We had went to the caleta for my 21st birthday. And boy did they make it worth while. The hotel did look shabby to begin with but what do you expect when your hotel is directly on the beach or near enough.
The staff were so friendly and helpful they couldnt have done enough for us, especially on my birthday, they had a mention on the board letting everyone know, and champaigne on arrival for when i got back form morroco.
The room was so lovley i had a double room facing on to the rock with my very own balcony. I had the biggest one there. Then i got upgraded then i had a sea view as well with everything included.
I am going to go back next year and i will be returning to the caleta as they are worth spending the money on.

Overall really pleased with the 'Rock' and the Hotel. We went out of season on purpose, and it was really worth it as the number of tourists was minimal. We paid £800 for flights + 4 nights for two of us.
There's loads of stuff to do there, we had a coach tour of the Rock included in the holiday which was great. Also we went to the Rock Hotel (where all the famous people stay!) for dinner, worked out quite reasonable - £60 for both of us for 2 courses and wine. If you're an anglophile, you'll love the British money, red post boxes, and M&S shops!
We used the buses to get around, as it's such a small place there's only about 4 routes which cover everywhere, a single was about 60p, or about £2.00 for an all-day ticket.
The downside of being October was it's too cold to swim in the sea and many of the 'tourist' shops are closed. I knew this would be the case, but the reason I’ve given it 9/10 was because on two of the days we were there, there was a bus strike, so we did quite a bit of walking!
I can't fault the hotel at all. Staff were English speaking and helpful, and we had only booked a standard double room (i.e. no upgrades) but it had a full sea view and the most beautiful sunset. All the usual as well inc. minibar, TV, balcony with furniture.
To those planning to go, it's basically Britain but warmer. the prices are about the same, being such a small place a week would be quite enough, I don’t think there's enough to do there for 2 weeks. Get yourself a travel pass for the bus! The caleta hotel is a little 'off the tourist trail' but it's in a beautiful location and if I went again I’d stay there over one of the hotels in the main town, especially as there's a bus stop right outside.

" I stayed here in May this year with... "

I stayed here in May this year with my fiancé, friends and family and got married in the hotel. The room was fabulous, with a robe and slippers supplied as well as toiletries etc.
We had a sea view room with a balcony and the sunrise was like nothing I had ever seen before. Truly spectacular!
Our wedding was all we could have dreamed of in the beautiful garden followed by a meal in their restaurant, Nuno's. Nuno's is not cheap but you definitely get what you pay for - I have never had such a wonderful meal.
The hotel is right next to what is pretty much the only beach in Gibraltar, and steps lead down from the hotel to the beach.
The pool had just been redone when we were there, and is salt water. Afternoon tea in the terrace should be done at least once - it's so very English!
The staff practically fell over themselves to help us and we couldn't have felt more welcome. Gibraltar itself is a joy to tour - we took a taxi tour and visited the caves, tunnels that go through the Rock and the Ape's Den. We went up the top and photographed the Caleta from above. On one of the days we went dolphin watching and saw lots of them surrounding the boat, showing off for us.
Gibraltar often gets a bad press as being a short cruise stop to stock up on your duty free but I think this is selling it very short.
Thank you Gibraltar, and especially the Caleta, for making our wedding so special.

" My wife and I stayed 21st to 29th... "

My wife and I stayed 21st to 29th December in room 420.
The check in was easy with directions to our room friendly and porter offered.
Room was very clean, comfortable and well equipped, the breakfast was buffet style and all choices covered.
The bar was pricey as where the restaurants. The hotel situation being a 15 minute walk to town was ideal although buses run every 25mins for a flat charge of only 60 pence.
We will definitely return.

It’s supposed to be a 4 star hotel but you could have fooled me.

I had stayed here before maybe 5 or 6 years ago, and although it is a wonderful position with wonderful views, standards have been on the decline since then. The place looks tired generally, although our room was quite tidy. A good lick of paint and a good rethink is needed in some areas. We didn’t eat there as it was expensive and I recall from the earlier visit the food was nothing special.

In fact my only recommendation for the place is for the lovely Mediterranean views over to north Africa, and the fact it is located well away from the busy town, although it is easily walkable if desired.

" I stayed in The Caleta hotel in June... "

I stayed in The Caleta hotel in June 2004 and although it is a four star hotel it seems more like a three star.
The hotel badly needs refurbishment as paint is peeling off of many walls and the place is run down. The corridor leading to our room stank so strongly of sewage that we had to hold our breath before dashing though It.
The garden areas and terraces were full of weeds and broken cement statues and railings looked dangerous to Me.
The pool area was grubby and the toilets were always out of order. Or maybe just easier for them to leave locked up than bother to fix.
Breakfast was £8.50 and I explained that my partner was on a restricted diet due to her illness and that all she could eat was a bowl of cereal, but we still had to pay £8.50 if we wanted even that, no quibbling. The manager told me the hotel was there to make money even though a bowl of cereal would cost about 20 pence. Talk about unhelpful.

Location wise, it is on the opposite side of the rock to where the town is, but we really didn't find this too much of an inconvenience - the reception call you a cab and it costs about £3 -£4
We were very lucky and had fantastic weather - this enabled us to make the most of the pool, the beach next to the hotel and the lovely louge terrace
Gibraltar is tiny, so there is a limit of things to do there. But if you want 4 days away with good weather, this is a great little place to stay. All in all, money very well spent.
