A Hotel With Problems
from Judith2006
We stayed at the Alexandra because the Hotel Leo was overbooked. We stayed during the school half term holidays. The desk clerk grunted at us on arrival. First impressions were good. We were given a room on the 2nd floor which was very convenient. I was a little concerned because the balcony rail was loose. Meals were dissappointing but edible and the wine waiter ignored us throughout our stay. What I found really strange was that there were only about 100 people staying at the hotel, of which only 7 were children. This was during the school half term holidays. The hotel capacity should be about 500 - 600 guests. Why was the hotel so empty? During our stay I noticed that the Alexandra was a little tired and run down. The evenings entertainment was an old man playing tunes on a keyboard.
OK but ???

This hotel was ok but we had some problems when we were there from 4th to 14th May 2007... on arrival the clerk at the desk just gave a grunt ? and was as helpful as a bear with a sore head...there was no info given about the essential phone numbers or how to contact reception from your room ... nothing said about the passage to the beach or when it was open or closed ...the room was small and the room cleaning was not the best ...air conditioning was not working ....we have had better at other hotels and the sheets were changed once in 10 days... this Hotel is not geared for English speaking tourists ... there was entertainment ( of a sort ) ... ...Italian .. French ..and Spanish was the order of the day .. deposit for tv remote ( only English speaking channels were cnn and euro sport ) food was good with a good selection .... plenty sun beds round the small pool but no mattress on them ... ( hard ) great locataion for the beach , just round the corner or thru the passage takes you bang on the front about 10 yards from the sea ... service at the bar depended on whether the bar man was talking to someone or not ...even if he saw you waiting... over all I would say the Hotel is ok ...even if there was some iffy bits...which will change from person to person ... you do not spend your holiday in the room ... so give it a try , but take a couple of good books.... one last point...this hotel takes parties of school children in the age range of 12 to 14 ? so ask for a room on floor 5 or 6 ...we did not ... and what a racket at times....
Good hotel - shame about the weather
from Salcrow
Hotel only 5 mins from the airport - resort attractive, ideal for walkers or cyclists as a cycle path runs along the coast. Airport noise not a problem. Rooms clean and well looked after - we had a beautiful view. Staff efficient. I thought the food was very good, a good selection and it was hot and varied. The desserts too were varied, something for everyone. We had terrible weather, could have been better if the pool was heated to a temp that we could have swum in. Hardly any English in hotel and most guests were over 65!! Saying that there were no lager louts either!! A good value for money holiday, shame about the weather - would be fine from June onwards especially if you are a Spanish or Italian Oap who likes a good chat!!
Great Hotel

Booked a week in Can Pastilla, for a break before going back to work after an operation. Were a little put of after reading (Feb 14th ) report, but very glad we went ahead with the booking. The hotel was very clean the room was very nice and very clean. The food was good if a bit spanish, but we were on holiday in Spain the one down side was chips every night. But there was rice or pasta as well, two or three meat and two or three fish dishes each night. A good time was had by us both.
5 nights was plenty long enough!

As the Marina Luz was not open until 1st March(my original hotel choice) I was offered this hotel as an alternative as my arrival was 27th February. The reception was cool I thought, no real welcome, just 'matter of fact ' booked in and room allocated. Nice room with sea view. No tea making facilities however.Meal times were a 'free for all' select your own table and serve your self Only one knife and fork comprised the place setting.! Choice of cold food was reasonable and nicely presented. The hot meal selection was poor and usually over cooked and looked almost inedible!. However, the sweet selection was excellent with a wide choice along with fresh fruit, melon. pineapple, and cold baked apple!.. Breakfast was a real DIY,affair, get your own cutlery etc .Limited cereal choice, but dates, figs and prunes were available. The hot section was very poorly presented and not kept warm. I was disappointed generally with the food on offer. Three days passed before I was approached by the wine waiter, as a result I ate without either water or wine! The staff appeared too busy to attend a lone visitor.I do not think I shall be returning!
Alexandra the Not so Great.

We have just returned from a three night break from the above hotel. We were booked into another hotel, but it was still closed,so Alpha rooms offered this hotel as a alternative. We then read reviews about the Alexandra, which were all positive,so we went ahead Big Mistake. We were on the forth floor, with sea views, lower floors have a close-up of a sixty foot pine tree. Dinner was Arab Nite ,least i think it must have been since nearly all the food was grey! After an attempt at finding something that wasnt either limp, dry,or not drowning in some sort of oily slurry we gave up & dined out, optimistically thinking breakfast would be better, We retired to our room early, only to be awaked by a cockroach foraging for supper, all attempts at his demise were halted when Colin,as he was later called.dissappeared back under the bath. the rest of the night was spent with the light on.Breakfast TimeThe dining room had not been cleaned from last night,so the floor was littered with debris,& dirty linen, looking at what was on offer for breakfast,it was no suprise Colin had joined us last night.
Loved It!

We stayed here in October. The weather was lovely! Hotel very nice, rooms clean, and unlike the last posting we found the food good. The resort is gorgeous. We only stayed for 3 nights but enjoyed it so much we have booked a 10 night stay in June 07 at this hotel. Make sure you say hello to Vicky and Bob in the Buckingham Palace Bar, opposite the marina. Can't wait for June!!!
Decent Hotel
from Attica
The hotel is in a good location just over the road from the beach, the staff made you feel welcome and nothing was to much trouble, the hotel was very clean and the food was of a good standard, the entertainment was ok, we would not hesitate to return to the Hotel Alexandra but would go earlier in the year the resort was a bit to quiet for us at the end of October
Nice hotel, shame about the food!

We wanted a hotel not far from the airport for one night and chose the Alexandra on the basis of favourable reviews on a hotel booking website. The hotel itself was fine, easily reached from the airport with the aid of some prior mapping on the computer. We had an enormous room (4 beds, 2 bathrooms, 2 tvs, 1 settee) for 2 of us. Nice sea view, though our corner position meant the balcony was rather small and squashed. Some delay over getting access to our room when we arrived, so we were offered a complimentary drink at the bar. Clientele were mainly elderly Spaniards and French; in fact, we (62, 53) were comparative spring chickens next to many of the guests. Friendly staff, everywhere clean, nice pool area, though it was too breezy to linger outside for too long. Ca'n Pastilla itself fairly attractive, if a little faded around the edges, and the proximity of the airport did not cause an excessive noise problem as the flight path was West of the hotel. The one big disappointment for us was the food. Starters at dinner were fine as they were uncooked, but most of the hot dishes were overcooked and often tasteless. The fish choices were especially disappointing: dry, chewy and grossly overdone. The puddings were unremarkable, though we quite enjoyed the cold rice pudding. Breakfast was no better: lots of very dry pastries, reconstituted "juices", poor coffee, solid fried eggs, a thick skin on the baked beans, strangely coloured and flavoured jams. Overall, we liked the hotel, but it was a great shame about the food, so we were glad we hadn't booked a long stay there and that our one night had been relatively cheap.
Good Spanish value

Just returned from the hotel Alexandra in can pastilla, mallorca.could not spent a more relaxing 10 days, very friendly hotel, staff very polite.although brits in the minority, still made to feel welcome, lots of French, german, and spanish, but everyone made to feel welcome. views from the front rooms and pool terrace wonderful of the sea and marina.only a few minutes from airport(14euro's)in taxi, but planes do not fly directly overhead so noise is not a real problem.food very good, drink not overpriced as in some hotels.only yards from beach, and directly on promenade, with lovely walks to Arenal or Palma,if you feel fit.
