Simply the best!
from shugspice
We stayed at the hotel Sol Menorca during July 2006, as part of the Thomson Half Board Selection deal in the Pricebreakers brochure and we can honestly say that we ended up with the best hotel we could possibly have wished for. It was perfect for couples, quiet during the day and the evening, but with unintrusive entertainment in the evening provided if desired. Many Spanish people stayed at Sol Menorca, which we took to be a good sign of the hotel's quality. The hotel was not too large yet had a good atmosphere and good facilities. We particularly enjoyed the pool and gardens, which were never too crowded or noisy, even during the 'peak' hours. We had a double room was on the second floor with an excellent sea view. The room was comfortable with a free fridge and safety deposit box. The room and bathroom were spotlessly cleaned every day by the staff, who were always friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel was perfect, in the peaceful resort of Santo Tomas between two long, sandy beaches with excellent swimming in the crystal clear waters. The resort is perfect for relaxing but we would recommend hiring a car if you wish to explore the island, as we did ourselves. The only downpoint was nothing to do with the hotel itself, but instead it was the rep service we received from the holiday company that slightly let it down. Overall, if you are a couple, young or old, looking to escape the noise and crowds of larger hotels and resorts - look no further.
Very relaxing holiday

I stayed at the Sol from Aug 16-23 2006. My girlfriend and I (both early 30s) were out for a relaxing week in the sun and certainly got what we wanted. We stayed mostly by the pool, making regular trips to the beach for snorkelling. Some have mentioned the pool being cold, I just found it refreshing. Inflatables weren't allowed which kept most of the childen away. We had a couple of days of cloud and really rough seas (red flags flying) but apart from that the weather and beaches were great. We walked along the sea front to Son Bou which had a bit more going on and there are plenty of secluded beach spots along the way (many with naturists making the most of the relative quietness!). Thought the food was great, lots of choice and although busy the service was fine. Wasn't that interested in the evening entertainment and there rarely seemed to be enough outside seating for everyone. Rooms were clean, cool and quiet and there were very few children around (a bonus as I teach and get enough of them the rest of the year!). If you want lots going on and activities for children then maybe this isn't for you but I'd definitely consider going back.
4*???
from MrsBlick
stayed at the sol menorca late sept/early oct. (having checked hotel reviews and found them quite positive). the hotel itself is not bad, rooms were clean etc., things a bit dated but ok. the restaurant however is another story. food repetitive, badly cooked, cold and extremely unimaginative. veg were soggy, pork produced every night along with fish and the inevitable chips. the veg and chips which weren't used at dinner were produced for breakfast! this sort of food we have found in other spanish hotels but not of a supposedly 4* standard. we found public transport ok, but apparently only because while we were there the season was coming to a close and they weren't too busy, there are only 3 buses per day to the capitols.
relaxing week

A little gem of a hotel. never stayed anywhere so clean.staff in all departments very helpful. Excellent rooms with fridge and safe included. Food excecellent,If you could't fine something to eat and enjoy at dinner then you would have to be a very fussy eater.2 lovely beaches either side of hotel if you did not want to stay by pool. As other reviewers and some of the tour company brochures have indicated this hotel is not really for guests with children. But, For couples of any age looking for a relaxing "Chill out" week then highly reccomended.
SUPERB !
from Andy58
My partner and I have just returned from a 7 night holiday at the Sol Menorca (27th Sep to 4th Oct 06). I can only say one thing, SUPERB ! The hotel is in a great location and in a very nice and relaxed setting right on the beach. From the first step inside we were greeted with splendour and a lovely, clean and fresh smell. The room was very good (bed a bit hard tho) with a free safe, mini fridge to put your own shop bought drinks in, balcony etc. We booked last minute so although had a good Sea view were above the kitchen area. However the only problem with that was the noise from the extractor fan coming on early in the morning and at Dinner Time (not surprised tho as it must have been very hot for staff ,circa 30c outside !) There was an Army of cleaning staff working from early hours until late at night and they did a brilliant job, the hotel was immaculate. Plenty of choice at Meal times, dinner time starting at 6.30 until 9.30-10pm (buffet style). As the guests were mainly elderly people who like to eat early it was busy bang on opening time for a while so we had a drink first sat outside watching the lovely sun set over Majorca in the distance. I would disagree with a recent review regarding Staff etc in the Dining room, they were excellent and never stopped and were very polite, happy and attentive (put our own kind to shame under so much pressure) We really enjoyed this hotel and location, a treat not to be fronted with the 'Yob Element'. The island is lovely and sedate and would reccomend a hire car. The roads are in better condition than ours and we encountered hardly any traffic. Would reccomend trawling the internet to find good deals. We paid £400 for 2 on Half Board and £188 for 2 for flights, excelent value for 4* accom (just need to buy bigger trousers tho as I indulged a little too much at the buffet as you can eat as much as you like, typical Yorkshire Man ! ) A MUST GO TO HOTEL :-)
Fantastic

Sol Menorca Hotel. Stayed there from the 20th September to the 27th september. We arrived at 11.30pm and was ready to go to our room but on arrival we were greeted by very friendly staff and was told that there was a cold buffet ready for us in the dining room. The meals were excellent with a lot of choice at breakfast and evening meal. The beach is just yards away from the hotel, there are two supermarkets with a good variety at reasonable prices, doctors and a pharmacy. The promenade stretches the full length of Santa Tomas which is relatively flat with excellent views. If you want a quiet, no hassle, relaxing holiday this is the place to go, the facilities were excellent with pool, sun decks and chill out areas. There weren't many children at the hotel it was mainly older couples aged from about 30 to 80yrs but a really good atmosphere. Would recommend this hotel, so much so we have booked again for next year.
Excellent Hotel

I have just returned from a lovely relaxing holiday at the Sol Elite Hotel Santo Tomas travelling with my husband and 22 year old Son. Santo Tomas had been recommended to us by someone who lives locally and we were not dissapointed, what a lovely place very quiet, very few shops but everything that you need around you. Travelling to the capital Mahon is only a 30min bus ride away and also Cuitadella about the same .Unfortunatelly we are non drivers but if you hire a car there is lots to see within easy reach. The Hotel was excellent very spacious and tastefully decorated and also very immaculate with ramps for wheelchairs. The grounds were also very nice with a swimming pool and snack bar near by. We got on so well with the staff they were so polite and helpful nothing was too much trouble. Most bedrooms had views of the sea with a wonderful sunset in the evening. We met a couple who were returning to the Hotel for their 17th year which I think speaks for itself. This is a place for people who want a quiet away from it all holiday not for the young wanting a good night life. We can't wait to book for next year. The Booth Family Herefordshire
Don't Like Half Board
from JaneHoops
Went Half Board for the first and i will say last time. Plenty of choice of food, but i felt it was like a bun fight and you didn't have a clue what was going on where. Too many chips. I ended up one night having pork, chicken, gravy and cole slaw - it was the mexican night and I don't like mexican. Food wasn't hot and yes vegetables very soggy. But it was the service that let it down, there wasn't a lot of it, the waiters helpers - as they are called, are rushed off their feet, there are just not enough of them. So consequently you wander in to the restaurant in the vain hope of finding a clean table. You eventually get one, then you have to wait a long time for the waiter to take your order for wine. The actually waiters (only two of them), were not over friendly. Also disappointed in not being able to sit outside for either breakfast or dinner - not quite sure why, i thought that was the whole point of being abroad. The friendliest person in the Hotel was the maid - Cristina, lovely girl. Couldn't speak a word of English - but we have fun every day withour sign language communicating. We won't go back again. Other people said it had gone downhill this year. Location is stunning though - right on the seafront with wonderful views of the sea. People were claiming sun beds at 7.45 in the morning, but we were at a loss to understand why, there was always plenty of sun beds to go around and also sun parasols. Pool however was freezing!!!! Obvously relies on the sun to be heated, so we only have one brief swim. Super resort to watch the sunset. We ended up eating out just to sit outside and enjoy good old fashioned service which the Spanish are normally so good at! Good choice of beaches, very quiet but we liked that. There is also a good choice of restaurants, so we would have enjoyed the resort more if we had stayed somewhere like the Vistamar Apartments, which we next door with the same view. Nice promenade along the front.
What a Fantastic Hotel!

Just got back today from a week at the Sol Menorca Hotel...what a great time me and my partner had! If you are after a quiet, relaxing holiday...then look no further...this is the place for you! Except for a handful of shops, bars and restaurants, including a chinese, there is not alot to do in the town of Santo Tomas. But the views are lovely, especially the one we had from our balcony...which overlooked the pool and the sea. It is only a 5 minute walk to the beach (if that), but beware of the nudists! The rooms are spotlessly clean and attended to daily. There is air conditioning and a ceiling fan. There is also a fridge and a safe, both were found to be very useful. The choice of food you have at breakfast and dinner (evening meal) is wonderful...something for everyone and it is not the same thing every night! Snacks are also available in the daytime too. Entertainment was provided every night, except Sunday, and was always varied and a laugh. All in all, we could not fault this holiday and we will definately return in the near future.
Sol Elite for Families?
from Chui-Ling
Arrived back today from a week at the Sol Elite, Menorca. I travelled with my husband, 2 boys aged 6 and 8 and my Father. Impressed with room sizes and cleanliness. Staff were very accomodating as I'd requested two weeks before our trip for adjoining rooms and for my Father's single room to be on the same floor and close to our bedroom which it was. Fridge provided which was useful to store bottled water (tap water too high in minerals too drink safely). Beach towels cost an euro a day plus 10 euro deposit. Two beaches either side of hotel - not too spectacular and could get quite crowded but fine for our two boys who also loved snorkelling in the shallow waters. We hired a car for 3 days (definitely worth doing) and found some gorgeous beaches whilist exploring the island. Hotel food was fine - after a week we'd had enough and were quite bored - menu does not vary much day to day. Staff are pleasant and courteous. Hotel does not offer much for children. Evening entertainment did not start until 9.45-10pm which was much too late for our children - a shame as there was nothing else for them at the hotel apart from a couple of game machines and pool tables. Also swimming pool is not heated and felt cold (depth upto three and half metres). All in all, would recommend it to quiet couples, young and old. Not sure if I'd return with the kids but perhaps when my husband and I have retired!
