Stayed at Hotel Carreta Beach August 2011
Not worth the money paid, and misled by pictures from Hotel, portraying higher standard of rooms when in reality they are sub standard.
Food was appauling for an allinclusive, and not enough staff to cope with 1500 persons.
Choose another Hotel is my advice.
waterpark is a rip off, better elseware on zante.
- Advice: Area of Kalamaki outside good, laganus 4km eat out its cheap enough famliy of 3 =22 euros meals and drinks

This is the worst hotel I ver stayed at, I paid £2100 for a famliy of three and booked through Thomas Cook. It was an all inclusive package but it was a complete an utter shambles by this operator. Air safety was viloated when club 18-30 passengers get up on airline (tc), and make way towards cockpit yet cabin crew do nothing saet belts signs on aircraft dcescending into Zante airport.
All incusive end at 2230 when it was restricted and all inclusive snacks were limited with the beer they provide really weak. AlsoI observed the bar staff re-pouring coke in to bootles from glasses collected. Food was bland and repetitve only Greek/italian kids sausages and beans , nuggets. Greek salad for breakfast, lunch , tea.
entertaiment lacking, and very poor glorified karakoe performers ( supoosedly ex -x factor). Greek night poor nothing to write home about.
Water park is a sham, 'Aquamania' only ever two rides open at a time due to lack of life guards, also no life guards at any pools, outside waterpark.
Games area for kids naff, 3 pool tables in need of repair, 1 x table tennis table and a few arcade machines (big deal.
Rooms - we were aloocated a a box room intiallly no windows , absolutley crap, only when complained did we move to what we thought was better but till long way to go. They are not what is shown in brochure, aircon was on blink (temp 40+ Zante), charged for fan 15 euro.
Not proper beds for family of three only really for two person (sofa bed) very hard to sleep on.
Bathroom dangerous, and slippery and nobigger than 4x6 also electrics exposed, and scorch marks on sockets from previous problems.
Do not come and stay here. security and Safety is a big issue with thefts from rooms, and while I was there a young boy under 10 was mugged outside hotel shop for 50 cents. Hotel will not call police.
Look at trip advisor and Just Zante also for my reviews and other peoples regarding this.
- Advice: Strongly advise anyone to stay away from this hotel

Just come back and had a brilliant time, and want to go straight back out there!!!
The food is outstanding with a top chef employed by the appts whom takes pride of his work.
The aqua park is joined on and is free if all-inclusive, the kids and `adults` will have a fantastic time in there no matter what your / there age is it accomodates all.
Although it is a big complex the owners are very friendly and cant do enough for you.
Would I go back?
Silly question really........best place i`ve been to in the last 20 years!

This is our 3rd stay at Caretta Beach Hotel Kalamaki, Oct 2011,this time as there were 4 of us we had a 2 bedroom apt on 2 levels in A block the apartment was fantastic, this allowed my son and his girlfrend there own space.
Hotel staff excellent as usual including the maids who were very friendly and helpful.
Entertainment was good in the hotel, but would have been nice to have more on even although its october people still look forward to holiday fun...
Kalamaki very quiet in october this year compared to last, lots closing early for the end of season, wanted to shoe friends cave bar etc but all closed.
We went to Argassi and Laganas but agan both very quiet everything closing end of season.
As usual food really good in most places, fav Heavens Kitchen, food brill as well as friendly staff, olve tree really good too....
Already booked up to go back to Kalamaki next year, will be back in Caretta to have a look at the new all inclusive..
Definately recomend Kalamaki to visit been May June and October and have to say June the best time to visit weather great, busy nightlife, eveything open..

would never return to this hotel the staff sit whispering about you and laughing behind your back the bar men Craig Goerge and Stephen were like dogs on heat anything female any age was a target then the next day they would all sit laughing about the poor victim's making fun off them. Then there's David Ambrose who thought he was the big i am he was seriously crazy and the blond girl on the till on nights was so rude and would hold your hand out for change and she would just shove it on the counter at you and walk off. Never been made to feel so unwelcome and the rooms were filthy and the beds have severe case of bed mite nearly replacement every morning would wake up with little tiny bits from the mattress so was glad to leave.
Within 2 days wanted to leave.
the entertainment is awful especially the blond women who forgot her words to lady gaga and started humming instead what a joke and then there's Karl Lewis he was rubbish sung out of his nose was so bad would never return if i was even paid to made an official complaint to first choice so others are warned about this place trust me if you are considering going here please for your sakes don't really really bad here holiday from hell is putting it nicely!!!!!

This was my second time to kalamaki with my boyfriend and we are 22 years old,we love the place, although we did go out of season and it was very quiet compared to when we were there main season a couple of years back.
We choose caretta beach because the pools looked lovely, and they were indeed! especially the bikini bar pool which was my favourite, very large pool with a swim up bar,but quiet compared to the main area.
Our room was lovely, spacious, large balcony and lovely bathroom, our only complaint was we asked for a quiet room with a pool view, and we didnt get that,we were placed on the bottom floor next to the reception, busstop and laundry room, this is called D block,we didnt have a pool view and the fact that there 7 pools,we expected one! the laundry room was loud in the morning, and the buses were loud outside at 3am doing pick ups,we didnt ask if we could change our room because we didnt plan on spending much time in it,so i havent reflected this in my rating.
we had such an amazing time in kalamaki again, and the caretta beach has to be one if not the nicest hotel in zante, the pools are amazing. Its such a shame its going all inclusive next year because kalamaki isnt the type of place to go all inclusive, the restaurants are far too nice but maybe i would consider going back there one day just because it was amazing :)

It was great.. im only 19 and went on my first holiday with my boyfriend. We are not the type to go partying every night and be absolutley rat *****. so we deciced kalamaki looked nice and i was told by people that it was.. and in fact they were right. We had a great time.. we went for 2 weeks. The hotel is great lovely people and very helpful. We done half board and the breakfast was okay.. it was a little cold sometimes, bt there was enough to choose from. The Evening meal was at pandesia and they give you a menu to choose from, there food was nice but after a while it became a little boring as everything was the same. it was either steak, chicken Gyros. but it was good enough and cheap.
There is a little shop on sight and the prices are a little expensive so it may be a good idea to buy food before you go.
The planes were great there is not as much noise as what people say.. you do see them come across but not across your hotel, from some of the balconies you may see them, as it was good. they do not travel between 12 am and 5am.
We were just above the reception and some times there were the odd group of people which were noisy, but thats not the hotels fault it depends on what people are there when you go. this time of year it was very quiet so that was great.
There are plenty of swimming pools. ones which are lively with voley ball and sports, or another which would have families around or others which were quiet for people who just want to relax.
There is always entertainment on in the eveings and the greek night i would recommend.
The self catering rooms come with fridge and lil freezer, microwave, a little two electric ring hob and a kettle. they had plenty of cutlery and untensils.
Kalamki its self is getting a lil quiet this time of year, and wen you have done the shops once or twice there is nothing much left to see. So we rented a quad out and went up the mountains and kinda explored a little. Laganas is just down the road you can walk which took us 40mins or taxi which make sure you agree a price before you get in. But they are rather cheap.
there is a resturant in kalamaki called the olive tree and the food there was great A*.
We had a great holiday and would love to go back there again.

We stayed at the Caretta Beach for one week from 6th - 13th September 2010. We asked for a quiet room with a pool view, which we received and were very pleased with. We had a one bedroom apartment overlooking the Bikini Bar. The room was better than we thought it was going to be. It was a fair size (just the two of us), modern, set out well and very clean. The cleaners were in everyday to empty bins, make beds ect... All appliances you needed were in the kitchen, fridge, toaster, microwave, kettle and hob, with all utensils required for self catering. Very impressed with the bathroom with a bath and a shower!!! Also had a sofa bed, coffee table, dining table and chairs. You could seperate this from the bedroom with sliding doors. Large double bed which was very comfortable!!! and a large balcony with great views. espacially when the sun set over the mountains. We only used the main bar area a couple of times but the food was good and the staff very friendly. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. It was only a ten minute walk to the beach but the caretta ran a courtesy bus to and from. We had an early checkout 10:30am, but were able to keep the room on until 3am for €25. We loved this hotel and found it a great base for exploring Zante. Great for Kids and couples. They are building a new Water Park and restruant for next year as its going all inclusive with Thomas Cook. Half board is available at the moment though. We had an excellent time and are taking the kids there next year!!! Would recommend this hotel to everybody!

Went to The caretta beach hotel with my parents and my dads 2 sisters for 2 weeks, we got back yesterday, The hotel and staff are excellent, very welcoming and very fun, we booked as self-catering, and were given a duplex apartment in block B, overlooking the 3 main pools and our balcony was next to/overlooking the bar, we were very disappointed with what met us inside, the 2 main bedrooms were great, roomy with wardrobes, but the lounge in the middle was so small, in the brochure it describes a living room/kitchen with a pullout sofa bed, well, when we got in,
the "sofa bed" was a small made up bed, no chairs or table for people to sit in and eat at, the kitchen was in a small space under the stairs (which led to the 2nd bedroom,1st bedroom led off from this supposed living space), the kitchen was a fridge with a small cupboard underneath the sink, beside the sink was a microwave and on top of that was a tiny twin-plate hob, with barely much room between it and the curve of the stairs, now with no-where to properly put that hob, just where did they expect us to cook anything?!
We were 5 adults, this type of accom is not suitable for 5 adults!! Maybe 4 adults and a child, but please be warned, not suitable for 5 adults. Also being this close to the bar the music and evening entertainments are very loud, they continue till 12.30am, sometimes longer, unless your a very heavy sleeper, don't expect any peacefull nites sleep if your apartment is around the bar pools; this is a very entertaining, fun hotel.
This is a great hotel for youngeters and those who like to party late, but i would not reccommend for a very relaxing place. This was my 3rd holiday in kalamaki, i love it here, but i like a relaxing holiday, so will be staying at a quieter hotel next time. But still i did have fun during the days here, the bar staff are fabulous, making your stay very fun.

I have never written a review but I feel that others should know about the Hotel Caretta. I have always booked with Thomas Cook and found the staff in our local shop brilliant and previous A/I holidays have been amazing all 4*. My issues are not with Thomas Cook but with the Hotel and its poor standards. Certainly not 4 *, more 2* and I think should be reviewed.
I booked Jan 2011 and was impressed with the write up and the flashy photos in the brochure. What a letdown!! I can’t honestly see how some guests have found this hotel ‘Amazing’
The first room given was above the bar in block’ A’, very small and noisy, not good for our 5 year old when trying to sleep or for any of us! I asked to speak to Nansy from the reservation Dept. I had sent previous email to her about allocating us a quiet, nice room and she had been very kind. She did offer us a room in ‘F’ block. I really didn’t want a room here as I had been read from previous reviews that it was in need of renovation and deep cleansing and the cockerel could start from 2am! I asked about up-grading to the new blocks in K,L or M but I would be charged 25 euro’s for each night. If I had booked with TC I would have only paid £30 for two weeks!
We took the room in ‘F’ block. The shower had no screen or curtain so the whole bathroom was drenched unless you showered sat down, not pleasant! Ants on the floor and in the room you could smell the 'drains'! The cockerel did start from 2 am; he was very confused probably from the lack of food and water! It’s shocking how the animals are treated here. There is a gorgeous female ‘German Shepherd’ at the back o block ’F’ shut in a filthy cage. I fed her in the mornings and evenings and jumped over the fence to give her water. Her cage is disgusting, old mouldy buckets of food and bread and pasta full of maggots! I let her out to run one day but she came back a couple of hours later. So sad. I can’t stop thinking about that dog. If you’re due to go out there please feed her.
The cleaners do the minimal and if you are unfortunate to have your room cleaned at the latter part of the day then your room would stink from the filthy mop and bucket used in previous rooms! The balcony was never swept or washed. Beds made would mean just the straightening of the bottom sheet and top sheet just left on the bottom of the bed. No water was in the fridge so immediately you had to pay to have water for the room. No iron but you could hire one from reception. Kitchen appliances are faulty and dangerous.
The actual water park is very much on site! In fact you will be in a children's playground! That said we 'picked this holiday' for the kids entertainment. However, it wasn't structured and it resulted in a really noisy complex with children left to 'run wherever' at all times of the day! The water park and pool areas are well maintained but only half the water slides on the water park were open at any one time. We never once were able to get a sun bed around the pool or at the water park. All the beds were reserved by 8am and not by the Germans it’s the English! I complained to the Rep and the Reception. I was told that I should just move the towels. I wasn’t going to do that! It would cause confrontation with other guests, I don’t think so!
Hygiene was extremely poor with the communal toilets and on the cleaner’s day off was left for some time with no loo roll or bins being emptied it was all very smelly.
We weren't made aware of the hotels animation team, they weren't very good at promoting the activities. Entertainment was virtually non-existent. Promised loads of activities for kids, Pool, there were 3 tables which had seen better days. Colouring in and for 15 mins some evenings a kids disco. At the Kids club everything is chargeable. ‘Bingo’ is the highlight of the evening if you like that sort of thing!
The hotel is nowhere near the Beach and is a 25 minute walk for small children.
The Restaurant. Up to 10/15mins at times to get a drink at the bar at night. Drinks are poor. Watered down wine and fruit juices. The food is repetitive, cheap cuts of meat being used and very un- appetising. There only is so much pasta, rice and chips someone can eat, and the rest of the food was boring and bland. I eat anything but not at this place! The snacks were not that much better, toasties but you can’t choose what you want in them they are pre-made and everything is with cheese, not everyone like cheese! There was no restaurant service so you had to lay your own table and get your own drinks a bit like a naff canteen.
We won’t be going back to the Caretta Beach and we do think the star rating needs looking at, we feel we didn't experience the best of Kalamaki, which is a shame. I have registered a complaint with Thomas Cook.
