My boyfriend and I got a last minute...

My boyfriend and I got a last minute deal to Zante, having decided on trying out the Greek Islands. We're both 29 and chose this hotel as its advertised as more of a couples/family hotel, rather than 18-30's.
This was my first experience of HOT weather and I was prepared for it, but if you're not too keen on scorching sun then you would probably enjoy the slightly cooler climate in Sept/Oct.
We were more than pleasantly surprised when we arrived at our accomodation. The brochure pictures certainly don't do this hotel any justice.
There are 3 separate apartment blocks, each with their own pools. The main pool which has 2 separate pools has plenty of sun loungers around, and there was no need to reserve the loungers with towels early in the day. We tended to plan our days so we could be back at the hotel for 4pm as it's 2 for 1 on the drinks in the hotel bar, until 6pm. Which is perfect timing for then getting yourself off back to your apartment to shower and get ready for dinner.
The accommodation is basic, but its not like you're going to spend much time in your apartment. You can cook in there, but probably not a 3 course meal, it's ideal for beans on toast, or other simple meals. The air conditioning is in the bedroom only, so it does get quite hot in the kitchen area during the day. The cleaners do a great job of changing towels and bedding and cleaning the apartment, definitely no complaints there.
I can't comment on the food here as we ate out every single day. There are loads of restaurants to choose from and the hotel is just slightly off the main strip so its not noisy at night.
There a lots of bars to choose from, each with their own happy hours. There's a bar to suit every taste, from lively karaoke bars, to more relaxing and quiet bars if you just fancy a cocktail whilst watching the sun go down.
We booked a boat trip with our holiday rep on the first morning of our holiday. It's a whole day trip and takes you up to the North of the Island travelling up the East coast. I waas totally stunned by this trip, the views are fantastic, the sea is so clear, and you get to visit a true ship-wreck. They anchor the boat a couple of times, wherever they can, depending on the tides so you can go for s swim. Health & Safety doesn't appear to exist over here, so if you're not a strong swimmer, then get a life jacket which the crew will offer. Also, be careful swimming near the sides of the boat, lots of nasty rust and I unfortunately grazed my legs quite badly. But the experience is amazing.
The hotel is very near the airport, but because of restrictions (apparently due to the turtles) there are no night flights so you don't have to worry about any noise. If you're into planes, then you can go for a walk right up to the runways and watch them coming in (very sad!)
The beach is about a 15 minute stroll from the hotel. With lots of other hotels and bars dotted around it, and your more than welcome to use the bars and pools there too. You can pay for a sun lounger on the beach, and there are pedaloes to hire too. The planes come in quite low over the beach, but that wasn't a problem for us,
Lagana is a taxi ride away if you fancy a more lively night, we found a lovely restaurant on the beach front. Quite upmarket, and if you book in advance, they can serve crocodile and ostrich and other unusual dishes. Its a bit pricey, but if your celebrating whilst your out there I would recommend this place - last one on the strip, and the name escapes me, sorry!
If the world was a smaller place then I would definitely come back here, it's my mission to visit all the Greek Islands now.
Worth every penny, and much more besides!

Overall, very good accommodation....

Overall, very good accommodation. Modern, spacious apartment with separate bedroom, kitchen had microwave, kettle, hob plus fridge. Good size balcony.
Very good facilities; pool area had 3 separate pools with plenty of loungers and lots of inflatables for everyone's use.
Aircraft noise not an issue; there's only 1 or 2 planes an hour landing or taking off, so don't let it put you off.
Tons of bars/restaurants within a 5min walk.
BAD POINTS:
1. We were put in A block which is totally unsuitable for a young family (we had an 11 month old baby), due to late night music/noise from the bar. Kosmar rep was useless at sorting out the problem.
2. The BBQ had average food and really rubbish wine, plus the whole family had a stomach upset for days afterwards. Avoid BBQ night like the plague!! There's much better food to be had in Kalamaki's many restaurants.
Fantastic selection of restaurants with very good food at very reasonable prices. Lots of facilities, like car hire, supermarkets, bars all within a few minutes walk of the hotel. Not really picturesque but it wasn't sold as a traditional Greek village. Beach was fine if a bit small and narrow.

I recently returned to England after a week at the Caretta Beach Hotel with my fiancé and daughter. We had a wonderful holiday. The Hotel was clean and very welcoming, staff were charming and helpful, the food was excellent, both within the hotel and in Kalamaki itself.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone - my 9 year old daughter is still upset because she misses Demitris so much!!
(NB temperatures got up to 46C - too hot to do anything but laze around pool and bar, but at this place, it was a pleasure!)

All I can say is, absolutely amazing! Very hot when we went in the 2nd week there was a health and safety notice as temps got up to 45C! Madness.
Anyways. I'd recommend this place to anyone! Don't go off the pictures, I was really sceptical at first, let’s just say, last year it had 2 pools now it has 5. Very big expansion and very clean and well laid out.
Everyone is so so so friendly specially Tasos - you will find him at reception or the main bar around 12am - 7am! Get to know him, As well as Yannis and George "come on everybody!" That’s all they seem to say ha-ha. Poolside food is good also, happy hour 4-6pm buy one get one free on all alcoholic drinks!
I could go on and on about Carette beach hotel/apartments but I'm not. From all these reviews you can tell what a smashing place it really is! Amazing! Me and my boyfriend are going back in September for a week (sadly don't have enough holidays for 2 weeks) so can't be bad eh?

Just returned back from Zante, it was unbelievably hot as they were in August weather whilst we were there, we managed without the air conditioning for the first 4 nights, but we had to get it in the last couple of days, it was of reasonable price too!
The staff were very friendly at the hotel we drank at both of the bars, and in the evening there was always something going on there. Happy hour is 4-6pm which is always a bonus!
There are 3-4 pools to choose from one being busier than the rest so you can always go to another pool if you want to relax.
The rooms were cleaned everyday and had towels changed 3 times in the week, the rooms had everything you need for self catering accommodation kettle, toaster, and fridge. We stayed in a studio as there was only 2 of us, the rooms were just the right size they weren't too small.
There are lots of lovely places to eat in Kalamaki. We returned to BBQ steak house twice, there really friendly there and the food is lovely!!
We would stay at the Caretta Beach again it’s the perfect holiday location for couples, families, everybody!!

My boyfriend and I returned last night from a week holiday in Kalamaki, Zante. We stayed at the Caretta Beach Hotel. It was brilliant.
The hotel is clean, neat, great swimming pools, modern. The Staff are great! Friendly, the bar staff are fun and crazy at times! They make you feel at home, they jump at your every need... they make friends with you and are so interested in where you come from, what you do etc etc.
The hotel has everything you need. It’s a 3min walk from the main road. A 10-15min walk from the beach. We hired scooters for 3 days and a car for one day. We travelled around the whole island. We did water sports and stopped off at most beaches around the island.
Kalamaki is a great place to stay. It’s quite with life during the evening.
Laganas is more for the youngsters and honestly... not so pretty to look at. It’s kind of like being back in London. It’s very English and sadly it has lost its Greece feeling/tradition.
If you want to party hard and have a hangover for a week... Laganas is your best bet.
But if you want to explore Greece, go snorkelling, boat trips, beaches and a little night life... Kalamaki is great. There are also other great towns to visit. Argassi is also nice!
At the hotel they have an event every night.
On Friday night its Barbeque night with traditional Greek dancing... and trust me... you will be dancing too! Lots of fun! The food is brilliant... and from 4-6pm each day its happy hour at all the bars in the hotel... 2 for 1... Careful you might get slossy really quickly! Happened to me and I had a nice headache the next day!
June is a great time to go, it’s not too busy, yet... the weather was crazy HOT. 35 to 36 degrees almost each day. We got wicked tans!
It’s just great... You have to see Greece!
My next stop will be another Greek island sooner or later.

Me and my boyfriend have just got back from Zante, and it was absolutely brilliant, we had such a good time.
The hotel was so nice and clean everyone was friendly and helpful, some of the bar staff were crazy!
From the pictures on the website it has changed a bit, it’s a lot bigger and it’s got three main pools, a volleyball pool and a kid’s pool, quite a large bar area and games room with pool tables etc.
The quiet pool was great as there were no kids in that area, so good for relaxing.
A lot of bars and restaurants in Kalamaki, but if you want a more lively night out get a taxi for 7 euro into laganas bars and clubs open very late.
We want to try and go again next year.

Excellent place to stay very friendly, Seraya is the best manger we have ever come across, especially after the way Seraya dealt with the mix up with the passport on the first visit in 2005 (this is one of reasons we returned). Found everything clean (apartments and grounds kept clean and tidy). The bar staff would keep you entertained and the pizza and BBQ night well worth the money. This was our 2nd visit to Carretta Beach.
There are some lovely places to eat our favourite was just up the lane at Michealos staff and food was the best and they were great with the kids.
Well worth hiring a car some fab places to see but drive carefully, Gerakas and Porto Zorro was our favourite.
I'm more that sure anyone who stays here will have a great holiday.

We've just returned from 2 weeks at the Carretta Beach hotel it was the best holiday we have had and will be booking up for next year we stayed in 2 one bedroom apartment with my husband and I with a 16 yr old son in one and my mum and mother law and daughter in the other.
The rooms are comfortable, the kitchen is basic toaster, kettle, and 2 electric rings, fridge, but meals in the bar restaurant are cheep so no real need to cook. There were two pools, one quieter than the other and both had bars serving snacks. Happy hour was 5 to 7 pm doing buy one get one free on all drinks. They do a mean pina colada. The hotel is set back from the main street but only a two minute walk. There are loads of family friendly places to eat and drink and tat shops for souvenirs.
If you want to see the turtles go on a small boat trip from Laganas 10 euro for 1 hour guarantee to see turtles. There is go carting track just outside Kalamaki if there are more than 4 of you they will come and collect you free of charge and take you back to your hotel after. If you want water sports there is a free bus daily to St Nicolas bay its a lovely beach but only one bar and restaurant there and no transport back till 5 pm so be prepared to stay there for the day.
The water park is great, go on one of the trips organised by the cruise seller 22 euro including transport it costs 17 euro to get in so it’s a bargain and a great day out.
Staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful a great base for a holiday in Zante.

We have stayed at the Caretta Beach hotel the past 3 years, it was lovely, the family who run it looked after us very well, nothing was too much to ask of them. The staff are very nice, the new manager Serina is very helpful too. The bar staff are mad haha.
We had 3 great family holidays with them and would go back again. Great bbq and pizza nights too. We had a great holiday rep Tony who looked after us very well. I would def recommend the Caretta to anyone.

Me and my partner spent two weeks here with our two year old daughter and we loved it. The hotel was nice and clean, the swimming pool was my little girl's favourite place. The location was great as it was close to everything.
There are some lovely restaurants and bars in Kalamaki, we ate out every day and found the prices reasonable. The people were wonderful and it made our holiday much more pleasant.
We would love to go back in a couple of years.

The Carretta Beach apartments are a reasonably large set of 4 main blocks. The complex probably has about 150 rooms in total.
We went as a couple and just wanted to get away from it all so it suited us fine. The complex is mainly used by families so expect quite a few children at the pool. It is however kept very clean and there are 2 pool areas of which one doesn’t seem to have so many children.
The self catering facilities aren’t up to much, but there was a toaster and a kettle which is all we needed as we only had breakfast in the apartment.
In Kalamaki itself there are a lot of nice restaurants and a few bars (but if you want lots of bars then Laganas is only a 5 minute taxi ride away). Our favourites were mermaids, tesoro and spaghettomania.
