We stayed at the Caretta Beach for one week from 6th - 13th September 2010. We asked for a quiet room with a pool view, which we received and were very pleased with. We had a one bedroom apartment overlooking the Bikini Bar. The room was better than we thought it was... more

Nice Hotel but limited activity in the resort.
Just returned from a visit to the Carreta Beach studios and have to say the studios are a bit small and basic but none the less clean.Beware in the bathrooms that there is no shower curtain and the place ends up soaking after showering. Its near the airport but no real effect of aircraft noise. The hotel bar is nice and provides evening entertainment. The swimming pools are good and plenty of sunbeds.Kalamaki itself is a different story. It becomes fairly boring after the first 2 nights with little entertainment. Dias and Mermaids are the best of the restaurants while best to avoid Partheron restaurant. The brochures says the beach is 10 mins away but seems more like 20 - 25. The mini golf is rubbish, best get a E7 taxi to nearby Laganas and seek entertainment there. Would recommend Go-Karting near Kalamaki. Nice hotel but won't be returning to Kalamaki as we saw it all after 2 days.
Caretta Beach
Caretta Beach Hotel (Apartments & Studios). Booked through Kosmar, arrived late due to luggage not arriving. Checked in, staff on desk were pleasant (nb you only get 1 room key an extra can be provided 20 Euro deposit and this will not make the electricity work). Was shown to our room which was nice and clean. I know Greece is very hot but there were no blankets on the bed. Maid service 6 days a week, sheets and towels were changed. Bathroom was an ok size, has a bath with shower, but no curtain. There was a small kitchenette, that had a microwave, cooking rings, toaster and kettle. Our room (not sure if all rooms are like this) had an interconnecting door to the next room, which meant that we could hear everything they said and vice versa. Our block was situated above the main bar they have sound proofing, but you can still hear the music at night. Swimming pools were nice, there are 4 large ones (2 are in different accommodation blocks) and a children's pool. Nightly entertainment, karaoke, race night, BBQ (with Greek dancing), pizza evening etc. All the bar staff were very nice and very friendly.
Caretta Beach Aparthotel
We stayed at the Caretta Beach Aparthotel, Kalamaki, Zante between 21st - 28th June 2007. It was the first holiday I'd booked through a travel agent in years and we were a little anxious due to the fact we couldn't find much information about it. However, we needn't have worried - upon arrival we were greeted and taken to our 1 bedroom apartment. It was basic, but very clean, looked new, and more than adequate for the 4 of us. The view was over the (3) swimming pools but this wasn't a problem because the room was well soundproofed, (this was a godsend because at times the music was loud at night and went on until midnight). The beds were big (my husband is 6ft 4") and comfortable if you like a hard bed. The room was cleaned 3 times in the week we stayed and the towels changed every other day. The staff were really friendly, helpful, and spoke excellent English. The supermarket on site was well stocked and not over priced. The airport was incredibly close (we could see the runway from the hotel - about 2 fields away) but not a problem, in fact it was exciting watching the planes landing and taking off, and there are no flights before 10am or after 10pm. To be honest, we visited the beach one day and the planes were louder there! If you stay here you must attend the Greek BBQ Night - the dancers were brilliant, smiled throughout dispite the extreme heat (Zante was experiencing a heatwave and reached 45' whilst we were there) and they involved the audience but weren't pushy, but most of all the food was excellent, well cooked, tasty, and plentiful. The hotel also held a Free Pizza Night. Just Margarita pizza but nevertheless it was free. Happy hour was daily between 4-6pm, 2 bottles of Mythos lager was just 2 Euros. The air conditioning was 35 Euros for the week and well worth the expense. Kalamaki itself was great and the hotel was located approx 5 minute walk from the main strip. There are a variety of restaurants ranging from Greek, English, Italian, Chinese, Indian etc. Our favourite meal was actually at the Dias Restaurant situated just by the hotel. It was the best priced meal we had during our stay, the service was excellent , and the food was delicious - definitly worth a trip - the staff were lovely to the children too. I know this is a long review - but I couldn't find much information on the hotel and wanted to do it justice!
ideal holiday for all!
We stayed in a studio room at the Caretta it was very clean as it was cleaned everyday and towels were changed 3 times in the week. The studio was basic all you need for a self catering holiday. Every one was very friendly at the hotel, reception staff and bar staff. The hotel has its own supermarket so you dont have to walk very far if you dont want to. Happy hour was also brilliant which is 4-6 everyday! The beach is 10-15 minute walk we went there 1 of the days we were in zante but there is hardly any shade there and as it was boiling at the time we went they were in a heatwave we decided to relax by 1 of the 4 pools instead. Overall food in kalamaki was lovely, we would definately return there and stay at the Caretta beach!!
Dodgy tour operator
We have recently returned from the CARETTA BEACH APARTMENTS.We had a duplex apartment which was adequate but not for cooking which didnt matter as we ate out every day.eating at restaurants is quite reasonably priced. The extras however are very expensive.25 euros for a safety deposit box & 50 euros for air con per week.We booked an island trip with a tour company called FRIENDS CLUB.The pick up was to be at their office at 0950 we arrived at 0940.When the office manager arrived at 1000 he was surprised to see us still waiting. He made a call on his mobile then told us that the coach had gone.He was not at all apologetic & tried to throw the blame onto us.When i asked for my money back he said he didnt have any and to call back in the evening. Then he took out 30 euros from his pocket and offered it as part payment.I took the money then he snatched my receipt off me.By this time i was really angry and wrestled the receipt off him.He then said he would ask the manager of the ambrosia restaurant across the road for a loan of 15 euros which he then gave to me.We then walked a little way up the road to another operator called SMILES.The lady there was very helpful. The following day we had our tour with TEZ and our good guide was Sue.In conclusion cheap is not best avoid the dodgy operators like FRIENDS CLUB who are most unfriendly and travel with a reputable company.Incidentally the friends club manager is not greek but albanian.
Nice Family Hotel
The Caretta Beach Hotel is described as 3 star, and it is a 3 star. Tbe Caretta is a very friendly family run hotel. It is very clean and of the things we asked, nothing was a problem. We stayed for a week in Oct (low season) which was long enough, as most attractions on the island were closing down for the season. The hotel has 2 pools which had bags of room for eveyone in the low season, but I think it might be cramped when the hotel is full. There was a football and volleyball pitch next to the main pool, but it was basic. There were some evening entertainment when we were there, which consisted of a Karoke machine on 2 nights. As we usually go out and about and do our own thing, we never really bothered with it. There is one hotel bar, which is quite good, and offers basic snacks for breakfast and meals. There is a supermarket at the hotel reception which offers basic necessities at a reasonable price. Although its a beach hotel, the beach is actually a 10 minute walk away! The rooms were basic with a small kitchen which we rarely used, but it would be adequate for cooking simple meals. The shower was pretty basic, but the beds could have been better. Although we had a double bed, it was 2 single wooden beds pushed together. The mattras was soggy and the wooden beds squeaked whenever you moved in the bed. Overall, Zante is a nice place, the hotel was very clean, friendly and 3 star.
Fantastic
I thought I would write a review, as looking for my holiday this year, and using this site to see what the hotels are REALLY like has been an eye-opener, and I found the reviews really helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anybody looking for a quiet break in nice surroundings. As we booked the break pretty last minute, there was very little choice, and to be honest I wasn't that keen on the Caretta Beach, as it didn't look anything special in the brochere. However, upon our arrival, my ex-partner and I were really impressed at how nice the place was. It was clean and friendly, and I really can't find a bad word to say about this place. The two pools were lovely, and the little pool was perfect in the afternoon, as it got really quiet, so we often had it to ourselves. The bar was cheap and had a massive range of lovely cocktails. The rooms are fairly basic, but we had a lovely big balcony on top of the little bar, which had real charm. The hotel is also only a couple of minutes walk from the main street, although it was surrounded by fields, which meant it was peaceful and relaxing. There was also something to do in the bar every night. The only people I would not recommend this hotel for twenty-something groups of friends, as there didn't appear to be anyone in this age group staying here and it is pretty quiet, but for couples and families with kids it is perfect.
