lovely accomodation
from triper2007
Rooms : The rooms were completely renovated in spring 2008. Basic furniture but adequate for a summer stay, all new. No refrigerator mini-bar, to store some fruits etc. Rooms certainly spacious, 20 m2, with additional 5 m2 roofed balcony. Bathroom bit small, still functional, enclosed shower compartment, warm water abundant, water-pressure strong. Personell : extremely helpful, all trying to make the stay satisfactory, complying with requests for information, room service, sightseeing etc. (even teaching dancing on Sunday-night!) Breakfast : Hot eggs, cheese, ham, honey, marmelade, juices etc in not much variety, in good quality. Dinner is 3-course, well cooked, comprising of choices of meat or fish with an offering of Greek cuisine. Hotel : A rather small hotel in an idyllic environment, no other buildings in sight, surrounded by thick forest-trees (blocking the sight to the sea), pool very clean, stylish, in adequate size for all the guests, though most prefer to go to the near sea-beach, which is absolutely lovely, typical for Halkidiki. No noise from outside source (except birds !). Position : near the end of Kassandra penninsula, the hotel is indeed in the mid of a road linking the county road to the beach, a very demanding uphill road, though a short one. Fortunately there is the "train" (an open-air car towing trailers) which for €1,- carries vacationers up and down. The "train does not operate at night, therefore don't count it for nightly strolls. The walk up to the village takes 10 min in very slow walking. Unfortunately, the village (Kryopigi) upon the county road is very small and has not much to offer, apart from some restaurants and a few stores. For some evening-night fun you must take the local bus for the next villages on either side of Kryopigi, lying 5-10 km further away. There you can find a large variety of sea-side restaurants, bars etc. A rented car is very much advisable. In conclusion, a very nice hotel, much better in reality than in the Internet photos. Quiet and scenic with a strong inclination of the personell to accomodate. Weather in June is absolutely mild, no scorching sun as is the norm in July-August. Temperature in rooms fine in June, no need for air-conditioning, rather for a light blanket at night. The only minus might be considered the lack of nigthlife in walkable distance. The hotel states €80.- per room per day including breakfast in June, but sometimes Thomson has reductions on it.
Kassandra Bay Hotel and Kriopigi
from Sharpe26
A previous review mentions that the rooms are small, in fact they are minute, we are fairly slim people but had to walk sideways between the beds and dressing table and we couldn't both be in the shower room at the same time. Hot water only 30 minutes a day was a problem. Food good and plentiful and staff friendly and very helpful. Pool was very cold and the loungers hard plastic. Previous guests had left lilo's which were much used to make the loungers more comfortable. Although the hotel was only half full, the poolside got busy in the afternoon when the sun came from behind the trees. Hotel half way down a steep road, 15 minute walk to Kriopigi up hill and 15 minutes to a very scrappy rubbish filled beach down hill. Bit of a pain and not for anyone unfit. Best think about Kriopigi was the Sweet Coffee Shop, lovely courtyard area for lunch or dinner or just a drink in the evening. Best burger I've ever eaten and Sakis is a wonderfully welcoming host. Not much to do in this area, but if you want a leather or fur coat this is the area to shop for one. Great prices.
Lovelly
from Deanik
We stayed here in May of this year and although we were quite unlucky with the weather our stay was lovelly, the breakfast was basic but all you needed i.e no 'full english' which was fine by us, the meals at night were real home cooked Greek food and absolutly gorgeous. The family who own the hotel worked very hard morning to night and were also very lovelly, the 2 brothers we found hilarious and made the holiday and the little puppy running around was delightfull although you had to carefull she didn't get under your chairs as I found out! The hotel is situated on a rather steep bank but my husband and I like to keep in shape so welcomed the little bit of exercise each day. Think we went a bit too early in the season though so Kryopgi was rather quiet, think it would be quite a fun place in the high season. The rooms were extremely basic, 2 star I would say but we weren't expecting anthing more and found it quite a charming place. I would definatley go back but next time would like stay in ploichrono as we liked the beach town there.
Small Friendly Hotel - great views
from paulkg
We were there when the forest fires raged a few miles away and the hotel guests were evacuated by the travel company to Thessaloniki. Most then returned to the UK but we got in a taxi and went back to the hotel. Small friendly hotel run by two brothers and their wives and children. Rooms are small but there is a large pool my children loved and a long cool outside bar. The hotel is half way up a steep peninsula and has lovely views north across the Aegean Sea to the next peninsula. A 5 minute walk up the hill to the village (my six year old managed the walk so there is no excuse ) and 10 minutes down hill to the beach. There is a little bus/train that takes tourists back from the beach back up to the village and down again to the hotels. The driver dropped us off at Kassandra Bay. Food is fine but if you want more variety there are a lot of restaurants in the village. This is a prosperous area and wealthy Greeks have holiday homes here so you will find good restaurants and shops. Paul and 3 children
Be very wary

Went with Thompson Holidays 19/06/2006 to the Kassandra Bay Hotel. Kyropie. Halkadiki. Small quite family hotel with clean pool and honest staff. Down side, on a very steep hill leading to the small village of Kyrpoie, or down to the beach which has only one building A small beach cafe. Not for the unfit. In the sun you will perspire going in either direction. I would rate the Hotel as 2 star. Rooms are small and there is no air condition. If you are are unfortunate to have a room facing the afternoon or evening sun your room will feel like a furnace. I had no sleep for the whole week. Food is basic, good breakfast by small Greek Hotel standards. Dinner has not got much choice and can be stodge but filling, buy some fruit or you will need a laxative. I would not go back as this hotel as it is only fit for late deal cheapies. I paid the full price but most of the people I spoke to were on last minute deals, and from the North or Wales. Very Good advice is to pay extra and stay at the Pallini Palace or Athos Palace Hotels. I have visited both of them and they are excellent, and thats a Promise.
Small, Quiet, Clean, difficult location!

IN SHORT: Clean, nice looking but basic hotel. Lovely pool, pleasant staff, but food extremely limited (especially for vegetarians) and very small rooms. Set on a steep hill - not good for the less mobile. Quite a walk to get either up into the small village or down the the beach, but lovely scenery. This hotel is NOT a 3 * as Thomsons state, it's definately a 2* and says so on the walls. For a 2 star, it's nice - but you might be disappointed if you're expecting 3 star quality, as we were. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IN FULL: We booked a very cheap allocated on arrival deal through teletext for £144 each - so for the money, it was amazing really, but i'll give my full opinion. THE ROOM: We were shocked by how small the room was when we walked in. Had to move a table just to open the wardrobe properly!! Have to say we got used to the size as the week went on, it's definately not luxury, but ample. THE LOCATION: The hotel is situated half way down a steep hill between Kriopogi village and the beach. It was quite annoying having to hike up or down the hill to get anywhere and certainly not good for the less mobile. The village is quite small with a few bars, tavernas and shops. If you want a quiet peaceful holiday, it'd probably be perfect for you - but we found it to be a bit too quiet. The local bus service is cheap, and we went to the nearby village of Haniotti a lot - which is beatiful with a lovely beach, watersports, and lots to do. One thing you must do it go to the greek night on a saturday at 'akropolis' up the road in kriopigi. Excellent good, greek dancing, plate smashing, and lots of fun. ENTERTAINMENT: There really wasnt much of this at the hotel. Bingo one night, a bit of greek dancing now and again, and a quiz. A nice bar around the pool, fine if you just want a quiet night talking but not got you if you want something more lively. TRIPS: We took the Thomsons trip to Sithonia, but don't bother! Too much travelling and not enough time there. Theres a traval shop up in the villiage which is supposed to be good and much cheaper, so go there instead of Thomsons! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OVERALL: A nice relaxing holiday in a pretty loaction, but we probably wouldnt go back again. It was great value for what we paid - but certainly wouldnt pay the brochure price. Small, friendly, family run but basic hotel. Probably best suited to couples. Nothing to worry about if you've booked this hotel - it's clean and comfortable, but just doesnt have the X factor! However saying that - there were some people there who'd been year after year, so you might love it! Feel free to email with any questions about the hotel or the area!
lovely!

this hotel is lovely.the people are lovely the setting is lovely. people who criticise this hotel have clearly never been to greece before! if you want to stay at some faceless corporation for a holiday then kriopigi isnt for you! people dont seem to read the descriptions of places before they go! i heard other people making petty complaints whilst i was there and i was pretty appalled at their rudeness towards the staff and general inability to refrain from complaining about anything as if they had been kidnapped and forced to stay there!it was actually embarrasing to associated with them! i myself have been to greece five times and the kassandra bay is the nicest hotel ive stayed in. ive never had a shower curtain or hook in a greek hotel so that was a nice suprise this time! yeah the food was limited but even as a pretty strict vegetraian i did ok! and as we did, actually, shop around before handing our money over we found that to stay half board in kriopigi didnt cost a lot more than self catering so at that good value you cant really complain. we ate out a couple of times cos we wanted a change but big deal!!! the hotel is really small so its to be expected that they dont have 5 restaurants selling international cuisine. the soup was gorgeous! the meat dishes were authentically greek and looked really nice too. the hotel was really pretty and the room was clean and comfy. if you bother to take the TINY walk to the old town its also very pretty and very GREEK. i have been to commericialised parts of greece and kriopigi is the best ive seen, the old town and church is lovely and the locals friendly. theres a really nice looking tavern hidden up there. if there werent restaurants and tourist shops people would complain that there wasnt anywhere to eat or buy a lilo (which is a must because the sun beds are a bit hard on the beach) the activities that the hotel put on where really nice (the whole family got up to demonstrate the dancing!), the staff worked from 7 in the morning to 2am the next day and were always friendly. they also have a minimart open in high season. hotel was clean and the pool was nice. the surrounding pine forest was beautiful. the hill up to the town and down to the beach was a struggle in hot weather but i have something wrong with my legs and managed it twice a day so dont let it put you off too much. if you go to the beach, get the cute train back up to town and walk down to the hotel cos its not as bad walking down but difficult to get up with lilo in tow! the rest of halkidiki was really lovely too. the 4wd, sithonia secrets and market mania trips with thomson were brill and the rep was friendly and helpful. the only negative about the hotel was the constant whining from other guests!!! if you want to stay somewhere that looks like it could be anywhere in the world, have fish and chips for your tea and cant be bothered to explore for culture dont stay here! otherwise dont let the negativity put you off! personally i dont really care about star ratings because you get what you pay for and i was more than satisfied!
Brilliant
from redvanman1uk
Went to this hotel last month, read some dissappointing reviews of it as we found it absolutly brilliant, ok it will not suit all people but very good for the money we paid, its run by 2 brothers and there families and they can not do enough to make you feel welcome and will do anything to help you. Its on a side of a pine forest in the middle between the beach and the village, this is a very steep hill side so not suitable for the less mobile but there is a train you can catch from the beach to the village for 1 euro and they will stop at the hotel on the way up if you ask. The hotel itself is very clean but quite basic but this didnt bother us too much, breakfast is just plain continetal but everything was fresh, dinner is pretty limited too in choice but what they do serve you is very good. Our room was small as is all of them I think but cleaned every day but what else do you need a room for on holiday but to sleep in. When we were there, there was a lot of people that had been there 2 or 3 times so it cant be that bad and because its only small by the end of the week we seemed to know everyone and it was so friendly, we met some nice people out there and had one of the best holidays we have had for a long tiime now. Kriopigi is only a small village but has enough bars and taverna's to visit, there are 2 more bigger villages either side of Kriopigi and taxi's are very cheap, dont rely on the local bus service. One last thing the sunset cruise is well worth going on. All in all a very relaxing holiday and a great place to visit.
Avoid at all cost!!!

A great family running the hotel is all it has going for it! Our room was clean but we came across the following problems:- Shower being held on wall in position with folded paper plug sockets hanging out from wall (extremely dangerous) Showers were cold after 7pm as hot water was always used up by others Thomson showed the hotel as 3* but the hotel is only a 2* according to the offical rating board. The food was very poor, be prepared to eat out most nights! the restaruant was not big enough to cater for the size of the hotel. It is a poor resort for things to do! all is so commercial and no signs of real Greece. Would compare it to Blackpool for the tack!!

Not being a regular visitor to Greece we were a little apprehensive as to the standard we might expect - we should not have worried, everything was perfect and if you had any problem whatsoever Renata was there to sort it out. There are steps up to many of the rooms, there... more
