We are a married couple of young at heart 50's. We stayed at this hotel last August and are due to return at the end of May. The hotel was reccommended by some friends who go about 3 times a year, sometimes for the weekend as it is so affordable. I was, like some other reviewers, wary of staying in a 2 star hotel as we normally go 4 star and usually upgrade. The standards in the hotel are excellent. The place is well run, clean, friendly, spacious and the food is well above average. We booked half board as it was so reasonable and fully intended to eat out most of the time however the choice and quality of the meals was so good we ate there most nights. On the Sunday night a huge Paella was produced which was delicious. There are plenty of sunbeds on the large grassy area behind the pool, which is pleasant, we did find the pool area a little too cosy as it is not large but were happy to sunbathe in the garden. The location is super, very near Mambo and Cafe del Mar, and within walking distance of plent of bars and restaurants, however we didn't find it noisy, also if any guests did get noisy in the night they were soon told about it. All in all this hotel is a great venue for any one wishing to book a cheap flight and hotel seperately and hire a car to visit the lovley beaches of Ibiza. The beach near the hotel is not great or very large so I wouldn't recommend the hotel for families wanting a beach holiday. Anyway I don't want too many people spoiling the peace and quiet!

Excellent Hotel Y Turner Bradford

Stayed at the Gran Sol for 7 days, excellent value. Very clean, although the furniture in the rooms looks a bit tired it is not a problem as everything else was spot on. Rooms cleaned each day and fresh towels, staff very pleasant, nothing too much trouble. The food was very good and you had plenty of choice - so you would never go hungery - something for everyone. No problem getting a sun bed. I would have preferred to probably have stayed in either San Antonio bay or the wonderful Santa Eulalia, just felt that this hotel was just a wee bit out - very quiet and the beach (not sure if you can call it that) not very nice but 10 minute walk into San Antonio and you have everything your need. Would I go back again - probably not, but only because there are other places I would like to see.......but I would definately recommend the Gran Sol Hotel.
Hotel Gran Sol. San Antonio. 5 Star Elegance at 2 Star Prices

From the moment I arrived at the Marbled Reception Area of the Hotel Gran Sol in San Antonio, Ibiza. I was greeted by Anne (The Wife of this Spanish run Establishment) with a smile and total professionalism. The Whole area looked wonderful and when I got to my room on the 5th Floor I was delighed to discover that this single traveller had a twin-bedded room with balcony from which I could see both the sea and the Tree-lined sloping hills almost masking the private villas and other hotels. The fully furnished Bathroom (Bath and Shower Unit) was tiled throughout. I had faxed a request for a Fridge and this was ready and waiting for me, there´s something nice at being able to have a pre-drink on your own balcony before going down for Dinner. Both breakfast and Dinner are buffet Style and the choices are terrific, there was everything at Dinner from cheeses, cold and hot meats and a Salad selection as good as any 4/5 Star hotel would offer. Breakfast was the same, so much choice. Around the pool the staff, some of whom I found out later had been there for years, some as many as 25Years were on hand to serve your every need with a constant smile. Having travelled the world I was a little worried about staying in a 2 Star Hotel, but as with this review I had read all about what people thought of the Hotel Gran Sol in Ibiza and I´m glad I took their word as I hope you will after reading this. A Remarkable Hotel which I look forward to visiting many times over the coming years. Should you need any further recommendation I would be happy to respond to any emails you might care to send! 5 Star Wonderland! Carl Gresham. Writer/Broadcaster BCB Radio PO Box 3. Bradford. good value, clean hotel :)

My best friend and myself have just returned home from staying at this hotel and we were really happy with the overall standard of the hotel especially considering we only paid about £150 each for a double room for 10 nights. Its very clean, great maid service, good air con in the rooms, good pool and views from balconys and brill location just a block behind Coastline and Kanya. Not very lively though,no music by the pool, probably more family orientated, lots of nationalitys staying there with a varied age group too. Also theres no chance of smuggling your mates back at night or day,the staff are very strict on security which isnt such a bad thing really. xxx
Good experience

This was a thoroughly pleasant hotel, clean, well laid out, very helpful reception staff. Due to the refurb, this surely deserves more than a 2 star rating. Upon arrival, due to my fear of lifts, the staff immediately set about getting a room on the first floor, which started the holiday off to a great start. Room change took place within one hour of arrival, you can't get this in a 4 star and the staff were more than helpful, they actually listened. Rooms were immaculate and generous in size. The only downside that happened to me and members of my party was two bar staff seemed less than friendly. We wanted to move sun loungers but they would only let us move them to the corner edge of pool, which IMO, proved more of a health & safety question than against the dining room wall/window. Their reason was that people MAY want to sit at the tables there? Siting them at the corner edge of pool restricted walking perimeter of pool. They did not ask us to replace them, they shouted from the bar area, therefore attracting attention from other guests, which made us feel like naughty children. Three times in the first day, they told off a member of our party. Apart from that, I would certainly recommend a stay.

We have just returned from a short stay at the hotel Gran Sol - San Antonio, Ibiza. What a fantastic hotel. Considering we were only expecting a 2* hotel it was far from it. It would easily have passed for a 4*. It was in a great location only 5 mins from the nearest beach and about 10mins into town and the bars. You could sunbathe by the pool or for those wanting a bit of peace and quiet you could go into the hotel gardens to relax. The rooms were very clean and the staff were really friendly - especially Vicente the bar man. We can't wait to return to Ibiza where we will once again be booking to stay at the Gran Sol hotel.
great value, well-run hotel

This hotel is a fabulous base for a long or short break in Ibiza. Even in high season it provides an oasis of calm only 2 minutes from Kanya and the other sunset bars. The furniture looks a bit old but the rooms are extremely spacious and clean with excellent recently refitted bathrooms. The ceiling fans do a great job, although I understand the hotel has fitted aircon in time for the new season. The pool area is also clean and there is a massive field with palm trees and loungers next door if the pool is too busy. There is no seaview from the pool (some rooms have a bit of a view) and it is right next to a road which can at times have some traffic on although it's no major thoroughfare, so don't worry. The grounds are so nicely maintained and the waiting staff so lovely that somehow it doesn't seem to matter anyway. There is a small beach right next door and you can also walk north along the coast to several other beautiful coves. We always hire a car: there is so much to explore on the island and it is pretty easy to park outside the hotel with a small carpark plus free on-street parking. There is a mix of people staying at this hotel: English families on package holidays seem to be in the majority but there are also European couples of all ages and groups of friends, again of all ages. In the main people just sit and chill by the pool in the daytime. I understand there is entertainment in the evening but I've never seen it to be honest as really, why stay in your hotel in Ibiza? There's SO much to see and do. The breakfast is OK, nothing more but you are paying so little that really, it doesn't matter IMHO. The is a very seventies looking cafe next door called Cafe Bohemia that does great food and as well as the sunset bar Kanya at the end of the road nearby you will also find convenience stores, Judge Jules' restaurant, a very late-opening bar plus a cashpoint. A 10 minute walk takes you into the heart of san antonio and believe me there is more to this town that the "infamous" west end. I recommend this hotel for an amazingly cheap, relaxing and comfortable base. It's really well run and as a bonus there is no need to pay extra to keep your room on your last day if your flying late as they have really good shower rooms. It's not a boutique or destination hotel and is all the better for that :-)
Great value

The Gran Sol is great value for money. The location for me was perfect, a short walk to the sun set bars & far enough away to be nice & quiet. The staff were friendly & helpfulThe rooms are a decent size & although no air con, the ceiling fan did a good job. Rooms now have TV's & soap! Also had use of decent shower room on the last day as unable to get a late check out. I will be staying here again.

Pro´s: new, very clean, friendly staff, cheap (paid 35Euros for single room June 2003), good breakfast for 2 Euro extra. Con´s: no A/c, no TV, 15 min. walk to city center (San Antonio), bus or beach (beach next to hotel is useless). Mostly older / family oriented guests, even though it does get a bit noisy at night when partiers return. Only hotel I know which didn´t supply soap in the washroom! Also get a room above 1st floor so you can have the window open at night for fresh air without worrying of intruders.
We stayed at this hotel for seven days, it was one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The rooms are cleaned every day, the food was fantastic more like you would get in a four star hotel. Every day the English owner was at the reception to help with any problems you... more
