Firstly we had a brilliant 2 weeks holiday. After reading many reviews I was a bit worried before flying out. The food was good - People complain about the salad bar, but we loved it as we love eating different food when going abroad. There was always a choice of meat... more

Not for the British
Have just returned from a week in the Sol Morramar, Lanzarote. Apartment was fantastic, very spacious and clean with a great seaview included in our all inclusive package. The only downside was the standard of the food which was particularly poor for a Sol owned hotel. Very little choice to cater for the British palate but very suited towards the Spanish guests.
Sol Morromar
The hotel is very clean and very tidy the pools are great. not much in the gym to do but hey who gos on holiday for a work out. outdoor jacuzzi is cold but once your in its ok. we went all inclusive the food was great there was a wide variety and there was always something i would like. only down side was the lack of facilities i.e in the evening the upstairs was closed so no table tennis and the shows didnt statrt till late and didnt last long. other than this i would reccomend you stay here shrt walk to matagorda and £3 in a taxi to puerto de carmen so prety central also its a stone throw away from the airport which only cost £4 in a taxi. bargain so dont get transfer from the operator as taxi is much cheaper and taxi lined up outside airport.
Mixed Feelings
Just returned from a short break at Sol Morromar & will try & give a fair review. Apartments I feel are nice & clean. Small bedroom is made up for by a spacious living area & nice sized terrace. Only 2 of us staying, obviously if there were the max 4 it would be a slightly different story. Bedroom had 2 somewhat narrow single beds, bedside cabinet & a large wardrobe-ample for our needs. Living area comprised a small kitchen/diner area, a sofa, comfy chair, coffee table & tv. Some storage space also. Bathroom adequate with bath & shower however hot water tank quite small so if you have a bath next one may need to wait a while. Terrace has seating built into wall, 2 plastic chairs & a table. No air con but somehow room remained cool, no hairdryers. Complex offers S/C or A/I option. We went A/I but cannot recommend the food. Good variety but often luke warm/cold. If you go self catering there are plenty of supermarkets around. Cooking could prove tricky tho, only 2 rings, no oven. A toaster & kettle supplied. Guests mostly Spanish and entertainment seemed geared to this, staff also seemed slightly more responsive to Spanish guests. Some noise from planes but peaceful place apart from this, in fact very little goes on so good place to chill if you don't mind occasional plane noise. No fight for sunbeds as it was not full when we visited. Checkout is 12 noon and you have to pay extra for AI option to continue beyond this time-not had this elsewhere. Do not go here if you like a lot of activity, nightlife etc as there is not a lot happening & surrounding resort is not a busy one, although it says Puerta Del Carmen, in fact it is the smaller area of Matagorda. If I went again I think I would go S/C despite the limited cooking facilities and utensils (no fry pan!!) because food was a concern. Not a lot for kids to do. Would not stay here for more than a week if I did a return visit. DO not pay a lot for transfer from airport as it is minutes away by taxi, approx 6 euros.
great for a relaxing holiday with kids
iI stayed in this hotel in august and found it great for children it was very safe and a pure pleasure. The pool was fantastic so refreshing and so clean. The apartment was very clean we had a fantastic cleaning lady the whole experience was great the staff were great and friendly for a family this is a great resort for couples i would not recommened it as for going into the main resort of puerto del carmen its only a taxi ride away and will cost around 7 euro not including tip, but if you are looking for a safe relaxing holiday with children this is a definate go!
Not what it says in the brochure!
This hotel is not in Puerto Del Carmon like it says in holiday brochures, you have to get a cab in or walk for about 45 mins to get to the main resort so dont be fooled by what you read or get told!. We found the hotel to be clean and our room was cleaned daily and accomodated us fine, the pool is absolutely freezing so you can only go in when it is really hot (which it wasnt!). I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who enjoys a lively holiday and it is not worth the price you pay with a tour operator, if you have young kids or like to be far from the main resort with all the shops, restaurants and bars then this will suit you fine!
DONT DO IT!!
Well where to start with this apartment,,,....it has to be the worst week away you can have... The all inclusive deal was appauling...the food looked and tasted like pig slop, the alcohol was disgusting (if there was ever a barman/maid around at either bar to serve you) and the cleanliness of both pools put you off taking a dip. There was cat and bird poo all around the smaller pool and it was very dirty. The other pool by the bar wasnt much better either. For example spilt drinks and mess /rubbish was left for days. Everyone we spoke to was ill from the food served. There was no entertainment...not even music in the bar, the 'entertainment' provided was spanish backstreet boy types and some mediocre dances performed by ladies in thong costumes etc. You'll get my drift!" As for the staff...my god...if u wanted a smile or good service you were in the wrong place, the bar was never staffed and the restaurant was poorly staffed. The drinks were also served in paper cups like what you would get from mcdonalds!! The only plus point for these apartments were the rooms seemed fairly clean (except the back hairs on the floor) which we presumed was from the cleaning ladies. Falsely advertised the location was Matagorda...not Puerto del carmen... All in all the place is a state, i cannot believe this place is open for business...Dont do it! Highly recommend the scuba diving as this saved our holiday from being a total disaster...
Nice and peaceful
Me and a friend stayed at sol morromar for a week in March 2007. Nice place with nice rooms. Very clean, good views from our balcony, tv only had one english speaking channel. (CNN)! Short walk to few shops, bars and places to eat. Didnt stay in sol morromar in the evening for entertainment or food so cant comment there. Ideal for people looking for peace and quiet with a lot of nightlife down the road in a taxi. (taxi rank just outside).
mmmm
Visited sol morromar in nov 2006. We were actually meant to be staying at 4 star pocillos playe but a company called medinland (stay well away from this holiday shambles company)called us the night before our trip to inform us the hotel pocillos wasn't finished and if we wanted to go to lanzarote still we would recieve £50 per person back. At late notice and looking forward to our vacation we agreed. Oh dear. Maybe it was because we were looking forward to a 4 star break or maybe the hotel morromar wasn't expecting an influx of unhappy holiday makers. Service was awful. 1 Barman to serve the whole hotel. Dinner service was similair. Queues of upto 20 mins to get a drink. Most guests ate out as the food was very repetetive and on an all inclusive deal was dissapointing. My parents were with us so when the kids went to bed(through boredom there was nothing for them to do) We hit the town. About 10 mins in a cab (5 euro). Thank god for 'Route 66' and 'Tropicana' Both great places to go. Love Lanzarote, wouldn't book sol morromar unless we got it for around £150 each for the week.
Lovely little apartments
Stayed at the Sol Morromar in December 2005 with my boyfriend (we're both 23) and thought it was lovely. I work for an airline so got the flights very cheap and booked the apartments seperately for £120 for 2 for 1 week-£60 each-bargain!! The rooms were simple but clean and basic and were in 2 storeys. There were 2 swimming pools but they were freezing so didnt use much! As it was December the hotel was not full, around the pool during the day was around 4 families so nice and relaxed-plenty of sunbeds. The grounds, gardens and pool areas are tidy, clean and pretty. Weather was nice, between 20-24 degrees. There is a taxi rank outside of the Sol-around 5 euros to Del carmen where there are lots of restaurants and bars. The beach is about a 10 minute walk from hotel. We ate at the pool bar a few times and the food was very nice and reasonably priced. I would recommend the Sol to all ages and for the price we payed it was great!!
Enjoyable Holiday
We have just returned from a week at the Sol Morromar. We had quite a large room overlooking the pool, which is as we had requested. When we arrived the room had black hairs all over the floor, which was a bit disgusting, especially as we had a one year old with us!! Every time the room was cleaned the black hairs got worse as the hairs were obviously coming from the cleaners mop! Apart from that the room was great and we found the cleaners and hotel staff to be very friendly! I can't comment on the food as we never ate in the hotel. The pool areas are lovely and it is always easy to get a bed, so you don't have to be up at 7am to get one!! The noise from the aircraft was no problem! Our one year old loved seeing the planes! It takes about 10mins to walk into Matagorda, which has a lovely promenade with some lovely restaurants. It costs about 4 Euros to get a taxi into Puerto del Carmen, which you can book from reception. If you go into Puerto del Carmen, make sure you visit one of the many Lani's restaurants. Overall this is probably not the best hotel/apartments I've ever stayed in, but it was good value for money.
