The good points. Friendly helpful staff. Clean.
Fairly good, pools.
The not so good points.
This hotel is supposed to be 4 stars. It may have been 20 years ago but it is way past its sell by date now. It should have had a refit at least 5 years ago. The room was worn and tatty.
The bed was the worst I have ever slept in and our balcony faced the very busy main road that was extremely noisy. The sea view it used to have has been eroded away by the newer hotels in front.
The four cranes opposite where not pretty either.
I would give it at most 2 stars. Avoid it unless you are paying very little and can get a room overlooking the pool.

We have recently returned from a very enjoyable fortnight's holiday staying at the Alto Lido Hotel.The Island of Madeira is beautiful and the weather was perfect.The hotel is in a good position with many walks and bars in the area.The courtesy bus to Funchal provided by the hotel was an added bonus. Reception staff at the hotel were very courteous especially Laura who went out of her way to help me with a transport problem.Also housekeeping was excellent with house maids in cleaning every day.We intend to return again to the Alto Lido.
