This was my 1st ski holiday & our stay at the Chalet Balcon was great.
The food was fantastic & I thought the location was great. I admit the ski in was a little difficult for a beginner but I managed to master it by the end of the week.
The rooms here are not very large but how much time do you really spend in them? The whirlpool bath was great when you came off the slopes, always hot water.
I would 100% go back here, loved it!

These chalets are in a good location above the main village. Ski out, and almost back in off the Plein Sud. We were in Chalet Balcons 1.
The big problem that we had was that the twin room that we were allocated was absolutely TINY. We had to live out of our bags.
When you have paid over the odds for an en-suite twin, you don't expect to have to put one of your bags in the loo. Some of the rooms appeared to be a reasonable size, but First Choice don’t make any distinction in their brochure.
If you are thinking of booking next year, ASK what size of room you will be allocated.

" Great accommodation and excellent... "

Great accommodation and excellent chalet, although it is a little removed from the rest of the resort. The chalet is part of a complex of apartments in the balcon region of Val Thorens which is convenient to joining onto one of the main ski runs to the nexus of runs. The ski in-ski out opportunity afforded by the chalet is fine if there is a lot of snow, but otherwise is a fairly treacherous icy black run and 4 foot drop to tarmac!
Val Thorens as a resort at least pretty much guarantees you of snow, but often at the cost of fairly inclement weather. The resort height is 2600M(!) and you can really tell when you are panting going up and down steps and finding it a little difficult to sleep until you acclimatise.
It can be very, very cold. It was -25c ambient temp one of the days we were there. Add to that a biting wind - and boy is it cold.
Be careful not to get caught out either lower down the valley or across in Meribel/Courcheval in the late afternoon as lifts up (or over) the valleys can close without warning or apparent reason. This will leave you stranded in the wrong resort with a very expensive taxi ride/long bus ride home. (4hrs from meribel)
Part of the 3 valleys (now opened up to 4) it gives an unrivalled area to explore and a lift system to match. The only place I’ve been to with better lifts was Sunshine Valley in Canada.
Recommended as long as you don’t mind skiing with really unmannerly Germans. I think it’s the last time I’ll go to Val T, but I would certainly pay it a visit if you’re in meribel/Courch and have a 3 valleys pass. Particularly the 4th valley for late afternoon sun.

The chalet is in a wonderful location and the views were great but as inexperienced skiers we found it impossible to ski to and from the door which meant it was a tiring walk back up the hill at the end of the day.
The chalet host prepared the most amazing food amd nothing was too much trouble for him. It was a holiday I shall never forget and would go back again and again given the chance!!!
Advice: Wonderful, lots to do, even if you don't want to ski every day
Activities: Must go up in the cable car which holds 150 people standing up!!
Good for: Ski
