Having stayed here before, I imagined that there would be no surprises. How wrong could one be? The hotel had elected to allow a large group of unsupervised teenagers to occupy most of the rooms over Easter. The result was a drink and drug fuelled orgy that the hotel staff... more

Satisfactory Self Catering Acommodation
This was a post Christmas break for us to recharge our batteries and for me to give Jean a romantic St Valentines. We have stayed at this resort before and knew our way around. The Apartments consists of two blocks in a horseshoe shape, each with four floors and it's own pool and gardens. The two blocks are connected by a number of outside bridges and there are two lifts and a stairway inside each block. The apartments all overlook the pool areas with a small balcony with table and chairs. These are two bedroom apartments designed to sleep six with two people sleeping in the lounge on the fold down settee. Inside the furniture is adequate if a little sparse and the kitchenette fairly basic (usual two ring hob, microwave, toaster and fridge). Generally speaking it is a satisfactory set up, and well placed for all activities within the resort. On the downside, we did find it noisy, we were unfortunate to have an apartment between the two blocks and the noise of people running or walking on the adjoining bridges transferred through to the building. Also we found the beds far too soft for our liking, leading to aches and pains on the odd morning. The one thing about Playa Del Ingles is that it caters for all, whether you want to sit around the pool, goto the beach or live it up in the numerous bars and clubs or just shop and explore it has it all. It is a compact resort and everything is within walking distance or if you want to get there faster, taxi's are cheap and everywhere. Jean loves market shopping, and there is a huge market on wed and sat mornings in the close by San Fernando area - taxi fare 3euros. This market is big on clothes and leather goods, but there's also traditional goods and the inevitable stalls selling all kinds of imitation and fake this and that - I saw watches purporting to be Rolex looking less designed than a timex!! Being in self catering we tended to eat out a lot, usually in the evening, the choice is huge and it is worth exploring different parts of the resort to see what's available. For example one evening we found a Thailandese restaurant - as much food as you can eat for 6.95euros (that's £4.60), even cheaper for kids. On Feb 14th I took Jean to a steak house we'd visited on our previous visit, service was just great and food even better, our starter, main meals and jug of sangria came to just 20euros (£13.30). Obviously you can pay more, but good food needn't be expensive. For those who are self catering there are many supermarkets, Spar is one of the main chains and although they are not always the cheapest they do keep an excellent range of stock and also carry newspapers if like me you can't do without your daily mail. I could rant on, but in conclusion We love the resort, we will probably go again for short breaks, we will always self cater because we like to get out and about on our own timetable. The Barbados apartments make a good base but are nothing special. We would probably look to another self catering apartment on our next visit.
Very Good Value, Clean, Good Location
Late booking through Travel Republic and was everything we wanted. Two bedroom apartment between two of us. Cost off room about £220 for the week. Excellent value. Great location for catching buses to the better and less crowded beaches at Mogan, Puerto Rico and Maspalomas. Good Spanish restaurant next door called Chipi Chip (dont be put off by name). Top quality fillet steak about 10 euros. Only thing missing was a hotel bar for mixing with other guests. Admittedly quieter time of year but no problems with noise etc. Well equiped clean rooms at a good price.
nice hotel
just came back from this hotel, the hotel it self is nice and the the staff are lovely, and we WAS allowed are lilos in the pool. Dont go to this hotel in you do not like gay people as the hotel and all around the hotel in full of gay men. the yumbo center is the gay center which was very good with the drag shows but is only for the men in the night clubs, the food here is lovely and also cheap. the beer is also very cheap for 6euro you get 2 drinks 1 cocktail and 1 shot very cheap, the kasbah center is good if you like RnB music no dance music, so dont come here if your like me and only like dance music, nice hotel but wont be coming back to playa del ingles due to no dance music. also not alot of english people
all clean but pool was not allowed lilos in or rings
was clean and a good place if you are the other way i.e man and man or woman woman just over at yumbos look in one shop and you have looked in them all had cock croces on blacony every night and if you go with airtours only see rep on last night as it didnt state he would be by pool bar or resepsion didnt even know there was two pools till 3rd day the man that looks after the pool said he would pop lilos if he see in pool and the kids big rings he was eveil. but the rooms were clean but was aa bit much for 5 off us in it
Good holiday
Been back for 2 days now and missing it like mad!! The apartments are clean - the cleaners come every day (except Wednesday and Sunday - days off) with fresh towels but I'm not sure if she changed the beds or not! We stayed in room 318 and from the balcony to the left was the sea and to the right were the mountains - very pretty!! Only spent a couple of hours round the pool and although I didn't eat any of the bar food it smelt good! The reception area have leaflets for excursions - we went horse riding in the mountains one evening which was nice coz it had just started to cool down. We only had 2 overcast days but it was still very warm and still tanned from it! There is a British Bulldog pub next door where we spent most of our time, food is good, reasonable price, and English TV - can't go wrong ;-) The Kasbah is 3euros ish away in a taxi but the PR's will pester the hell out of you until you go into their bar - they tell you it's BOGOF but eg, 3 of us went in and ordered 3 bottles of lager so we got 6 and a free shot (everywhere gives you shots) but it cost us 20 euro's for 3 bottles - buy one get one free my backside! Kasbah gets lively about midnight ish but if a pub ever closes there's always one open round the corner!! The Yumbo centre is just over the road - you can't miss it! I would advise that if you are homophobic or easily offended to avoid after 10pm ish - it's very in your face! I was a bit shocked at first but you soon get used to it and barely notice it after a while!! But it is a good night out - once again 20 euros ish for a round for 4 people! The Irish Centre was probably the best night out we had - music was good but a bit like Kasbah with the offers on beer and similar prices. 5 euros on the beach for 2 sunloungers but 7.50 if you wanted an umbrella too - the sand is very hot so watch you don't burn your feet! Over the road from the apartments there is an Italian restaurant which was lovely - there are restaurants to the right - the lasagne in Milano was fab! There is an all you can eat Chinese buffet further up the road which was good too but most of the time we ate in the British Bulldog - the Bulldog sandwich on the menu was yummy! We had a problems with cockroaches on the last night but I don't think it was anything to do with the apartment being dirty I think it was just the right temp for the dirty little critters to start flying about and through the balcony doors! Don't worry about them though it was a great holiday
Fantastic, would recomend it!!
Just got back from this hotel, had a fantastic week, ideal for us (3 girls aged 25)! The location of the hotel was excellent, it was 2 seconds walk from the Yumbo, which we did visit during the day for shops and food! The room was quite old fashioned but clean, we did see some other rooms and they were more modern! The rooms were cleaned daily and the maid did a great job! The pool was lively, you could always get a sun bed! The night life is great, we spent most nights in the Irish bars! We found some good places to eat, the little Spanish restaurant over the road from the hotel is lovely, a fab steak house in the Cazbar called Buffalo grill, the Greek Village was fantastic also. All of these were walking distance but were between 2-3 euros in a taxi and reasonably priced! Taxis were always easy to catch outside the hotel. If you are a group of girls be ready for the touts, they never leave you alone! They can be quite pushy so tell them that you are not interested straight away!
Sun, Sea, Sand, and..... Sangria!
Arrived back from Gran Can on Tuesday, and am finally getting back into my normal life! The Barbados apartments suited us perfectly (2 males 21,22 + 1 female 23). Although we incurred a occupancy supplement from our tour operator for not filling the apartment it was worth it as it meant we each had our own sleeping area (Handy when after a few drinks you decide to bring company back!). The apartment was extremely clean, and was kept that way by the maids, which is impressive given our skills of spreading clothing across the place! The pools were great - one pool is quieter, whereas the other has a bar which also does food, and also has music. This pool was the hub of our holiday - be sure to visit the pool bar which is run by 'H', who is a total riot! If you like the beach it is walkable (about 10-15mins walk), or you can get a taxi for about 3 euro. We decided after visiting that the pool was much more convenient! Nightlife-wise the Barbados is extremely handy - the Yumbo is literally around the corner, or if that isnt your scene the Kasbah centre is walkable or a 2.50 euro taxi ride. Other centres are also close, but we didnt manage to explore them all. There are a number of restaurants around the area - British bulldog - pub which does food as well as drinks is great for hang-over food, and there is also a really nice italian restaurant across the road, nd a chinese nearby. Our only niggle is tht our neighbours were not too happy with us - they were apparently there for the sun and nothing else. They awoke us one morning with the complaint 'Sie machen Boom-Boom-Boom am Morgen!' However apart from this minor hiccup we had a great stay, and I would recommend the Barbados to anybody wanting an affordable place to stay, which is close to all the places to go out.
Dont stay at these apartments
Me and my partner stayed in the apartments in July 05 and found it to be very noisy (if you stay in apartments 106/107/108) as your over very loud bars that play music until 6am (depending what side of the apartments your staying in) - dont get me wrong - We got in at 3 or 4am most nights and couldnt sleep for the noise! When we finally fell asleep we got woken by people shouting and music in the pool and bar area. Other people in the apartments can be found hanging over the balconies in the early hours of the morning shouting at other holiday makers, children were also kept awake because of the noise. Over all the staff are very freindly and your central to all what the Yumbo Centre has to offer and not far from the beech either, so if you want a cheep holiday and to be kept awake most nights with yobs hurly abuse if you happen to be on your balcony at night then this is the place for you.
great time..
we have stayed at the Barbados Apartments sevaral times, and fine it excellent value for money, its clean, good friendly staff, close to Yumbo centre (100's of restaurants, and bars), fab night lifethere for all, very gay orientated at night, but friendly to all, supermarkets, and shops very close, and although taxis are cheap, you can walk to almost anywhere in the resort..and if on holiday ..take your time. Good clean safe pools at the Barbados, with plenty of sun beds, and never crowded..beach a bus, or taxi ride away, or a 20 minute stroll down a promenade, and then across the dunes. not too many kids if you avoid the school holidays, and the apartments are really quiet at night, and very private. we are returning later this year, so go on go man go...
ok
it was ok but i wouldnt go there again it was a bit low star it was clean but there were some probs in others appartments of cockroaches so this year i have decided to go to the royal kenz in tunisia
