Basic but more than servcieable with an amazing location
8 / 10
Jul 2009, Miss W

I have just returned from a 1 weeks stay at Las Palomas Apartments with my sister and mum. When we arrived we realsied that a number of apartments on the higher floors in one area had been badly damaged by fire. Fearing the worst we reported to the concerge (little green door next to the bar) and spoke to the concerge who gave us our keys and the remote for the air conditioner in our room. He was very polite and helpful. When we reached the room and opened the curtains we were immediately stunned by the amazing view (for reference 8th floor means you get a gorgeous sea view as oposed to the hotel oposite). Every morning I'd wake up, take a look out of the window, go and stand on teh balcony and pinch myself that I was actually there and getting that amazing view to wake up to every day.
The air conditioner was a god send and very good. The bathroom was small but functional and the towels were changed once while we were there. The kitchen was tiny but again functional although I was a little thrown by the lack of an oven or grill until my sister pointed out that the microwave was a convection oven. Certain utensils were missing but we managed. When we realised that the toaster supplied didn't work the concerge arranged for it to be replaced within a day. The room didn't have a tv or many coat hangers but we were hardly expecting these. The room next door was occupied by 3 young men who went out every night and came back making plenty of noise at about 6am each morning but they were only up for about half an hour and didn't cause too much distruption.
The pool area was very tidy and the cost of loungers and parrasols was very reasonable I thought. My sister and I ended up paying 10.50 euros for 2 loungers and a parasol on the beach versus 2 euros for these at the pool. The location of this hotel more than made up for it's lack of luxuries. It was less than a 3 minute walk to the beach and local restaurants and bars but wasn't too noisy.
The buses in the area were frequent and cheap and thankfully air conditioned. And the only taxi we used was cheap enough. I would strongly recommend the Pirate show at Magaluf as it was the highlight of our holiday and a short bus ride into Palma allows you to explore the Cathedral, shops and museums etc.
I'd recommend a visit to magaluf during the day to have a look around and they do offer verty good value nights out. When we went there were offers for 30 euros all inclusive nights allowing access and free drinks in 3 clubs with various entertainments including, foam parties, laser shows etc. my sister and I ended up staying in Palma Nova for nights out however, as we preferred something a little quieter and for cheap drinks and a friendly atmosphere I'd recommend Cheeks and Banana Joes both of which are on the doorstep of this hotel.
All in all, it was a lovely holiday and we will definatley be going again and staying at the same hotel.

Aug 2008, Mr R Shanley

Oh, to have the option of scoring the apartment 0.
After a heavy first night on the beer, I had a horrible dream that a troupe of devil worshipping clown donkeys were stamping on my head whilst my old headmaster sang 'rule britannia' to me (wearing a thong and tights). Imagine my dismay, however, to jerk awake and realise that being in my room concious was in fact worse than the freudian nightmares that had plagued me to that point.
Honestly - try as I might I don't have the words to adequately describe how awful this place is. Previous respondents have noted the sea views and cutlery - a small consolation for the waste of wonga I committed in booking seven nights here.
Don't bother complaining however, as the 'reception' (oft confused with the 'cleaners cupboard') is rarely staffed. Even when staffed, the staff simply don't give a monkeys. Pity the poor souls who live (yes - they actually LIVE) here.
Of particular note was the dodgy and dangerous looking wiring (exposed power points with no accompanying socket at floor level - dangerous when leaving the shower), the DIY bidet (yup - it had a bidet. or rather a tap amateurishly shackled to the toilet bowl) and the fact that I too suffered the indignity of booking a room for three and getting a room for two.
And don't bother with the pool - trust me, you're simply not carrying enough two euro coins. If you were, your trunks wouldn't still be up.
Locationally - perfect. But this by no means makes up for Fawlty Towers minus the comedy charm. In the slightly bastardised words of the late, great Hunter S. Thompson - "You musn't stay there - it's bat country". Lame.

where to start about these...

where to start about these 'apartments'.......
Like people have commented before there is no proper reception to these apartments just a broom cupboard located at the back of the bar
ok, 3 men sharing, only two doublish beds, the first of which was a sofa type thing barely suitable for a small child called Horhay and the other located in a 'seperate bedroom' what can only be described as 'The Cube' was around in the 70's.
'The Cube' - basically a stud wall with a sliding patio door, which when closed created an in room sauna, which may be seem by some as an additional benefit, but had no blinds and served no real purpose at all.
Bed sheets were changed once during the week but still didn't fit the mattress just sat on top of them

The kitchen looked ok but we didn't actually use this at all so can't really comment, the light in the kitchen did however prevent us from actually opening a couple of the cupboards, fridge/freezer worked fine and utensils were available.
The bathroom was however very poor, tiles were missing from the shower basin which filed within five minutes and then took 25 to empty and also spat up hair and other things from previous guests. Sitting on the toilet was near impossible as the hand basin was so close the flexibility of a gymnast was required, lessons as a small child came in very handy for this.
Towels were changed once during the week.
The balcony was actually quite safe, as after a good shove it didn't move at all, quite reassuring after inspection of the rest of the apartment. The floor however was covered in possibly astroturf/green grocers grass and not good on sunburnt feet.
The pool was actually ok, however sunbeds and parasols were an addition 2 euros each, what seemed to be a standard cost for everything around the apartment, parasols were actually limited to about four. Food and drink from else where was forbidden at the pool.
Positives about the apartment.... leaving!
They were actually really close to the beach and the sea view was good, the giant dog in the apartment below however wasn't.
Don't got here.....

Aug 2008, Miss T Mills

On arrival to the apartments we were given the key by the cleaner to a room on the 3rd floor. When we entered the room we discovered that it belonged to someone else!
We went back down to tell the manager (who had appeared) and he told us to wait while it was cleaned.
We demanded another room and was given a key to a room on the 6th floor. When we entered the room it was pretty manky - We went straight back down and the manager assured us it would be cleaned.
It was cleaned, but the rooms were well below standard. Lots of mosquitoes and the odd cockroach.
The apartments were very, very noisy with lots of comings and goings from midnight to 7 am.
The apartments are not suitable for families, couples who want a quiet holiday or older people. They are clearly just used by people who want to go to Magaluf for the night life and have no respect for other people who want a relaxing holiday.
Horrible place.

Well me and my boyfriend have just...

Jul 2008, Miss L Simpson

Well me and my boyfriend have just returned from our first holiday this year.We decided to go to Palma nova as we wasnt up for the partying life on holiday. We arrived at the appartments late at night and even the taxi driver didnt know where the hotel entrance was.We decided to walk down a back street to what we thought was the back of our apprts but it wasnt there was a scruffy little bar.The path what lead us to this was very dangerous as the roots from the tree's where growing through the concrete.
When we eventually found the entrace to our appartments we had to wait for a man who wasnt very friendly came and told my boyfriend to follow him(bearing in mind its was very dark). My boyfriend did so and the man lead him into what could only be a laundry room where they keep all the towels and beding. He then gave myboyfriend the keys and told us to follow him he lead us to the lift and pressed the 1st floor for us.When we arrived on the floor there was no light on the corridors and all we could see at he other end was some spanish what we found out on a later date they actually lived there flashing the lights on there phones. This wasnt very plesant for. When we eventually arrived in our room there was a fusty smell as we opended the door.We heard that the rooms where small but this was unbelievably tiny.We could move when in the kitchen or bath room.We was unable to have aircon that night as the manager ad the remotes to the units and was in bed.Thier was alot of mosquitos in the room and ants in the kitchen. We were lucky enough to have clean cups and plates. But as for the bedding this was radiculas. The bedding didnt get changed for the entire week we was there neither did the towels.I went to the what they call reception and asked for clean bedding and towels the manager told me that we wasnt allowed clean bedding. It would get changed once we have gone back home. This was a disgrace. We battled our way on but spent little time as possible in the room.We went on the beach everyday due to the fact we want paying to go in the pool.We didnt eat in the restaurant which was located at the side of the apartments as it looked filthy. The bottom of the appartments was used for a car park.Overall this did darken our holiday but we made the most of it. I would not advice any one to go there ever unless they knock them down and re-build again.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

I have just returned from a Las...

May 2008, Mr R.M Morris

I have just returned from a Las Palomas apts. They are in a good location, clean and well priced. If all you want is a place for sleeping and shower. They are NOT equiped with tv or radio to which i was surprised, but later found out I could rent these items and more with small deposit. (ask the guy at the pool!) I must point out I stayed here in low season (may) and even though the apts. were not near full capacity it was easy to hear neighbours from two rooms away so I can imagine in peak season it would be quite noisy!
The only serious problem I encountered was at the restaraunt attached to the apartments called "Rumbosol" served me and my girlfriend severly undercooked fish, I instantly pointed this out to the waiter and he took offence! So I obviously did not want to eat or pay for it but he insisted payment. So after a conversation with the manager who realised the fish was undercooked we left refunded but very disapointed.
In summary cheap, basic, clean, well located, but noisy and unequiped.
Note: There is no "lobby" so when you arrive, knock on a the small green door marked "Consierj" near the lifts.. I kidd you not!

Have just got back from staying at...

May 2008, Mr PF Fleming

Have just got back from staying at these apartments and i wish i never had went!
These apartments have to be the worse that i have stopped in my life, there was no receptionist to help you and when the guy did eventually appear he wasnt very friendly.
When we eventually got into our apartments they were small, filthy and full of mosquitoes. The bed mattress was hard and had urines stains. We had a day of rain which came through the ceiling and flooded the room. All in all this holiday was ruined by this hotel. I cant beleive any people have written any good reviews on this hotel.
Disgusted and will not be coming back!!

Had a fabulous holiday in the pocillos playa. hotel looks fantastic after its refurb!!Me and my wife got on really well with all the staff (who were very helpful) and guests. The food was great, good choice and varied. The resort of Puerto del Carmen is what you make it. Its fairly small but has some fabulous views and a nice selection of bars and restaurants.
Overall we has an excellent holiday and will definately recommend this hotel to anyone who's considering a good 4* hotel in Lanzarote.

Jan 2008, Mr S Landreth

I went with 2 mates September 2007. After mixed reactions on here, we were prepared for the worse.
It is pretty much "guess the door" to find the reception. Hint - go through the entrance and turn left at the car park ;-)
We were given a room on the top floor. It was basic but clean and tidy. There were no insects, etc. - and we too were suprised to find a fridge, and a few cups in a small kitchen.
I can confirm the air-con works without the remote control (unless they've changed it) and you need to empty the bucket down the toilet when it fills up.
I was suprised that the balcony had such a good view - but then we were on the top floor.
We had no problems with noise - though we don't think there were too many people here at that time of year. We spoke to a few familys by the pool but didn't really see any people our own age (early 20s).
I can imagine it being more raucus in the higher season (we'll find out this year!)
The bathroom was small - but the shower hot and fairly hard.
One thing - I booked at the last minute through laterooms.com and didn't find out until the day of departure that they hadn't charged my credit card - which led to a mad dash to the cashpoint to withdraw the bill in cash. Apparantly the credit card details were only took to secure the room - I don't know if this is the policy with every internet booking site - but don't let it catch you out if you're already late catching a taxi to the airport!!!

Well this was a getaway for myself...

Dec 2007, Mrs B DAVID

Well this was a getaway for myself and my daughter who is 16, when we arrived at the apts we struggled to obtain any communication or couldn't find anybody. No reception, just a door that a guy comes out of (not a happy chappy).
We were given our keys and asked if we would like to pay for air conditioning we said yes as it was very warm and we would like to sleep in the nights! Please do not pay for this, as you only have to turn the button on in the room and hey presto (on).
The towels were changed once in a week (not good) we didn't pay a lot for the apartment but you would expect it to be clean but perhaps not. Very basic accommodation ok for a quick getaway, but hey done spend your honeymoon there as you will be very disappointed.

When we booked this hotel I was...

Dec 2007, laspalomas

When we booked this hotel I was dubious as to what to expect but when we got there I realised that there was nothing to worry about.
We were hardly ever in our rooms and when we were what we needed was there - comfortable beds, a balcony with a beautiful view over the bay and of course fully equipped bathroom and kitchen.
The kitchen came with a toaster, kettle, microwave, fridge, sink and a washing machine, while the bathroom contained a clean shower, toilet and sink.
Both rooms (kitchen and bathroom are particularly small holding up to two people at a time) but when the room is holding only three this is hardly a problem.
The pool was clean and refreshing, there was hardly any distraction or noise and we were able to relax and had the opportunity to buy snacks, drinks and ice creams from the lifeguard on duty who went to the nearby restaurant that backed on to the hotel entrance.
The apartments are also flats to local residents, the landlord living on site and his house being the office were you collect your keys from. This is a basic room only hotel so if you were desperate for a hotel that provided entertainment and facilities I would recommend the Sol Hotel Companies.
