If you want value for money this is...

Nov 2004, Mrs S King

If you want value for money this is the place, food was varied and plentiful, drinks mainly local brands but you could pay for named brands if you so wanted. Choice of pools one where most activities took place tended to be mainly families another was mainly couples/singles the third tots and family.
The reps put on cabaret shows most nights ,and were very well thought out. Occasional outside entertainers were brought in. Outside the complex is a local shopping centre which you tend to get bombarded by shop keepers wanting you to take a look (remember to barter if you do, as some of the prices they quote are way out. The reps tend to frighten you about going off the site unless you go in an organised trip (nothing to do with them getting commission?).
Trips are expensive swimming with dolphins and monster truck rides with free drink considering you have free drink already and any drive along the roads of the dominican is bumpy so its not great value for money.
We hired a taxi for 8 at the gate of the complex and rounded up some others and we were escorted to 2 main cities for approx £4 per head. Also at the entrance is a tour shop check his prices out ,much cheaper then reps. Scuba diving tuition is free in the pool 1 hour then if you want to go out to sea (which my son did, and said it was better than any aquarium, feeding bananas to the fish!)They charge approx £25 per dive but it gets cheaper the more you dive, packages can be bought.
Plenty of sporting activities, table tennis, pool tables, and computer games, volleyball man golf, and water games organised by friendly staff. Highlight for me watching the sun go down in a jacuzzi, cut into the rocks. Sipping my cocktail heaven!

I found the casa marina beach to be a...

Nov 2004, Miss H White

I found the casa marina beach to be a beautiful hotel, with very well looked after grounds. The hotel had nothing but friendly, happy staff that were always prepared to help.
The nightly entertainment in the amphitheatre was outstanding by far the best entertainment I have ever seen in a hotel. The entertainment team work extremely hard and it definitely shows.
The rooms were clean and comfortable but it would have been nice to have a kettle for those early morning cuppas.
The food at the hotel was not to the standard of other hotels I have visited with Thomson holidays. The buffet restaurant offered quite a wide range of food but with a very unappealing look and taste. The Mexican restaurant was good with lovely staff very well presented food. The Italian was our favourite with extremely friendly staff and excellent food. The seascape restaurant however was extremely disappointing, we expected a beautiful exotic selection of seafood, but were presented with a small menu and prawns no bigger than the one’s from tescos. The nice thing about eating at the al a carte restaurants was the waiter service and be able to drink out of a proper glass. Its plastic beakers at the buffet where you can queue for a good ten minutes whilst your dinner gets cold. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay at the casa marina beach hotel you could relax all day in the sun around the pool or on the beach, or take part in the free water sports and games held on the beach. There was always something to do it was a great holiday no complaints apart from the buffet.

My Husband and I went to the Casa...

Oct 2004, Mrs J E Fawcett

My Husband and I went to the Casa Marina last October, it was our first Caribbean Holiday as well as our first All inclusive.
On arrival at the hotel we greeted with a refreshing drink and given our room key, we were allocated a ground floor room, which was not very nice, it was mouldy and damp. however after to speaking to other people the next day I decided to ask to be moved as no one else seemed to have the same problem. Reception did try to fob me off with house keeping to which my husband demanded we be moved immediately.
We were given a room on a higher level which was lovely no mould or damp, this changed our whole holiday around.
The pools were clean and the pool man used to get into the pool every morning with the pool hover any clean away any sand from the bottom.
We found the staff friendly but watch for the time share touts.
There were plenty of food to choose from, and usually something to suit everyone. However there were always flies on the bread and cakes.
We went to all three al Carte restaurants, the Mexican is fantastic, and I loved the seascape and got a chance to try lobster. We didn’t think much to the Italian it was a little bland.
Trips out are expensive, we went to paradise island and loved it but it was a three hour drive which I wouldn’t recommend.
The rooms have hallways running through them and people used them as short cuts and many people were very inconsiderate of others as the sound would multiply.
There were great shows on every night but no covered bar to sit in, which was only a problem if it rained.
There were always beds available either on the reef, or by the pool.
We thought it was great value for money and would definitely go again.

Casa Marina - Sasoua, Dom Republic...
10 / 10
Sep 2004, Miss H Parkes

Casa Marina - Sasoua, Dom Republic
The best holiday I’ve ever had.
Although we were on tropical storm watch for a couple of nights and two hurricanes passed the island while we were the there you could not fault the weather. Long sunny days with a slight breeze - superb.
Food - With 3 buffet style restaurants and 3 ala carte restaurants to choose from you could never go hungry at this hotel. At the start of the break you are given one reservation ticket for each ala carte restaurant per week. This allows you to book a table at a time convenient to you. The sea food restaurant was our fave with exotic soups and salads for starters, sea food mix grill including, lobster, chicken, seared salad and tuna steak, prawns and mixed seasonal veg in a light sauce. Also available were a variety of sea food dishes with delicious sauces and accompaniments. Dessert a full selection of cakes, ice cream etc. Oh and of course, free flowing cocktails all night long.
The other ala carte restaurants were of equal calibre with Luiggis Italian serving the best Lasagne I have ever tasted and The Mexican restaurant serving a splendid Tequila coffee to top off your meal.
Entertainment was also exceptional with a range to suit all ages and needs. At the amphitheatre each night was a different show, although cheesy it was good fun entertainment, with an early disco for the kids and late night Disco (night club) for the adults.
Pools - 3 available. 1 with daily entertainment. 1 which was quieter allowing for relaxation and sunbathing. 3 slightly smaller but with an exceptional view of the ocean. Also available were 3 sea front Jacuzzi, where you can sip an tasty cocktail and watch the waves roll in.
The rooms were basic but comfortable with a range of sky TV channels to suit, all rooms were Air conditioned and cleaned daily by a very helpful maid.
Overall, good value for Money, a holiday must!

I am writing to tell other people...
10 / 10
Jul 2004, Mrs T McFall

I am writing to tell other people about the holiday we have just had in the Dominican Republic. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 children aged 12 and 7. We have just come back from the best holiday we have ever had. The resort of Sosua is a bit on the run down side, however the hotel complex was fantastic, made even better by the staff working there. The beaches were wonderful, and the setting was fantastic.
The children made lots of friends here, and got to play with children from all nationalities. There was plenty to do in the way of activities if you wanted them, but if all you wanted to do was lay around all day, that was fine also. The food was good and varied but we found the best meal of the day was breakfast. There was so much choice. We eat so much through the first week though, we had had enough food by week 2.
The best time of the day for us was late afternoon when we would have a dance lesson on the beach followed by a swim in the sea to cool off and then a cocktail on the beach bar watching the sun go down. What more could you want.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to any one with a family and would go back there again if there were not so many lovely other places to see in the world. We paid the same amount of money for this holiday as we would of done for somewhere like Cyprus in peak season and this is heaps better. We will definitely going back the Caribbean next year.

Here is a letter I sent to everyone...
1 / 10
Apr 2004, Mr E Bruckner

Here is a letter I sent to everyone associated with this trip, slightly edited to remove some names and the flight info as it was not related to the resort. It was a PACE airline flight and it was the worst weve ever been on. Over 8 hours sitting on the plane for a 2.5 hour flight. This truly was a nightmare.
I am writing this letter with the hopes of improving your business practice and possibly preventing others from experiencing the same horrific travel nightmare we just returned from. My girlfriend was just released from the hospital, so I am just now getting the chance to write this letter. We travel to the Caribbean approximately every 3-4 months with many of our friends and have never experienced such a poorly run, disheveled and unclean vacation resort package. I will attempt to make this description as detailed as possible, so that you may address every issue.
On March 18, we purchased an all-inclusive vacation from TravelByJen.com. The package was through Vacation Express and included round trip airfare from BWI on Pace Charter Airlines to Puerto Plata and the Casa Marina Beach resort. We traveled down on April 16th and returned on April 23rd.
Upon arriving at Casa Marina Beach resort, we were shuffled into a room that was so moldy and smelly that my girlfriend suffered an asthma attack and was unable to breathe in the room. We were finally given a room that smelled okay, but leaked terribly from the bathroom ceiling. As it rained the entire week, it was constantly dripping from the ceiling in the bathroom. We had to stack towels on the bathroom floor to absorb the flow of rainwater into the bathroom. After getting into the room, we proceeded to the main buffet area to attempt a late dinner. We were appalled by the conditions there. Almost all of the plates and cups were dirty in one manner or another. We later observed the washing procedure for the plastic cups which consisted of swishing them through water then placing them in the clean pile. The food was bland and ordinary at best. The drinks were watered down and flavorless, as well. I will offer my compliments for the 3 specialty restaurants as they were well run and the food was nicely prepared.
We spent the week trying to find hygienic conditions to eat in and were mostly unsuccessful. We spent a considerable amount of money at the general store on prepackaged foods and beverages. We did eat at the buffet a few times out of necessity and we came to pay the price for it, which I will explain later. On top of the filthy conditions, the resort as a whole was overcrowded. Every time we wanted to eat or take a tour sold on your property or do anything else that involved others, we were packed into spaces that were too small for the number of people, herded like cattle and provided minimal comfort. We also witnessed a man causing a commotion and being chased and tackled by security, then escorted right past us. We were told that the same man had been beaten by security in front of others the day before. We felt very unsafe most of the time, but this just amplified those feelings.
When Friday the 23rd finally arrived, we were very relieved to be returning home. A feeling that should not be present while on vacation. To this point, our vacation, in a nutshell, consisted of the worst plane flight we had ever been on, the dirtiest and most unsanitary resort and eating conditions we had experienced in our travels, being treated like cattle and a feeling of general insecurity and lack of safety. Upon arriving home, my girlfriend began to feel tired and a bit queasy. When we woke up Saturday it had intensified. By the time Sunday arrived, she was feverish and in need of medical attention. We arrived at the hospital and she was immediately admitted and began to have a battery of tests performed on her. After 2 days, it was determined that she had contracted Typhoid Fever- food poisoning at the resort. This type of food poisoning is present in unsanitary, unhealthy conditions. One week later she is still at home, not able to work while she recovers from the poisoning she received at the Casa Marina Beach resort. Our traveling companions also fell ill with one getting a stomach virus and the other developing ear and sinus infections. The squalid conditions of this resort were just so far below anything imaginable; it is truly hard to describe.
We are hoping you will address some of these issues and make an effort to improve all aspects of these packages so that travelers in the future will not fall victim as we did. We are currently investigating our options to pursue action through the State Department and other legal avenues against all parties involved for intentionally placing us in a dangerous, unsanitary environment while advertising it on your website as “Superb accommodations you surely will enjoy”.
