Illusion Boutique Hotel

This is not a 5 or four star hotel. Period. That said, it is a small, quaint place in the heart of the city with immediate access to 5th St. and beach. Rooms are VERY basic and lack many things furniture beyond a TV table and two nightstands. get a room that faces out rather than into the courtyard. The pool is not a pool as much as a very large "dipping pool" to sit and enjoy a drink. Nice view from terrace room but others CAN see into your room so beware paying more for this. We spent 5 nights at the Illusion, and thought it was a wonderful spot. We had made reservations at another hotel, and found out at the last minute that there was a booking mistake and no available rooms. The Illusion was available, and is actually in a more convenient spot than in , only 50 steps or so to Fifth Avenue and 75 steps to the beach. Well, I was there from the last week of January to the first of February, and even if I had to pay the full charge for a five star hotel there was no TV in my room (as in many others) and the view from the window was some horrible kind of constraction. The manager was really kind, but because his young age, only 22, he did not know more than me on how to manage a hotel!!! This brand new hotel delivered a great vacation as promised! Nice rooms, good service, great location (and ofcourse the amazing weather didn't hurt). The continental breakfast was a nice touch. A little pricey, but worth coming back too. Four well earned stars.

The hubby and myself stayed in mexico on the first week of march. Throughout our trip we stayed at many hotels, from the Fiesta Americana to the Illusion. Unquestionably in regards to service, the illusion provides the absolute best available. Mexico is known for its great beaches, but the service is generally so horrible it makes McDonalds look like a 5 star restraunt when it comes to service. Yes it is new and yes it is clean, but thats about the only thing that was accurate when I read the information about this hotel. Forget about the on street parking it doesn't exist. Service they could care less, when I mentioned the things that were lacking in our room, we were told that ''WE ARE A NEW HOTEL AND EVERYTHING ISNT TOGETHER YET" Well they certainly had no problem with charging me the fully "together rate". We stayed at this place for one week in March and were satisfied with nearly everything. We pay 145 $/night + tax, continental breakfast was included. Uplift for breakfast a la card is moderate and we recommend this. Everything is new in this hotel and this is a main advantage (very effective air condition with remote control). We stayed here the end of February and loved Playa del Carmen. The Illusion Hotel suited our needs and was in a great location. It was more money than we wanted to spend but we were satisfied. The rooftop pool was great and the staff was accommodating. The only negative is that my Sony camcorder was stolen from my bag. I didn't use it the entire trip and left it packed. When I was packing to leave, I realized it was gone. The hotel has responded regarding the theft. Keep your valuables locked up.

We stayed there in the last week of february, thanks God the weather was good, at least! The hotel is new, clean and quite nice, but definetely NOISY. From the first night- we arrived at 11 pm (and they knew that, because we wrote a mail before leaving, warning about our late arrival)- we realized there were problems.
