wouldnt go back!

I just got back from my holiday from gran canaria and stayed in barbados apartments,My first words are i will not be going back there at all to gran canaria. we went as a family as 6, me my partner and are two kids and my sister and her little boy,my sister stayed in a different hotel. The good points was the staff and cleaners are lovely very nice people welcomed us very well, and your rooms get cleaned nearly every day apart from thursdays and sundays. The hotel is situated above shops, restraunts and pubs, extremally noisy on a night even right up till early hours,i never got much sleep because of all the noise and we was on the top floor.Had people ringing are bell at 6 o clock in the morning waking us all up and running off thinking it was funny. we didnt get in the pool because first day we tryed it and it was just too deep for the kids am just over 5ft and i couldnt even touch the floor and the bar was in next doors pool so everyday we went down to my sisters apartment which was called montimar that was a lovely hotel. The pools was great, theres a park for little ones and pool tables etc for older ones also a bar which served lovely food and a lovely bloke that works in it. Barbados apartments are just standard basic, we had a portable tv which we had to put money in to be able to watch it, the bathroom smelt of sewage which was coming from the b-day so i put a glass over the plug hole and the smell went away cos i couldnt stomach the rank smell. The lifts was always broke. The weather was fantastic thought for the whole two weeks we stayed for it was between 25c - 31c came home lovely and tanned. not much to do on a evening if you go as a family with kids, wouldnt recommened it for a family who want a good holiday, it more a relaxing place but the night life is awake in the yumbo centre, specially for gays. and last for not least its the most exspensive place i have ever been to we spent a bomb its prices are ridculous we had to even get money transfered over threw the westen union because we ran out cos its that exspensive....... would never go again.....

Having previously worked in the travel industry for 10 years I now have to pay full price for my holidays. I have travelled all around the world but have enjoyed nowhere more than the six times I have stayed at the Barbados apartments in Playa del Ingles. The aparments are not luxurius but they are clean and cleaned daily. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and they remember you! At the moment I don't want to go anywhere else for my main holiday. I will be going in a week's time and then I am sure I will be planning the same hols next year! Chack out Lorraine Bowen's song "Yumbo Centre, Gran Canaria" on YouTube. It's brilliant. Her new CD is out this month - I can't wait for it!!!

I have just arrived from a holiday in which i stayed in the barbados apartments. Although their were some good points to the apartment such as location and the rooms being cleaned most days overall i was very disappointed with the service. When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by a very rude lady who could not even tell us where our rooms were situated. once we reached our rooms they were quite small and basic which was fine but the appliances in the room did not work i.e. TV, fridge or kettle. I felt the location of the hotel was ok but abit far from the beach. The main problem we had with the apartments were the very unhelpful staff who when we ever asked a question not only could not provide a answer but seemed annoyed that we sould be asking them at all. the only staff member that was frendly to us was the cleaning lady who did a descent job of our room as well. All in all i would not recommend this apartment to anyone.

If you don't like noisy drunken dope smoking teenagers.....
1 / 10
May 2010, Nimrod

Having stayed here before, I imagined that there would be no surprises. How wrong could one be?
The hotel had elected to allow a large group of unsupervised teenagers to occupy most of the rooms over Easter.
The result was a drink and drug fuelled orgy that the hotel staff admitted to knowing about whilst at the same time refusing to deal with it.
Requests to speak to the management or for the police to be called were ignored as was a request to be moved to another hotel.
The teenagers were blatantly walking through reception with bottles of alcohol even though they were only 15 or so years of age and no attempt was made to curtail this.
It seems the hotel was happy to condone this behaviour and had no concerns for the safety of comfort of its remaining guests - odd when you consider that this hotel is very expensive when compared to other similar types of accommodation in Playa del Ingles.
Be very careful in choosing this hotel - once they have had your money you'll get absolutely no help if you have a problem or complaint.

Wouldn't Come Back ...

Myself, 5 girls & 2 boys went to Barbados In June 08 for a lively holiday. Do not go here if its a lively holiday you are after. On our first night the security man came to our door complaining about our music which we didn't think was up too loud at all. Even if we wer sitting out on the balcony drinkin, security would shout up to us telling us to turn the music off which was very frustrating.
There are 2 large pools but are very deep. The shallow end came up to my shoulders. Didn't see it getting cleaned the whole week we wer there.
Pool barman was nice enuf but can be abit of a torture when your hungover.
Rooms wer basic but we wer hardly ever in them. Thers ants al over the floor and I cut my foot on a piece of glass on the floor which obviously hadn't been cleaned properly after the previous people left.
Only good thing about these apartments was the location. They are a 2min walk away from the yumbo centre & about a 5min drive from the centre. Beach is about 10mins walk to the right of the apartments.
Overall had a very good holiday but would def not come back to the barbados.

Excellent Location

Mar 2009, leaton

Just back from a short break in the Barbados Apartments, it was one of my friends 50th birthday. Three of us stayed in the apartments, when we were dropped off, we were well pleased at the locality. Two mins from the Yumbo Centre and a central location. Though I would not recommend these apartments for families, a very busy gay scene. Just as well we had left our husbands behind. The apartments were basic, but very clean. Plent of sunbeds, we were particulary pleased with the weather as sometimes the canaries can be a little iffy in March. The Bulldog was a good place to eat but the Duke Steak House across the road and a little up was outstanding. we had sirloin steaks with baked potatoes only 10 euro each, well worth it. Do not touch the Chinese Buffet at the corner it was the only bad meal we had. The Irish Bars below the apartments were excellent.

Myself and 4 girlfriends stayed here...

Myself and 4 girlfriends stayed here for a week in July 08. We arrived at around 9pm and were greeted by very helpful and friendly staff at the reception.
Room.
Once we entered the apartment there was a very unpleasant smell which took until about the 4th day to go away. The floors are covered with ants and we found a cockroach in r room! Security is quite strict as a security man came to our door about the music which i personally dont think was loud at all. The maids came everyday apart from wed and sun and always left a sufficent amount of towels.
Pool area.
There are two pool areas 1 being more livelier than the other and it was no problem getting sunbeds. The pool is very deep, the shallow end was up to my chin. The food in the foodbar is very nice and reasonably priced and the men that run it are good craic.
Location.
The location was brilliant as it was only a 3euro taxi fare to the town centre and taxis are very easy to get they are everywhere. Clubs are brill, cream chinawhites pacha. Most closed at 3am but cream stays open to 6am.
Overall I had a brilliant holiday and would definatly recommend the gran canaries and these apartments.

Me and 3 girl-mates stayed at this...
9 / 10
Jul 2008, Miss K Bev

Me and 3 girl-mates stayed at this place. It was really clean and tidy. Our towels were changed 3 times during the week, and when I walked in on the cleaner one day I saw that she had pulled the bed out and was cleaning behind there even! We didn't see a cockroach in the appartments the whole time, the bins were emptied daily and we had all of the utensils and electricals we needed in the appartment. There were bars outside the appartments therefore if you do need a good nights sleep I would suggest taking ear plugs - i had some from the plane and they did fine when I wanted an early night! The KASBAH is wicked for young people, but I really didnt enjoy it much on a Saturday becuase a lot more of the spanish men were out, and the english reps jus kept telling us to watch our bags! There were also a lot of reps out in the street trying to drag you in. I would also recommend the plaza, the wassup bar especially is lots of fun.! We didn't bother with the foam parties & booze cruises as at 50euros each we felt it was a waste, especially when the rep selling them admited that the drinks are relatively weak and watered down! The Yumbo centre was amazing, once you had a few drinks inside you with a lot of bars aimed at the gay scene - not a place Id really recommend for kids as some of the shows were quiet explicit, but not so much as to be pornographic! Also be aware that some of the bars there are men only, and also, one of the guys we met there had his wallet stolen there, so you have to be careful! As for food... I think if your happy to have chicken or salads you can eat cheaply, however if not for 4 people our bill was around 90-100 euros everynight, i would also recommend that if you head to the beach go left from the cab point as the restaurants get cheaper up there.. Cafe ROMA is highly recommended. I would recommend this hotel for young outgoing individuals rather than families - some of the conversations around the pool were a bit much for the kids. Also think the pool bar is wicked - they do good bacon sandwiches in the morning for 3 euros & chips are to die for..! The barman "H" is a total star - he remembered my name & order after first few drinks!
