The hotel is not a 4 star. We stayed in the hotel as opposed to the bungalows. the room was very dated and probably hasn't changed much from the 1970's. The air-con didn't work. Listening to other guests, I believe the bungalow would have been a better option. Breakfast is... more

We went three years running to White Rocks, Lassi, Kefalonia and stayed in a bungalow each time. The first year we went was a bit of a shock after being used to hotels in Majorca but we had been prepared to find hotels in Greece a lot different. Our bunglow resembled being... more

We arrived around 9.00pm and were shown to a " bungalow." It was like a small concrete bunker with 2 mattresses on concrete bases. Forst thing in the morning we asked to be moved into the main building. The accomodation was a bit better there but not the 4 star we were led... more

Just had a week at White Rocks and we had a lovely holiday. We stayed in the hotel and our room served our basic needs ie: clean, air con, bath/shower, mini bar, TV and with a sea view, however I did notice that guests who had a room on the roadside were asking to be... more

Stepping into to our bungalow, which should have been described as a "concrete bunker" was one of great disappointment, we were met with concrete beds, furnishings that dated back to the 70's, the lights the sort you would have put on a shed and the air conditioning was... more

Think twice
My Husband and I stayed at the White Rocks after much researching as it was his 60th Birthday and a complete surprise to him. The Bungalow was dissapointing, the food dull. In fact although half board we ate out 5 nights out of 7.The Bar area is well, a waste of time, no service, no music and no atmosphere. To find these things you have to either walk or get a taxi into Lassi or Argostoli. Kefalonia is Wonderful and we are returning July 2006 but not to White Rocks.
discusting
We have been holidaying in Kefalonia for some six years and have stayed at two brilliant hotels in the resort of Lassi. The island and various beach resorts are lovely. We know the white rocks hotel after visiting and seeing the cats which seem to be part of the hotel. This year we decided to book this hotel. What a mistake. Staff was abrupt but in all honesty staff in the restaurant were rushed off their feet. People could not choose where to sit but were placed at a table and told rather abruptly to stay put all week, even sharing a table with strangers. Food was very poor. The main hotel is dark and outdated, however the bungalows have modern furnishings and the views are lovely. BUT BEWARE, we were burgaled along with six other bungalows. Together we all lost cameras, cash, credit cards. No evidence of forced entry but by key access. Thompsons not happy with people knowing about this and have repeatedly denied any crime being committed. Only with pressure have we received a police and reps report that this took place (some seven weeks later). To the lady who was discussed at the way the cats and kittens were disposed off please e mail me and will give info of animal rescue charity on the island operated by retired english couple. Kefalonia is a beautiful and endearing island. Will not be put off visiting but will give the white rocks hotel a very definite miss. cunliffe.a@merseymail.com
A beautiful location
We stayed in a White Rocks bungalow overlooking the sea. The setting was marvellous. Bungalow, pool and hotel were spotlessly clean. The service was superb. The food was a little disappointing. It was very nice but there was little choice. Breakfast was good with a buffet and the usual bacon, eggs, mushrooms etc, also cheese and cold meat, fruit, cereals, greek yoghurt and honey and also numerous pastries. The evening meal had 4 courses but only had 2 choices. We felt this was the area that let the 4star status down.
Unimpressed
Lovely grounds. Fantastic beach and pool. Poor food. Shabby rooms. Lassi was rather dirty with lots of litter on the paths. I really didn't like the cruel way that the hotel disposed of the cats and kittens when we were there.
This should not be rated as 4 start hotel.
Beautiful location and beaches. The hotel itself ,however, was very dissappointing. It is badly in need of a major refurbish to bring it up to modern 4 start hotel standards. The rooms are dark and tired with dated and worn furniture and fittings. The food is best described as uninspiring, boring, english and of a fixed menu each day i.e. it is not buffet style as in modern hotels. Dinner each day starts with soup or cheap 'powder' orange juice and finishes with ice cream or cake. The main course is generally a roast of some sort - chicken, pork turkey etc. We were hoping for some lovely Greek fish etc. but not to be. Breakfast is a buffet but every day identical. By example the friut every day was melon, kiwi and tinned peaches. The same every day for the 2 weeks we were on holiday, talk aboy boring on an island that has all sorts of lovely fresh fruit. The fried eggs also provide a good example, they wouod rate about one star with me. They swam in greese and were always compleletly hard. The hotel seems popular with older people who have been back year after year and have grown old with the hotel. I suspect they have never been in a modern 4 star hotel and so do not realise that what they are getting is not up to modern standards. We suspect they also may like all the simple boring, English food but its not for us. The hotel does have good potential due to its excellent location. So come on someone spend a few million on it and turn it into a proper 4 start hotel for the new century.
Disapointment what a shame
Went to White Rocks after recomendation expected to have a nice week away in what is sold as a top hotel,in the area.Had read reports on the web about this place so expected to be presented with a very high standard of decor, sadly no found the reception what I would have found in a two star hotel. When entering my room it was so dark in the middle of the day you needed the lights on due to trees blocking the light, did however manage to get a room change, the staff very helpful and found another room quickly, this was at the front of the hotel level with the road which was not that far away and was very busy. The rooms are very dated as was the bathroom, dark wood units and doors very basic. The meals were no where near 4 star, the breakfast always the same and fried eggs totally solid I suppose the breakfast was the better of the meals as there was a lot of things to choose but always the same over cooked, service was good but the evening meals were a joke some uneatable very poor standard and certianly no evening meal which you would hope for in a so called 4 star hotel. The beach and sea fantastic locals very friendly, would I go back No this hotel needs a major refit or reassesing in its ratings.Lovely Island
Fantastic
it was fantastic, my mom and i relly enjoyed ourselves. The views were spectacular, the staff were all very friendly and would sort out any problems such as a broken shower quickly and effectivly. They would even sort you out a taxi without any problems. The food was very nice and anyone complaigning about not being allowed to sit where they wanted well in most restuarants and hotels you are alloctated a seat. The food was very nice although it did follow a similar pattern, and was not really greek. I would recomend it and i think we are planning to return we liked it so much.
Wonderful family holiday
Just come back from a lovely weeks holiday in Kefalonia. At the Hotel White Rocks we stayed in 2 seperate bungalows which shared a small garden that was really nice to sit in in the evening. The hotel grounds are full of plants and flowers unusual for us having stayed at places in Kos and Zante which can seem quite dry and baron- Kefalonia on the whole is green compared to other greek islands. The rooms are basic but more than adequate and very clean- the maids at the hotel are wonderful. The hotel has a relatively small pool for its size but we were down on the beach most of the time. The hotel's private beach is also quite small and quite stony once you get into the sea but it is pretty and very good for snorkelling. On the other side of the hotel is a larger sandier beach which is accessible to the public. As for the food, it is good quality although perhaps we would prefer a buffet but the 4 course meals were good. We made friends with a waitress called Sofia whom we shall never forget. All the staff there are friendly and very hardworking. As for exploring Kefalonia definetely rent a car it is the only way to take in the island's picturesque landscape. We were a little disappointed with the island's larger towns Argostoli and Lixouri. Argostoli has quite a few shops but there isnt a very friendly atmosphere whereas Lixouri has even fewer shops and is a bit scruffy. I would reccomend going to plces such as Agia Efimia where we rented a boat finding small beaches inaccessible other than by boat. Also we found Sami a really friendly welcoming place where it is lovely to have lunch in a taverna by the harbour. On your way to Sami stop off at the Drogarati Cave which drops to a glorious 18 degrees and is very striking. I would reccomend both Kefalonia and Hotel White Rocks for a calm relaxing holiday.
Excellent and Highly recommended
Stayed here for a week of relaxation and unwinding. We were overwhelmed by the setting, facilities and best of all the staff. The unbelievably large hotel complex is immaculately maintained and the gardens are beautiful. The pool is good and clean as is the private beach. Even when full there is always space to be found. The staff of the hotel is the most accommodating and professional I have ever come across. Most have been working at the hotel for years and are very keen for you to come back. No request is considered unreasonable. And it’s all done with such friendliness. The rooms are basic and comfortable, and spotless, and the views from the bungalows very good. The chamber maid, in keeping with the hotel philosophy, made sure everything in our room was as we wanted and spoke to us every day. The dining room staff was also very accommodating. You are assigned to a table, which contrary to the previous review is a good thing, because you get the same staff every day. If you don’t like what’s on the menu they will cook more or less anything you like. And after a couple of days they work out what you like and suggest stuff that’s not on the menu. One day they made speculatively made something for me based on what they thought I would like. Unbelievable. The head waiter also ensures everyone is happy and can move you to another table if you are unhappy. All in all this is definitely one of the best hotels I have stayed in. One or two things to watch out for: 1)‘Twin bedded rooms’ - really is that. The beds are at opposite ends of the room. Book a double if that’s what you want. If there are none left when booking ask. In our case there was a spare double so no problem. 2)While the hotel is on a ‘main road’ it’s a Kefalonian main road i.e. a single carriageway 2 lane one. There is a bit of noise every now and then and you have to be careful when you go to the car park but it really isn’t a big deal. 3)The hotel is on the airport flight path but the maximum number of flights I noticed in a day was four. Go there, you’ll love it. We intend to return…
Bewarned
A Secluded hotel just a short ride from the airport,on arrival you have to cross a busy road to reach hotel. The actual hotel looks very dated and the corridors are very dark and gloomy, the rooms are good but they could do with a brightening up. The food left a lot to be desired only 2 main choices so choice was limited and if nothing took your fancy it was a walk to oscars for food, also dont think about sitting where you liked as they operated a table allocation system. If you are over60 and looking for a quiet holiday then this is the place for you,but if your looking for something a bit livelier then perhaps you should try another hotel
