" We stayed at this hotel for seven... "

We stayed at this hotel for seven days, it was one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The rooms are cleaned every day, the food was fantastic more like you would get in a four star hotel.

Every day the English owner was at the reception to help with any problems you have and nothing was too much trouble for her or any of her staff. The hotel is right next to all the sunset bars and straight across the road from the Golden Budda where you can have a drink at this bar to watch the sunset - great for taking photos, we have been to Ibiza six times and always stayed in san Antonio but I have got to say this was the best location where you could have lovely chill out bars and still easy reach to the night life of san Antonio.

" Having been here many many times I... "

Having been here many many times I have never been disappointed.

Great location, great atmosphere, great food, outstanding value, and service, and all made possible by the owners Pepe and Anne, Rosie on reception. Tony and the dining room staff and the always cheerful BAR staff Jose and my good friend Vicente.

Have already booked my flights for 2008. Looking forward to renewing old friendships.

" Stayed half board at the Gran Sol for... "

Stayed half board at the Gran Sol for 11 days. A truly excellent place, located on the northern part of the bay. Friendly staff, clean, sizeable, air conditioned rooms, regular clean linen and towels, even a safe was included in the price! Tariffs very reasonable. CCTV in operation throughout all corridors and public areas. Large reception area, with first class bar and catering facilities. Decent sized pool and area plus a large lawn area. Even the sun beds were provided with mattresses making them very comfortable.

An unusual feature of the hotel was that guests were so friendly, because many were repeat visitors to the place, and consequently had got to know each other very well over the years. This not only indicated the consistent level of service that the place offered, it also created a very homely atmosphere. It would be very difficult to fault any aspect of this hotel. There is a small sandy beach within 300 metres and a new walkway along the edge of the sea has just been completed, which leads all the way to the port at San Antonio. This is a leisurely stroll of 15 minutes. There are many bars and restaurants nearby for those wishing not to use the hotel's catering service. Wife and I really enjoyed our stay here and without doubt will be returning again next May/June. Value for money, I can put hand on heart and say that this is one of the better hotels that we have patronized.

" As soon as I booked this and paid for... "

As soon as I booked this and paid for it, I thought "Why have I booked a 2 star, Half Board hotel as cheap as this - it will be rubbish!" Not so. It's a lovely hotel, with lovely staff. The outside of the hotel is nothing to write home about, and the pool area is plain and simple, but the rooms are lovely and spacious, and CLEAN. In fact, they are cleaned EVERY day, and the towels are changed EVERY day. Even the corridors are clean!

We arrived by taxi (about 30euros), and checked in very fast. You have free air conditioning, which also has a heater (if you need it!), and a free ceiling fan. Even the safe is free. The only extra you pay for is the fridge, which at 3euros a day is fine. I like to keep cold water, so it's worth it for me to pay that! You can hire a full size iron and ironing board for 2euros a day. There is a launderette just up the road too - they take your clothes from you one day, and you get them back the next day - washed with fabric conditioner and folded for 10euros. There is even a hair dryer in the bathroom, which is not mentioned in the Thomson blurb. Water in the bathroom is ALWAYS hot, you have a shower over the bath, loo, basin and bidet.

The hotel has a bar, entertainment 2 or 3 times a week, and a snack bar for during the day/early evening. Our package was HB, and the first night we ate out, because I just didn't feel that the food would be up to much. We only ate out once more on an evening after we had tried the restaurant, as it was great. Not the biggest choice, but there are only 138 rooms in the hotel, so they're not going to have loads of choice. For breakfast you can have toast, full English, cheese and ham on toast, cold meats, boiled eggs, cereals, fruit, Danish pastries, Madeira cake etc, plus various juices, as well as tea, coffee, hot choc etc.

Dinner seems to consist of 3 choices of meat/fish for the main meal, then a couple of vegetables, and either roast, mashed or chipped potatoes. Starters range from full blown Paella, pizza, pastas, meats, vol au vents, olives, salads, soups and croutons, then desserts - there is ice cream - 3 different kinds of Walls desserts, an angel delight type of dessert, a "pudding", fresh fruit etc, then there is a hot dessert, which can be bananas in spices and syrup, apricots in spices and syrup, or poached pears - lovely!

You are about a 10 minute walk from Cafe del Mar, Mambo, etc, but expect to pay for a drink at these pre-superclub bars! About 15euros for a vodka and a beer - would probably cost you 7 in any other bar.

Another 5 minutes takes you into San Antonio town, where there are some fountains, and a few cafe bars/restaurants and shops. A walk up the back streets will take you to the Irish/British/Scottish pubs - expect to pay 5euros for a couple of large beers and a free shot each.

The only reason the hotel doesn't get a 10 is that the pool and façade could do with updating, but don't let my being picky put you off. It seems to be in a residential area, and there are not many bars nearby, but as we went at the end of September, maybe some of them have shut down already? Apparently, all of San An shuts down around 18 October.

There were PLENTY of sun loungers, and they are all washed down every morning, and all have mattresses on them. You can lounge by the pool, or round the corner in an area that is away from it all, set in a grassed area with Palm trees - OK if you don't have kids!

Our 4 year old loved the hotel, the staff, the entertainment and was spoilt by the lovely guests, especially Maggie, Kenny and June from Leeds who he fell in love with, and Rose and her husband (who bought him a truck), and Tony and Maureen, who bought him too many ice creams to mention, as well as teaching him to play noughts and crosses!

There is a tennis court, internet access at 1euro for 15 minutes, and the hotel are happy to book you taxis, trips, etc. We DID NOT see the Thomson Reps once, in 10 days. Normally, they stick a card under your hotel door if you don't attend the Welcome Meeting, but NOTHING from them this time. We were in reception when they were supposed to be visiting, but still did not see them. It is also up to YOU to ring THEM to find out when you are going to be picked up for your return to the airport - get a taxi for 30euros, then you don't have to listen to them whingeing on! Hee hee!

The Aquarium is a nice hour long trip and costs 4euros each for adults and 2 for kids! Bargain! Not much there, but OK for a change. Takes about 20 minutes to walk here from this hotel (more for us as my hubby had a pot on due to him breaking his foot before we came to Ibiza).

Have fun. x

" Wow, wow, wow!

We booked... "

Wow, wow, wow!

We booked this holiday last minute and it was allocation on arrival. When we arrived at the airport and were told we were staying in San Antonio we nearly fell over, as it was a family holiday. Why did we ever worry?

This is probably the best holiday we have every had! The hotel is absolutely fantastic. The rooms are immaculate, and are kept cool with huge ceiling fans.

The staff at reception are wonderful and I cannot speak highly enough of the bar staff - especially Vincente and Jose - they truly made our holiday. The pool area is beautiful and even has waiter service. There is an excellent terrace by the pool side bar to escape the sun as it gets very hot here. It is a 1 minute walk from the hotel door to the nearest beach (clear water and white sand) and a 10 second walk to the beach from the pool.

If you're willing to take a 10 minute walk to go to an even better beach then you need to go to Cala Grecio. Ask Jose at the bar for directions. It's like being on a paradise island. I could not rate my stay at this hotel any better. I'm off to Florida this year, but will be back to see the gang next summer. Vincente, Una grand Cervasa por favor?

Looking forward to seeing you all again next year!

Kimberley xxx
