Atlantis Hotel Reviews
" I and my husband went on a two week... "
Submitted By: Mrs C GoffThe Atlantis resort is an absolute paradise. We stayed in the Beach Tower and upon arrival were upgraded to a pool and beach view apartment. The room was fab and the view breathtaking.
There is so much to do in exploring the Atlantis resort and you will not be disappointed. The staff are the friendly and most welcoming I have ever encountered on a holiday. However, the main drawback is the price, despite the fact that the dollar rate is so good against the pound, we still managed to spend about $5000, and that wasn't us being over extravagant.
There is a 15% standard gratuity added to every bill, whether you are walking into a shop to buy an ice-cream cone, pack of cigarettes etc or if your actually dining and this really does add up. A 330ml can of local beer in the resort will set you back $7 plus gratuity.
A two course meal for two with house wine will set you back at least $180.00 Also despite the fact that there is a 24 hr casino in the resort, all the restaurants seemed to close by 10.30pm and the grocery stores closed at 8pm.

Atlantis itself is a beautiful place, which reminded us of Las Vegas in that it was 100% man made. We hired a scooter and travelled around Paradise Island as well as venturing into Nassau.
The whole holiday was very americanised, from the larger than life hotel to the larger than life American tourists.
If you want something natural and peaceful I would recommend you go to Mauritius.
All in all a good holiday.

Submitted By: Mrs B MillingtonThe resort itself is amazing. There are over ten pools there and a water park is part of the hotel. You can never be bored here as there are so many things to look at everywhere. As you are walking around the corridors of the hotel you pass sharks, eels, and all sort of fish. The beach is stunning and there are lots of water sports to there.
We did eat in the hotel a lot which wasn't cheap but we also eat in other restaurants on paradise island and in Nassau. The casino was huge with all kind of different games to play there. The staff were always very friendly there.
Although this resort is not cheap I would love to go back there one day as it truly is an amazing place and I would recommend it to anyone who wants an extra special holiday.

Submitted By: reddevilcatFrom the restaurants to the 'dig' (an under water tunnel in a seemingly never ending aquarium with sharks - fish - a HUGE manta ray and other sea life) and even outside to the swimming pools.
You can want for nothing in this resort, with one possible exception of cheaper food, the only negative aspect of the holiday.
After 4 days of eating in the hotel we realised it would be massively cheaper to venture out to the nearby cafe's and restaurants, where there is a plenty of choice for relatively little money.
The rooms are nice, a good size, and ours overlooked the decorative fountain on the main drive - the harbour and right over to Nassau - Breathtaking!
The staff are very pleasant and unlike some other reviews, I could not say I found one member of staff to be unhelpful or anything other than happy to assist with anything we required.
This is a once in a lifetime holiday, but I hope to make it a twice in a lifetime experience and go back soon to experience their additions such as the Dolphin Sanctuary.
AMAZING HOLIDAY!
" This is an amazing hotel - well worth... "
Submitted By: reddevilcatThe room in the Royal Towers was great, we had a view of the harbour as well as looking out into Nassau.
The Hotel is massive, and it is easy to spend 10 days and not find the lazy river more than once - I know, I tried to locate it after day 3 and failed, but the pools I did find made up for my insignificant and somewhat momentary disappointment.
The Casino is brilliant, very good for those who are less accustomed to casino life, as well as the more serious gamblers who are looking for a 'game'.
The whole complex is clean and tidy, the staff seem to work tirelessly on keeping it spotless.
The only criticism I have is that the food is heavily overpriced...we ate all our meals in the hotel, or room service for the first 4 days, then realised we should be going out into Nassau to locate some more value for money eateries.
There is a wonderful Italian restaurant as you leave the hotel via the Coral Towers and venture towards the Holiday Inn - there you will find a little convenience store (cheaper crisps, soft drinks and snacks) and a series of cafe's and restaurants.
If you are a couple, a family, or even travelling on your own, there is something for everyone at this hotel, we will certainly be going back.

Submitted By: LeachadWe both would have been much happier to go straight to our room. We were told to leave our cases at reception and that they would be taken straight to the room, however when we arrived back 40minutes later they were where we had left them. The room that we were given was in the Royal Towers and stunk of cigarettes. Reception sent up house keeping to spray the room with air freshener, the maid laughed at the ridiculousness of this and told us there was nothing she could do to remove the smell and advised us to move rooms.
We had to drag all our cases back to reception to complain and ask to be moved. The staff were rude and reluctant to help, we refused to stay in the room as neither of us are smokers and had asked to be in a non smoking room. We finally did get moved to another room, and again had to drag our cases ourselves. The new room was only slightly better as this time it smelt damp. We no longer had the energy to complain so we settled, which is disgusting considering the money it cost to stay there.
After just a few days the damp smell was so bad that we had to report because even our clothes had started to smell. Nothing was done about it. The battery then died in the lock to our door preventing us from entering our own room with out security, and each time we did this it took at least half an hour for them to locate someone. It was reported six times and went on for over 48 hours with out being fixed. While this was going on our room was not made up as the maid couldn’t get into the room either, the hotel manger resolved this giving us another room. However this room was not available until 3pm and we had to move out of our room by 12pm, a total joke.
We really hoped that this would be the end of our troubles but unfortunately this was not to be. The hairdryer in the room broke on the first night was still not fixed after three nights in which time I had gone out each night with wet hair. My husband phoned reception and told them to bring one up to the room on the fourth night, it took them three hours to do this so again I went out with wet hair.
My husband was also severely ill for three days after eating pizza at the hotel, he had sickness and diarrhea, he lost three days of his honeymoon, we didn’t eat anywhere other than at the hotel. It’s not surprising that he was ill really as we did see cockroaches in the hotel, mainly in the food areas. The food and cleaning standards should be so much higher.
The grounds to this hotel are kept very clean but there are a lot of water chutes and small pools not in use. They are in desperate need of repair, but in the time we were there we saw no one working on them.
It will cost you $7.50 for two cans of soft drink around the pool, $15.00 for two beers, $21.00 foe two cocktails. Breakfast costs from $30.00, Lunch $40-50, and dinner in one of the nice restaurants for two people around $180.00. There’s always pizza that’s a bit cheaper, however this is what my husband had eaten the night before he spent three days in bed ill. (Enough said).
To finish it all off we flew first class to the resort and was returning the same way, our cases were meant to be checked into the airport via the hotel so that we didn’t have to check-in so early. What happened is no one told us this so we were picked up late and still had our cases along with everybody else who was with us, the airport staff were then rude to passengers because they were irritated with the hotel. They said that it happens all the time, it makes things hard for them because they have to ensure that everyone is booked in and the flight leaves on time.
We were so disappointed with our stay with at Atlantis, which is terrible considering that they are recommended as one of the worlds best hotels. I wouldn’t put them in that category, it is all very well to have an amazing hotel but good service is what makes a holiday special.

Submitted By: LeachadOur check in time on the day we arrived was 3pm, we didn't actually arrive until 7.30pm and our room was not available. We had to wait a further 40 minutes. We were tired from traveling and just wanted to get settled in our room and freshen up before dinner. When we did finally get the key to the room it was miles from the reception and we were left to take our own bags, even though they do have porters.
The room was in the East Tower which must be the smoking section of the building (even though the hotel will say that it isn't) the room stunk of cigarettes, so much so that the maid, the hotel sent up with air freshener told us to ask for another room as there was nothing that she could do to remove the smell. We were in the room for half an hour as it took them this long to find another room, we both stunk of cigarettes when we left it. They did move us to another room, but we had to go back to reception with our cases to pick up the new key (again we had no help) The second room had a fantastic view but a slight damp smell, we no longer had they energy to complain so we settled, but believe me in a hotel that costs that amount of money we most definitely should not have had to settle.
Unfortunately that was not the end of the bad luck, or bad service. After four days our room smelt so damp that all our clothes had started to smell too. We phoned customer service who said that they would deal with it, in the mean time the battery died in the lock on the door to our room. This would not have been an issue if it had been resolved, but of course it wasn't so we spent two days having to go to reception to ask for them to open the door, each time we did this we waited at least half an hour outside the room for them to send someone up.
The maids also had no access to the room so it wasn't made up for two days. We reported the fault 6 times in 48 hours, and nothing was done. In the end we could take it no more and demanded that we got moved to another room, this was at 10am on the third day of the issue. They gave us another room but told us that we had to vacate the room we were in by 12pm and the other room wouldn't be available until 3pm, a total joke.
I could go on and on about this hotel and the disasters we had so below is the short list:
There was bits of broken glass in the bottom of my glass of water, I discovered this when I sucked some up through a straw into my mouth, the waitress said I'm sorry. My husband we believe had food poisoning as he had severe sickness and diarrhea for three days (it was five days into the holiday and we had only eaten at the hotel). My hairdryer didn't work over there so I had to use the hotels, this broke the first time I used it, they never fixed it, my husband phoned reception in the end and told them to bring a new one up straight away. This was at 8pm, we got one at 11pm. Most of the water slides and plunge pools were out of action.
The hotel is full of tourists from other hotels so the residents have to wear stupid wrist bands to be able to use the pool area, they have to be worn constantly so you end up with a nice white band round your wrist. We saw cockroaches in the restaurant area in the Royal Towers.
The hotel was meant to inform us that we were to check our cases in with them on the day of departure and that they get taken to the airport ahead of us. The coach picked us up 1 hour and 30 minutes before our flight causing loads of problems at the airport because no one from Alantis had checked in bags. This made it very late to be checking in and the staff there were not happy about it, and took it out on the passengers.
Everything is over priced, the hotel makes no effort to introduce the local culture, it is just like being in an USA shopping mall for your holidays. There is very little evening entertainment, one man sings the same songs out of tune every night. This is not a hotel that we would recommend, and we will not be returning.
" Atlantis was a massive disappointment... "
Submitted By: Mrs S DaviesThe brochure pictures never seem to show the Beach or Coral Towers which is not surprising as they are both badly in need of a face lift. We stayed in a room at the Beach Tower, at a cost of $310 US a night but were disappointed to find that our hard-earned cash had been spent on a view of an air conditioning vent right outside the balcony, surrounded by empty fag packets and someone’s abandoned pants (I kid you not). The hairdryer didn't work (not surprising as the socket was hanging out of the wall) and it took 3 phone calls and 6 hours to get another one brought to the room. The mini bar lock was broken and when we got someone to come and fix it we were delighted by the sight of a half eaten chocolate bar inside.
The room in general was clean but tatty and the hammering of refurbishments elsewhere started at 8am every weekday. The restaurant prices were very steep- our average evening meal was £140 for two, without wine. Although the food was fine, it definitely wasn't special enough for us to feel we were getting value for that amount of money. The restaurant staff ranged from quite pleasant to downright rude and seemed to be jamming reservations in on a very tight schedule all evening- we were told off for being 10 minutes EARLY for our reservation, never mind late! Bar staff too were variable in attitude- a 15% gratuity is automatically added to every food and drink bill, so they seem to not care about actually earning it through pleasantness.
The Royal Tower building was impressive, the pools were well maintained, the beach was beautiful, but not nice enough to justify the price we paid for this holiday. At reception complaints were not met by much surprise or interest- they seem to have heard it all before.

Submitted By: Dr T ReynoldsAdmittedly we were there over the Easter school holidays but the facilities were unable to cope with the numbers of people. It was impossible to get a sun-lounger unless you bagged one at 6am. We spent 10 days in the resort but even booking on our first day there (we were not allowed to book before arrival), we were unable to get into any of the decent restaurants until our last night - they were all fully booked.
A spectacular hotel, lots of attention to detail but overall poor because we had to go off-site every night to get food; the selection of restaurants locally is not that great and Nassau itself feels rather run down and poor.
A good holiday but not a place to go back to.
" This resort is fantastic, lots to do... "
Submitted By: rainbow100There are around 20 restaurants in the resort and also snack bars. We booked a Meal Plan which included breakfast and dinner in a selection of the restaurants. I would say overall this resort is expensive but is worth it for a one off holiday.
We also saw Woody Harrelson as I believe lots of filming goes on in the resort.

Submitted By: Miss M HothiThe down side : although we visited Nassau it was quite intimidating due to the sheer poverty 98% of Bahamas income is from tourism so it felt safer to stay on the resort. The hotel was extortionate in price i.e. in one restaurant breakfast was $30 but to be fair this did include smoked salmon, champagne etc. It was mainly populated by Americans and honeymooners so there wasn’t really a great mix of people. I also wish there was more of a nightlife I was bored towards the end of the week. It was expensive about £2500 for a week not including spending money but at the same time it was breathtaking and also bear in mind there are one set of rooms that cost $25 000.00 with a minimum 3 day stay and that was fully booked until the following year!! Tiger Woods was there when we went.
I would highly recommend it as it really has to be seen, so if you are feeling flush, missing the sun and looking for a laid back holiday Atlantis is the place to go.

I went in July and had the best holiday ever, Paradise Island is clean and everyone is so friendly. I’m very fussy and review every accommodation before I book and the Comfort suites is the best value for money. However they only do bed and breakfast and food out in Atlantis is unbelievably expensive. I paid $30 for a chicken breast (on its own) and it was raw in the middle. I recommend Antonys Grill, cheap and cheerful and very popular with everyone.
Atlantis is good for adults but is limited for children, actually there is nothing for them in the evening apart form a night club but then that costs $30 a night, and it only caters for 6/17 year olds.
Overall Atlantis is so unreal and amazing but I’d never in a million years stay there, I’d always go back to the Comfort Suites.
