We always book a Thomsons GOLD but this was not up to their usual standard. It was our anniversary and we'd read the reviews so were looking forward to our holiday at the Yaramar. It was a good location except it was next to a sewage place! Food - very English at times... more

This Hotel is nice, the service is first class, the people who work there are friendly. But as the Brits aren't filling the place the hotel will fill the rooms with Spaniards who take children with them. We were sprayed with water pistols bumped with floats by children... more

We stayed at the Yaramar in February for 3 weeks, and enjoyed it very much. We booked with Portland this time, because it was substantially less than Thompsons, even though they are both part of the Tui Group. The hotel is situated right on the sea front, with a long... more

Very nice hotel. However the main dissapointment was the lack of sunbeds around the pool area. This did spoil our holiday as we are not beach people and we were having to get up very early on our holiday to reserve a sunbed with our towel. By 08.30 every morning there was... more

Under 65? This isn’t for you.
Two mid-forty-somethings, booked twin room, 10-17 February. Pros: Across road from beach Interesting design, atrium style with 4 glass fronted lifts Plenty of sofa/lounge areas Several bars and cafes Good choice of English television Felt very young - we were in a tiny minority of under 65’s. Cons: Where to start? Rooms. Given the smallest double bed & had to argue to get a twin. Furnishings basic. Beds very hard, pillows matched. Small table but only one chair. Wardrobe containing small safe (not big enough for the laptop but free.) TV good; BBC 1&2, ITV 1&2&3, Sky news. Bathroom small & not too clean, hairs/dust on wall & floor. Toilet lid broken. Unnecessary items - toothbrushes, combs, shoe cleaner, but no face cloths or tissues. Kettle, only two tea bags and mini milks each day. Fridge (not free.) Food: Plentiful buffet but bland, hot at six o’clock and kept lukewarm under heat lamps, with a small grill section. This maybe to suit the age of the guests. I don’t think the staff followed the same food safety rules as the UK. A chicken kebab, just grilled, was actually RAW. My husband pointed this out. The ’chef’ put it BACK on the grill then took others from under their heat lamp and re-grilled them. Have they never heard of salmonella? After that we ate elsewhere. Waiting staff good at clearing but had a strange attitude - hugging the guests and talking down to them, it felt like being in a care home. Public areas: Two bars, snack bar, café and basement bar/disco. Big lounge areas. Avoided basement (claustrophobia) but used atrium bar as the weather was too grotty to go out. Entertainment, a pianist or pianist/singer duo, meant lots of old tunes for formal dancing. OK -we weren’t looking for a disco. Prices cost the same as you’d pay in a nice bar here but the quality was questionable, Eur13 for a cocktail and a small Baileys-type drink. The cocktails mostly tasted of lemon - sharp and acid. The worst margarita ever. Facilities: bad weather stopped us using the pool. Did not use the exercise room. Next door are a few shops, hairdresser, Avis desk & Don Paco restaurant. You could swap a meal for a 6 Euro voucher to use here. No menu outside but a sign allowing smoking so we gave it a miss. Noise: We were on the 9th floor and the music from the bar could be heard very clearly in our room until late. Not very pleasant. Some road traffic noise. Parking: Only street parking outside. Eur 1 per hour. Three hours maximum. Parking charges hours 9.30AM - 14.30, then 16.30 - 21.00. Sat PM and Sun free. We felt prices were high. A tiny 200ml Sprite cost Eur 2.5, more than we paid anywhere else. We weighed our bags & were charged Eur2 for the privilege. Most 4* hotels I‘ve been in put scales in the room. (You must check the weight as Thomson are really cracking down, weighing all luggage at airport. They charge Eur10 excess per kilo.) This bills itself as a four * hotel but we felt it wasn’t worth more than 2½ *. It’s nowhere near the standard of the likes of Sheraton, Hilton, Crowne Plaza, Omni, etc. In short, a ‘package-tour’ hotel. We wouldn’t stay there again.
Brilliant Hotel, But............
We have stayed at this Hotel before in 2004. We returned because we had great memories. We stayed for a three night break and noticed a few improvements.....and some failings. Firstly, let me say that this is a truly good hotel. We have stayed in 4 & 5 star hotels around the Med and this is undoubtedly the BEST in some areas. The accommodation is compact but first class. They have added British TV channels and internet access in all rooms. They are presented well and are spotlessly clean. The restaurant is 1st class. Varied food and well cooked. A 'bit of everything' including a roast dinner every night but for those who actually want to try local food..that's there too. Staff are excellent ( except in the Rivera Beach Club bar on the beach, who are surly and rude - same as last time). It's true, the hotel stands out on the strip as the best. All the staff work so hard to present a good image.....but unfortunately it's all let down by the Thompson Reps!! This is a Thompson Gold hotel so is mainly frequented by the more mature traveller. Don't let this put you off. It just means there are no kids!!!! Result!!!!! No 'Family Friendly' entertainment - no parents getting noisily drunk while the little darlings run riot!!!!! - No screaming babies throwing their food everywhere while the rest of us have to smile indulgently and put up with it!!!!!!!!! GREAT - enough exclamation marks! ( okay one more). This is reclaiming the holiday abroad for those whose kids have grown up and who don't want the hassle and aggravation anymore. We are 51 & 50 and don't care who knows it!! (Sorry more excalamation marks - trying to cut down). The clientele here are friendly, mostly considerate and very nice, so there. And now to the Thompson Gold Reps. Oh dear. I would like to exclude the 'Local Interest' reps who are genuine and who really are interested in what you want to know and are happy to impart advice and guidance. They live here and know of what they speak. This totally does not apply to the rest. They 'run' the nightly 'entertainment' and competitions. Last time we were here, it was quite good. Not great, but they are amateurs and tried their best. Not now. They are totally obsessed with their own popularity. They ensure that the usual 'Rent a Crowd' ( the guests who join in every activity throughout the day) are adequately rewarded during the evening games ( I actually saw a ticket drawn out by a neutral guest and the actual number announced bore no similarity to it ). Which brings me to the 'Reps Cabaret'. This was so embarrasing that if it were not for the facts that 'Rentacrowd' were in attendance to give uproarious applause and that England were playing leading to sparse attendance, the reaction would have been scant. Such a shame. Thompson now seems to have reps who are simply rejects from The X Factor and who think that to simply shout and belch are enough to entertain us. Wrong. Please Thompson, try to improve the standards of your staff. Otherwise, a brilliant hotel.
Wonderful Hotel
Group of six adults all family Stayed for the New Year. Lovely Hotel. Staff welcoming and friendly. Buffet restaurant Food always fresh with lots of choice. Rooms very clean. Entertainment very good dancing most evenings. Can't wait to go again next year. Although Fuengerola wouldn't be my first choice for a summer holiday this hotel would now make it an option.
ok , with reservations
We stayed at the Yaramar for two weeks in August 2006. We had booked a superior room, and also requested a quiet room. On arrival we found the check in efficient and pleasant We were on the 15th floor which is reached via the glass lifts, which were initially a bit daunting. Superior rooms have the advantage of having one wall which is solely glass thus giving you a magnificent panoramic view of Fuengirola. These rooms are large spacious nicely furnished with a small balcony with table and chairs. Being a Gold hotel there was the usual fruit, wine ,bathrobes etc. on arrival. The Hotel is very modern and nicely furnished throughout. The restaurant is spacious and clean, and the food is ok, mainly catering to Bristish taste, but after two weeks it became very repetiitive. The main problem with this hotel is the pool area, there simply is not enough room , it felt very cramped, and the "bed-reserving" was the worst we have ever encountered. The hotel is right in the centre of the town, straight across from the beach, and therefore could be quite noisy. We took a trip, which we booked independantly , to Gibraltar, which was very pleasant and well worth the money. The entertainment was the usual combination of rep shows, and cabaret, which were held in a downstairs entertainment area which made it feel quite claustrophobic. Although the hotel is ok we would not visit again, the main reasons being the location of the hotel which is very busy and the lack of space outside in the pool area.
Great Hotel
Just had 2 Weeks staying at the Yaramar, 8th - 22nd Sept. Cant fault it at all, staff very friendly, was able to has a bit of a laugh with some of the Restaurent staff. we had a room of the 12th floor overlooking the sea. rooms were cleaned every day with fresh towls. The lifts are an experience not to be missed. The food was plentfull ,if a little regular, although they did had theme nights on the fridays, we had Italian and spanish nights. The beach was clean with 5 euros for sunbed and parasol with a free sangria included. If you fancied a evening out to eat, there are plenty of places, one area is called fish ally with a selection ofrestaurents. the entertainment in the evenings was very good, with the hotel group putting on a good performance, and acts on a one day visit. One thing to watch out for, are the people offering scratch cards, this is just a ruse to get you to go to a new time-share location, although they dont use the term time-share. Only fault we could think of was that the beds were too hard.
Excellent Hotel
My husband and II stayed at the Yaramar for a week from the 11th sept. We have stayed at quite a few gold hotels and even though we were probably at least 20 years younger than the average couple staying at this hotel we actually see this as an advantage....ie peace and quiet after all we like to go away to relax... We travelled with portland and were picked up by a minibus and taken directly to the hotel...I think there were only a few arrivals that day otherwise it would have been a coach... The lobby area is lovely, and the receptionists checked us in quickly I emailed the hotel before our arrival and asked for a high floor...we got the top floor (15) and the best view ever, if you dont mind heights that is The room was a good size, kept spotlessy clean as is the rest of the hotel and even though we were on the top floor there were four lifts so this didnt pose too much of a problem. The restaurant was exceptional...I cannot understand how anybody could have a problem with the food at the yaramar...we stayed half board and would usually eat out a few nights though the food was so good we only ate out once and it was a big disappointment compared to the hotel.. we also took advantage of the al carte meal offered for one night of our stay which was superb. The pool areas was ok, there was a jacuzzi and smallish swimming pool but with nice comfy beds The only disappointment really was the pong coming from somewhere outside the hotel...like blocked drains. Not pleasant whilst sunbathing.... Fuengirola itself was ok, busy but not too busy lovely promenade... Visit mijas and go on the wine tasting which is excellent, also take the train to benalmadena, 80p each and we got the ferry back about a fiver each All in all a good holiday the best hotel in fuengirola by far..
A high-performance venue!
Just returned from a week at the Yaramar. It wasn't enough. I've never been so relaxed and well-looked after in my life. Yes, the street outside looked noisy at first glance, but the double glazing cuts out all noise in the room and almost all the rooms are so high up, you don't notice it much on the balconies either. I haven't worked out yet how the beach is so peaceful - no noise at all carries over from the road and the beach loungers are SO comfy! Air-conditioning inside the room is first class and infinitely variable, so no sleepless nights from the heat. The hotel does attract older people without children. This can only be a good thing if you're looking to relax and unwind - and there's plenty of youthful energy to tap into if you want some fun, both from the entertainment crew and guests alike! Can't agree with other writers about the food - thought it was simply amazing in every respect - I've never seen such a varied buffet. Finally, as other writers have mentioned, best of all is the entertainment in the evening. The talented young performers provide West End-standard shows most nights - quite extraordinary and a bit unexpected. Well done to them!
Good hotel and location
I ended up booking Yaramar hotel by default as Hotel.com messed up my booking with Confortel Hotel and I was left with no hotel the night before my holiday. Thanks hotel.com! I called Yaramar in a panic the night before and luckily the reception was open late and the service over the phone was excellent. Alicia deserves alot of praise for her customer service. Its about 30 mins drive from Malaga airport and its a large hotel with a great location. The beach is just outside the hotel on Los Boliches. Its a four star hotel so a little disappointment with the tired rooms compared other European hotels I've been to. However, it was clean and the views were great. Try and choose the higher floors as it may be noiser near the pool area. Generally the hotel is catered for the 50 plus and its a Thomson preferred hotel. So if you want a young crowd its not the place. Confortel is only 2 years old, far more modern and better interior and much younger crowd, if that's what you're looking for. Breakfast was the run of the mill buffet. Not great at all. You get quantity but not quality. Instant coffee, from what looked like a drinks machine. Orange juice was instant watered down concentrate. Croissants were not fresh but quite hard and stoggy. I didn't have dinner there as the restaurants outside are great! The only other complaint was the air con was not great. Otherwise, the staff are friendly , their English was great compared to my poor Spanish and they're more than willing to help. The taxi rank is round the corner so you could get around very easily. I had to pay over the odds (200 euros a night) because of the last minute booking so going with an agent may be cheaper. Although i would not recommend hotels.com who've I've reported to the local trading standards for leaving me with no hotel the night before.
Great Hotel
Stayed 4 nights with my wife in July and were really impressed with everything about this hotel. The positives were great rooms, great sea views, great lifts, great swiming pool and sun terrace, great dining room, bars and lounges, great staff, great location right on lovely sandy beach, nice bars and restaurants right next to hotel. Only thing that let the hotel down slightly was the food, it could have been bit better. Probably 7/10 where in a hotel like this you would probably expect 9/10. But then we are quite fussy so ? Overall great 4 day break, and would have no hesitation in going back to the Yaramar again.
great hotel yaramar
My wife and i spent the first weeks holiday away from our sons in 20 years,we wanted a hotel with no kids, and thomson gold provided that.We had read hol reports on yaramar and i thought the hotel must have wrote them, take my word for it all we read was right, rooms, staff, food, cleanliness, and entertainment was as described in reviews we had read, not many places i would re visit but would here. Also discount on sun beds and parasols directly over road on beach 5 euros for two loungers and parasol including a free glass of sangria, anybody who could not find some type of food in the exellent hotel restaurant should stay at home!Look out for hotels cocktails of the day.
