We have stayed at the Bellevue San Lorenzo five times in the last ten years, and next week are going for our sixth visit, I think this speaks for itself. We used to travel with Citalia, but now we book it directly, and save approx. £600 on a weeks holiday. The... more

Out of this world!!! We spent our honeymoon here and it was absolutely fabulous - we could not fault a thing. We had an amazing view of the lake (which changes on an hourly basis) from our large balcony, the room was extremely clean, we had a fully stocked mini bar,... more

This hotel was advertised as a four star hotel but it was anything but. We had to share our balcony we next door room and they could come right to our balcony door, which was not secure. The walls were so thin we could hear their conversations and toilet flushing. The room... more

Fabulous hotel. The staff were most friendly and efficient. We had a room with a terrace overlooking the lake. The food was out of this world, and the wine...! The area is beautiful, stunning views everywhere you look, and very clean. One criticism...the hotel has no... more

Overall loved the Bellevue San Lorenzo
We recently returned from this hotel. The setting is exquisite and just the right walking distance from town. The gardens, pool and wellness centre are all excellent. Our room (in the garden annex at the front of the hotel) was a little disapointing. While clean, it was very dated and had seen better days. It also had no balcony. One note of caution and some advice. The steps to the lakeside are steep. poor quality and not lit at night and you have to take your life in your hands to cross the road to get to the steps. Not for the fainthearted or disabled. When going to the lake or town we instead chose to walk down the main road a short distance towards town (there is a narrow pavement) and the cross at the first zebra crossing. Here you will find a much easier and better quality path down to the lake. One of the best things about the hotel was the food in the evening - great service, good variety and great price.
Fabulous Hotel in Malcesine
We visited Malcesine for my sisters wedding in July 07 and were delighted with the whole holiday. The breathtaking scenery from our suite at the San Lorenzo Bellevue Hotel was fantastic - easily matching the beauty of Switzerland and Austria. The room was very clean, well decorated and seemed like new, however, some of our friends who stayed with us said their rooms were very basic (I think we fell lucky)! We stayed with our two children (5 & 7 yrs) and although the restaurant was generally excellent and the food varied, the menu was not very "child-friendly" - our children are too young to appreciate 4-course evening meals and adult portions. The pool area and wellness centre were first class, and the various elevated sunbathing areas around the beautiful gardens were a lovely touch. The 96 steps from the hotel to the lakeside were steep and difficult to climb but were worth the effort - it was also safer than walking along the roadside to get into Malcesine! Communication with staff was sometimes awkward and seemed to be more geared towards German visitors but in all we had a fabulous time in a fabulous hotel.
Gorgeous
We Loved our stay in bellevue san lorenzo, we had a junior suite in the gardens, it wasnt part of the main hotel divided into three segments but we loved this room, there was only one other above us so it was like a little garden villa. The decor was gorgeous big and comfortable bed, I suffer with back pain so this was important and I had great nights sleep here. The views were stunning from our balcony there was a large three directly outside and some of the branches swayed and partially blocked a full panaramic view but I loved this and only found it added to the beauty. The bathroom was lovely marble and glass with walk in shower and separate jacuzzi bathtube. The whole room was modern style which we loved two leather chairs, table with flat screen tv (never even turned on couldnt with the views outside) tall standing lamps and lovely little terrace to front with chairs table and then to the side through patio doors another terrace with chairs and table. Very large and beautiful wooden floors. The main part of the hotel is older and more in keeping with period of the house some of the rooms which we saw were carpet and we much preferred our room. The main hotel also as its a listed building cannot put in air conditioning into rooms however the suite in the main building does have air con but that is the only room that has. Both room 315 / 316 have air con, as does the terrace rooms (large terrace in red maroon coloured building with full views lake wellness center below these). The weather was beautiful and we were blessed with sunshine for the whole week we were there and we did use the air con which was welcome addition (last week june). The only point I would deduct as I loved this hotel is the location to get to the lake promonade you had to cross a busy road and this I felt wouldnt be suitable for someone with walking difficulties or possibly children. However when you did walk down the steps the walk along the lake to the town was beautiful and we loved it far from being an inconvenice we felt it was a bonus not to be in the center of the town as the views from our hotel and even the gardens of the hotel itself compared to none other we saw. The pool was lovely also with fab views across lake and no problems with sun loungers etc. The gardens around the hotel immaculately kept and maintained. The food was lovely Im vegetarian and they had separate veg menu which was really nice. Husband ate from main menu and had no complaints. We travelled from venice to hear and had no problems with transfer etc although taxis were hard to come by and had to be ordered. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend this hotel and we will be back next year... enjoy
lovely, lovely lake garda
We stayed for a week in June. Despite thundery weather, we had a marvellous time. The hotel is beautiful but we were in a room with no balcony or views and close to the kitchen grills and as the rooms are not air conditioned it was very, very stuffy all the time which made sleeping difficult. The only other downsides are that there is no courtesy bus and the 100 or so steps up to the hotel from the lakeside are a killer on your return from town, also be aware that you cannot settle your bill with a credit card so have enough cash for that on your last day. I only say all this as advice, the hotel and grounds are beautiful, the staff are lovely and very attentive and we met some delightful guests. The food is delicious, a different four course menu every night. However, I would like to apologise for the very rude man that I overheard checking in on our last morning who did not want to hand over his passport, made you quite ashamed to be British. The sooner we stop trying to tell people what to do in their own country, the better!
lovely hotel
This is a really nice little boutique style hotel, The grounds were really nice with amazing views over the lake with well looked after gardens and a nice liitle bar and restaurant with terraces, There is also a nice swimming pool with again superb views looking over to the lake.. Its about 15 to 20 mins stroll in to town but to get to the lake path its down some very steep steps so any one with walking problems may have a problem here.. but once down the steps its a really nice walk along the lake in to the town.. Nice clean rooms perfect hotel for a short stay or special occasion.....
Relaxing Atmosphere
The hotel is in a beautiful setting with a view of the lake and surrounded by gardens with sculptures. In the midst of the grounds is a lovely infinity pool. We had a large suite with views of the lake and Malcesine, but no air conditioning - and it was very hot and humid. The food varied between mostly delicious and occasionally not so great, but the staff were very attentive and we were offered alternatives. Its a steep walk down to the lake, but very pleasant to walk into Malcesine on the lakeside path. Altogether it was an idyllic place because of the beauty of the setting and the very relaxing atmosphere.
Excellent place to stay
The hotel is situated 20 minutes walk from Melcesine, but it's a very pleasant walk along a promenade. The hotel is worth it's **** rating. The rooms are of a good size and kept clean and tidy. Be careful with the rooms with a side lake view, some don't have that good a view and this was the only negative point I can think of. The hotel has lovely gardens and the views of the lake and mountains are superb. The facilities are generally good with a sauna, steam room, jaccuzi and small gym in a 'wellness' centre. The outside pool and sun beds are nicely situated. The staff are very professional and helpful. However, the restaurant was tremendous; a choice of dishes that changed every evening, the food was beautiful and the waiters pleasant and helpful. Melcesine is a lovely town with good ferry connections around Lake Garda. I would return for another stay.
Magnificent pool and views
The room was clean and the view from the balcony was breathtaking. The pool is spotless and the view from the pool is magnificent. The steps down to the waterfront are steep and there are over 100 of them, this did not cause us a problem, but is a consideration for some. The walk into Malcesine itself takes around 20 minutes, which we found very relaxing. The health club is a great feature, make sure you take a look. The reception staff are really helpful and we could not fault them at all. Our only slight criticism is that we found the restaurant and bar staff to be indifferent at best, but this did not affect our overall stay, their attitudes could be improved, however.
Excellent hotel
We stayed a week here in September and found the hotel to be excellent. We booked direct from the hotel's website and the room we were given was super. We had a balcony with full lake view. The views all around the hotel are simply spectacular. If you walk down to the road you will also discover some steps (steep) just across the road which takes you right down to the lakeside and a 20min stoll on a traffic free path gets you into Malcesine. This has to be one of the most pleasant walks you can make - very de-stressing and a great resort. We had half board and the meals were excellent. The staff were also very attentive and polite. I can't find fault with this place and would certainly stay there again.
Great Views, but...
I quite agree with all the comments about the outstanding views from the hotel, but there were two things that disappointed me. Firstly, I expected aircon in the rooms at this price. Our daughters' room, on the top floor, did not have aircon. This meant they had to use a fan and keep the windor open, (the temperatures were up to 37 degrees) so they both got bitten by mosquitoes despite our best efforts with mossie killers. Secondly, the main road. It runs just beneath the hotel and I found the noise very intrusive. We live deep in the country and so are possibly over-sensitive to such things, but do beware, you do hear the traffic from the undeniably beautiful pool and from the balconies of the rooms The food was ok but I did not find the management very good. I could not really work out who was in charge. They insisted on €10 to use the internet, which didn't work. When I went back to the counter to query this I was told it often didn't work. When I asked why I had been charged €10 for something that didn't work, the only response was to say I could have my money back. Slightly lacking in charm I thought. By the way, you have to park at the bottom of the hill and walk up to the hotel. In 37 degrees with a load of shopping that is not great fun. I f you park in the small area at the top and do not move your car, you get a note on the windscreen. The are not that many loungers around the pool and they do get bagged early by the mainly German clientele. No effort is made to stop this practice. On one day the four loungers in prime position lay bagged and unused until 4.00pm. Irritating.
