" We traveled to Madeira with our son... "
Submitted By: Mrs D Hendle
We traveled to Madeira with our son who was 9 months old at the time. We were aware that Madeira would be quiet with very little nightlife but this suited us with a baby as we don't have a social life any more!
After an uneventful flight we landed at Funchal and were transferred to our hotel which was classed as 4 star. It certainly didn't disappoint. Our room had a separate bedroom with a cot (as requested). The lounge had a separate kitchenette with hob, oven and grill, kettle and enough pans and cutlery to keep you going. We had a fantastic balcony overlooking the pool and the terrace of the dining room.
Our "resort" wasn't really a resort as there simply isn't anything there other than the hotel we stayed in. However there was a courtesy bus every day that took you into Funchal. The journey took around 40 minutes and was hair raising to say the least as Madeira has twisty windy roads with sheer drops at times. The view though, as your approach the harbour from the hillside roads is breathtaking.
We loved Madeira, it was very child friendly, the food was fabulous and the scenery just wonderful. Not the place for those looking for bustling nightlife and "English breakfast" but if you like a bit of class, you'll love Madeira.

I rented a car, though many took the tours organised by the hotel.
I highly recommend this place, if you are looking for a relaxing holiday.
