Well past it's best, wont return.

Jan 2011, Davy

Just returned from a week there in mid Jan with spouse. Great location, good transport facilities, weather reasonable but many outdoor amenities closed and a tired old hotel. Other reviewers have detailed it's attributes so will just report our negative opinions. Hotel was only half open and the swimming pools were closed for repairs. Indoor pool is only a small splash-pool and the saunas were closed. The garden area is not large and in high season I doubt there'd be enough sunbeds available unless you're up before dawn! The high deposit towels are only half the length of the sunbed. Our Garden Room was fortunately in the tall main wing. Rooms in the L shaped wing are completely overlooked so no privacy for them. Room just OK but tired, small balcony, sea view. The room's problem was internal noise, walls very thin with intercommunicating door to next room. Means you can hear every sound, talking, snoring, loud TV, etc, awful if they're inconsiderate guests. Restaurant; breakfast OK but dinner buffet although plentiful, quickly became boring. We found the maid, bar and restaurant staff friendly and efficient. Reception were not openly friendly but always served our needs when approached. Evening entertainment was usually someone playing a keyboard and singing 50s - 80s pop music.
Overall; we didn't allow anything to prevent us enjoying our short winter break, mainly due to the good location and transport. But we'll look for a better class hotel in the same area next time and not so early in the year when the weather is dodgy and a lot of things are closed.

We would recommend this hotel apart from one aspect of the stay which we will describe later.
Having booked a two center holiday (living in Spain) we were very impressed with the standard of this hotel and location. The room was of a good size with adequate facilities and the food was excellent - a choice for all taste buds. The wine list prices were competitive and fair.
Our last evening in this hotel was on Christmas Eve and the hotel put on an extremely good cocktail meeting for guests.
What spoilt the stay was when we received the bill which included a film/video hire charge which reception absolutely insisted we had ordered - its done automatically by computer and you programme your room number on the television to access same. Having spent a tiring day in Gibraltar arriving back to the hotel around 5.00 p.m. and then attending a cocktail meeting at 6.00 p.m. there is no reason whatsoever that we would need this service. Also at our age (young 60s) and still are in control of our marbles and know if we programmed this service or not. Reception insisted the computer could not be wrong so we paid same to avoid a scene.

the best hotel for us

Aug 2010, Rochester

We have stayed at the Pez Espada every year from 1986 and we are going there again soon during September 2010.
The Hotel is great, the sands are just across the boardwalk a few minutes away. The Hotel is very clean and the rooms are serviced each day with a good clean and fresh linen in the bathrooms every day.
The Restaurant is very nice and you can choose exactly what you want to eat, there is a great variety of foods to suit all tastes and we feel sure that you will not be disappointed.
We rent a car for the two weeks and therefore we are able to visit those terrific places like Mijas, Antequera, Ronda etc., and the city of Malaga is great for a visit to see the Cathedral, the Alcazaba and other places of interest. We could never get tired of our annual stays at the Pez Espada and we are now looking forward to our visit in a few weeks time.

Me and my sister spent 2 weeks at the Pez Espada and to be honest it was a little disappointing. After reading the reviews before we went we were really looking forward to it.
The flight was fine and arrived at the hotel. The check in was fine but was not impressed that if we wanted the fridge we had to pay 26 euros for the key, so after paying for that and safe key we went to the room. It was down a corridor that was dark mustard walls that needed touching up. The room itself was OK but really needed updating, there wasnt a chest of drawers so had to store everything in the wardrobe.
The food at the hotel was really good, but the dining room could have been bigger as no matter what time we went for our evening meal we had to queue.
Then on our third night there we got the family from hell next door to us. It was 2 boys who were there with their parents and grandparents and we were unlucky enough to be next door to them. The first night I banged on their door at 2.30, the music and shouting was so loud I dont know how they didnt wake the whole corridor, they didnt answer so phoned reception who sent security and the music did go quieter. The next night was the same again, only this time the mother and father was in the room too, security came again and we got to sleep about 3.30
At 7am I was in reception asking for a new room, had to go back at 8 and met the most miserable man ever. Anyway we eventually got the key to a different room at lunch time. Thankfully we had a peaceful time in there.
The hotel is set just back from the beach which was great and it was 9 euros a day for 2 beds and umbrella and the nice man there saved you the same beds every day.
We didnt use the pool but people were getting their beds there from 6.45 onwards.
The entertainment at night was OK some nights and the bar staff worked really hard and were very pleasant.

If you want a relaxing holiday in a great hotel, great location, great food and great staff this is the place!!!!
Yes the majority of clients are probably 55 plus but there were a few of us younger people!! Our room was a superior double with balcony and sea view - it was exactly what it said on the tin!!!
The hotel was spotless, maids were in every day, they were very helpful and polite. The food was very good with plenty of choice.
Bar staff were very pleasant and quick, nothing was too much trouble for all the employee's in the hotel.
The pools were clean with a life guard in place all the time. The sun beds were "booked" very early in the morning in the prime positions but there were plenty of them so for the likes of myself and partner who went out during the day it wasn't much of a problem and by the time we returned we could find a spot easily.
The location was really good. Right opposite the beach and plenty to do - great for people watching. The bars on the front were varied, prices for drinks and food were generally very similar.
All in all a great place, we would definately return to the Pez and I'm hoping it won't be that long before we do!!!!!

The hotel Pez Espada has a fantastic location, right on the beach front and despite us having a room overlooking the promenade we never experienced any noise.
Our room was large and spotlessly clean and our maid was very friendly. The rooms were air conditioned which was greatly appreciated in the 32 degree heat.
There was a good choice of food to suit everyone (even our fussy teenager managed to eat well). The waiting staff were very attentive and couldn't do enough to help.
The evening entertainment in the hotel could be a hit or a miss. If we didn't fancy what was on we took a stroll along the promenade to the marina in Benalmadena (highly recommend doing this) or wandered through the shops and bars in Torremolinos.

We have been to the Pez Espada two years on the trot and planning to go back again this August.
The hotel is very clean and tidy with lovely clean comfortable rooms. The room maids are very pleasant and helpful. Reception staff are always helpful and always give you a warm welcome.
The food is excellent and dining room very clean, the waiters will go out of their way to help.
There is a big pool outside with sunbeds, we tend to use the beach which is at the end of hotel gardens, the beach is clean and tidy with sunbeds at a cost of a couple of Euros.
My two teenage children have enjoyed this holiday on both occasions and looking forward to this year! There is plenty to do in the evenings either at the hotel or take a short walk along the sea front where there are shops and attractions.
There is plenty of places to visit during the day, I would recommend a day in Gibraltar with doing the tour of the mountain and monkeys. All in all we would recommend this hotel to anyone , I would say once you have been you will go back again!

The Pez Espada Hotel is the perfect location, right on the beach, it is flat walking to Torremolinos or Benalmadena.
The swimming pool is beautiful and adventurous. The food is first class and the dinning room overlooks the sea.
The bedrooms are very clean with ample space.
There are gardens at the back of the hotel with free sun beds.
There is entertainment every night at the hotel, the bus stops just outside the hotel.

The Pez Espada is the best hotel I have stayed in to date. The atmosphere is one of calm and sophistication, and the staff are friendly and polite at all times.
The food is fantastic, both in choice and quality with the salads and desserts deserving a special mention. Children would probably not like the lack of "junk" type food, but as there are very few of them at this hotel then that isn’t a problem! My room was clean and tidy with a spacious, bright bathroom which had a well stocked basket of goodies including a sewing kit and several shoe shine pads!
The location of the hotel is ideal, being at the Benalmadena end of Torremolinos and hence near to the picturesque marina. Shopping opportunities for jewellery, pottery and alcohol are plentiful, and it is easy enough to avoid the "tat”. There is a market on Fridays in Paloma Park in Benalmadena, which is worth the walk just to see the animals and birds wandering around it!
All in all I had a great holiday in Torremolinos, and would recommend the Pez Espada to anyone wanting a quality hotel and a relaxing break.
