Just arrived back from San Miguel...

Oct 2007, Miss D Kershaw

Just arrived back from San Miguel Beach Club, what can I say, it was fantastic? Myself, partner and son 1 1/2 year old loved it. All staff couldn't do enough for you from reception, waitresses and entertainment.
The whole place was kept spotless. On awaking each morning you could see the pool being cleaned; all sun beds were hosed along with the tables and chairs. I took my son to the drop in centre to play to be met by the loveliest reps, they were all great with the children especially jolly Jodie.
The evening entertainment was such a laugh after the children’s mini disco the entertainment team were all well up for a laugh doing team games and cabarets.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone. All I would say is there isn't anything to do outside the hotel unless you were to take the bus or boat which we found not a problem. So if you’re going I hope you have as good a time as we did.

This hotel is great if you want to be...

Sep 2007, Mrs K Cotton

This hotel is great if you want to be treated like a sardine. Some rooms are claustophobic and combined with antiquated air conditioning you won't get much sleep. If you are unlucky enough to get a room over looking the pool you will be disturbed all night by other selfish holiday makers reserving sun loungers from 3am onwards. The pool is over crowded in peak season and there is literally only centimetres between sun bathing bodies.
There are many breached health & safety issues with no door locks to balcony doors, so it was difficult to keep children off, as the gap under the balcony wall was wide enough that a small child could fall through and we were two floors up. The safety rails on high walls around some parts of the hotel are rotten through. We have photographic evidence to back our claims.
We did complain the same day we arrived but it was a week before we were allocated larger safer rooms. We have written to Thompsons but to no avail. This hotel is supposed to be child friendly it is everything but.
On the plus side the entertainment was good, the food was ok, and the beach was a great escape from the mayhem around the pool. No I would not recommend this hotel to anyone travelling with very young children, at least not until it has had a complete refurbishment. Which is unlikely as its open all year.

If you want entertainment for kids,...

Sep 2007, Mrs C Russell

If you want entertainment for kids, relaxation and all you can eat and drink this is the holiday for you.
I went here at the beginning of May with my husband and 2 boys (7 and 4 at the time) for 1 week. All I can say is we had a fantastic time and wished we had booked for 2 weeks, as we did not want to go home.
The kids entertainment was excellent day and night. For the Adults - Zorro, Chris and Ollie had us laughing non stop all holiday.
The food was excellent You have two restaurants to choose from plus a burger bar and a mexican and chinese, which you have to book for in advance with reception (mexican situated in the Gallon).
The rooms are basic but are cleaned daily, plus you are not there to spend your days in the room.
There is a few souvenirs shops across the road, plus car hire we hired our car through the reps. For one days hire it cost us £35 might have changed now. Whatever you do try not to walk into the town unless you like walking as it took us nearly 2 hours and yes we got a taxi back.
We have just booked to go back the end of May next year for two weeks and I can't wait!

Hotel is ok, but if you like a holiday where drunken people shout, fight, jump into the pool in the nude, and argue with the Germans involving the police! And this mainly happens in the early hours, so be prepared not to sleep! This is the hotel for you.
Now the good bits. The staff are excellent, very friendly, and polite, the food is good, and we never got bored with it for the whole two weeks.
The rooms are cleaned and bedding changed daily. The entertainment is first class...it’s been a different holiday to what we wanted but we will never return unless the hotel does something about the problems.

If you like sun, sea, sand,...

Oct 2006, Miss MC Howe

If you like sun, sea, sand, relaxation, food and entertainment then this is the place to go.
Me and my other half enjoyed a relaxing week at the San Miguel Beach Club in September 2006 and would thoroughly recommend this hotel to couples and young families.
The atmosphere has a very Spanish feel and the people are very friendly. It is excellent value for money for a 3* to 2* hotel, although as previously mentioned in other reviews it could do with a refurbishment, however, the price would not be approx. £380 per person fully inclusive.
There are three Hotels you can use; The Galleon, The San Miguel Hotel and San Miguel Beach Club. All three have restaurants open for breakfast, lunch and dinner; however The Galleon has a snack bar (burgers, chip etc) called Mexican Corner which operates in the day. The San Miguel Hotel has the Tap Tap Bar which serves Tapas, however it operates funny opening hours and a Chinese Restaurant. The San Miguel Beach Club has the Western Saloon where you can get burger, hotdogs, chips etc.
The food is very good, with quite a lot of choice to eat from meat to salads, however, I felt that lunches were better than dinner. They were never skimpy on the drinks and the banter with the bar staff was great fun.
The entertainment was lots of fun and all the reports of Zorro being hysterical are all true. The daytime entertainment was fantastic you could do as little or as much as you liked, there was cohesion involved, however if you did not want to participate then it was fine.
The beach is wonderful and the sun loungers are quite cheap to hire. However, most of the action happens around the pool at the beach club.
The place is kept very clean and rooms are cleaned daily.
Top Tips:
If you stay in the Beach Club you will have to book 24hours in advance to use the Chinese and other hotel restaurants excluding Mexican Corner and Tap Tap bar
If you love to see fish, take some bread down to the sea, you will be amazed
There are no cash points, the nearest is about 2 miles away up a very steep hill with no path, so exchange Euros before hand.
There are only basic supermarket shops available, however you can get English newspapers and those most treasured souvenirs
We went on the Thomson Mixed Market Tour (Wednesday only) which took us to Es Cana Hippy Market and Santa Eulalia for shopping. It was a bit more money than going by your own transport (about 56 euros), however it was an air conditioned bus, you had plenty of time to shop, they told you about the island and making the language barrier not an issue.
This holiday is not suitable for people who want hectic shopping trips or island clubbers. However, if you want a very chilled and relaxed holiday you won’t be disappointed with San Miguel.

Jun 2006, Ms T A Ross

We have been here three years in a row, and booking for next year as well. There is a plethora of activities should you want them, the evening entertainment is second to none they have had the same entertainment team since we started going and Zorro and his team are one of our reasons for going back.
The hotel staff are welcoming and helpful and cannot be faulted either. The rooms are adequate except for the lack of clothes space in face that is my only grouch about this place. The food is always good and the maitre'd remembers guests who go more than once which is really nice.
It is a great place for kids the beach is clean and the sea calm, crystal clear and inviting. What more you could you ask for.
