We have just returned from our holidays having spent 10 days at the Hotel Capodimonte. What a fantastic hotel this was. Ideally situated and close to all the amnenities but not too close for comfort. Aprox 4 min walk to the hub of things. The hotel staff were friendly,... more

We went to the hotel capodimonte on our honeymoon in 2005. It was wonderful. My family is from nearby and I have visited sorrento since I was a baby, however this was the best hotel ever. Even better than the Excelcior Vittoria. Great room, food - great (but restuarants are... more

I cannot believe that anyone could possibly give this hotel a rating of three out of ten. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms fantastic, apparently they had an extensive refurb the year before. However, we did pay extra for the full sea view and were very glad we did, the... more

The staff and the service was extremely poor, the food not very good although we were half board we ate only 3 times there preferring to go down into town to eat. The only meals we had that were anything like you should have expected were breakfast (even they could not... more

The reviewer who gave this hotel a rating of 3/10 must have got their hotels muddled up. They do not offer all inclusive, not suitable for students so they don't stay here, fabulous service. This is such a great hotel we are going back this year. Beautiful grounds, pool... more

This is positively the worst hotel I have been to. The service was extremely poor and the staff were incompetent. My family and I waited 2 hours until our rooms were ready and when we arrived the beds had not been made and the bathrooms were full of pubic hairs. My... more

Having previously visited Sorrento for a holiday, this year we returned to get married in the beautiful Cloisters in the town. The whole experience was wonderful. The Grand Hotel Capodimonte was fabulous and every wish catered for. All the staff were friendly, polite and... more

Fantastic holiday with the most fantastically decorated hotel built into the rock. Weather was fantastic which brought out all the tourists into the street cafes and restaurants. A little too quiet for my age group but really relaxing. A perfect holiday. The scenery of the... more

A special place
We honeymooned here a couple of years ago, and maybe it was just because we were still on a high from the wedding, but we found it the most romantic hotel we've been to. Our room itself wasn't anything to write home about, but it was clean and comfortable and perfectly good enough. We found the staff to be extremely helpful and friendly, and couldn't fault them, particularly if you make the effort to try speaking a little Italian. The highlight of our day was getting dressed up and coming to dinner, where the setting and the waiters make you feel really special. The food itself was to die for - even my husband agreed, and he's a real food snob! In fact, after a 2-day trip to Rome, we rushed back so we could be in time for dinner, and we're still mourning the loss of the previous night's when we were in Rome! The pools are lovely, although a little crowded. I must admit, it is too much to expect you to pay to use a sunbed in your own hotel, but such is life. We just used the deck-chairs instead (which are free!)! The views from the hotel over the rest of Sorrento and the Bay of Naples are just amazing. We spent many a happy evening sitting on the terrace, looking out at the view. The musical entertainment is a little cheesy, but it kind of adds to the atmosphere! Location-wise, the hotel is perfect. It's just at one end of Sorrento where you can easily walk to the bars, shops and restaurants, and the train station is a 10/15 minute walk away. There's a shop practically over the road (which is a bit difficult to cross!), and a lovely walk along the cliff-edge in the opposite direction. We can't wait to go back, and would recommend it to anyone!
Fantastic!!!
Wonderful views whether of Bay or Lemon groves. Staff were very accommodating and food was fantastic. Single room a little small, but didn't spend much time in room anyway. I spent 3 nights with a pilgrimage tour group and had access to many churches and tours to Capri and Positano.
capodimonte,never again
My mum and I stayed at the Capodimonte for the past two weeks. And I say never again. The entrance Was very grand and shiny and promissing but once we got to our room things changed. Our room was in the old part of the hotel and had old furniture i.e.NOT antique. The balcony had stale old plastic furniture. The shower-head was clogged, and I had to ask 3 times to repair it. I couldn't plug in my hairdryer and when I asked for an adapter the receptionist said coldly that they didn't have any. We had to buy one ourselves. We had to pay 5 euro's a day to have a comfortable chair by the pool(WHAAAT??) The waiters in the restaurant were rude and creepy and looked down my cleavage. And I won't even talk about the food. Let's just say that we lost a few pounds when got back home! A lousy way to spend so much money!
Wonderful views
Just returned from a great time in Sorrento. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful but you have to be firm e.g insist on more towels and it was extremely hot so we asked if the airconditioning could be put on( normally in June) which was not a problem. Our room was on an upper floor with spectacular views of Vesuvius and the whole of Sorrento. The evenings can be quite noisy in the rooms if you have one facing the road but with the aircon on and the windows closed this is not a problem. The pools are great and we had no problem getting a sunbed. Breakfast was very nice with a large choice e.g fruit, bread, eggs, bacon. All in all a lovely place to stay
Poor value for money
Staying between 6th May to 20th May my partner and myself were originally using this hotel as part of our wedding package, but then decided to use it just for our honeymoon. We were put in room 824, apparently the newer part of the hotel, the room on entering smelt of stale smoke, of which the net curtain was the culprit. The beds were damp and we had to air them every night, even when the sheets were changed it wasn't long before the damp smell came back. The decor was stained headboards, stained chairs, and the light fittings to the side of the bed were hanging off. The towels were changed everyday even though we never asked them to, and the sheets twice a week. The bathroom wasn't cleaned properly in the 2 weeks we were there, just surface cleaned we think. There are two restaurants, we were told which one to go in and the staff apart from 2 were not very tourist friendly, filthy glasses on the table, lipstick being the culprit, and dishwasher stains. Knives that had obviously been used for hammers? Mostly clean corridors parts of the walls were clean but lots of damp patches around, very noisy at night as no carpets so slamming of doors and shouting regularly wake you up, we were awoken twice at 3 in the morning. pools checked regularly, but no poolside service. The food and beverages are expensive in the restaurant and snack bar, be careful to put aside your money or you'll be hit with a huge bill at the end. On the whole a nice hotel but not worth the 4 star plus it currently has, you get what you pay for and we didn't. If you like high prices, damp beds, interrupted sleep, dirty glasses, dented cutlery, then stay here. Hopefully you might get the other rooms that the other reviewers stayed in that were great.
Good choice
My wife and I were transferred here by our tour operator at the last minute after the Grand Hotel de la Ville had overbooked (Airtours - in case you'e interested). This being our honeymoon, we were a little annoyed at the last minute change to say the least; especially given the excellent reviews that the de la Ville had received from this very website. But I'm pleased to say that the Hotel Capodimonte turned out to be a very good transfer and we can assure people that this is a very good hotel to choose. By far the hotel's biggest asset is its location. Firstly it is set in a cliff face, giving it a myriad of corridors and levels to explore and if you're lucky enough to get a room a the front of the hotel, it's setting affords spectacular views across Sorrento, the bay of Naples and Vesuvius. However, as a wise reviewer has already pointed out; the idea of a holiday is not to sit in your room so if you do not get a sea view, you can make use of the same picturesque setting from the numerous terraces around the cascading pools as well as the bar or either of the two restaurants (which makes for a pleasant meal as the sun sets over the Bay). Secondly it is set back enough from the main road for the traffic not to be too audible, which given the Italians love of scooters and the relative location of most of the other hotels in the town, is a very big plus point. The reception, restaurants and bar are all very grand, smart and clean and makes for a a very agreeable atmosphere even if the 'grandness' has more of a sixties feel than that of a more contemporary style. The rooms are smart and clean, but don't expect much more from them. Additionally, the food may not be al la carte, but the choice is always very good and you would be hard pushed to find better in the plethora of tourist orientated eateries in Sorrento (unless of course you have plenty of spare cash to eat in the 'local's retreats in the surrounding hillside!). In this context, the hotel's rating may not match that of other 4 star hotels in parts of Europe or America but its charm and setting more than makes up for what it lacks in depth of quality. All the staff are nearly always pleasant and helpful, in particular the restaurant staff, but as is the Italian way, try not to take offence to their apparent indifference to any issues you have. They did not seem to be particularly interested in our noisy neighbours on one night (until 4am) or the fact that our maid had left our patio doors open all day while we were out (we were on the same level as the pool terrace!) but the problems were soon resolved. Overall, I would say that the Capodimonte is a very good hotel to choose and stands out from the majority of what Sorrento has to offer.
fantastico !!!
Second time we have stayed at the Capo, although have visted Sorrento many times. We had a fabulous restfull time as the Capodimonti is ideally positioned, quieter(road noise) than other 5 star hotels,( we find the drag up the hill to the Sorrento Palace (Hilton) now too much after a hard day and night enjoying ourselves) food is excellent, restaurant staff excellent ,reception staff very polite and helpfull(reading one of the reviews about the manager being rude suprising perhaps you get what you deserve!)we also had probably the best room in the hotel overlooking the bay and town we didnt pay extra either for it, the room was bright quiet and very very clean. Just one gripe when we stayed two years ago at the beginning of April we had a weekly gala dinner and a weekly music duo for dancing/listeneing. This year although later there was nothing . had to ask the bar staff who looked bored to put the hotel radio on,more guests would have used the bar which is gorgeous if you didnt have to sit listening to other peoples conversations. It nice to relax after a postdinner stroll with a drink but it was so strange to sit in an almost (and sometimes it was empty) empty bar. There was no indication in the brochure that the entertainment wouldnt start till May.Overall though great holiday and great hotel. not quite sure it is 5 star but who cares? enjoy it!
fantastic hotel
Just returned from this hotel over the Easter break. Booked this hotel independently. Superb. The hotel is fantastic and the rooms are beautifully decorated. The location is also ideal. Breakfast was of an excellent standard. The hotel was so quiet and peaceful. A good standard 4* and would definitely go back.
Horrific Experience
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon. We switched room 3 times reasons being the first room smelt of smoke and we are both non-smokers, 2nd room had damp patches all over the walls and the bed, bedding, clothes etc we saturated with dampness. The room was horrific and we received no apology - the manager was aggressive and unsympathetic. Food was not great and definetely caters for an older generation - terribly expensive to buy drinks, food by the pool. This hotel may have been 5 star in its orignal days but needs a lot of upgrading now.
Fantastic hotel
This hotel was recommended to us by a number of other guests when staying in the Italian Lakes. Looking at some of the other reviews I can only think that these people have not travelled/stayed in Italy often. Hotel rooms in Italy tend to be fairly basic, if you travel to Carribean/America you may be quite disappointed by the standard of accomodation. The Capodimonte is immaculate and well maintained, the public areas (reception/bar/restaurants) are very grand and impressive. The bedrooms are fairly basic but clean, this would not affect my review of the hotel as I can find better things to do on holiday than sit in my bedroom. But it is worth paying the additional £9 per night for a sea view room. The pool area can get over crowded in high season, but doesn't every hotel. The view from the top pool is completely amazing - you over look the bay of naples and can see vesuvious in the distance. The staff are all extremely polite and helpful, in particular the restaurant team. We have stayed at the Capodimonte twice now and have met other guests who keep returning - some for 20 years+. Many people book for the following year before they leave, in order to retain same room and to avoid disappointment. We tried to book in August for the following June and it was already full. Perfect for wedding, honeymoon or other special holiday. Would go back every year if we could afford to.
