We've holidayed at the Rock since 1999 and been there four times since 2002. Wonderful place - like going back to home. Genteel but the staff like guests who are human - you get much more than the normal service if you are. We're back there again in July for another... more

Fantastic room, view, food, and service. The room was massive with whisky and sherry provided (free) and refilled each night. The service was A class, the view was spectacular. This was a true 4* hotel (unlike my last holiday Hera Village Crete. Argh!). I would recommend... more

Marvellous hotel !
My wife and I stayed at the Rock Hotel for 3 days on our honeymoon. When we booked in we had only been in the room for about 10 minutes when a waiter turned up with a bottle of champagne in an ice bucket, some flowers and a card from the staff wishing us well - brilliant ! All the rooms, some with balconies, overlook the harbour with views of Spain, Gibraltar Bay, the Straits and North Africa. If you do nothing else sit and take in this view every day as there is always something going on. The rooms are a good size and the bathrooms appear to have been recently refurbished and are pristine clean. Nice big towelling bath robes and slippers are supplied in every room plus the little decanters of sherry and whisky. We ate in the restaurant every night and on each occassion we found the food and choice on the table d'hote menu was very good. We had a table overlooking the harbour but wherever you sit in the restaurant you get a good view. The Wisteria bar and terrace is worth a visit as it is like stepping back in time with all the old photographs on the walls of past patrons and ships that have visited. All the staff were only too pleased to help and if you wanted any arrangements made then they made them straight away. There is some building work going on next door but in our 3 days there we only heard noise once for about 10 minutes so do not let any mention of these works put you off staying at this marvellous hotel.
The Rock Hotel is A1
We stayed for 3 nights at the Rock Hotel in March 06., en-route to Portugal. Again (this was our 4th visit) the total service and commitment of staff was excellent. Our room and bathroom was very clean and was 'tided up' daily. The breakfasts are just the job and of an evening the food served in the bar is very good, with a first class bar manager. The view from the balcony is A1 with Africa in the background, there is a 'hum' from the generators in the naval dockyard but this all adds to the experience. We will return. We rate this hotel as above average.
Rock Hotel - Still great
We stayed for my birthday in February and the hotel remains fantastic. Further to the previous comment there was a housing development being built next door but we found it no bother even though we were on that side of the hotel. These works can't be far from completion however.
Early Spring at the Rock Hotel
The Rock Hotel is ideally situated in Gibraltar and all the rooms have views of the bay. We wouldn't have wanted to stay in the town or anywhere else. The Casino is just 100 yards up the hill, there are botanical gardens immediately below and the cable car is very close. building work next door goes almost unnoticed. All in all we recommend this hotel.
Agent reports major building work adjacent to site
I have NOT stayed at this hotel. An agent made a booking for me but the confirmation documentation came with an advisory statement that there are "major building works adjacent to the hotel". I chose to rebook elsewhere, as the trip is a special wedding anniversary celebration.
Rock Hotel
Just returned from a 4 night stay in the Rock. Location is excellent. Rooms very spacious and lovely views over the harbour. Very clean, and the decanters of sherry and whisky a lovely touch Staff couldn't have been more helpfull. Would definitely stay there again.
superb
Me and my Family (parent in 40's 17 year old daughter)stayed here for a week in July 2004 and have nothing but praise for the hotel and the staff. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel extremely welcome. The rooms are nothing spectacular granted but we had an amazing view of Africa from our balcony which made up for it. Brndy and sherry were supplied daily to out room along with lollipops(!) and the rubber ducks in the bathroom were a lovely touch. We were on a b&b basis and were delighted at the large range of food avaliable for breakfast, so much so that lunch wasn't needed on most days. The hotel were happy to help us arrange excursions for us to morrocco etc. Another bonus for us was the swimming pool. Fresh sea water that was very refreshing when the temperatre reaches 40 degrees and there were ample sunloungers and food and drink avaliable
Rock Hotel - Very pleasant stay
We arrived on Friday 9 September 2005 for 5 days and stayed at the Rock Hotel. Imagine our suprise when the taxi driver told us that it was National Day on the Saturday. We found the hotel to be clean, friendly and professional and with plenty of seating areas throughout the hotel. The room was bright, and airy, and very clean with all the usual facilities. The balcony with a table and chairs was just right to sit out at night with a bottle or two, National daywas great, it had more Union Jacks than I have seen. Everyone was dressed in Red and White, and all from different cultures. They should be proud of them selves. I suppose the only criticism we have got is that it is a bit of a walk to get up the hill. But they do have plenty of taxis for about 2/3 pounds. We watched the amazing firework display from our balcony with tremendous views over the harbour and even views of Africa. If you go on day trips, pick them carefully. We went on a Battle of Trafalgar trip, but of course the only thing you see on this was the sea and the area the battle was in. Extremely pleased with this hotel and its facilities. We will be back!
Birthday treat
I took my Mother for her 83rd Birthday to the Rock Hotel. The hotel kindly made her a Birthday cake which was enjoyed by all who tried it. We were very well looked after and the service throughout the hotel was excellent. I would certainly like to return for a few more days of luxury.
A kind of Magic
The wonderful Rock Hotel, I recently stayed for 2 nights and would really like to congratulate everyone at the hotel for a fantastic stay, the staff are all very professional balanced with a friendly human touch, the hotel itself is full of character in its art deco architecture and interior style, the location is just superb overlooking the bay of Gibraltar. Staying here is not just a holiday it is a truly memorable experience, it transforms the present moment into long happy memories that will last a lifetime. A great asset to the beautiful and diverse rock of Gibraltar. Thanks and keep up the god work, Jerome Finlayson.
