We booked this hotel a few days...

Jan 2006, JackieB

We booked this hotel a few days before travelling as our long-awaited holiday to Mexico had been cancelled due to a hurricane. We arrived at the hotel just after midnight and were pleased to find that complimentary bottles of water had been left in the room. The room was spacious and what would normally be used as a sitting area had been converted into a double bed for our two children.
There was also a separate sleeping area, sectioned from the living area with built-in wardrobe and a fully-fitted, large bathroom. The hotel is situated in the valley of Taurito which is approximately 4 km from Puerto de Mogan and is surrounded by an imposing coastline of cliffs. Although there was some building work taking place it was not too close to the hotel. All rooms have a sea view, satellite TV, minibar and hairdryer.
In addition to the main restaurant, there is a pool bar and snack bar, from which you can get take-away pizzas, burgers, toasted sandwiches for lunch if you are not on full-board. The quality and choice of food in the main restaurant was of a good standard, however, there was usually a slight delay when ordering drinks from the waiters in the evening.
Entertainment was fairly low-key, comprising of a professional show or pianist in the piano bar. It was usually possible to get sunbeds at most times of day and there was ample space in the swimming pools, one of which was heated. The children’s pool was especially nice for anyone with toddlers. There was direct access to the beach, which although made from natural volcanic sand was quite pleasant for a short stroll and the sea was refreshing.
The rocks in front of the Taurito Princess just across the bay were good for crab watching. There was also an English speaking doctor just outside the Taurito Princess who I can personally recommend should the need arise. There is little in the way of bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity although there is a lido, crazy golf and tennis courts for hire and a Spar supermarket with a good range of products.
The hotel bus can be taken to Puerto de Mogan which was quite pleasant or Puerto Rico which was a little too lively for our tastes. We went on a couple of trips organised by the Rep, the first being Sioux City which the children thoroughly enjoyed and the dolphin/whale watching (we did eventually get to see a family of dolphins which was fabulous but the trip back to shore proved a little too much for most occupants of the upper deck!). All-in-all we enjoyed our holiday to Gran Canaria and wouldn't hesitate to return to the Suite Princess.

We Booked a late cheapie to Gran Canaria. What A delight to find ourselves in the Suite Princess.
We were given a double room with interconnecting doors and had two baths showers an loos (his and hers!) the furnishings were top quality and the views over the bay were stunning The hotel is perched on a cliff face and is at the top of a quite steep road so not recommended to anyone less mobile, however the did not bother us as we hired a car from the airport. The resort of Taurito is very quiet and really only has the hotels.
There are no clubs or bars, but just 3 kms away is Puerto Mogan one of the most delightful little ports we have ever seen, called Little Venice its a really lovely laid back harbour and town.
Suite Princess has so much going for it that it seem hard to have to say that for a 4**** hotel the evening entertainment was not as good as we have had in the past. The animation crew seemed to have little imagination other than to play dodgy music till ten o’clock the introduce the act for the evening, most of which were ok but not really inspiring .Given that the hotel was fairly isolated We think they could have made a bit more effort .
We have been in many hotels over the years but we have never seen so many cleaners or as much emphasis on cleaning, the place is truly spotless. However the staff numbers do not extend to the bars where a constantly harassed barman struggles to serve drinks and use some odd method of cashing, that involves getting a bill after he has served 3 other people and you are halfway to finishing your drink
All in all we had a super, relaxing break and would return again given the excellent Thomas Cook deal that we had .P.S if you do decide to tour the island, the road from Mogan to San Nicolas is twenty miles of the most twisting, up and down, hairpin bending road that we have ever seen!
Spectacular but a hairy drive especially when you meet large lorries coming the other way (listen out for their horns!).

The standard of accommodation at the Suite Princess is really excellent: the room had separate sleeping and sitting areas with a nice squashy sofa ! Lovely view over the beach and bay from the balcony.
As everyone points out, Playa Taurito is really quiet. Sadly, the only minus point I can find for the hotel is that it isn't ! Granted I was there in high season, but it was swarming with children especially into the evening when after the "kiddies disco" they seemed to spend most of the time chasing through the bars, until late.
The hotel dining room, for which there was always a long queue, was also very noisy, and perhaps as a consequence both dining room and bar service were somewhat harassed and haphazard - the food was buffet service, but sometimes getting hold of a waiter to bring the drinks could take half the meal. However, it’s a lovely place to stay and probably better out of high season.
If you go, don’t miss the short drive into Puerto Mogan, a really lovely, picturesque little place.

Jan 2004, Miss N A Headon

Upon arriving at Playa Taurito, we wondered what we’d let ourselves in for, as it’s a tiny resort, with about 4 hotels, 4 bars and a shop, although after arriving at the hotel were pleasantly surprised.
The hotel itself is definitely a 5* rating - it’s all done out in marble, with a huge reception area. The rooms are decorated lovely and are more like apartments really as they’re so big and have huge balconies. The view from the balconies is lovely, as they’re overlooking the pool, beach and the nearby Lido, and you get the most spectacular sunsets.
The pools at the hotel are lovely, but can get quite crowded during the day, so we preferred to go to the private beach, which was lovely and peaceful. Be careful of the waves on the beach though, as they could get quite big and on more than one occasion nearly had my bikini bottoms off!!
The hotel itself has 3 bars (2 inside & 1 pool bar), one of which is a piano bar and the other shows entertainment and plays music. We preferred to go into the bar with the entertainment, which we found to be of a very high standard. Some evenings we also went to a bar on the beach, where there was happy hour between 8 & 9pm every night and it would be "buy one get one free". There they have a man playing the piano singing (mostly Barry White songs), but he is really good.
We found the food at the hotel excellent - there is so much selection you wouldn’t believe - all different types of fish and meats and there is a wide variety of seafood. Basically you are spoilt for choice and I put so much weight on throughout the week, that I couldn’t fit into my clothes by the end of the holiday.
Whilst we were there, we mostly lay on the beach during the day, although we did go on one boat trip, which we booked with our rep. The trip went from Puerto Rico and it was going out to sea, dolphin spotting. When arriving at the harbour at Puerto Rico, we found we could have had a trip for much better value if we’d booked it there ourselves, instead of booking it via the rep - we didn’t even spot any dolphins!!
All in all, it was an excellent holiday, although Playa Taurito itself is VERY QUIET. I think it’s mostly catered for couples not families, as children would be very bored there. I would definitely recommend the hotel though, as it’s of a very high standard with a good level of cleanliness.
