Globespan flight from Edinburgh takes less than 2 and 3/4 hours and you are in Pula - only flight in on a Sunday evening and you are off the plane and on the transfer coach having collected your luggage within half an hour! It works the same going home!
Reached the Hotel Istra by a fifteen minute ferry ride from Rovinj - hotel grey concrete in external appearance built on a small but very beautiful island.
Internally the hotel is big bright and modern. Rooms are spotlessly clean with excellent en suite facilities and a small balcony. Ours was at the back of the hotel overlooking the four pools (there's also an indoor pool and spa too!)
Food was good - buffet style and plenty of choice- and beer, wines and soft drinks were included with dinner. The local beer and wines were very drinkable. Nice touch was a voucher which allowed you to dine a la carte one evening in the hotel's restaurant which was adjacent to the ancient church, beautifully decorated and very atmospheric. On this occasion you paid only for your drinks! Staff were helpful and polite.
There were shingle beaches, and play parks for kids indoors and outdoors as well as a wellness centre with beauty and massage treatments on offer at prices similar to those at home.
There was a daily timetable for the free ferry to Rovinj which is a very picturesque town where you can climb the cobbled streets to the church or relax at the marina and watch the world go by over a macchiato or a cappuccino.
I would imagine the hotel and resort would be very busy in July and August but this was the end of September and ideal for an extremely good value for money, chill out week.
