Jun 2007, Mrs S Gibbons

After reading the reviews I was a little apprehensive as to what the hotel would be like, but all four of us were pleasantly surprised and can certainly say we relaxed.
The breakfast was not at all basic compared to other European places we have stayed and can certainly say they have done their utmost to cater for everyone.
The hotel is very clean and although the rooms are a little small - who wants to stay in their room all day when there is sunshine and sights to be had?
Hanioti is for those wanting to relax and of all the places we ate I cannot say we had a bad meal, everyone within and outside the hotel were very friendly.
As for the hill that people have mentioned - for us it was not a problem it is not too steep until the end and after all the eating and drinking it is nice to burn a few calories!
We wanted a relaxing break and this is definitely what we got - we would all certainly return to this lovely hotel.

Me and my girlfriend stayed at the...

Oct 2006, Mr D Wheway

Me and my girlfriend stayed at the Hilltop just after the forest fires for 2 weeks. Firstly, the fires have not affected anything so that did not pose any problem. The Hilltop is a very good hotel. It's really well run and all the staff are very friendly.
The pool although pretty basic is good and clean and very peaceful as it's about a 10 minute walk to the centre of the town. Breakfasts were basic, and somewhat strange (i.e. chicken wraps). Rooms were clean and spacious. The hill that some people complain about was not a problem to us, although I can understand that it may pose a problem to some as it is quite steep. One of the main disappointments it that there are no decent beaches for miles.
My girlfriend is 18, and I am 20. Although we did enjoy the relaxation side of things, the square does not have that much nightlife, however if you want clubs you don't go to Halkidiki. There is a good range of restaurants and bars etc and I can imagine by going in season it would be heaving.
Tip... like others have said, the trips offered through Thomson are a rip off and you can get the same in the square for much cheaper. Another tip... Water land is rubbish, don't waste your money!
On the whole we had a nice time and really recharged the batteries, however this place is more for families and even then I still think a week would be enough.

This hotel is lovely! Very friendly - family run - they cannot do enough for you! Rooms are simple, but spacious and very clean with great views.
Food good - breakfast buffet - cereal, fruit, bread, eggs, juice etc. Evening meal - soup, salad then a choice of approx 7 dishes, two daily specials, and about 6 omelettes, plus dessert. Good value for money if you wish to eat in the hotel.
The pool area is really relaxing, but with a good atmosphere. The bar by the pool does nice snacks for lunch and drinks are available all day.
Yes, the hotel is up a hill, but anyone of average fitness could cope. The hotel is in a great position. About 10 mins walk from the lively squire that has everything, whilst being far enough away to avoid the noise!
We would definately go back to this hotel.
Just a tip - we booked out trips in the square away from the rep, and got the same deal for half the price.

After reading the other comments on...

May 2006, Miss S List

After reading the other comments on this website I was a bit worried about the 'steep' hill on the way to the hotel but all I can say the person who said it was a steep hill and ruins your shoes must have visited another hilltop hotel! There was a hill but there are steps up the 'worst' part. I must admit it can take your breathe away if your in a hurry!
The family and the staff that run the hotel are lovely and take the time to get to know you, you are also well looked after.
The hotel & pool itself are so much better in real life-the photos do not do it justice.
The village square has everything you need including many restaurants, supermarket, bars, gift shops, doctors etc. One bar in particular I strongly recommend is 'Kelfos' the staff here are totally brilliant and so fun and friendly-you don’t even have to leave your seat, the drinks are brought over to you!
The only bad thing is that there are a lot of stray dogs about in Hanioti-this means there is often lots of barking and one dog did bite one of the other guest staying at the hotel. I must point out no stray dogs actually came onto the hotel area.
Other than that it was a fantastic holiday and I would go back again.

I have been to Hotel Hiltop 4 times...

Dec 2005, Mr J.R. Izon

I have been to Hotel Hiltop 4 times and to see what people have written about the food and the walk up to the hotel is quite alarming.
I am reasonably fit and the only part of the walk back from the town are the steps, which I must admit take a bit out of you. But hey! It certainly sobers you up for another drink in the bar before retiring for the night. It doesn't ruin your shoes unless you wear high heals!
The food, someone says is repetitive, RUBBISH! First of all remember you are in Europe (The EU) breakfast is usually a roll and jam, but The Hilltop provides a varied breakfast menu every day.
The brochure says it is on a hill and away from the town, peaceful. Great it is just what you need to relax. You don't need banging music all day and until 2am in the morning when you want to sleep. It takes us around 6 minutes to walk leisurely into the town and no more than 10 minutes to walk back.
You also have the choice of having "Half Board" by purchasing your evening meal in the Hotel. Incidentally it is cheaper to take this option at the hotel as it is more expensive to book Half Board via the Tour Operator.
I will return. Great place as are the owners and staff.

Great hotel but too far away from the...

Great hotel but too far away from the beach. Anyone who can’t walk far (DONT GO).The hill to get to the hotel is steep & when you go out for the night you really don’t want to climb a hill. In the Thomson’s book it says a slight incline (RUBBISH). My advice would be to take old shoes as the track you walk down is very dusty & ruins any shoes you have. The hotel itself is very clean & great if you don’t want to venture to far but be prepared for mountain climbing.

Hilltop Hotel is a perfect location...

Jun 2005, Mr Richard Kirby

Hilltop Hotel is a perfect location for those who are looking for a quiet retreat. The hotel albeit basic is very clean and tidy with a large swimming pool and plenty of sun loungers to relax under the olive and lemon trees. The food is basic and repetitive eggs/beans we ate there 3 times out of the 14nights it’s just not worth getting up for. The hotel as the name suggests is situated at the top of a steep hill but it’s only a short walk 10mins maximum to the main square.
The square is surrounded by bars and restaurants and a fantastic place for people watching. We looked at the previous reviews on this site before going to Hanioti and some of the recommendations were quite good. Kassandra's roof top restaurant well worth a visit if you can stand the love album playing all night. Hot Goblin for lunch cheap loads of food baked potato’s bigger than your head for about 4.5 Euro.
The best restaurant by far is 'Eriniko' it’s a large restaurant on the front close to the beach excellent fish/veal/steak and all Greek dishes it’s a real winner. Ask for Pascal he says he is the worst waiter in the world but like the food the service is outstanding. For those who are out food a good drink Garys fast food is the place for you Gyros 2 Euro a drinkers meal cheap as chips. The best place for pizza is opposite Kasandra's Italian stone baked thin and crispy pizzas again a real winner. All in all Hanioti is a great couples resort or for those with children it’s safe and relaxed.
I wouldn’t recommend it as a lads/lasses mad resort it’s no Falaraki/Ibiza. I would return there anytime it’s hot and the beaches and hotels are all of a high standard.
