This apartment basically was an absolute s**t hole. That’s to put it bluntly. We stayed here with our three children and it was disgusting. We wrote to tour operator when we got back, and they replied very unsympathetically. I am now writing back to them and I am willing to take matters further.
We slept on the floor for a week all in the same room as it was filthy. How any one could rate this over a 1 star must be easily pleased I must say. I met many people who complained whilst I was there with my family. I’ve never been so glad to see sunny old Leicester. The towels was disgusting ,bed sheets filthy, floors well you could say black. No bloody lifts to take cases upstairs or down ,and I had a pushchair too. They never bloody worked. The pool was real dirty with god knows what floating in it. This place is a hellhole don’t go there. Whilst everyone is still going they wont do a damned thing.
The only good thing about Salou was the 19th hole around the corner. They do fabulous food and the people are lovely.

Jul 2005, Mr W Wood

This apartments was partly-clean, when I say partly I mean, the maids were there every few days cleaning, my mum got on great with the maids even though they couldn’t speak a word of English!, on the other hand the floors were extremely dusty and mucky, I once walked around the apartment with no shoes or flip flops on, I looked at my feet they were literally - BLACK, I’m not joking, they were filthy, the apartments were really quite efficiently sized, considering, my mum, me, my sister and dad were there, we were self catering, so we had to find our own restaurants to eat at, we would recommend anyone going to Salou and who is self catering, to go to, Richards tavern, my mum, got this chicken, chips and side salad, which come to around 5 or 6 €'s and the plates are well -MASSIVE- now my dad can usually eat alot, but he could manage only half!, well other restaurants might give you a plat like yours at home, well, Richards tavern, on the kids menu gives them a right lot of grub on that sized plate, and the adults menu, double sized maybe even triple, the facilities there included a sun terrace on the roof, swimming pool, elevators and that’s all I can remember, but I would recommend anyone going, and wants to go on the roof - WEAR FLIP-FLOPS!, mainly because I didn’t, boy do I wish I did, you literally burn your feet - ouch-, also, if you are on the third or second floor, I would recommend using the stairs, the elevators kept switching off when we were in them there was one night we were in there for about 30 mins!.

Jul 2005, Mrs N Humble

When we arrived at the apartments we found that they were absolutely disgusting filth is the only word for it. Cleaners what cleaners reps what reps, they kept changing as they could not handle the complaints. Towels and bedding changed once in a fortnight one lot of loo rolls so we had to buy our own. There was not one person in these apartments who did not have a complaint. The bath sinks etc stunk to high heaven and the cleaning utensils were disgusting. 110 euros deposit against breakages over the holiday, what a joke the dam stuff was rubbish to start with.
Well that sums it up so if you have booked this place I would think twice and change it .it was an absolute disgusting disgrace not fit to house pigs in as I think they would of lodged a complaint. I wont stop at this as I will be contacting tour operator to find out there excuses plus the holiday photo in the holiday book is absolutely wrong and a con as it shows the hotel part 100 yards further up the road. You should be ashamed of yourselves for taking innocent holidaymakers money off them. Sorry about this complaint but I am only speaking as I found

This is the worst holiday I have ever...
1 / 10
Jul 2005, Mrs P Chahal

This is the worst holiday I have ever had!
When my family actually arrived at this dump they call the Mariposa Apartments, we were disgusted with the room, the smell, there is only 1 word for this place and that is filth!
There were dirty floors....Dirty linen....Dirty towels, everything was really filthy!
we arrived at 3am, so we just went to sleep, we were so tired, but the following morning we noticed all of the towels were dirty and smelly and the bed linen had stains on it like it hadn’t been changed for weeks, we had flickering lights and the fridge would turn on and off when it felt like it! They keep a £80 deposit off you on arrival. It is best to point out all the problems as soon as you can otherwise they will probably keep your deposit.
The staff and the rep were hardly there and when they were, they were rude and useless, really didn’t care. The rep had that many complaints she was in tears, she told people that they can move to another hotel about a mile away which would be a down grade to a 2*+ at a extra charge of 500euros. I was told at the welcome meeting that if I want to move it will cost me around 700euros to do so.
I wished I had stayed at home, definitely a waste of money.
should not be rated a 3* probably not even a 2*
You do not want to stay here, believe me!

I’m 16 and just got back from...
8 / 10
Jul 2005, Not Specified

I’m 16 and just got back from Salou. I was really worried after reading some of the reviews on here and other web pages because I didn’t want to tell my family because I knew they would just say no we’re not going if they read the reviews.
When we got there we thought they were brilliant. They were clean, spacious and even had a T.V which wasn’t mentioned in the brochure. Our towels were not small or discoloured and the corridors were brilliant because they contained huge mirrors. No the corridors and lifts were not the most amazing I’ve seen, but do you go on holiday to look at corridors and use lifts anyway?
The lifts were also brilliant because if you pressed '0' you were at the shops :) and by taking the lift to '7' you could enjoy the rooftop terrace, which there again is great. There are benches, beds and showers where you can enjoy the breeze and get a great tan at the same time!!
The swimming pool was not the largest in the world but it was a great size for how many use it and there is also a lifeguard there everyday of the week. The noise was the only problem we had an issue about because we were situated above the "19th Hole" but once you’ve had a busy day in Salou you will be asleep as soon as you hit the pillow anyway.
Port Aventura was really good and you have to go on Dragon Kharn which is amazing!! A little tip for you, I would leave it until about 6pm to go because that’s when the locals on coach trips go home and you have to stay for the firework display as it is spectacular and kids will love it.
If you go the water park, which is alot of fun, make sure you carry plenty of sun cream especially with children because there is no shade unless you go into the indoor pools. I would definitely recommend the Mariposa and Salou to anyone because you will enjoy it so much!! Have a wonderful holiday!! XX ;)

The apartment was quite basic however...

Jul 2005, Mr J Peachey

The apartment was quite basic however with a bunch of us teenagers going to a foreign country we found the hotel very good.
It was close to all the clubs and transport, we did find a few problems with the room as the blinds do not operate properly the wooden chairs did break and the locks on doors do fall off, also the lifts like to stop in between floors. At night there is alot of drunken people, which makes the noise very loud, but the police take care of that as there is always police in cars or on the beat. The beach isn’t that far from the resort easily walking distance.
I personally think the things that spoil Salou is there is no drainage and when it rains you end up falling over and it could spoil the rest of your holiday, also there are some people trying to sell you drugs or jewellery but on the whole the apartment is for sleeping in most of the time you are out enjoying what the country has to offer.

Jul 2005, Mrs A Daly

I was actually stunned to read some of the other comments about this accommodation.
Firstly yes it was basic but we were self catering, Our room was clean and tidy and the maids cleaned on the 3 days they were there, although the towels were fairly small we had our own as there was no mention in the brochure of towels being supplied nor would I have expected them on a self catering basis.
As for the noise it is clearly marked in the brochure about the possible noise levels and I have to wonder why people who are obviously not there to enjoy themselves book such a place when there are plenty of quieter locations they could have gone to. We had 2 children with us and we all enjoyed our holiday very much.
We had sufficient access to the safety deposit box as the hours of opening are quite clear and you take out money accordingly. I would certainly return to the Mariposa.

Not the best holiday ever I have to...
1 / 10
Jun 2005, Mrs A Wood

Not the best holiday ever I have to be honest. When we arrived there was no rep to meet us at the airport and despite the fact we paid in advance for a coach to take us to the apartments we ended up paying almost 30 euros to get there by bus. the apartments were dirty, I was forever bleaching the floors in ours to try and keep the ants at bay.
Salou its self was noisy and smelly with rubbish piled up on every corner! I am really writing this review to warn people be careful where you eat in town as I stood on a cockroach it was about 7" long and in a sports ware shop right next door to a restaurant. I don’t really know what else to say if your a party animal that loves to live in dirt then you will be right at home. I wouldn’t recommend it for families with young children.
Oh and be careful of the lifts as they simply don’t work and when they do they stop when your between floors or get you to your floor and then the doors jam leaving you trapped until in my case my husband pulled them apart. I dread to think what would have happened if it had been a child in the lift alone.

Three girls went to the Costa Daurada...
5 / 10
Jun 2005, Ms D Harvey

Three girls went to the Costa Daurada on an allocation on arrival basis and were guaranteed 3* s/c. So we ended up in the Mariposa apartments.
The purpose of our trip was to go to Barcelona, Tarragona, and Port Aventura... and we managed all three with ease due to the brilliant local transport. There was a bus stop 30 m either direction from our apartments, which took us directly to Tarragona and Port Aventura for a few euros. Barcelona was only 1 and half hours on the train for 10.20 euros return.
As for the Mariposa you need to leave a deposit of 110 euros upon arrival. the corridors and room were not clean. The rooms were not cleaned and the floor was dirty, also we had to buy toilet roll as only one was left every two days. The towels were small and grey (instead of white).
Very limited reception hours, which is were the safety deposit boxes are located. In all this is certainly not 3* accommodation but on par with hostel accommodation with a rubbish pool. The positive is the location for exploring the Costa Daurada. The reception staff were also very helpful in terms of advice for travelling beyond Salou. Be warned Salou is quite dirty including the beach.
Overall we had a great holiday and had no problems with noise, which other guests have commented on.

Very basic apartments and not clean....
5 / 10
Jun 2005, Mrs C Baxter

Very basic apartments and not clean. All breeze block and dingy.
Cleaners did not clean only left towels (which were not great). Pool area not well positioned for sun - mostly in shade although roof terrace good. Reception staff were great and faults reported were immediately dealt with.
We got a new table for the balcony and a new shower head when requested. Reception closed during the day and then closed at 9pm until 9.30am, which caused difficulties if money required. Location of apartments meant that view from balcony was over the street and shops and bars below so not a very pleasant view.
Cooking facilities in the apartment were great. Four ring cooker and all rings worked. Grill and oven worked and a toaster was supplied. Plenty of pots pans and crockery supplied. Local transport good. I suppose if you were 18 to 25 this would be a good holiday location.
For families and those of us a bit more mature it’s not great!

The people rating this hotel 1/10 are...

May 2005, S Cuskeran

The people rating this hotel 1/10 are talking a load of rubbish. These apartments are clean and very spacious. We were there for a week in the beginning of June and we had no problems at all with the apartments. The pool was a good size and also had a children’s part for young ones. There are a lot of sun loungers placed all around the pool and the pool area is kept clean. They are also located in a suitable place as there are several shopping centres right outside of the apartments. There are 3 bars out side of the apartments but after 12 you cannot hear the noise. It is only a 10 minute walk to the beach and you walk down the street to all the main bars and shopping area... I was very please with these apartments and would go back again x

Sep 2004, Miss l Peart

You have to book in before 9pm or you will be sleeping outside. The location was ok and salou was brilliant, but the apartments were basically a dump, the view is of the dirty shop roofs, the rooms were not very clean, black marks all in the bath, toilets keep breaking. You couldn’t eat in your room cause the cooker was disgusting. The pool was dirty. I wouldn’t advise anyone to stay these apartments
