GOOD HOTEL BUT.......
8 / 10
Aug 2009, BASILICA

WE HAVE JUST RETURNED FROM A WEEKS HOLIDAY AT THE Hotel Pical in Porec. A lovely place, do not be fooled by the outside of the hotel. A lovely relaxing place, great sun sets and just a steady 15 min walk from the old village. The staff were very helpful, rooms basic but the cleaners did a grand job.All the food on offer at breakfast and dinner meant you would never go hungry(no free beer, wine or juice though)although the food at dinner wasn't always as hot as i would of liked. With it being so hot we really missed the air con. We tried leaving the doors open but found it quite noisy especially at two-three in the morning when people were walking past to their hotels they could be very loud(these were not Brits abroad either)and if i never hear another scooter it will be too soon.It all seems a lot louder when you can't sleep. Great swimming in the large pool(salt water)but you have to be up early to get a sunbed. I know i sound like i'm moaning but i did go when all Europe's schools were on holiday and would recommend if you don't want children throwing their football at you or running diving at you give July and early Aug a miss.Although i have ticked great for beach it is actually shingle, great for sun bathing though.

Booked holiday going to hotel neptun...

Booked holiday going to hotel neptun in Porec Croatia with Newmarket air holidays in
May for travel on September 2nd. Chose hotel from pick of six, five large complex type
hotels on the outskirts of the old town & one small & friendly in the old town.
Opted for the small one as thats what we prefer also with walking difficulties wanted to be central. One week before departure get final joining instuctions all is well, Three days
before departure new joining instuctions change of hotel. On phoning not given much
information just beyond their control not offered any alternative or to cancel. Emailed
but had to leave for holiday before i got a reply. Arrived at destination hotel, for some
people may have been great, swimming pool, kids club entertainment in the evening but this was not for us. We were about one mile from the old town which was reached either by walking or taking the tourist train running every forty minutes untill eleven twenty costing 10 kunas per person each way, only about £1. 25 but 4 trips a day for 2
soon adds up & if you wanted to stay out late it was take a taxi or walk. Add to this the noise of tourist coaches early in the morning running thier engines to keep their air con going & no air con or other ventilation in room so balcony door had to stay open all night we got very little sleep. On inquiring I dont think we were ever booked in to hotel Neptun.
Newmarket blame their agents for letting them down but say they supplied us with a suitable altenative. Porec is a beautiful place just sorry our holiday was ruined.

we stayed at the pical hotel, in the last week of august. the pical is very clean and the staff are very friendly, we did find the hotel a bit basic, the food was very good, although lacking atmosphere. i travelled with a female friend and found we were not hassled at all and felt very safe walking around the town and surrrounding areas. the pical is a fanstastic hotel to stay for the beach and an easy 10 minute stroll into porec, which is an absolute gem. i know recommend croatia to all of my friends and would love to go back with my family.

Absolutely top class holiday, top class resort, & top class hotel. Food was superb, with a wide range of choices (both Croatian specialities & international fayre). Vegetarians are well catered for too, which pleased my wife enormously!
Rooms spotless and very comfortable. Staff could not do enough to help, and were extremely friendly without being intrusive.
The only minor fault was wheelchair access to the swimming pool and bar is tricky, with a few steps to negotiate (although we were told in advance about this). If you are less mobile, please be aware that there are also steps only to the restaurant (although the manager, seeing our difficulties, offered us use of the staff lift via the kitchen area, for the entire duration of our holiday).
This is not common knowledge, however, and is advisable & courteous to wait to be offered this facility, rather than expecting it, as it is normally only for staff use.
Other than the restaurant & reception staff (both exceptionally helpful), special mention must go to Petra and Ana, the main 2 girls that organise the evening entertainment, who made us feel really welcome. Above all, you are treated as a guest, not just a customer.
Porec is a beautiful town, and I would recommend going to explore other parts of this beautiful country too, via some of the excursions offered by Thomson.

Aug 2007, Mr N Mcpherson

My wife and I spent 7 days in the Hotel Pical. We found that the it was generally very clean and tidy, the pool area was well looked after and sold food and drink from about 10am onwards.
There is no air con in the rooms, and at night it can be very uncomfortable indeed.
The food hall was immaculate and catered for every taste; beer was free, so was wine, white and red. Smallish twin bedrooms with dressing table, bedside lamps and a good sized balcony.
Staff were very courteous but lacked good English. One main bar served the whole hotel and be warned that it was a little on the expensive, particularly for spirits £3.50 for a vodka and coke.
If you like music by the pool take your MP3 because the rest is all local twaddle that is played too loud.
10min to the town centre and what a stunning place that is, with its many shops and restaurants. Old Roman ruins are dotted here and there and hunting them out is a pleasure, particularly in the morning when you can be alone and the place is not full of tourists.
Lastly, the hotel has three lifts and many stairs, the lifts are like metal saunas and you sometimes wonder if you would survive inside if they stuck.
Overall, a good holiday destination.

On the whole, not too bad... However...

Mar 2006, Miss M Greenwood

On the whole, not too bad... However I found the rooms were small and basic, and my view out of the balcony was of a rather large tree.
The hotel itself is in need of a good lick of paint, as it looks like something out of the 60's. Drinks in the hotel are rather expensive, but there are a few bars nearby which are cheap. Meal times were not too good either, the same stuff was slopped on every night, and I found the waiters had real attitude problems.
The entertainment was absolutely awful as well, the same people were on every night for a week, with the same songs played at the same time every night - so much variety eh? On the plus side, there were plenty of sun loungers available, even at 2pm. Beware if you like the beach - there isn't one, just steps into the sea due to the amount of rocks there are.
Also if you are not Italian or German be prepared to wait a long time to get served drinks. I would not go back, it was no my idea of a good holiday at all.
