled fish, pasta and choice of two sauces, lasagne etc. Also lots of choice of vegetables, potatoes and rice. All cooked very well and tasty. You could have a bit of everything and as much as you like! There was also a good selection of desserts and ice cream. The staff were very helpful and friendly - especially the cleaning staff and restaurant staff. Can't say the same for reception who were most unhelpful as our room was at the back of the hotel where road noise and a dog barking all night did spoil the stay somewhat. I would recommend booking a room with a pool view if you can. We were looking for a repeat of the quiet stay we had two years ago when the hotel was practically empty - the entertainment left a lot to be desired then too but we didn't sample it this time. There was some noise in the evening from the next room - the walls were very thin and high heels clattering on marble tiles combined with loud singing interrupt the saddos trying to catch up on a year's sleep! I can recommend the spa from the las visit - the half day is enjoyable. The only downside really that I can think of is that the pool is not heated in the Winter. We were lucky that the weather was good - a couple of days good enough to be in a vest - some were actually swimming in the sea. Will hopefully be returning next year for two weeks over Xmas and bringing more of the family.
Nice Hotel
from Shello
We stayed at this hotel over Christmas, well Christmas Eve for 4 days. The hotel itself is very nice, it is located on the beachfront and is a very nice walk into the town of Nerja, takes you about 15 to 20 minutes to walk into the town, which itsself is very nice. The hotel is very clean and the staff are all very helpful and pleasent, the only downside we found was that it was full of older people, when we arrived a coach load of Saga people had arrived and we kinda wondered what type of hotel we had booked into, I guess it is probley better than booking into a club 18-30 hotel. The only downside I can say about this was that all the entertainment was aimed for this age group .... now I have no feelings either way about listening to Frank Sinatara, but every night.... please? And bingo at 9.30pm on the dot.... Please give this a miss.... we are not youngsters ourselves, but with the hotel being a 4 star hotel, we would have liked to have seen a little more modern music being played and definately a few younger people around. But don't let this put you off the hotel itself, we went on bed and breakfast and the breakfast was very good, with a choice of full english to cereals to fruit, we did consider doing an evening meal one night, had a look and the menu looked a little sparse so we went into Nerja and found a great little Greek restaurant called "Poisedon Taverna" - great food. Our room was a studio and was cleaned immaculately every day, it was a pleasure to come back to, the communial areas of the hotel were all fabulous and well maintained, they also have a little shop on site where you can get those little items you may have forgotton. All in all I would certainly recommend this hotel, for the friendliness of the staff, the cleanliness of the rooms and the great breakfast, and amazing views of the sea and mountains in the distance. I would recommend car hire also, even though the buses are frequent as you are on a main road, so you can get out and about and see Granada - well worth the visit, also to go up to the mountain villages and tour along the coast. The weather in December was good, during the day it was warm enough to wear either long or short sleeved t shirts, but I would advise on a jacket for the evening as it gets quite cool in the evening once the sun has set, also remember a brolly as you also get an odd day off rain. We did not try the spa, but they had a good deal of 16 euros for half a day of sauna, gym etc which sounded fun, but we did not have enough time to fit it all in with only being there for 4 days. By the way the beds are very comfy and very spacious, in fact ours were 2 singles which meant for 4 decent nights of sleep that were put together to form a huge double bed.

We had a wonderful holiday at this hotel. The apartment was just right for our needs it was spacious and clean and very bright and airy. The staff were always very kind and helpful. The buffet was very nice and if you have pickey children then this is the ideal way to dine... more
