Hotel Description:

The Grand Hotel Ambasciatori is surrounded by the green of a centuries-old park straight on the sea; in 19th century it was namely a villa used as summer holiday residence by a noble family from Piemonte. More recently it happened to be the home of a very well-known fortune-teller; she had a good reputation in the neighbourhood since she was supposed to be of good omen. Ideal for long stays and interesting excursions to Capri, Naples, Pompei, the Vesuvius and the Amalfi coast.

" We stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks... "

We stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks and had a wonderful holiday. The views from the terrace over the Bay of Naples were stunning , especially the sunsets.

The food was good but sometimes the service was slow ( they cater for quite a number of large weddings which seems to effect the quality of service to guests on those days).

We upgraded to a room with balcony and sea view which was expensive and well worth the extra money.

There is plenty to see and do in the area particularly if you do not want to lay around the pool or swimming platforms all day. We preferred our visit to Herculaneum on the train as it was less frenetic than the Pompeii visit on an organised coach trip. The drive down the Amalfi coast is a must but only if someone else does the driving as it was quite hairy - the coach drivers were wonderful negotiating the narrow roads and tight bends.

Boat trip to Capri was very easy and the designer shops in Capri Town beautiful but extremely expensive. The weather was brilliant and the holiday a great success.

We would certainly have no hesitation in recommending this hotel - several guests seemed to be on repeat visits.

" Spent a wonderful two weeks at the... "

Spent a wonderful two weeks at the Grand Hotel Amabsciatori in June 2006.

The hotel is beautifully maintained and the staff are very efficient. Room was spacious and cool, upgrade to a side sea view room if you can.

Views over the Bay of Naples from the dining room and terrace are spectacular. The food was delicious - plentiful breakfasts and full waiter service in the evening, with several choices for each course.

Desserts are to die for (prepare to put on a few pounds)! Lunches in the poolside bar are also good (especially the pizza) but watch out for the drinks prices.

Pool area is well maintained, or you can take the lift down to the hotel's own bathing platforms by the sea. Deckchairs and parasols are free, but you have to pay for sunbeds.

The hotel is about 10mins walk into Sorrento which is lovely to wander around in the evening. Lots of shops, bars and restaurants in case you fancy a change.

With regard to excursions, Sorrento is a great base for exploring the area.

The Amalfi drive coach trip is a must. Other trips can be undertaken alone - catch the ferry over to Capri, or Naples if you fancy experiencing a bustling city.

You can also catch the train to Pompeii, much better then going on a coach and it means you can go later in the afternoon when it's cooler and the crowds have died down.

Another tip: if your budget can stretch, try to stay the night in Capri, you get a much better experience after the thousands of day trippers have left. It's not cheap, although we managed to find a small B&B (Hotel La Tosca) for about £80 a night.

Make sure you take the bus to Anacapri and take the chairlift to the top of Montesolar, the views are amazing. Slightly more expensive than the buses are the open-topped taxis, also a great experience.

Overall - yes, we spent more than we usually would on a Summer holiday, but it was worth every penny!

" I stayed at this hotel in September,... "

I stayed at this hotel in September, only for three days as I could get no more time off work but was there for my mums wedding.

I would definitely love to have stayed longer. The hotel itself, the food, the service and facilities were excellent. I had never been to a five star hotel before and was absolutely amazed by everything I experienced. Our room was perfect with a breathtaking view over the Sorrento coastline.

The food every night was extremely varied and very professionally presented, my mum and partner are vegetarian and there was also a fantastic selection of food options for them. The service was second to none and the views from the pool and chill out seating areas were fantastic.
One night food was served outside on the terrace and the spread put on was fantastic and you could always have more of anything.

Varied entertainment was put on, on selected nights which was a lovely setting around the pool area.

In all my mums wedding was perfect - very much helped by the excellent choice of hotel, she stayed for two weeks and has already booked to go back next year - a beautiful hotel and experience.

" I’ve just had a fantastic stay in... "

I’ve just had a fantastic stay in Sorrento. The hotel was located up in the hills with stunning views over the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius.

The hotel had great amenities including a pool and deck area, as well as a restaurant that provided delicious food. The hotel had a shuttle bus into the town centre, which was only 10 minutes away. This was a convenient point from which to do our tours as it was near the coach stop, the train and the port area. We used public transportation to go along the Alamfi Coast, which has to be one of the most stunning drives in the world- if a little hair-raising.

The bus was jam-packed and just when you thought there was no more room, more people would squash on!! We got off at Positano and went down the small winding paths towards the beach. This truly was a beautiful place. We then went to Amalfi but I found this to be a bit touristy. Our other trips included going to Pompeii as well as Vesuvius. One day we decided to take the ferry to Capri, which we enjoyed very much.

The weather was lovely and we must have travelled on every form of transport as we took a Funicular when we got there. We then went higher up the mountain by bus to Anacapri. This was less crowded and we visited villa San Michele which was the former home of Dr Axel Munthe.

This was absolutely beautiful and provided glorious views over the bay. In all I had a fantastic time and would recommend this holiday to everyone.
