Hotel Description:
One of the most prestigious hotels in Crete, the Grecotel Creta Palace is almost a resort in itself. Elegantly furnished throughout, the main building is surrounded by three garden room villages set in colourful landscaped gardens. Right by a fine sandy beach and five kilometres from the centre of Rethymnon, among the key features here are a large seawater pool and a traditional Cretan village square with a selection of shops, a typical Greek café and even a private chapel. loading...

" THIS WAS MY FOURTH VISIT TO THE CRETA... "

THIS WAS MY FOURTH VISIT TO THE CRETA PALACE AND THIS YEAR WAS VERY DISSAPOINTED. THEY HAD REFIRBISHED THE DINNING ROOM AND THOUGH WE HAD BOOKED ALA CARTE IT WAS NOT.
THE RESTERANT REMINDED ME OF A COMPANY CANTEEN ALTHOUGH VERY CLEAN WAS
LACKING ATMOSPHERE. THE FOOD WAS TERRIBLE.
UNFORTUNATLY WE WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO THIS HOTEL AS IT IS NO LONGER A TRANQIL HOLIDAY IT WAS FULL OF RUSSIAN CHILDREN SCREAMING AND RUNNING RIOT ROUND THE HOTEL OF A EVENING WHEN YOU REQUIRE TO SIT AND HAVE A QUITE DRINK.
THERE IS NO WERE ELSE TO GO AS YOU REQUIRE A TAXI TO GET THERE.
A VERY DISSAPOINTED HOLIDAY

" If it wasn't for the restaurant, I'd... "

If it wasn't for the restaurant, I'd have scored this as a 10/10!
Regrettably, the restaurant was let down by the organisation (or lack of it). The food variety/quality was faultless though. Guests should have been directed to a table rather than let wandering about aimlessly. Tables should also have been cleared/remade more promptly. Wine/drinks which were ordered were a little slow at arriving also. A bit more organisation and a few additional staff would have helped overall.
Everything else about the hotel is faultless though.
I was lead to believe that the rooms were small which is not the case - they are not the largest rooms but are adequate, well maintained and with everything you'd need, including a pull out airer on the balcony.
The hotel is everything you'd want - the public areas and pool are very clean and the beach area well maintained also. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. If you want it there is both daily and evening activities/entertainment. There is a shop on site which is the best equipped I've ever come across and from where you can buy bus tickets into town (the bus stop being just along from the entrance on the main road). Much cheaper than taxis and more fun!
We had a look at the Creta Palace hotel just up the road for comparison and this was most preferred.
Despite my comments about the restaurant, I would have no hesitation in returning here.

" Having stayed at one of Grecotels... "

Having stayed at one of Grecotels other hotels, the 5 star Rethymna Beach last year on full board we thought we'd try the Creta Palace 4k closer to Rethymnon and rated as one of the most luxurious hotels on Crete.
Whilst the quality of the hotel was good in our opinion it was not as luxurious or as elegant as the Reythmna Beach with less well kept grounds less comfortable public rooms and a poorer selection on food. Whilst being on the beach the location was poor with no shops or bars less than twenty minutes walk away down a busy road with many derelict shops and business premises.
The main pool was much smaller with sun beds being reserved from 9 am and not occupied in some cases until after lunch. This was due mainly to the large Russian contingent. (Not the Germans this time). Being half board guests the variety of available snacks and light lunches available was very limited indeed and the poor location of the hotel meant it was very difficult to find alternatives.

I've been to this Hotel 3 times now. It is one of the nicest places on earth. The staff are friendly and helpful. The facilities are also top notch. We staid in the main building facing the sea.
It is so nice I have suggested that my mum and dad get maried there

This place is fantastic. I’ve been with my family about 4 times now. After you’ve been once, it’s addictive!

The staff are all very friendly, the facilities are fabulous. Definitely value for money! During your stay you are treated like royalty. Nothing is too much trouble. The beach is gorgeous, kept really clean, and the sea is safe to swim in. The weather is perfect, if you like to get a tan, Crete is a great place to go.

There’s great facilities for younger people too, e.g. teenagers and children. It’s a place for everyone, whether you’re a family with teens, children, or you’re a couple wanting a romantic getaway. Don’t take my word for it though, check it out yourself!!

The hotel was full of children - most of them Russian we believe. The children were unruly and in the evenings would charge through the hotel and the bar completely out of control. We mentioned it to the hotel but it seemed to fall on deaf ears.
We have taken holidays all over the world but have never encountered this kind of behaviour before in what is supposed to be a five star hotel. Needless to say, we would not recommend it to anyone who is looking for a peaceful holiday. We would add that a couple from the UK who had stayed at this hotel on two separate occasions could not believe the change, for the worse, and added they would certainly not be returning there again. What a great shame for such a beautiful hotel.
