Arrived back from holiday yesterday and can honestly say did not want to be back in England. Callas de Mallorca is very nice. The sea is warm and crystal clear. The beach we went to (which is just down some steps from the hotel Americas where we stayed) is a lovely little cove with golden sand - very nice. The hotel is clean and friendly. The food is very nice, varied and plentiful. The pools are clean and a nice size, although we didn't use it that much as we prefered to go to the beach. The beach is near enough to the hotel to pop back for food and drink as and when it is wanted and we felt comfortable letting our two boys (12 & 8) go back to the hotel together for food and drinks without us because it was so near. Our room was a nice size as was the bathroom in it. In the evening they had a childrens disco everynight and then some other entertainment afterwards. I found the evenings a bit chilly as there is always a breeze that seems to blow, which is lovely throught the day, but, I found I needed a cardi in the evenings. All in all, I would say this is a very nice hotel in a nice location for families. I think it is good value for money and I would definitley go back and I think if you book with the big tour operators (we went with first choice) you will have no problems with room availability. I was a bit worried myself after reading reviews about people having to go to a different hotel, but we had no problem at all when we got there. Everything we experienced was positive and we had a lovely time. Really worth a visit if you want an easy, relaxing holiday.

What a wonderfull hotel to stay in, provided that you have a room overlooking the sea, was initally offered room 101, which is over the Disco and told its a family room. It is more like a staff quarters, bathroom terrible no balcony etc.. not a family room as friends booked one and its entirly different we booked two rooms and the poor reception was in a total mess, gave away our two rooms which fortunately we were able to get back before other party unpacked as it was a sea view.
General clening good, and it has to be due to the mess left by guest (cups and plates all over communial areas) which is cleaned up several times a day.
The food does leave a little to be desired, I did not go hungry or contract food poisoning so cant complain, it was a little bland and repetative at times.
Breakfast choice of Egg Bacon etc.. Bread and rolls with cold meats and cheese or cerials
Luch, best meal of the day, more variatey for the salads and reasonable choice of hot although in the heat its difficult to eat that much.
Dinner - most dissapointing, when the dinning room get bussiest there are not enough tables for larger groups, and they close at 9pm sharp, if you want to wash and relax after a day subbathing out of luck unless you want to eat in the pizza resturant.
Pizza resturant and Pool bar, adequate did not eat from the BBQ
Two bars, Pool bar good in the evening to watch the entertainment (well you need a drink to watch it) and the Front bar good if you just want to get away from Bingo and poor entertainment.
Beach is wonderfull, it made the holiday for us no one wanted to come home, despite being critical I did not dislike the hotel its patrons have a little to be desired as they have poor parenting skills

We have just returned from a week's holiday at the Hotel America and it was fantastic. No one wanted to come home. The view is amazing, the beach is beautiful and the pools are great.
We had asked for a not too noisy room so were put in the annexe which was great. The food is fine; breakfast great, lunch and dinner fairly similar though always something to eat and there is also the cafe by the pool which does really nice burgers and chips etc plus the pizzeria which does pizza and pasta or some other bits and pieces.
Kids (5 and 3) had a great time and loved the mini disco each evening and the entertainment. Activities were sometimes a bit busy but enjoyable none the less.
Drinks were great, never really had to queue and the bar staff were polite and friendly. In fact the only complaint all week was that their servings of spirits were a bit too generous!
The sunbeds round the pool were always taken early about 8.30-9 ish if you could be bothered to go and put your towels out. There are always chairs around though so not a problem for us at all.
Beach is really close and absolutely stunning!
Calas de Mallorca is very close and pretty small. Very quiet for high season too.
All together a wonderful holiday. Highly recommended!

we found the room very comfortable
the food was fine there is always something you can choose from any of the food areas
bar service good
in fact we enjoyed ourselves that much we have booked to go back in september and take our family with us

Just returned from hotel america and had a fantastic time, hotel and location brilliant. Pool great but do have to get up early for sunbed and lifeguard a pain as no inflatables or balls allowed in pool. Meals good and snack bar opens from 10 to 6 and provides lovely snacks all day. My two children 5 and 2 had a great time, eldest daughter went to kids club everyday. mini disco and show on a night. Staff helpful and would recommend this hotel to friends.

Well where should I start from! the good points or the bad points? Well lets start from the good points shall we! The kids enjoyed themselves very much, we only stayed for seven days, and the weather was very hot (don't know to have that as a good point or bad point) - let's have it as both! and lastly the food (only for the first day) and finally the veiw was brill.
Now the bad points... (Hope you have time reading this!)
The food.... Except for the first day (Tuesday 24th June 2008) the food was terrible. basically the same every day for adults and children, it was either luke warm, or some of the food (mainly chicken & burgers) in the main restaruant was under cooked - pink inside. the rest of it by looking at it looked like something that the dog chucked up the day before and I am not JOKING!!! In the main restraunt it seemed that the waiter could not wait to get rid of you what I mean is that they are always hovering over your table and as soon as you finished your dinner and even before you had the chance to put your knife and fork they take away your plate and then only afterwards they say "FINISHED" in their Spanish tone of voice and also [--] when they drop something yes that's right we heard a waiter say [--] also in their spanish tone of voice (which was very funny - added to the entertainment). On two occations there has been a foreign body in the food a fly in the scrambeled egg and on the last night the potatoes were not chopped properly as it still had its roots left on it. The food in the pool cafe was pretty good but don't eat in the pizzaria as, well I put it this way we had a wobbly table outside and the pizza kept it straight yes thats right the pizza was that hard you could use it as a spare wheel for the car!
The Room... The room was pokey for a "family room", the air conditioning did not work either properly or not at all plus we all kept getting bit by something for which I will have got to go to the doctors with as the bite is not in a plesant place for a man should I say! one of the beds kept breaking (even after being changed) but I must say the veiw was brilliant.
Poolside... Now here is something that has not changed! Still have to be down at the crack of dawn to get a place near the pool, people coming down and placing their towels (I even seen one some one at 5.45am putting towels down. Kids now cannot have inflatables in the pool (did last year). also something that bothers me was that there was no ash trays anywhere.
I could carry on but im am just [--] off with this place I DO NOT RECOMMENED THIS PLACE AT ALL I ONLY GAVE IT A RATING OF 3 CAUSE I FEEL SO SO SORRY FOR THE PLACE.

BEWARE - IF YOU ARE THINKING OF STAYING AT THIS HOTEL MAKE SURE YOU BOOK WITH ONE OF THE BIG PACKAGE COMPANIES I.E. AIRTOURS, THOMAS COOK, THOMPSON ETC. OR YOU MAY NOT GET A ROOM AT THIS HOTEL - YOU MAY BE SHUNTED OFF TO ANOTHR HOTEL AS THEY SAY THERE ARE NO ROOMS AVAILABLE EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE STILL BOOKING IN THE GUESTS FROM THE MAJOR PACKAGE TOUR OPERATORS.
My partner and I specifically booked this hotel because we had stayed here before 14 years ago and got engaged here plus the reviews were excellent so were really looking forward to it - when we arrived we were told that there were no rooms available (even though others were able to get rooms as they booked with one of the major operators). We were told that we could still use the facilities at this hotel as well as the one we ended up in (Eurocalas) and we were put in a taxi. The only trouble was the Eurocalas is a good 10 minute walk away and as I suffer from osteoarthritis in my knees, its not such a good idea although we did use the facilities when we hired a car for a few days. The food, although good in quality didn't seem as good as the Eurocalas and the sunbeds were non-existent when we did go to the America. Also there seems to be only wine, beer or water and juices available at lunch and dinner - we couldn't find any other soft drinks at all and we didn't always feel like alcohol - especially as my partner was driving and couldn't drink anyway.
Overall, we were disappointed to find we couldn't stay at our chosen hotel but found the alternative better in space and quality of food, especially as there were at least 2 chefs cooking fresh food at each meal time and the dining room was much larger than at the America.

when we arrived we were told that there was a prolem with the room and had to stay at another hotel for the nite. and we were sorry that we did not stay for the week in the hotel samosa thats were we went .because the rooms were a lot nicer and bigger than hotel america.the food was dreadful in hotel america. the only in door bar had smoking so if you dont smoke you will have to stay out at the pool bar and drink from plastic cups and freeze if the weather is not to good . there was another bar that closed all day long and opened at twelve until 2am but you had to pay for your drinks. and the noise at night from the guest was a joke . would never go back to that hotel .

THE HOTEL ITSELF WAS AS STATED ONLY 3 STAR BORDERING 2 STAR
VIEW SECOND TO NONE
FOOD NOT BAD BUT GOT BORING BY END OF WEEK
ALL INCULSIVE ACHOHOL EXTREMMLY WEAK ? WATERED DOWN
CLEANLINESS NOT BAD POOL AREA CLEANED MORNING & NIGHT - BUT THEIR WAS A COTTON BUDDY ON THE FLOOR IN THE ROOM ALL WEEK AND IT WASN'T MINE
THE ROOM VERY VERY VERY SMALL HAD TO TURN SIDEWAYS TO WALK PAST THE END OF THE BED & TV
BATHROOM TINY - SHOWER OVER HALF SIZED BATH - SHOWER CURTAIN RAIL HELD UP BY PLUG CHAIN
THE WORST PART WAS THE NOISE NOT ONLY COULD YOU HEAR NEXT DOORS CONVERSATIONS ect..........BUT DUE TO A VENTILATION SHAFT IN THE BATHROOM YOU COULD HEAR EVERYONE ABOVE & BELOW YOU - THE ENTERTAINMENT WAS EVERY NIGHT OUTSIDE IN THE POOL AREA THE NOISE WAS UNBEARABLE UNTIL WELL AFTER MIDNIGHT AS MOST ROOMS OVERLOOK THE POOL AREA - NO CHANCE OF AN EARLY RELAXING NIGHT
I WAS TOLD THE RESORT WAS A NICE QUITE RESORT RELAXING BUT EVEN LAID ON THE BEACH DURING THE DAY THE NOISE FROM THE HOTEL ENTERTAINMENT TEAM WAS OVER POWERING
THE RESORT WAS MODERN TAYLOR MADE FOR TOURISTS, BEACH LOVELY, SHOPS OK,
BARS & RESTURANTS PLENTIFUL
I WOULD ADVISE CAR HIRE -A TRIP TO THE PIRATE SHOW & THE GLASS BOTTOM BOAT
AT THE HOTEL THE STAFFS ENGLISH IS VERY LIMITED IT HAS TOTALLY PUT ME OFF ALL INCLUSIVE I THINK FOR THE ALL INCLUSIVE OPTION YOU DO SACRIFICE GOOD SERVICE & QUALITY

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for two weeks and had a superb time. Remember that it is not a five or four star it is a three star hotel.
Most of the complaints were of people who expected more out of a three star hotel than would ever be possible.
Animation team were great and did everything possible to keep you entertained if that is what you wanted.
The food is of a very high standard but can get a bit boring in the second week as their menu is not very diverse (but it’s still only three star!)
My two main criticisms were that the floors in the rooms were very dirty (back soles on your feet!) but the maid visited every day.
Also don't take for granted that the air con will cool you down as we found it to be ineffective in all parts of the hotel. This sometimes meant that public areas of the hotel were uncomfortable. Especially in the dining room.
All inclusive package was generous with draft wine in some area of the hotel that you can serve yourself.
The resort is small and clean, well worth a wander around the shops but do not go to this resort if you want to be in the hub of the nightlife, it is quiet and relaxing with not a lot to do locally which was fine for both of us.
The beach is also worth a visit as the water is warm and the sand is clean.
Overall I would recommend this hotel but manage your expectations as to the star rating as so many of the English residents did not, and embarrassed themselves by being serial complainers about the food choice and other aspects.

Just returned from the Hotel America and have to say what an excellent holiday we had. We had not been to the resort before and I did not check out any reviews until after we had booked. Most reviews were good but there were a couple that gave me a few doubts.
My doubts faded as soon as we arrived. The hotel was clean, the room was clean on arrival and with clean towels and maid service each day.
The food was excellent and as my husband is a chef I had been a bit cautious. He however raved about the variety of food. The pool was clean and patio area cleaned each day. Bar staff and entertainment staff were friendly and efficient.
The resort itself was lovely. It is not a huge resort but adequate enough that you could stroll up to the shops if night after dinner if you felt inclined. The beach was 4 mins if that, away from the poolside.
The hotel was in a prime location with beach and shops, restaurants etc close enough to it but without the noise of large resorts. Our children are 9 and 14 and both thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. We would definitely return as we found the entire holiday relaxing and the resort great.

As we only booked three weeks before the travel date I was a little worried about the comments on over-booking, so I rang the hotel before we went but I have to say that this hotel and it's staff were fantastic and we had no problem with our room.
The transfer from Palma took 1 hour (Shuttle Direct recommended!). The location of the hotel is superb as it is on a slight peninsular with sea views from all the rooms. The nearest beaches are literally two minutes away, the first beach (Cala Domingos was a bit crowded but we found a space) there are a lot of steps down though and I think less able would find access to the beach difficult, although I think there was a slope down somewhere.
Getting around the hotel was OK though. I was able to pop up from the beach to the bar to get drinks for the family (and a crafty beer or two for me!). The small town with it's shops and bars was about a five minute stroll down the road with a few rides and crazy golf for the kids. There were bars that had football on TV (watched Spurs lose 3-1 at home to Everton.... gutted!).
The hotel was very clean and our room was done every day. The food was varied and there was always something available from 0800 to 0000 (the burgers from the snack bar were delicious!). The Ice cream was in little tubs of which there was an everlasting supply (Even low fat ones! you could eat healthy as well!). My wife was able to stick to her Rosemary Connelly diet and lost weight still enjoying the food (I have no will power!). I knocked one point off because the barbeque man didn't cook my steak right one night (so I had to have two more and a couple of Sangrias till he got it right!, but that is me being fussy!).
The beer was San Miguel which is OK when it's hot and there was plenty of choice of soft drinks cocktails and spirits. I never saw anyone drunk while we were there and the whole place is great for families with activities during the day (knocked out first round Table Tennis both times! by two ex world champs....not!) and the mini disco for the kids in the evening with entertainment after, which to be honest I did not pay much attention to. There was table tennis and pool if you wanted, a games room and computers if you could get on them! (I went on holiday to get away from my computer!).
There were bars nearby that did British beers but not for real ale enthusiasts! (You guys go to Blackpool or somewhere, this is Spain mate..!). Excursions were available directly booked at the reception and there was a good bus service right outside the hotel and a train thingy that went round the resort for a few euros. We went on a trip to the Aqualand water park and the hotel did a packed-up lunch for us with the basics for a picnic. There is also a dive shop right outside the hotel on the way to the beach (E80 for a beginner) and boat trips that could be booked from a shop and cafe just up from the beach.
The sea was very clear and great for snorkelling and the beach was safe for kids with a life guard and signal system. We were also able to do some fishing with our telescopics in the area and caught Wrasses and Sea Bream things (good fight on light tackle!). That's enough of my garbelling. We had a great holiday, Callas de Mallorca/America Hotel is a quiet beautiful resort which I would go back to tomorrow (shhhh... don't tell anyone!).

I'm just back from a weeks stay in Hotel America. I thought I’d post a review as I’d used this site to review the hotel before I went. I was nervous, ready to argue my case regarding overbooking if they tried to move me to a different hotel! I need not have worried.
The flight was the worst part - monarch airlines and wide hips....ouch! The hotel is in a lovely location, right beside the sea. The sea is accessed by steps at the back of the property - takes less than 3 minutes. There is also a lovely scenic walk all around the hotel by the coast. There are plenty of shops just 5 minutes up the road from the hotel along with plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants.
Kids will be in heaven! The hotel organises kid club activities: pool, mini golf, kids disco, t-shirt making, pony rides, table tennis, archery and many others. Activities are also arranged for adults; water polo, aerobics, football, volley ball etc.
The hotel itself was very clean. Towels are changed and rooms cleaned daily.
I recommend giving the maid a small tip - extra towels, soaps and pillows! The food was fab. I had reservations about meals at a 3 star hotel but was really surprised. Food is clean and well cooked. There is a good/average variety...just don't eat one of everything the first few nights! Deserts are too nice. When the restaurant is closed there are two other bars that serve food and not just pizza, burgers and chips, you can also get fruit or salad and ice-cream. Drinks were great. I was told they were weak by some seasoned drinkers but I found them fine!
The only downfall is the sunbed war! Beds are only released at 9am. I recommend, if you're an early bird to go down to the sunbeds facing the steps for the beach, just down from the pool. Porters often don't bother bringing all the beds up to the pool area! Plus the trees make great shade if the weather is really hot, you can move from sun to shade as much as you want!

Just got back from Hotel America in Majorca with our 2 girl’s ages 3 and 5. The first thing that struck me about the resort - which I was not expecting - was that it is quite a breezy part of Majorca.
The weather throughout our 10 days was, on the whole, sunny and warm, but we did get a bit of cloud from time to time, and one evening we even had thunder and lightning - with light drizzle. We weren't expecting this for mid-August. The hotel is in quite an exposed area, and the wind was quite nice at times - keeping you from getting too hot, but I remember one evening (after dark) it was quite something - although it wasn't a cold wind.
The resort has lots of shops within easy walking distance (a couple of minutes), bars, restaurants, (a Burger King!), pub, night club (didn't go in it though) and there were rides for toddlers (but didn't see much for older kids).
The Hotel America is located in a "dead end,” so there is no annoying noise from traffic at all. There is a bus stop outside the hotel and buses will take you to neighbouring resorts - even Palma if you so wish. In our experience the buses were not reliable and were filthy, but cheap. We went to Porto Cristo on the bus - it was late on the outward journey and we paid 2 different fares going and coming back! I have never been on such a filthy, tatty bus. But it got us where we wanted to go - so hey! Who cares?
You can get a glass-bottom boat or a catamaran to the resorts going north of Callas De Mallorca. We got the boat (18 Euros each - return, free for under 6s) to Porto Cristo. We went to see the Caves of Drach.
So, the hotel. We were put in the new annexe building - so weren't in the main Hotel building. Our room was nice and big and had 4 beds in it. All the rooms in the hotel have a sea view and the majority have a balcony - albeit a bit small. Our room was nice, had air conditioning and a swipe card instead of a key, which controlled the electricity and therefore it needed to be in the 'slot' for the air conditioning to work. Therefore, you couldn't go out and have the air-conditioning on all day. We had a maid clean our room every day and give us clean towels. There was a bit of noise from the room above - but they were a particularly inconsiderate family, we believe.
The all inclusive hotel meant that all the food is free - most of the drink is free - you would only pay for a drink if you ordered a branded drink (e.g., a Jack Daniels). You wouldn't pay if you ordered - "a bourbon.” We didn't pay for any drinks at all. The hotel had many different locations for obtaining drinks: lounge areas, a bar, outside by the pool, and in the pizza/pasta bar.
The food at the hotel was nice - I can't complain about it really - there was a lot of choice every day and as a result - my jeans are a bit tight now!
Entertainment - kids club (for young children), activities throughout the day - even for adults, pool tables, table tennis table, and 3 swimming pools. In the evening there is a mini disco for the youngsters, bingo, and then a show of some sort.
If you want to spend the day by the pool, you can get lunch at the poolside (order chips, burgers, hot dogs, or get sandwiches, fruit, etc). Or you can go in the pizza/pasta bar from 12 noon to midnight. There is also a barbecue in the evenings - but we didn't try it as we always went to the main restaurant for our evening meals. If you want to go out for the day - you can order a picnic lunch to take with you the night before.
The only complaints I would make about the hotel were that the swimming pools were REALLY cold! My skinny 5 year old daughter kept getting blue lips! The wind didn't help when she got out and every time she went swimming, she got out shivering!
The other complaint was the sunbed reserving situation. There were not enough sun beds for this time of year and if you wanted one, you'd have to get up and wait by the chained-up sunbeds and stake your claim to however many you wanted. When they were unchained (about 9am) you could then claim them by putting your towels on them. What a pain that was. We only did this twice in our 10 days. If was such a faff and ridiculous!
The beach was just a couple of minutes away down quite a lot of steps. It was crowded, but the sea was lovely (warmer than the pools!), but the wind (and the glass-bottom boats) meant that there were a lot of waves and my 5 year old kept getting mouthfuls of sea water!
On the whole, a good holiday. Not sure I'd go again though.

Just back from this hotel and overall was very impressed with it. There was a party of 16 of us and had no problems checking in, got rooms together and the rooms were all clean with great views of the sea.
The location was perfect with the beach right beside you so you can pop back for drinks.
The food was great and catered for everyone. There was a wide selection for all tastes and the quality was exceptional.
On the down side to this hotel, was the beer and wine. It is not strong at all and was quite bland. Not all the staff were friendly and our room was 7 floors above the disco but still heard music every night.
All in all a very pleasant hotel and would go back.
