We stayed at the balkaya in july 2010 and we wish we never did! There was a very big yellow frog in our sink when we arrived! Had to pay £5 a day for air con, it was very very noisy, the cleaners spend all morning chatting outside in the corridoors which echos and wakes... more

This has probably been THE worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Dog mess around the swimming pool, staff rude, unhelpful and downright con artists. If staff weren't so busy drinking in the bar and charging it to unsuspecting guests they may have time to clean the place. ... more

All the bad reviews you read are so very true. This was supposed to be a 3 star hotel it came nowhere close to that. It should be closed down. Rooms were not cleaned for 9 days. Sheets were only changed on the 6th day after we asked them to change them. Shower was broke and... more

We had a fantastic stay here!
Felt i needed to write a review after seeing some ot the other bad reviews about this hotel. We have just returned from a one-week trip to this hotel and found the room clean and well-kept, the facilities a good standard and the staff all very friendly and helpful and welcoming!very much recommended!
its ok as a base
our second year at this hotel , same management diffrent staff , the rooms were clean , but we wont be going back . the manager sent his waiter to ask us WHY we did,nt have dinner at the hotel , we ate there last year & the food was cold . We were b/b so we could eat where we wanted , people we met told us it was chicken most nights . The staff were great & very helpful but the manager was only interested if you ate & drank at the hotel . we will never go back
Happy days
We had a wonderful holiday at this hotel. It was quiet and peaceful. Villi and his staff were so friendly and helpful. The room was confortable and clean with a beautiful view. The atmosphere was great - we enjoyed the evenings having a drink at the bar warmed by the chiminea. The location was spectacular - one of the best backdrops to a swimming pool you could have. It was a short pleasant walk into Hiseranou.
Bates Hotel!!!
Went to the Balkaya hotel at the end of August and it was initially, what we expected for the money we payed. It was a last minute holiday for us and as students we didn't have a lot spare. We had a nice basic room, although the wardrobe doors came off their hinges and the shower was temperamental (as in usually very cold). The staff were very friendly (minus the owner) and made you feel welcome, but when you needed anything fixing or wanted to order food or a drink from the bar, there wasn't always anyone available...or if there was then it took ages to sort it out. Around the pool area: pool nice enough until you saw one of the staff's children spitting in and around the pool. There also seemed to be a big problem with wildlife, especially chickens and chicken waste around the pool table and eating area. Being young adults, these problems would not of affected our holiday in the slightest as we liked to venture off to the town or beach..but the treatment we recieved right at the end of our holiday was awful. The staff informed us that our holiday company had gone bankrupt..so they hadn't recieved any money, we told them that we couldn't afford to pay them again, they said it would be fine to pay them when we got back to the UK. Then on our last day the owner came down and abusively shouted at my boyfriend infront of the other guests, demanding to be payed or they wouldn't let us leave the hotel..even worse, call the police! In the end, thanks to a lovely couple we had met in our hotel, they helped us out with the money.
What you'd expect
I stayed here in the Summer 2007 (june) moved here from the Magico Bronzo where is was supposed to stay ... (it was awful) Granted the guy on reception cant speak english but i cant speak Turkish... !!! The hotel is basic... its a 2 star so what do people expect... ?? the rooms are clean and yes occassionally there is no hot water but this happens all over Turkey not just here.... The location of the hotel is perfect for getting to Hisaronu where the bars and restaruants are plentiful and mostly very good .... Staff, well what can i say .. i met a few of these guys last year when they worked at the Green Forest (which is also rubbish)and for what they get paid and the hours they work i take my hat of to them ... and at the end of the day they only work there they dont own it... All in all meet some great people in the summer at this hotel and had some great drunken nights ....
Dont go here!!
I have just come back from Holiday in Turkay and we stayed at this hotel. The area we stayed in was great and I'd recomend it to anyone but book somewhere else to stay please!! The rooms were tiny with a little balcony (the light on the balcony didn't work). We also had a small onsuite bathroom with a broken shower, toilet seat, toilet flush (the handle was really loose, but did still work) and loose taps on the sink. When we arrived we were sent to the wrong room and then 10 minutes later told to move into a room which was exactly the same down the corridor the air conditioning and safe deposit boxes were very expensive but as the bell boy/waiter who brought our cases up to the room had already demanded a tip from us and when we said we didn't have any turkish money yet he instead we gave him english I didn't dare leave our documents and money unsecured. The receptionist spoke no English, but the guests were not made aware of this so when we asked if we could have the shower and outside light fixed he smiled and nodded but then nothing got done(four times we asked before talking to the barman, who told us as the receptionist didn't understand us he hadn't been able to help). The one day we did spend by the hotel pool we were treated to a Basil Faulty style arguement between a young couple and the owner as their travel company had folded after they had left Britain and the manager insisted that they payed him for their stay before leaving, another couple thyed to calm the arguement down and were also insulted. The only nice thing I can say about the hotel is that the breakfast was nice (traditional turkish) and fresh every morning and the rooms were kept clean.
BRILLANT!!
Ignore the other reviews about this hotel. We had a brilliant time. I am a single mother with a daughter of 9 and when reading the reviews on this hotel before we went it was safe to say i was absolutely dreeding it. HOW WRONG I WAS!! We were the first drop from the coach and it was 6 o clock in the evening. The hotel was clean and the man on the reception spoke good english, they all did. The rooms were small, but clean. The maids came EVERY day. They were air conditioned and you do only sleep in them! The food was cooked fresh and the drinks were fine. The pool area was lovely and we met loads of families. They look out for the kids and even put a projector up at nights and play DVD's. We loved it and would go back no problem, the only downfall we had was booking 1 week instead of 2. The old saying, you have to see it to believe it!!!
loved it
25th June 2007 trip advisor member - manchester Booked a late deal to Balkaya Hotel. I then read the reports and was a little worried, but as we had such a good deal went but not expecting much. How wrong we were. It's a small hotel, just changed hands this season. Arrived early morning to a pleasant receptionist, yes his English isn't great but better than my turkish. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms are a decent size, the bathrooms are small but you only have a shower etc there. The balconies are an ok size, plenty of room for 2 chairs and a table. And the view is just superb. With a lovely mountain breeze. The pool is an ok size in proportation to the hotel, but when hotel is busy there is a problem getting a sunbed, mainly because people put towels on them and then go off, not using them. Hisaronu is a 10-15 min walk away, really nice place to go for an evening meal. So much choice, never had one bad meal. The best was the Moonlight Terrace, the steaks are wonderful, and try the chefs suprise steak, superb. The Piano Bar comes a close second. 6 island boat trip great value for money, but give the diving a miss, there's no fish, and I mean NO fish. Cant fault the hotel, the staff, the location and the scenery. It's certainly a place I will be going again.
Very Very Poor
The most horrible place i have ever stayed. Our first night we were told to sleep on the sofas in the reception as our flight was delayed. We were then shown our room which was so damp i could not stay there. Our second room was better but didnt have any Hot water and sometimes no Cold either. The food was awfull. It was left out in the sun and generally tasted bad!. The drinks were heavily watered down with TAP water which caused evryone in the hotel to be sick. Avoid if you can. Yes its cheap! Yes you really do get what you pay for!
don't go
Depends on what you expect. We got a cheap deal and did not expect this at all if I wanted a youth hostel I would have asked for one. All inclusive basis but no one would know as the food was terrible and you were in the middle of nowhere. No running cold water in the room at all. The rooms however were clean.
