Is 5 nights enough time to see the sights of Vegas? We thought so but were probably a couple of days out in the end.
If you’ve never been before then what you’ll have seen of Vegas from TV and films just doesn’t get across the vast scale of the main hotels on the strip. Someone told us that 8 out of 10 of the largest hotels in America are in Vegas and boy can I believe It.
Thought to be one of the most luxuriant is the Bellagio. Quite understated from the outside it’s not quite as 'themed' as some of the other hotels. It’s famous for the lake at the front which has a spectacular fountain display to music (on the half hour from 3p.m. - 7p.m. and every 15 minutes from 7p.m. - 12p.m.). The music and display change throughout the day which keeps people coming back and indeed there are people surrounding the lake for every show.
Inside the hotel is indeed luxuriant. The rooms are large, well equipped and stylish. I don’t think you’ll get the personal touch at any of the main hotels in Vegas, they’re just too big, but the service that we got from maids, porters etc was excellent. All parking is free whether you decide to park the car yourself in the multi-story or whether you decide for the Valet option.
Food in the Bellagio was excellent with at least five different restaurants. Be aware that vegetarians are not well catered for though. The main restaurants will have one vegetarian choice at most. The best option we found was the buffet. Excellent value and a fantastic selection for meat eaters and vegetarians alike.
When you can drag yourself away from the gaming tables or slots, there’s also a wealth of other entertainment available. We went to see O - Cirque Du Soleil at the Bellagio, which had to be seen to be believed. There are two other Cirque Du Soleil productions in Vegas at the moment in other hotels and I’m sure they’re just as spectacular (and probably equally as expensive). Musicals seem to be popular at the moment and playing at the Paris is Ben Elton’s We Will Rock You and at the Mandalay Bay the Abba production Mama Mia.
Days can be spent wandering up and down the strip going in all the other hotels. If you’re a fan of shopping then each hotel has it’s own shopping arcade (there are also some outlet mall’s a couple of miles from the strip, although the best one is 40 miles south of Vegas on highway 15).
We’ll definitely have to go back to see Vegas in more detail and the other hotels that we’d like to stay in, having been in most of the big ones are either Caesars Palace or the Venetian.
Vegas, it’s a crazy playground for adults and you don’t have to be into gambling to get enjoyment out of the place. It just has to be experienced at some point.

After recommendations from many friends and family members, I finally decided it was time to take my gambling addiction out across the Atlantic to Vegas.
From all the hype I had heard about the Bellagio I was instantly disappointed as it wasn't so grand after all. There seemed to be a funny smell about the place and I wasn't greeted with a smile on the way in.
The staff seemed to be a bit self important and refused to help me when I couldn't find the lift. That said, the room was brilliant.
Overall disappointing, but a nice place.
