Last year I took my partner and 3 daughters aged 7,4 & 6 months to the San Miguel Beach club.
We arrived early in the morning well before our room was ready. Upon mentioning to the receptionist that my children were tired and the baby needed changing, we were given keys to a complimentary room, which was kept on hand for such occassions.
Everything about this holiday was excellent, from the entertainment to the food and staff.
The hotel is in one of the best locations on the Island and offers stunning views of the bay and surrounding hillside.
We took full advantage of the complimentary canoes and set about exploring around Roman Abramovich's island which is located immediately infront of the hotel. We also took the glass bottom boat available from the beach and I can highly reccomend this as an alternative to the full day pirate boat excursion offered at the welcome meeting. The boat from the beach takes you all around the adjacent bays and believe me there is nothing more refreshing than skipping along the waves with the spray hitting you in the face as you go.
The food was excellent, with a good selection each day, they also offer an after hours toasted sandwich, which is available in the restaurant until around midnight.
Can't stress how much I love this place but to give you an idea, I have just booked for 2 weeks next year and will be taking the whole extended family.

  • Advice: Take the bus into Ibiza town, had a great conversation with some locals on the way in and loved looking around the marina and Dolt Villa

Excellent family holiday

I have just got back from a week at the beach club, I went with my partner and 10 month old son. We arrived early hours in the morning and were pleased at how nice the hotel looked and the receptionist was friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean and baby's cot was in excellent condition as this was something I was worried about. We had a view of the baby pool and beach, it was lovely. The Thompson reps were helpful at the welcome meeting although we didn't need to see them for anything after that. There were loads of sun beds available although getting somewhere to put them was sometimes a struggle, people were up early getting their spots. There was entertainment all day for both adults and kids as well as kids clubs. There was evening entertainment every night which started off with the family zone for the kids. This was very repetaive as it was the same every night but the kids loved it as they got to know all the songs and the routines. The adult entertainment was excellent, the entertainment team were hilarious. The pools were great too, a baby pool for small children and the big pool with slide, caves and water fountains. I would recommend this to any family with young children.

Very Dissapointing
3 / 10
Jun 2011, Simon, Claire & Lilly

This was my families first ever holiday and i sad to say we were very dissapointed to say the least. i went with my fiance and our daughter who was 1 week off being 3yrs old at the time. First choice assured us it was a fun filled quiet family holiday with plenty to do for both us and our daughter but they couldnt have been more wrong. i could go on forever but il try my best to sumarise it...
First of all we were delayed due to the ash cloud so we didnt arrive until 2am in the moringin. the bus pulled up dumped our cases outside the pitch black hotel which we had to manage in along with holding our 2 yr old who was fast asleep. As we went into reception we were greeted by someon who knew very little english although he was a very nice man! we were starving and thirsty and although there was no food to eat he went into the kitched and got us a couple of small cakes and bottle of water to take to our room which was a nice gestuire.
Food: very nice but very repeatative. western saloon snack bar was our favourite. main restaurant had no english labels on so it was pot luck what you were eating!
hotel and location: nice hotel but a little bit dated although our room was tidy and was cleaned on a daily basis so no complaints there. The location is what sold this holiday for us! absolultly stunning views of the clear bay right outside our room. beatiful!
hotel staff: very cheerful and pleasant, always eager to ehlp whichever way they could
entertainment: we went May 12th till May 19th and were told there was all sorts for us to do by Firstchoice. water taxi, glass bottom boat, hotel entertainment, excursions, archery, windsurfing, canoeing, watersports, and a whole host of other stuff.
To our amazment when we arrived we were told by reps that the watersports was a row boat hired out by a private party on the beach at extra cost and didnt start until the following week, no windsurfing either, canoes by the same party at extra cost the following week, archery was a makeshift ally in the hotel grounds with a board at the end of it, the glass bottomed boat was not on until the following week, neither was the water taxi so we were completley secluded with nothing to do and board out of our minds to be quite honest! theres only so many times yu can walk on and off the beach doing nothing everyday for 6 days!
There was one night the hotel put on its own entertainlemt on that was ok, the rest was thomson the dog and a kids mini disco every single night with the same routine, same songs at the same time day in day out, nothing else at all!
we booked a pirate trip excursion which was cancelled 3 times so we ended up catching a small tour train on our own which took us round surrounding towns and villages which was very nice! and also found a near by cave exploration tourist attraction which was also very good for the money. apart from that there was litteraly nothing to do but sit, eat and drink which is not our idea of a good time.
Our daughter was completely ignored by thomson reps as she had not turned 3 yet (she was 3 the following week) and she was not allowed to join in anything which was very upsetting! again, firstchoice lied and told us there would be plenty for her to do... The childrens activites were throwing a peice of wood at make shift skittles and a few other very poorly planned activites.
Our daughter spent her time in a 10ft x 10ft conservatory which had a padded floor and one big padded triangle thrown in the middle, this was suposed to be a softplay! and a small playpark out back which did keep her entertained for short spurts of time thank god!
The hotel completley shut down at 10pm. we found ourselves bored in our room every night at 10pm watching the ITV2 movies on a small portable. not really what you want to do whilst on holiday!
Pool: 1 fairly small pool on the upper level which was absolutly freezing! our daughter tried it once with me and cried her eyes out, far too cold to use. There was another kids pool on the ground floor which was alright but overrun with kids so taking a small child in was out of the question.
Lift: there was a lift taking you from the upper level to the ground level which never worked! it must have worked maybe 4 times the whole week we were there, not good with a pushchair as theres a lot of steep concrete stairs to tackle.
all in all its a great place if your aim is to dump the kids and sit and get drunk all day. there were plenty of familes who took advantage of that!
if your looking for a nice quiet family holiday with ample things to do for you and the kids, definately give this place a miss!
We are actually due to fly to Portaventura in the morning, im sure that will be a more enjoyable experience!

  • Advice: bring toys for your kids to play with. we had peppa pig figures and they saved the day on more than 1 occasion, our daughter was very bored!

I really enjoyed my 2 week holiday at san miguel... the rooms were good, food was excellent, zorro and his team were excellent keeping the clients entertaned. When they had a night off i nearly fell asleep with boredom... sorry thompson team but you need to keep up with zorro and crew.
The only bad thing is the sun beds.... to cramped and not enough space for them. I went with mad max and family and was not sure if it would be for me as it is a family holiday.... i went to caseys irish bar and played poker with zorro and crew in the sports bar,,, went to the fantasic beach.. went on the litle train round the island... taxis to portinax,,,,, fantastic...we had a forest fire while we were there.. all the fisherman and boats recuing people.. planes and helicoptors collecting water to douse it out.... luckily it did not get to san miguel...tho the smoke did. great holiday and will go again next year ....

  • Advice: great hotel and setting.

Are there any sunbeds left

What is this myth about Germans bagging sunbeds. At 7am each morning and earlier the Brits were out in numbers towels in hand getting the best spot for the coming day. At breakfast i lost count at about 200 for the number of towels laid out on sunbeds prior to the pool opening at 0900.
The hotel is clean but the pool area is horrendously overcrowded. The pool is small for the number of people staying at the beach club and hotel (imagine putting a sunbed in Leicster Square on a Saturday afternoon and expecting a bit of peace). Also, if you don't like spending all day by the pool or beach there isn't much else to do.
The evening entertainment is generally good, once the kids club entertainment has finished. Zorro the main ents host is very quick witted and a natural entertainer. This certainly makes up for the hustle and bustle poolside during the day.
Overall the holiday is ok.

What an amazing holiday, got back 5 days ago & have booked already for next year, myself my husband & 4 year old son stayed in the beach club. From the travel agents to cabin crew and reps and entertainment team,we have never experienced a Thmoson team like it they were all amazing and nothing to much trouble, this also included the hotel staff who again were amazing and fantastic with kids. A great family holiday pools, food and clubs and entertainment fantastic. Got busy the 2nd week when schools broke up but never rowdy and plenty of space, if you get up early for a sunbed, but you do that everywhere!! Great eveniing entertainment for kids and adults and plenty to do all day from giant jenga to water aerobics to pedlo's and speed boats. I would drfinatley recommend this for a fun filled family holiday.

  • Advice: Beach club right on the beach,it's in a quiet location but lots close by either use the bus or taxi.
  • Activities: Views are beautiful whatever direction you go.

just arrived home yesterday with my husband (both 40) and youngest son (13), very good holiday!! at this time of year its all winding down for end of season, so natuarly its a quieter hotel than usual, but staff were still enthusiastic!!!
all hotel staff were friendly and helpful...jose behind the bar in western saloon is encouragable (haha)...his slippery nipples and monkey brains are legendry!!! catchphrase " are YOU looking at me???" "asta la vista baby"... Christina is a sweetheart (goodluck for wedding in may) and DONT "hi 5" Tito, stings for ages!!
Thomson reps!! I didnt have anything to do with the ones looking after the kids during day coz obviously my son was too old!! but what i saw the little ones adore them!!! Clairey Fairey was a wee scottish babe, full of amazing energy (must be the haggis and whiskey) and put 100% into everything, more than JUST a job to her!!! she was friendly, helpful remembered everyones name, an all round workaholic whos nature never changed!!! i met vicky a couple of times and she was always pleasant....but the rest i found didnt acknowlegde your exsistance.
Zorro : a scream a minute, he was such a good entertainer and really knew how to get the audience going!!!hilarious with the grannys and welsh..a great all rounder
Chris AKA kiko : good laugh...kids loved him a kiko especialy when he tripped. Craig loved kicking his [--] at cards and pool (haha)
Oli : such a laid back easy-going man!! He is a person a mother would love to have as their son!! good-looking, witty, kindhearted man, and great with people of all ages..
"AVA" : where do i begin about this doll!! She is beautiful inside and out and has an amazing aura sorrounding her!! this girl is a very clever person and has not got ONE bad bone in her body!!! You would be privilegded to know her..
On this holiday we met LOADS of familys ...and we were the only "newbies" who hadnt beeen before, many go twice/three time year so to me that screams an amazing holiday for families-kids are totally safe-its soo secluded-and if their happy. your happy
would i go back???? yes deinately, but not for a few years as ive now "been there done it".....but would recommend it more for families with kids under 12
if u go....ENJOY!!

Me and my girfriend and daughter aged...

Sep 2008, Mr P Hudson

Me and my girfriend and daughter aged 1 went to this hotel wanting a holiday that would be great for our daughter and this was exactly what it was. This hotel is a FAMILY RESORT everything that goes on is for kids apart from some daily activities and some nightly entertainment. You dont want to be going here if your in your 20's with no kids, single, Lads holiday as this hotel is not for you. It takes 35 minutes from the airport and the same time to get to the big nightclubs if thats your scene. The hotel itself is super clean, the rooms are not very spacious but good we had a double bed and a single also a cot, so not to bad. there are 3 hotels which you can use the facilities of. The beach club (which we stayed in) is about 10 yards from your very own secluded beach with a fantastic view looking over Millionaires Island. this is a 9 Bedroom Villa where the rooms go for £75'000 a week. The Main Restaurant itself is fabulous, there was not one night where we had the same thing twice (apart from Breakfast) dinner and tea was superb quality. The snack bar could be better but its not the worst ever you can get Burgers, Fish Fingers, Chicken Dippers, Chips, Salad etc from there until around 6-7pm. Just outside the hotel there is a restaurant on the beach front (which you have to pay for) but the view and food is great also there is a Fish Restaurant, this is the best fish restaurant you will ever visit. Everything is fresh from the lobsters that are in a fish tank until you eat them with the muscles, crabs etc. We had a starter each and Piella for 2, drinks and it came to €70 which is great value for the taste, this restaurant is recommended. The entertainment team are so friendly they just cant do enough for you. during the day there are activities going on for all ages and there is childs evening entertainment at around 6pm where the kids take part in games and dancing etc. after that around 9pm the Adult entertainment starts, this is Hilarious with everyone getting involved on stage and in the crowd, but also there is live music on once a week which is superb. You can see just what goes on at San Miguel Beach Club on YouTube. We will definately be going again to this hotel as we totally loved it.

"Butlins San Miguel" If you like...

"Butlins San Miguel"
If you like "Butlins" this is the place for you. Kids/teenagers running wild and out of control. Drunken loud mouthed parents. Unable to sleep until early hours after parents decide to stagger back to room and finally kids under control!
Hotel and grounds run down and in much need of refurbishment / clean.
Food is average, they do try with carvery and fish nights! Chinese ok.
Not enough beds to cope around the pool side and very congested. Set your alarm clock no later than 07:00. The best option is the beach, but watch out for the jelly fish!
Plus points - in a lovely location, directly looking onto a small clean beach.
Night entertainment excellent - Zorro a credit to the hotel!
Looking at reviews - Of course parents with families want to go back year after year - they get sloshed and collect as many plastic cups as possible for a trophy and the kids run around wild like wilderbeast and are allowed to do whatever they want!!!! Security guards / hotel staff unable to control. Maybe think about going out of season?
Would I go back, NO - i'll go an african safari instead!

words can not sum up how my family feel about the san miguel beach club.
this was our first holiday as a family and i can honestly say that if every holiday we take in the future is at the beach club then we will be a happy family.
the kids entertainment is second to none .
as is the adult entertainment (zoro and the crew)
the food is very good ,always something that takes your fancy .
events and games are held allday long for kids and adults.
if i had of wrote a list of things i would want for a family holiday .
i can honestly say that the beach club would of ticked all the right boxes.
we are just about to book for next year.......we cant wait....

Feb 2008, Mr M PALMER

Once again an excellent holiday (this was our 3rd time)
Food is very good for all inclusive. Entertainment is first class from the hotel animation team, although this year the Thomsons reps left a lot to be desired, although the Thomsons kids reps were first class.
The bar staff and cleaners are unsung heroes, - they work their socks off.
There have been some negative comments posted here, but each to their own.
There is only one comment on here that I can't agree with and that is the one that states that the hotel will not get a refurb as it is open all year round.
The fact is that the hotel shuts in winter (as do most in Ibiza). So if people want to make negative comments fine. But get your facts right first.
Already booked for July 2008
