Diamant Hotel

Upon booking our apparent 4 star spa hotel we were looking forward to a luxurious holiday only 2.5 hours away from home with a 45 minute transfer. To say that we were disappointed and feel misled is an understatement.
Once landing in Pula airport, we discovered that Holiday Options as a firm are too small to have a bus/coach for each resort and as such all Holiday Options passengers were put onto one coach to depart for our hotels. Only when we had set off were we advised that what should have been (and was advertised as) a 45 minute transfer turned out to be a further 2 1/2 hours on a coach. In effect, a short haul flight ended up taking a full day traveling!
When we arrived at our hotel, and having paid for a double room with a view and balcony, we then discovered that we had a twin room. It did indeed have a very small balcony however our view was of the top of the kitchen and the air conditioning units!
The room itself was very small and basic and we would have been better staying in a low cost hotel as the accommodation was not fitting a 4 star spa report. The only saving grace for the room was that it was clean!
The hotel itself, although in a nice location in the outskirts of a forest, was very disappointing. The pool was small and only had enough sun beds for 1/4 of the rooms available. These were in 3 rows around the pool and that closely packed together that you had no space or privacy. The indoor pool which was supposed to be part of the spa i.e. adults only was packed with kids dive bombing into the pool and making a nuisance of themselves.
All of the hotel staff spoke in German to my partner and myself even though the 2nd language of Croatia is English. Whilst mildly annoying at the start of the holiday, this became a bug bear by the end as staff didn’t even check where you were from just launched into German at any opportunity.
Despite the hotel being disappointing the town of Porec is lovely and quaint and the people are friendly however our overall experience of the Hotel Diamont will mean that we never wish to return to Croatia for a holiday.
If you are going to Croatia, make sure that you carefully check the accommodation as web sites are misleading and also bear in mind that all of the hotels are below the standard of a Quality Inn/Travel Lodge in the UK and as such you may be wiser spending less money for the same accommodation elsewhere as the Diamont only has the extra stars as it has apparent 'spa' facilities!
