We stayed at the balkaya in july 2010 and we wish we never did! There was a very big yellow frog in our sink when we arrived! Had to pay £5 a day for air con, it was very very noisy, the cleaners spend all morning chatting outside in the corridoors which echos and wakes you up!, no disbaled access. The drinks were very expensive, 5lire for a large coke when in the shop down the road you could buy a whole bottle for 2lire, You werent allowed to bring food and drink in so we had to sneek around the back. It is swarming with wasps, the staff are rude, they are con artists and will dislike you if you dont buy food and drink from them. There was 2 channels on the tv in english, bbc world news and a very old film channel. No entertainment, very basic rooms. A dirt track to the hotel is to the main road. No air con in reception. Had to wake up very early to put towels down on the sunbeds. Very dirty poolisde. Basically. Crap!

The first night I stayed their I was keep up till 5.45 in the morning.
The hotel rates it self as 3* I would give it a one star
My friends stayed at the Ova resort 15mins away and I spend all of my time their it was excellent stuff going on all days for the kids good foods staff were excellent if I was to go back to Turkey I would stay their and that was also 3* hotel

A Great Holiday

We were a bit concerned going to the Balkaya after reading some of the reviews although we needn't have worried. It was a great holiday and a really friendly hotel with friendly/helpful staff.
We stayed with our 2 children for 2 weeks bed and breakfast although half board was available. The family room was a duplex with a double bed, shower and toilet upstairs and 2 singles downstairs, balcony and toilet. Rooms were cleaned daily and towels and linen regularly changed.
The hotel is in a great location, just off the main Fethiye-Oludeniz road and just a 15 minute walk from Hisaronu.
We met some lovely people and had a great time - our 11 year old said it was the best hotel he has ever stayed in - we will definitely be back.

Don't stay at this hotel!

This has probably been THE worst hotel I have ever stayed at.
Dog mess around the swimming pool, staff rude, unhelpful and downright con artists.
If staff weren't so busy drinking in the bar and charging it to unsuspecting guests they may have time to clean the place. Broken glass swept into the 'flower' bed, dogs and cats drinking out of the pool and extremely loud music playing from 8.00 am until 1.30 am the following day. On one occasion until 4.00 am the following morning. Pool not cleaned until the rep told the manager to get it cleaned. Lights out on stairs and in corridors making it almost impossible to find your room as there are no windows in the upstairs of the reception area. Bed sheets ripped and bedding and towels only changed twice in 10 days.
Door handle to the balcony fell off in my hand - only held on with one screw!
Constant threats of the police being called/or being thrown out of the hotel if you don't like what the staff want to do.
Bags searched to stop you taking crisps/drinks or chocolate snacks etc into the hotel.
The place is a shambles - don't stay there it is the pits.

Hotel room clean and attended to every day by Phylis and her crew of happy cleaners. The food is good although I prefered to eat al acarte for a more varied choice. I would recommend this hotel if your looking for a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Will defenatly be returning soon. Hello to Osman David, Soloman, Rosa ans all thae staff Thanks for a great time.

stayed at balkaya for 2 weeks, may13th to 28th. wouldnt go back.Room was basic, unfortunately bathroom left a lot to be desired. There was mould in it, the toilet leaked whenever it was flushed and we had ants and flies that came up from the back of the sink, i spent the last 4 days of holiday cleaning up flies, luckily they crawled out and died and werent flying around, there was approx 50 bodies at any one time. The staff werent interested in us as we didnt spend lots of time at the bar or spend money on food. from the few times we sat at the bar, paying for our drinks as we got them, it became apparent that the staff were drinking plenty but not paying for them, we witnessed one member of staff adding drinks onto tabs for rooms that hadnt been requested by the guests, this is probably were the bills come from that guests dispute. Some of the staff need to improve their personal hygiene, one member of staff wore the same clothes for the whole 2 weeks and from the smell i would say neither them or him were washed. The weather wasnt as good as usual so hot water wasnt available for days on end and we had to get washed by boiling a kettle that we bought in the town. in general the standards of the hotel were very disappointing. Forgot to mention that the bedding was always damp and that the evening meals were cold even though they were only served. I could go on but i think it is clear that we will not be returning.

i have just got back from balkaya i stayed there by myself for 2 weeks. recently i went there for 8 weeks for august 2009 but i loved it so much i needed to return. i do not beleive some of the comments which have been posted for the amount you pay for this hotel you really cannot complain. the swimming pool is excellent and very clean. the staff are very nice and polite. restraunt food was very nice and not expensive so most days i had eaten in. the first from i have was a family room which i shared with my 2 children also a friend was really lovely. when you walk in had 2 sofa beds then spiral stairs going up to a room with a double bed also anouther room with a single bed which it was like a small house and very clean. when i went by myself i had a double bed which it was quite a large room and also very clean.

I go on holiday to Turkey every year 5 or 6 times, i have never been to a hotel this appalling in all my times of being there.
I had a clean room, but that is where the niceties end.
Found the management rude, staff were rude especially the bar staff.
Some staff could have done with a shower as they smelt of body odour, dont think they knew what personal hygiene was.
I witnessed a member of staff making orange juice for breakfast, using water from the hosepipe in the garden.
There were no english speaking staff.
The food: There were ants in the bread.
Breakfast was very poor, hardly anything to eat. No fruit.
Staff were standing around doing nothing and they wouldnt help out when there was plenty to be done. They would be better to spend more time doing what they should be doing instead of counting the money they are conning out of the customers.
Other food in the hotel was very poor, sometimes inedible.
Guests were arriving and were having to sleep in reception as there were no rooms available for them.
Guests were expected to eat and drink at the hotel, those who didnt were treated like dirt. They expected you to spend all your time and money in the hotel and nowhere else. Those of us that did go out to eat and drink the staff wouldnt look as us or speak to us when we went back to the hotel.
The water always seemed to go off when the guests where getting showered and changed to go out. We were supposed to have tv's but they didnt work.
We were given a room over the bar and were kept awake from all the noise and music. We were lucky if we got 2 hours sleep in a night.
We left the hotel one week early and paid to stay at a different hotel. We couldnt stay here any longer as we had to get some sleep.
We were overcharged at the bar for drinks, there were drinks added onto the bill that we hadnt had. They even charged you for phoning for a taxi.
A member of staff threw a glass at a guest.
There was vomit in the downstairs toilet, it was still there 18hrs later.
A guest cut his foot in the pool, there was blood in the pool from the cut and no body was interested that there was blood in the pool and the rest of the guests were left to swim in it.
There was no entertainment except what you made yourself.
The management and staff need a course on running a hotel and customer relations.
The hotel also need some proper english speaking staff incase of emergencies.
This hotel is the hotel from hell.
If it is the last hotel in turkey i would never go there again.
We had a lot of our meals and drinks at the nazar restaurant on the way to Hisaronu, where we were treated with respect and had brilliant staff serving us.

DANGER:- NEVER AGAIN

All the bad reviews you read are so very true. This was supposed to be a 3 star hotel it came nowhere close to that. It should be closed down. Rooms were not cleaned for 9 days. Sheets were only changed on the 6th day after we asked them to change them. Shower was broke and kept falling off the wall, never any hot water. Had to ask for toilet paper all the time.
The food was the same everyday, no variety at all for breakfast. The evening meal was (well I can't put it into words) NASTY. The only change was chicken nuggets to moussaka, no traditional turkish kebabs, which is what we thought we would get occassionally at least.
As for the staff they was ok when you arrived, but as soon as they realised you weren't heavy drinkers and spending lots of money at the bar they basically didn't want to know you. There was absolutely no hospitality at all. (DISGUSTING). One manager (who we thought was ok left after 3 days. 2 cleaners walked out (not that they done much anyway).
Would I recommend this hotel to anybody NO DEFINITELY NOT. We weren't the only guests to complain everyone we spoke to at the hotel had the same problems. We told our rep and he claimed he'd had 20 compliants so far.
The hotel is also further from the beach than is lead to believe.

I thought in respect to the reviews I have read that I would write an honest review. Balkaya is a lovely hotel. The staff are so friendly and helpful. They are superb hosts and great entertainment. It has the perfect mix of a lively yet relaxıng hotel. It is a short walk to Hisaronu which is extremely lively and the surrounding area is beautiful too. I don't understand the negative reviews on this hotel. The rooms may seem basic to the upper class ındividual however I think they are comfortable and they have everything you need here including Wi-Fi access. I don't think you could ask for much more for the good price I paıd to stay here.
